You sir saved me. I decided to experiment with rooting and flashing roms, something really bad happened and I had no idea how to get back to stock. You saved me. Mad props go to you, thanks man!
No problem , glad to help :-)
Thank you so much for this! I attempted a basic factory reset on my Nexus 5, but was stuck on the erasing screen with little hope. Many tutorials online were partial, or had small mistakes in their descriptions which left me stuck. This tutorial saved my phone. Thank you.
exactly!!the best video i've seen for flash kitkat 4.4 on my nexus 4!!works great!!thanks man..
As most of your probably reniewed traffic on this video in the past few days, i also flashed Android L on my Nexus 4 with your help! Didn't think it would be that easy so thanks for the help man!!
No problem
awesome video. I have done this multiple times and it always worked.
Chris: man, I have been trying to find the EXACT information on your channel for the past 24 hours. I can't tell you how incredibly helpful your videos are. I thought I was going to have to get a new phone! This is gold, man. Thanks a ton. I thought I was losing my mind for a while.
No problem! glad to help out :)
worked a charm! thanks!!!
A thousand thanks Chris! I've spent over 4 hours trying to fix my nexus 10 that crashed today on Christmas and your video did the trick! :)
Glad to help out :)
If you open up flash-all.bat and erase "-w" command you will save all of your data.
-w (wipe data)
Cheers
Nice, does it actually work ? i heard someone tried it a while ago and it still wiped the data, but they may have just typed it wrong
I honestly spent 5 hours trying to achieve this, and after watching this video it only took me 5 minutes. Thankyou sooo much.
To anyone else having troubles read through all the comments, Chris has answered so many questions.
+Ashok Vishnu it works for 5.0 and 5.0.1 too, i used it :)
Yeah same here, android 5.0.1 completely screwed my nexus 4 up, but this got it working a again ^.^
Got it :) Thanks once again :)
You are the best! I've watched so many useless tutorials on this that got me nowhere and yours is the shortest and got it done. Thanks so much. Cheers!
Glad to help :)
+leonidas dms press and hold shift , right click the folder and use " open command window "
Ok figured it out.dude you are awesome all the other tutorials were so confusing you simplified it really well. Thank you!!!! I got stock 4.4 on my nexus 4!!!!
glad you sorted it ,
I o u 1000 pounds
Glad to help out
dude thank you soo much. I have worked with tool kits so this was new to me. I followed your video step by step, pause and start, pause and start and was able to upgrade. I had roms, kernels and TWRP recovery so this fresh start was what I was looking for. Worked great the first time. Used you links for the firmware and sdk. love your video and podcast so keep up the good work. THANKS again
Thank you Chris. These are the instructions that Google should have posted along with the Factory Images. After much head scratching, I came across your video and suddenly all became clear!
You saved my nexus 4. I almost bricked my phone yesterday. I deleted all the files from my nexus. Now it is back to life again. A huge thanks to you. Keep up your good works. Million thanks again.
I didn't want to wait for OTA so I tried this method to flash the new Lollipop and everything worked perfect. Thank you Chris. I love you!!
Awesome glad it worked for you!
Thank you SO much for your tutorial.
Since the Cyanogenmod installer relies on a pre-installed 4.3 version, and i was dumb enough to try it with my Nexus 4 with 4.4 on it... well. Eventually i discovered the WiFi bug.
Your tut helped me to get back to 4.3.
no problem :-)
My Nexus 5 was having some problems and using this tutorial helped me fix my Nexus 5. Thank you. Awesome video as always
:-)
Thanks a lot! I was looking all over the internet for an explanation like this, and no one else seemed to have a clue.
Superb video Chris. Thanks! I wasted three evenings trying to get this to work, only to find I had downloaded the wrong package from Google. Doh! so for others, select carefully. I haven't bothered with Android 5 on my Nexus 7 but 4.4.4 had made it a complete dog so, using your method, I've restored 4.4.2 and it's like a new tablet. Thanks again!
Nice! glad to help
Thank you so much, saved me hours of frustration. I don't get why this was so simple, where all over forums they make it sound like a tedious task.
No problem, glad to help :)
Thanks for this. Just restored my 2012 N7 back to 4.1.2 original shipped rom. Soooo nice to have it working like new again!!
I love you, you saved my Nexus 5!
Man..this is the most great tuto about the instalation in nexus 4 i see. Fast, simple, clean...Congratulations! That´s mean mi like click! Thanks. I do today on Ouctuber 2016 and works fine.
You saved me when I messed up ENTIRELY on my phone!! THANK YOU
Glad to help!
Very gooooood !!! This is my standard approach for fresh install after a lot of custom roms installed...Thanks!!!
You are the man!!! Android 4.4!! you saved me twice
how to know if the bootloader is locked and how to unlocks it?
