    Back on the road. This is the type of videos I enjoyed here when I subscribed years ago. Thank you for this video.
    I've always been fascinated by the northern coast of Spain. Both their architecture, landscapes and food. One day I'll go there (during the summer period, of course). I'm from Málaga.

    Thank you for a most entertaining video of Asturias. I am a first generation American of Galician immigrants. I have been back to Galicia many times to visit my family over the years. I have also had the good fortune to travel all over Spain, over the years. Asturias is also one of my favorite locales, especially along the coast. Your video raises my nostalgia to go back to visit once again. It raises within me morrina (accent on the n) to return to Galicia. A feeling of longing and desire.

    What a great couple of videos from Asturias Stu. Thank you. I'm glad I ate my meal before I watched the culinary delights one, or you would have made me super hungry! 😅 The cheesecake reminded me of the purportedly best in the world, from and which I had in Santander, a tapas mecca of Spain, no? When you were presented with the meat dish, I immediately thought he will only eat half that and then takeaway the rest. It did occur to me to share such a main course. Not an embarrassment if you have starters and especially a dessert afterwards! I'm in Málaga and the pimientos de padrón are ubiquitous here too. Very tasty and a favourite of mine. You have definitely much encouraged me to visit beautiful Asturias in the future. Thank you again! 😊 My name btw is Jennet (rhymes with the surname Bennett. 😉).

    I just tried my first Cachopo today and it was huge! I had trouble finishing it but I’m one of the lucky few that needs to put on some weight so Asturias seems like a good place for me. I had a fantastic fabada last night as well so I definitely recommend that. One thing I wish I knew before coming to Asturias was how to drink the sidra here. I thought, how hard can it be, but after getting laughed at I realized there’s a whole way to order and drink it. You cannot order just a cup of cider, you have to order the whole bottle which priced at 3.50 seemed too good to be true. And then you’re not supposed to sip the cider but rather drink it all at once leaving a little bit to clean the glass. I was wondering why my waiter took my unfinished glass and tossed it out. I had no idea there was all this etiquette to drinking cider! Hopefully this can save someone else from making the same mistakes.

    That part of Asturias is plenty of cherry trees and now is the season. Those cherries are somewhat different from the Castilian and Extremaduran ones that arrive to Madrid's markets and also can be picked for free. You don't have to eat cherries with fabada. You shouldn't drink beer with fabada either! (even worse)

    Love Asturian food and the people. So friendly. I Remember going to a little restaurant in the village square of Cué many years ago late one evening (11pm). "Are you still serving?" we asked. "Are you hungry?" replied the waiter. "Sit". Over the next 2 hours or so we watched as he and his sister effortlessly served in excess of 30 customers. She serving through the open window of the kitchen. We have been back many times since. best Tuna I've ever had. (PS We assumed they were brother and sister because of the banter between them and they looked like family. I may have made that bit up)

    There’s a Sidreria in Madrid on Calle Menorca (close to Ibiza metro station). It’s called Carlos Tartiere and it really makes you feel like in Asturias. Sidra (cider) served the traditional way and the cachopo is huge and very tasty 🤤 I can highly recommend it if you’re visiting the central but don’t like the busy and expensive places. Price is reasonable too. Paid €80 for me and the missus (cachopo is €25 on its own, plus steak, 2x dessert, 2x drinks per each).

    The Cachopo appears to be like the Swiss Cordon Bleu. Must say that I'd prefer a mediterranien dish (well there was tuna in the salad) at half the price. Going there (Calpe) on Monday and it's been too long since last time. Having worked hard in the vegetable garden, one can appreciate how much easier it is to grow tomatoes, Zucchini, aubergines, beans etc in a warmer climate. Rain helps so you don't have rely on irrigation all the time.

    • @jal051
      @jal051 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Asturias has very varied cuisine. Some dishes originate from the montains and are incredibly heavy (and Cachopo has its one culture of exageration, tbh. I'm Asturian and I never eat it unless I split it with another person) and other dishes are from the coast with many different types of seafood. There are also several types of local stews with a lot of veggies and a bit of meat.

      In Asturias, we usually go out for lunch or dinner at a sidreria or restaurant once or twice a week. in Spain we have a menu of the day, which consists of: first plate, second plate, dessert, bread and drink (Water, wine and in some places a bottle of cider) and you can choose between 3 - 4 different meals for the first plate and the same for the second for a price of between 10 - 15€. They do not put a cachopo on that size but the portions are very abundant, so there are many people who eat like this regularly. And you do not have to finish it, you can order the leftovers to take! hahaha

    We ate at Agorregi in Donostia San Sabastian last October. Seven course pre fixe lunch and it was spectacular. €150 for two including a bottle of wine . We also ate at a 4star place that I forgot the name off but it was super uncomfortable with far too many different servers and a snotty maitre d who looked shocked when my fiancé ordered a glass of wine and I declined.

    Northern Spain has the best food in the country. The cuisine in the majority of Spain is quite basic and bad, but in the north, from Galicia to the Basque Country, it's actually very good! Asturias has some great panned meat and good "sidra"! Cheers!!!

      The cuisine of the north of Spain is the best, agree, but the rest of the country has a lot of variety and quality too. You should travel more.

      @@Kakonan I have travelled a lot through Spain and that's my opinion. If you get out of touristic places in Spain food in most of Spain is sh*t and incredibily overrated. There are some exceptions, of course, but that's mostly the rule.

    Can be something more British than going to a "food paradise", then ordering a schnitzel with fries and a scout fair-quality dessert? :] What's next? Going to Ubrique and pop in to a Primark for shoes? :)

      Well, cachopo is something you eat typically in Asturias. He did what locals do.

    I must be the only person who thinks that this looks like a very unhealthy meal. A huge piece of breaded deep fried beef filled with ham n cheese . It didn’t even look nicely presented in my opinion , just like a “menu Del dia “ in any local bar/ restaurant in Spain . Even the salad didn’t look appetizing, maybe it’s the video . Far too expensive for what you got! Having said that I thoroughly enjoyed your video and I understand that when in different regions one would like to try the local regional dishes . Keep up the walking 😜
