Although this kit is a bit over my usual budget, your build has convinced me I need to add this to my collection (in RCAF livery, of course) First time watching, and I really enjoyed it.
@@MTAviation123 I haven't seen a ten dollar model kit (even 1/72 armour or 1/144 aircraft) in years! But, yeah, I'm probably in the $20 -$40 range. Since my comment, I did purchase the kit and will probably finished it soon. I'm a very slow builder
Awesome finish. For those manufacturers issues on the HUD, I cut them off and use the clear plastic from the random "adult proof" packaging of everyday stuff we buy. Works great and is easy to work with.
Great build! Love it how minimal improvements and gentle touch of weathering can make a simple kit look so realistic. And the prototype itself is amazing)
Sweet build!!! I love how it turned out. Just the right touch of weathering I agree. I love that period RAF markings... to tell the truth, I love ALL RAF markings!! Happy Christmas to you all!!!
your content is awesome matey. Been building since I was 6 (44 now) and I've learned quite a few new techniques and ideas... Would love a video showing your set up, spray booth etc..
Awesome Vampire mate, theres one as a gate guardian at Ohakea airbase near where I live, here in NZ. A local businessman also has a restored Venom which he gets out and flies regularly. I've got a few 1/72 CMK, Heller, and Special Hobby Vampires/Venoms in the stash.
After watching a number of these kit builds on YT this Airfix stands out a sub quality. But I used to make Airfix models as a kid so there is a market for them.
Hello there. I'm glad I stumbled apon your channel great work chap, not just the build but the video editing too. 👌 maybe do a video of your setup to help an ageing modeller do something similar. Keep up the great work
Awesome build. Great channel, love all the work. But the Vampire didn't have any rivets did it? I thought the whole point of DH was aerodynamics and streamlining? I stand to be corrected
Yes, definitely rivets (faintly) visible on the metal areas - wings, tail, tail booms and panels over the engine. Forward fuselage was plywood, like the Mossie.
I’m currently building this and if mine finishes like this i will be very pleased, it might be new tooling but its typically airfix the cockpit is very basic and the join line around the nose will take a lot of securing to attempt to conceal the gap as the front upper sides springs out a lot.
Outstanding result you achieved there. Really like the slight weathering job you applied, too- I'm of the opinion that most people weather the hell out of their kits, but hey, it's theirs, so whatever gets you through the day. Love the effect this brought to yours, though. Funnily enough, I had just recently watched a short video on the Sea Vixen, and the Vampire was referenced a few times, as well. While there were enough stylistic differences to tell them apart, you could definitely see the family resemblance. Appreciate the videos as always, and have a great week.
Additional comment/question: Is it possible for you, to show/build a FORD TRIMOTOR ? Thank you for feedback ! i love your high skilled works !!! Greets, Frank 👍🙂
Hi, I didn't do any clean up here, I guess it depends how hard you press and how deep you make them. A bit of soft sand paper and an air brush to blow the dust out would work if you need to clean the surface of them. Cheers
I enjoyed your VIDIO very much! I'm trying to use oils to weather and cannot find WHITE SPIRIT thinner. Is there anything else that will substitute for this product. Thank you for reading this.
Thank you for this wonderful video. Question. I really hate riveting compound surfaces. I never get them right. To my eyes the "dimples" on the real thing are hardly noticeable. Do you think I could get away with riveting the wings but not the fuselage? Thank you.
After many years away from the hobby and recently started modeling again, I have found your videos both informative and entertaining. Where did you get the metal paint pot holder which you keep your thinners in? It’s an efficient way to store these liquids.
Further to my previous comment, it looks like (at least for delivered to Australia prices) "Liquid Gravity" comes in about half the price of what Chinese sellers are pricing tungsten putty at by weight. This doesn't include the slight cost of binding epoxy required for the "Liquid Gravity" in some cases. The AU$4.50 for 22grams does seem a bit expensive.
Hi there. A few months down the track since this build, I wondered how your nose cone on this build was behaving with the tungsten putty? I have used some heavy plasticene in the past to prevent tail sitting, however it reacted with the plastic over time and ruined the model. I am going to order some tungsten putty and give it a try as I have previously also used "Liquid Gravity" (commercial product) mixed with epoxy, however this stuff is much more expensive than what tungsten putty appears to be. Would it be possible to mix a lead sinker weight core with the putty, I wonder? I guess I can try that too. Any thoughts? BTW, thanks for posting these videos - it's very much appreciated.
YO! i love these things! their my favorite plane production company, i play simpleplanes so i find people building so many de Havilland's!!!! my favorite so far is a version called the "De havilland Fennec" its a vtol!
great build. Recently found your channel and loving your work. I have heard negative comments about AK extreme metals and how long they take to dry, given their similar to enamels, otherwise you risk rubbing the paint off. Have you had negative experiences and if you don't mind confirming how long did you leave it before handling again. Need to get some Rosies for my future Hind build but never done that befroe, so was good to se them in action and added great detail. Many thanks and keep up the great and informative builds.
Hi Mark, then only time I have ever had an issue with Xtreme metal is when I didn't shake them enough. All the sediment at the bottom needs to be mixed in. I really dries pretty quickly, but after painting I normally leave it until the next day anyway. One thing I don't know is what they are like with decal solutions etc, I've always sealed it with a varnish first. Thanks, Andy
@@ScaleModelShed many thanks for replying to my question which is really helpful. If you don't mind me asking a follow up, which varnish do you use on these paints to maintain the metallic finish rather than it just looking silver? Thanks again for your advice. Mark
Nice, but you mentioned that the Polished Aluminum paint was a good representation of the real aircraft's aluminum. The Vampire was actually painted overall in High Speed Silver.
Hi, Thank you for the comment. I didn't know what the finish was, so thanks for letting me know. If I wanted an actual polished finish, I would have put it onto a gloss black to make it look polished. My thinking was purely that the tone of the polished aluminium, onto a flat surface, was a good representation. Thanks for watching. Andy
Small cheer here for "...not going to be adding a pilot." How can we see modern, more detailed, cleverly engineered models and still have a blob for a pilot with arms stuck to his legs like a 1/72 model from the 60s?! A figure with separate legs/ torso/ head and a choice of arms could make some really cute diorama effects but that seems like too much work for almost all manufacturers, where the driver is a complete afterthought.
Merry Christmas!
Although this kit is a bit over my usual budget, your build has convinced me I need to add this to my collection (in RCAF livery, of course)
First time watching, and I really enjoyed it.
what is your budger range?
Mines 10 to 40 max