Trickdone507 if you havent unlocked the bootloader.. its locked... to unlock you need to enter " fastboot oem unlock" in cmd from the platform-tools folder.
it works :D and btw u can just simply drag the flash-all file into cmd center and enter. Boom!
nice find
Initially couldn't install the device in fastboot mode so I manually downloaded and installed the drivers. I'm on windows 8.1. Great guide overall thank you now I'm back on stock
Tried this metod with a nexus 4 and android 5.1 and it worked just fine. Thanks :)
Thanx for this very informative tutorial ... helped me a lot. I had a custom kernel that shut down the wifi on the device and i just put the factory img using your tutorial and it works now so thx again for this
No problem :)
Thanks A lot, I had a bricked Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 and now they updated with lollipop and running smoothly.
No problem :)
Huh sorry ? im very confused with your comment.... when kitkat comes out , just flash the factory image for kitkat like in this video , yes you lose your data, but its a fresh start and thats always a good idea when a new android version is out. ... there are ways to unroot, but it depends if you have a custom rom / kernel/ recovery
I made it ::)).i've got android 4.3.sorry for being so noob but it's my first android phone and my first time doing this.the problem was that the bootloader was locked.so it took me a while till i realized that.then all worked out smoothly.thanks for all your time and help.respect
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful when I was trying to figure out how install the Android L image on my Nexus 7.
Glad to help
Thank you! I installed a custom rom and it didn't want to detect my sim-card, imei,... I tried flashing a radio but that didn't work, this is the only thing that worked.. thank you so much :)
dont worry about that ... just do this ... click the platform-tools folder once... then hold shift and right click the folder , now press " open command window here" or something along those lines
Thank you so much, I completely bricked my nexus 5 5.0.1 and this totally fixed the majority of my problems. :)
Thanks bro. for noobs like meI had to first 1) install android SDK, 2) Unlock Galaxy nexus boot loader. You can search youtube for those two and you should end up with an android 4.3. Thanks again for the uploader of this video.
To keep your data and apps intact, open the flash-all.bat file in notepad, search for '-w', which is for wiping the data, and erase that part. Hope this helps!
Thanks for answering i finally got it up and running, but i had to retry at least 4 times, i got different messages like, "failed to read, too many links", "out of memory" but at the end it went smooth thanks for the vid!
My computer took 75.05 seconds. Awesome video. i loved your videos from the start
ALRIGHT. Downloaded Nexus tool Kit 5.4. Give you the option to install drivers and Flash without Debugging mode. then when drivers installed i used your "flash-all.bat" steps and it worked. Thanks bud. after 5 months my Nexus is back up and running :)
Thank you, thank, thank you i finally did it, thanks for all the help, thanks for all the patience and support
can't thank you enough for this video. I've used this video way too many times lol. Damn Android and their ROMs 😊.
I have a Nexus 7 (2013) that got OTA to 6.0.1 and it bricked my tablet. To anyone with a Nexus 7 (2013) DO NOT UPDATE YOUR TABLET TO 6.0.1 THE UPDATE WILL BRICK YOUR TABLET. That's why I'm here, couldn't even use WugFresh's NRT.
i was having so much trouble with this whole 4.4. factory image... till i found this video! it works :D im so happy now Thank you! BUT i had to search the comments to find out how to unlock bootloader... you should put it in your Info section under the video for noobs like me lol Thank You!
yea to be honest, i just forgot about the bootloader seeing as i already had it done, but nevermind, at least it worked out :)
thanks a lot man....... you saved my phone from the dead... Cheers mate.
Since some time ago i had the intention to do a complete cleaning on my Nexus.
Today was the day. Thanks for your help.
I suggest you to record your presentation with a better video quality.
I solved the problems I had, so thank u oode, your tutorial was awesome, and I love n4 much more :D
you need to open CMD from within platform tools .. do this .. click once on the platform tools folder.. then hold shift and right click... select " open command window here " it will then work
every other pages i've been lokking at sucks compare to you! so easy and smooth. THANK YOU
glad to help :-)
Cheers for this oode! I have been looking how to do this, and this is a great video.
Just installed Android 5.1 on my Nexus 4, thanks for the video!
this was amazing, this saved my phone's life
Glad to help out :)
Thanks for the clear, concise tutorial.
You sir, are the Sal Khan of the the Android rooting world.
yes you have two options.. one is use this ^ method above... the other ( if you have a custom recovery) is to sideload a rom
Changed the backup folder destination like you said, works fine now, cheers!
I finally got it working. The Google USB driver didn't work for me. I installed the driver using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit v11.1. I also used the toolkit to unlock the phone. After that, everything worked as you described. Thanks a lot.
[continuation] It looks like flashing the stock images requires the Nexus to reboot. Unfortunately it goes back to the red light of death state if it reboots, and can't flash anything at all. Perhaps the best thing for me to do now is look for the T5 screwdriver and reconnect the battery bridge. Sorry for spamming the comments section.
great video...I always keep coming back to be sure..but this video is as crystal clear it can ever get in terms of the flashing process..kudos to you!
Thanks!
