  • Barbara Walters, the longtime NBC and ABC journalist who became the first woman to anchor a network TV evening news broadcast, died Friday at age 93. Three friends and colleagues - "Sunday Morning" anchor Jane Pauley, and former ABC News veterans Ted Koppel and Sam Donaldson - sit down to reminisce about Walters' stellar career: the interviews, the successes, and the competitiveness.

I have been watching clips. Harry Reasoner did not hide his hatred for her one bit.
In one he said "Barbara I counted. And this evening, you talked 4 minutes more than I did. You owe me 4 minutes."
She had to put up with much BS for decades. And then ageism at the end....

Barbara Walters certainly was one of the interviewing ladies, that defined how an interview should be- relaxed, comfortable, formal, and soothing. She certainly was a great part of NBC and ABC television, as well as the shows, "The View" and "ABC 20/20", in my day. I know I'll miss her dearly, and I'll forever remember how she had such a huge and emotional farewell, on her retirement day on "The View", as Oprah Winfrey brought out many female colleagues to say goodbye. If that's not a way to retire, then I don't know what is.
Barbara, I'll miss you and I thank you. Keep on riding high, with Gilda Radner and Peter Jennings.

I think Barbara Walters was a trailblazer for women in all careers, and if she wanted more children, I'm sad that she didn't get to do that. She did a great job in creating the tv show The View, but since she left, that show is not what it was intended and I, along with I'm sure many others, have stopped watching that tv show. I have not found it to be influential, now it just seems to be a big argument, or a power struggle on who is going to talk the most. Barbara was refined and had class, and the women that have been on her tv show should have taken lessons from her. They have not held up their end of the bargain. But Barbara held her own, and she is still the shining star of them all. You will be missed Barbara Walters.

But who gave birth to Michangelo and Bach? There are still people who think this way and women who speak condescendingly about men. When will we understand that we need each other?

“Following the disaster Barbara Walters & Harry Reasoner co-anchor partnership…” It was not a disaster partnership. It was one weak, insecure, threatened little man with the emotional maturity of a child having a temper tantrum. She stood her ground like a mature adult. Harry acted like an imbecile. Let’s be clear about that.

Well it’s still COVID times… seriously though, they had to put this together in less than 48 hours, thus the split screen.

@@88rtd Jane did an extended piece, Ted led the interview, and Sam -- who himself is in his 90s -- took the time off to do it. But you still want them to do more?
