I understand Whoopi is just trying to preserve due process, but the FBI has released that the percentage of false accusations is under 8%. They should let Sunny speak longer considering she prosecuted these crimes for a living and is by far the most knowledgeable about the challenges victims face.
That percentage most definitely applies to non-celebs. The percentage of false accusations from non-celebs to celebs will definitely be much higher
Well that's probably part of why Whoopi spoke though, I've heard Sunny cite the false accusation level time and time again as reason to believe every accusation we hear when the statistics literally proves that there ARE false accusations and when it's more than one in twenty that's actually pretty huge IF we are gonna default to cancelling people who get accused. - that's not me commenting on Lauer's case though, more on the Al Frankens and Johnny Depp's of the world where impropriety was not admitted
Sunny rightly fears for her son due to his African American (plus Latino) background but that means she should really not lean on statistics as a shortcut to saying "we can know that accusations are true!" When a stat is not "100%" that's not how it works.
@Shade Bleu I have a friend ( he has his faults!) Who defaults to believing stuff , forgetting that I literally had to help him get the messages proving an accusation against him was a sting.
He jokingly pointed his camera at a girl who had a long running joke she made about the topic and she later used the single photo of him doing that as proof he was legit trying to get images of her privates.. every girl in our friendship group believed her by default but she thought we were out of contact with one guy from the party in question and cited him as this disgusted witness .... We contacted him and he screenshotted the messages where she was joking about it and sharing the photo of my friend joking holding the camera. The women who had fallen in line with her disowned her after that BUT still do the 'believe all victims' or "women" bit unfortunately.

It's a totally different thing to go through police and cross examination etc as a civilian taking on another average wage civilian, Sunny would be right there that it would not pay to make a false accusation but once you have celebs the opportunity to make bank is pretty extreme and in cases like Lauer, if there is corroborated extremely bad behaviour there is a reasonable likelihood that you could blackmail a payment out of the celeb by saying you are gonna escalate from lecherous behaviour and groping to actual rape.
.. that's not what I think is happening with Lauer but I hate the leaning on statistics, to flip Sunny's script , one in twenty people accused of this are falsely accused and will have a stain against their name potentially permanently.
Imagine a new migraine pill was super effective and medical authorities reported it was very safe to trust it because "under 8 percent!" Of users died when using it..

Sunny cites normal stats (ie. Not celebrities who are targets for scammers) as proof that people should default to believing accusers when actually the stat she cites (false accusations at or just under 8 percent) means one in twenty accused average folks (not famous) are getting their reputations besmirched by lies.
I admire Sunny intensely and consider her an intelligent powerhouse of a human being but this is a blind spot of hers IMHO. If she is gonna cite her background to assert she is the authority on an issue she should consider the other implications of the stat. Particularly poignant when she fears her son could be falsely accused or harmed by police due to racism, imagine if someone tried to use stats about crime in African American neighbourhoods as a reason to default to believing her son had done something wrong, that would be so f***Ed up

The book will be out in a few days..... more details to come. In the interview I saw this morning I was a bit skeptical since she did have sex with him later several more times. In any event, I believe this belongs in a courtroom, not a book contract.
That's a good attitude to it I think. When allegations escalate in seriousness by an order of magnitude that's even more reason to investigate in an official capacity.

I hope the view eventually covers or does and update on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard as she is sounding like the ex I got a restraining order on who repeatedly assaulted me knowing I'd never strike her and who had stolen and hidden my passports and everything necessary to access funds or leave when I was in her home country. She had my work wages into her account and when I convinced my manager to do a one time favour of a paper cheque the Ex then got a friend of hers at my workplace to leak information on clients which she then reported back to management as ME breaking confidentiality ..
I got suspended until I proved this and was super vindicated later when she came to my work refusing to leave until she got to speak to me the. Attacked me in full view of most staff with me not laying a finger as she bruised up my face and literally ripped my shirt clean off my chest incurring fingernail blood tracks down my chest and then getting escorted off the property by the four unit managers (mental health wards) literally carrying her off the property and phoning the police..

So basically the intern was going to Matt's hotel room and they had sex during an international Olympic event coverage. She returned numerous times again and again (2 year affair with known public married man) now she wants to get paid again. But this time not from NBC but from Matt (not hush money this time because she received some before). This is the biggest con game so sad people can't see through it.

Honestly, the hundreds of gymnasts assaulted by their doctor....that’s hundreds of young women and parents who put their careers ahead of their health and safety. The victims were enabling the perpetrator just as much as anyone else. Same with the Harvey Weinstein mess. They participate as long as it’s getting them somewhere. Women need to look at their own accountability in these transactions. Even women are the victims it is not uncommon to have women say it is your fault... you've heard it said before, "Why would you be in a man's dressing room at late hours alone? What has surprised me most about men being inappropriate is when any woman speaks up about these moments starting with touchy-feely high school teachers (math & drama, for me in the mid 70s) that did it in the open, girls talking about how gross it made them feel, boys aware of it and FINDING IT FUNNY, and the absolute worse was when I spoke firmly, loudly, and bravely to take his hands off me one day, I spent many weeks sitting in the hallway, reading the math text book and teaching Algebra 1 to myself. Not one girl spoke up and said 'me too' because they saw how I got in trouble. I wonder if there were boys who could/would have been brave and support me if that happened today? I never went to the principal or told my mom because I was afraid of getting in more trouble. I have stories like that from high school, to part-time jobs at fast food joints, and on through to my mid-20s. So, I never spoke up again. I learned to sometime finding solutions that didn't require me to say the real reason for quitting because I began to believe that, THAT kind of behavior was just part of being a girl and young woman. Speaking out against the pervy male teachers and co-workers or owners of the fast food places only got you into trouble, or not having friends to back me up. My take away all these years later is that girls and women need to support and speak up honestly to make it crystal clear that sexist, grabby, men need to knock it off! Call the police to report a crime and stand up proud that you helped other victims, and you're sharing a warning to boys and girls that they have support systems and caring professionals to help you .
Ronan’s new book is riveting, I bought it a week ago and was finished in 5 days...this Ronan Farrow is brilliant, believable, hardworking! and deserves much acclaim and awards for his astute information gathered against the likes of Matt Lauer, Harvey Weinstein and others....all while NBC attempted to keep this news from coming forward. Other than the case that you're referencing, Whoopi, please list others. The fact is, you're greatly overstating this. Women (and children) are usually telling the truth about being sexually assaulted. It's so disappointing how often you take the wrong side or wrong point in a very important issue like this. Additionally, Meredith Vieirra knows them both, and she helped Brooke N. come forward to report the allegations. Seriously, you think she would have done that if she didn't feel the allegations were credible? That it was some sort of ploy? Please. (Again, she knows them both well.) I believe her. I believe her. I have been a faithful British TH-cam watcher of The View. I flipping love it. The Ladies Who Punch was a guilty pleasure read. Sonny is a brilliant addition to The View, and I am guessing the producers are recognising her sassy smartness. She interacts well with her fellow panalists too.