How long did you wait ? the initial boot can take 3-4 mins... if that doesn't work , you have two options. 1 ) flash the factory image again 2) boot into recovery and wipe caches.
thanks a lot for this video. i was scared to do this stuff but i did it anyways and now i know it's very easy and safe to do, so thank you
No problem glad to help
Ah I had to extract the .tgz file several times before ending up with the actual factory image folder. Thanks for the video :)
dont worry about twrp.img thats a custom recovery that isnt used in this video....
if you dont have a device show up in CMD in means the drivers are not installed correctly, so need to get those drivers for it to work .. .
Google " google usb driver" and its the first link
got it... didnt know that you have to be in the platform-tools folder on cmd.
Great ViD!!
thanks alot, This worked after dealing with the nexus tool kit for hours
You are the real M.V.P you saved my phone from bootloop hell.+1 sub
No problem, glad to help! welcome aboard!
***** thanks Chris; YOU are the best!!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍☝☝☝☝☝☝
💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
ok so , when the device is plugged in.. and in fastboot mode... go into the " device manager" and see if your device is there .. or if theres an " unknown device" if its unknown, click it and go to properties , then search your hard drive for the driver
Worked just fine on my Nexus 5. Thanks!
I have a Nexus 4 and it failed to update to 4.4. I managed to make it right with your help. Thank you!
great stuff
I download the factory images but I only get the one file whenever i extract the file. It doesn't contain the flash-all.bat file
yes , you can use this tutorial , just make sure you download the 4.3 for your galaxy nexus .... you wont have root, you will completely go back to stock .. including the recovery
for it to recognise it you need the google usb driver.. thats in the extras part... you will also need to force windows ( if you use windows) to use the driver
You can just right click anywhere in the platform-tool folder and select 'Open command window here'. It'll open cmd directly there. Just like having cmd.exe there.
the procedure is the same yes ... go to your " about phone" section, it should tell you which version it is in the build number ( i think)
I SOLVED THE PROBLEM, that didn't work on windows 8! i've done this on my other pc with windows 7. THANKS MAN :)
Congrats, Windows 8 is a pain
Thanx alot (d)oode, this helped alot. Had to figure out how to get window's 8 to recognize the driver, but after that it worked like a charm.
google " google USB Driver " its the first link... the adb utility is in the android SDK .. so you need to download the " Android SDK"
Thank you it had worked i downloaded the files once more and flashed all again then it works
Love you man, thought my phone was gone!
No problem, glad to help!
THANK YOU, Honestly, Your videos alongside the XDA-Devs helped me Un-brick my Nexus 4 :D Thanks
Thanks, you actually saved my ass and helped me installing Android 5
Glad to help!
ok so ...jakjuxw android build are sold by Samsung and updates are also pushed by Samsung so updates are usually delayed by couple of weeks or months.
.. so in that aspect im not sure you can use it ,:(
thank you. just recovered from my second soft brick :)
trying to move on from Android4Ever to Xenon HD 7.1.2
now i can tri agen :)
thanks man, i wasnt a fan of lollipops and this was a huge help for going back to 4.4.4. i would of been cluesless without your help
No problem, glad to help :)
***** mostly just small complaints. Didn't like all the whiteness in material design, few bugs, bit of lag after awhile (rebooting fixed it but was still annoying) and battery wasn't lasting as long.
Dry Fy Yea the performance degrading over time is annoying, 5.0.1 hasn't been like that yet for me, so thats good
yea i heard windows 8 has an issue with the ADB driver, but glad you got it worked out :-)
Thanks for the video! Just upgraded my nexus 7 (2012 version of course) to 4.3, it feels like a totally new device. dont know if it is the new system or just because the wipe-all though. Now i'm enjoying the stock 4.3 on nexus 7 and waiting for the upcoming custom 4.3 ROM for nexus 4.
Thanks Dude!! pretty easy and well explained
to unlock bootloader type : fastboot oem unlock
thanks m8 for your video helps a lot!
that means it hasnt recognised your device .. type " fastboot devices" is your device listed ? ( should be numbers ) if not ,you need the correct drivers.. either the Google USB driver.. or because the GN is samsung, you may need some Samsung drivers.
You said "head over to the android SDK" and "wherever you've installed this" but you didn't mention anything about it up until that point. Might be a good idea to put a link in the description of where to download it.
either go into the recovery and wipe the caches .. or reflash the factory image, make sure downloaded the correct files.
THIS HELPED A LOT. THANKS MAN! TOTALLY SHARING THIS!!!
No problem, glad to help :-)
The simplest way whenever i bricked my device. Thanks alot mate!
No problem :-) glad to help
Thank you for your video, very good even for begginers like me.Keep on doing great job like that mate :) Helped me a lot with my nexus 5
"fastboot is not a recognized internal or external command" ??
click platforms tools folder once, hold shift , right click again , click " open command window here" try again
Thanks for the simples videos for making my nexus back to stock android.
No problem :)
