*LYRICS - My Ozark Mountain Home* ------------ Well, the Colorado aspens are blowin' in the wind And the California redwoods grow so high they never bend When the sun sets over Kansas it may never ever end But as I watch the sun go down my heart longs to hear once again The whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam They remind me of where I've come from My Ozark mountain hoooooome My hoooooome From the dogwoods in the springtime to the white tail in the fall The neighbor's on the front porch just in case I come to call Mom and dad live down the dirt road, oh I've missed them most of all I think it's time to quit wanderin' and go back, back where I belong The whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam They remind me of where I've come from My Ozark mountain hoooooome My hoooooome Oh my mind, it wanders back to runnin' barefoot in the yard And Grandma yellin' "It's dinner time! Come on!" And hands joined around the table giving thanks with grateful hearts Then we'd fall asleep while crickets sing their song Hummin' right along... Hmmmmmmm Oh the whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam They remind me of where I've come from They remind me of where I've come from Down the holler where my heart will always run To my Ozark mountain hoooooome My hoooooome *Your Handy Ozark Glossary* - Ozark mountains (aka The Ozarks or Ozark plateau) - lush forest highlands covering the southern half of Missouri and northern Arkansas, extending westward into northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas - Aspens, redwoods and dogwoods - varieties of trees (flowering dogwoods are Missouri's state tree) - Whippoorwill - a bird with a loud call like its name, the classic sound of warm summer nights - Buffalo - the Buffalo River - White tail - white-tailed deer, most seen during rutting season in the fall - Holler - a hollow or small valley, often with a creek
I mean, I can understand why you are so visited and liked by many.....truly an attraction of what is good and missing in many peoples lives.........simplicity and beauty and your faith
Long time listener here - how did I miss this one for a whole year? Perfect vocals, vibrant radiant smile, never prettier. Katie didn't just sing and play, she shared her heart and soul. Genius, genuine.
Katie, I have come to understand that music groups must have both talent and genius to be successful. Everyone in the Petersen Band is talented, but it is in videos such as this one where we encounter the musical genius. You can't hide behind that fiddle forever.
You summarized this perfectly. Her song writing is absolute genius. The talent of her and her family is undeniable, but every one of Katie’s original songs are in a class by themselves
I have stucked in the memory of Katie, singing this song. Here accent is so beatiful here, telling the audiens, that she will clarify that in the song, before singing, and the rubber-band in here hair. It shows everything about here. Shes so lovely as a person.
Simply, I like this girl. What to add? A beautiful voice, playing musical instruments, a sense of music, its dynamics, and a beautiful little lady... Nice, perfect, beautiful, amazing....
Until recently I didn't even know what the Ozarks were, but now I know they must be the happiest mountains in Gods whole wide world, being loved by so talented a young lady as miss Katie Petersen. :)
Never been to the hills of the Ozarks, but this gorgeous song, beautifully rendered, actually makes me long for them. Great job, Katie. Every decent, sensitive, single man with an ounce of sense just fell hopelessly in love with you.
Thanks for the geographical clarification on the hills and mountains stuff. Classic!! … 😂 Seriously, is this lady the next (female) Billy Joel? So good. Thank you Katie.
This treasure of a song is destined to be cherished and sung still in 50 plus years’ time. Any of us still around then will feel privileged to say we were among the first to hear it. It celebrates a specific region of the USA, whilst also articulating beautifully the universal human experience of homecoming with fresh eyes, reminiscent of TS Elliot’s, ‘..the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.’ Katie, you’re fast establishing yourself as a considerable song writing talent.
Brilliant home coming song. The sort of thing you'd play when returning home after living or working away. Strikes a special chord in the same way Run For Home by Lindisfarne (written by the late great Alan Hull) and Home Newcastle by Busker do for us Geordies living away from Newcastle. Looking forward to the Glasgow gig in September.
Katie, please keep singing your songs, whether they be sad or happy, questions or answers, praying or praising, they are the handiwork of your heart and you are a pure artist. You have a pack of people far & wide wishing for you all the best.
I've grown up all my life in suburban Canada but I've always had a fascination with the Ozarks & their cultures and people. This song's very beautiful and helps me get good mental imagery of what places like those are like. Thanks a lot for brightening my day.
To The Women In The Petersens Family, Happy International Women's Day. To The Singer/Composer/Pianist, Your Song Is Lyrically & Melodically Great, Just Pure Music.
. It takes me back to a time in my life when I roamed the Ozarks, hunted coons and fished in the Buffalo River. The call of the whippoorwill was music to my soul then and I miss that. Thank you for that beautiful song Katie.
I live in the Ozarks..now for 6 years. We moved from Illinois, I love it here...MO to do! MO Freedoms! I only miss the rich soil in IL. We plan to go see your family in Branson this year! Can't wait!
I grew up here in the Ozarks. Lived in Colorado, Louisiana, and have been to most of the contiguous 48. I truly understand that voice calling you back home. Thank you for this, it stirred the inmost depths of my being.
Such a beautiful song Katie. The whippoorwill is one of my favorite birds to listen and talk too. Steadily talking back and forth. Keep writing from your heart ❤️.
I love your song. It doesn't describe my home, but the sentamrent does quite well. As an Army Brat for the longest time home was wherever I hung my hat. But HOME, for me, will always be my grandparents ranch in Northeast Washington State.
Anyone else repost a youtube video I'd ignore it and move on, lol! Not yours Katie!!!! Already listen to this half dozen times in the first post and listen to it again! You have no idea that waiting for you to show your original music, hearing you sing and seeing that smile is the reason to hold off and stick around to wake up the next day! TY!
I've never seen The Ozarks but your song really calls us to Explore Branson, you're a great ambassador! If these Hills are as beautiful, majestic and warm as in your song, then I believe they can also be called "Mountains"!
It’s a really beautiful place! One of the most amazing places to soak in the scenery from a houseboat! 6 of us did that a really long time ago, 87 or 88. It was a great escape we never repeated.
I absolutely LOVE it when people write an anthem/love song for their home! This starts a positive feedback loop where the love in your heart overflows into ours and then it just grows and grows.