Я их в детстве штук пять собрал. В магазинах других не было, а собирать модели хотелось!😊
Unreal what you have done here. Amazing model of an amazing aircraft. Now you need to build a mosquito to go with it, and The Shepherd is complete.
Really enjoyed watching this build . . . Beautifully done.
This guy is one of the best Iv'e seen great viewing!
Love watching a master at work!
Nice!... there is a DH Vampire close to me in a museum...we used to operate them with our RNZAF.. thanks from NZ. 👍🇳🇿
Good shout on the tungsten putty, never seen that product before. Very handy.
Well, that was just kick ass.
You have a very unique approach.
Very skilfully finished. That weathering is very authentic.
.....ооочень красивая,творчекая работа!....

Very nice work - and a great tip re the tungsten putty - my Vampire build had come to a halt with trying to get some nose weight in !
Great build! Love it how minimal improvements and gentle touch of weathering can make a simple kit look so realistic. And the prototype itself is amazing)

Nicely done!
Fantastic video the finished model looked brilliant.I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching your other builds.

I love how you did the weathering. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely awesome job.The weathering looks fantastic. Also great tip with the Tungsten putty.

Had the opportunity to see one of these fly at an airshow a few years ago, surprisingly quiet. Your build turned out excellent!
Yet another amazing build and paint job you’ve made airfix model look absolutely stunning
Those rivets looked great and made those wings stand out 👏👏👏
Amazed how you took a so-so grade model to the next level. Looking forward to the next. Thank you.
After watching a number of these kit builds on YT this Airfix stands out a sub quality. But I used to make Airfix models as a kid so there is a market for them.
Superb. Now I just need to shrink myself and go for a flight!
How timely - saw a video on the vixen? The other day and mentioned to wife my first airfix kit was a vampire circa 1972 - enjoyed the video

Really good video, so on the strength of it you have gained a new sub :D
Great job..Tungsten Putty..now that sounds like a good un'

Yes, definitely rivets (faintly) visible on the metal areas - wings, tail, tail booms and panels over the engine. Forward fuselage was plywood, like the Mossie.
Very nice, the restrained weathering brings it to life.
Great video. And thanks for the great tip about the tungsten putty, never heard of it before now.
Another really enjoyable build. Always. Learn something useful along the way. Thanks.
Excelent work..!! George from Argentina
Excellent work on one of the iconic aircraft of our time,
Superb build. Loved the way you solved the nose weight issue. Looks great!
Very good!!!
Please,1/48 Kinetic Mirage IIIE
lovely build and superb commetary
Great build and finish. Picked up some very useful tips 👍 thanks for sharing.
I’ll give it an M. For museum quality. Nice work. Thanks
Nice build, weathering is spot on!
The plane turned out beautiful.
Very nice build. Great video production technique, too.
Excellent video of an iconic plane. Great build.
Looks amazing ! Got a vampire in my stash ! Not airfix but looking at this video I think I’ll get one! Cheers
Great job on the rivets.
I could build a Canadian one so naturally I'm interested.
Nice work, it looks sharp.
Why drill holes into the lower wing? To attach the drop tanks? There's 4 holes and two drop tanks?
Very nice model. Hopefully we will see this kit in the US sometime before 2025.
Sweet build, love the subject.

Hi, yes it is typical Airfix. Many of the joins need holding/forcing into position until the glue is cured. Thanks, Andy
Lovely build and finish 😉
Great build. Nicely restrained weathering 👍
Thanks you, thanks for watching.
The chamber they later provided to fill with liquid ballast on the Buccaneer saves so much messing about with fishing weights. Looking back.
It's fantastic.
It inspired me a lot.
I'm looking forward to the next work. :)
Beautiful work mate!!

Hi John, no reaction yet! It is a very small space to get quite a lot of weight! Thanks for watching.
What gloves do you use? They look quite durable.
How much did you thin the AK Aluminum, and what did you use to thin it? Thanks
We want the Vampire T-11 in 1/48. Any probability?
Bump!
Liked & Subbed
⭐️ lovely job…the effort put into the rivets paid off big time 😎 ⭐️ 👍

what paint brushes do you use
I have an issue with the trend to over weather aircraft. As a rule we looked after our aircraft as if they were irreplaceable. which they were
Where can I buy this kit?
Airfix website or any good model shop. Wonderland Models is good.

It should be painted, speed silver. It was mostly made of wood with an aluminium skin over the fuselage that was also painted silver.

Not sure 1/48 scale adds a lot over the 1/72 model but you brought it to life well.