Thank you from an Italian friend, not a fan. Ciao.
Whew!!! Thank you Katie for reposting this song.👍 We hadn't seen your smile since New Year's Eve. We were worried about you after your last two sad but beautiful songs. You felt our depression and this song comes at the right time to cheer up "your troops".😊 Positive criticism: you have made good progress because you seem less embarrassed to sing while looking at the camera (which is not obvious). Negative criticism: when you film the pianist from the front, you cut off his arms. Usually, you film from the side to admire the dexterity of the musician. Which should be preferred: the smiling face of the pianist or the walk of her fingers on the keyboard? The solution (easy to say): a second camera and an image embedded in the main one. Sorry for this message, but I have an emotional thought for the Ukrainian fans of Katie or the Petersen who unfortunately are condemned since 15 days to listen or hear another music... Friendly

I posted this on my FB in February 2017 after driving back home from being stationed in CO: Safely made it! Driving through MO this morning I had some time to reflect on my last 12 years away from home. I have snorkeled the reefs and slept on the beaches of Okinawa, swam the waters of San Diego, CA, walked through the pine forests of Ga, I have watched the sun peek over the mountains Colorado. I’ve spent more time walking the sands of foreign countries than I care to remember and I have discovered this: nothing beats watching the sun rise on the frosted oak covered hills of Missouri. I am for the first time truly homesick and glad to be back. Your song brings me back to that moment in my life. Thank you.
I was listening on my phone, but I had to stop because I knew that tiny speaker wasn't doing you justice. So I switched to my computer with the subwoofer... much better! Your voice is amazing as always, and I love the simple piano arrangement. Of course as an audio production specialist, I'm nerding out over the microphone setup! 5-stars.
What a truly wonderful song. Both this version and the one with the band. I believe this is a perfect anthem for one of the most beautiful regions of America.

A stunning song, penned and sung with a pure soul filled with talent and an appreciation for the beauty & wonder of this lovely nook of the World with its majestic rolling "Hills" of splendor and the fingerprint of God. Very well done, Katie! I would love to hear this song played with all of your Family and Emmett. I can hear those silky harmonies gently twirling in my head, along with Emmett's dobro massaging my spirit. All the Best!
Love it. The hills and mountains are the best place to live. Ask your Dad about remembering his Mountain Momma. We West Virginians always recall our hills fondly no matter where we roam.

They went through a difficult period: someone of them has gotten sick, Julianne's school and a few rainy days that prevented them from making new videos. But there are good news! Yesterday they recorded new videos that will be posted on YT soon. 😉

*LYRICS - My Ozark Mountain Home*
------------
Well, the Colorado aspens are blowin' in the wind
And the California redwoods grow so high they never bend
When the sun sets over Kansas it may never ever end
But as I watch the sun go down my heart longs to hear once again
The whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam
They remind me of where I've come from
My Ozark mountain hoooooome
My hoooooome
From the dogwoods in the springtime to the white tail in the fall
The neighbor's on the front porch just in case I come to call
Mom and dad live down the dirt road, oh I've missed them most of all
I think it's time to quit wanderin' and go back, back where I belong
The whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam
They remind me of where I've come from
My Ozark mountain hoooooome
My hoooooome
Oh my mind, it wanders back to runnin' barefoot in the yard
And Grandma yellin' "It's dinner time! Come on!"
And hands joined around the table giving thanks with grateful hearts
Then we'd fall asleep while crickets sing their song
Hummin' right along...
Hmmmmmmm
Oh the whippoorwill is callin' me to the place I long to go
Where the hills roll through the valleys down into the Buffalo
Slow and steady are the voices that I hear whene'er I roam
They remind me of where I've come from
They remind me of where I've come from
Down the holler where my heart will always run
To my Ozark mountain hoooooome
My hoooooome

Katie Peterson has one of the very finest voices in Bluegrass and she writes some great songs too.

Positive criticism: you have made good progress because you seem less embarrassed to sing while looking at the camera (which is not obvious).
