    I love my Alpine Magnum stump grinder. One of the best investments I have made especially in Southern California with very tight areas can almost get to every stump now. Was definitely worth the money.

    Another thank-you to you. I appreciate the explanation about the machine and all that went with it. I have only used a big Vermeer. Sometimes we should have had an Alpine.
    Now, why do people have to write in and give you crap? They should be listening. For uncertainties they should be ASKING, not declaring.
    So - thanks again. As usual I too learnt a lot.

    As a homeowner who has removed a number of small trees I would have loved to have gotten my hands on this stump cutter. Most of the stumps I have removed have been a process of digging and clearing as much as I can. Then going after the stump with reciprocating saw. One time I got lucky and could clear enough to use the chainsaw.

    I've been following you for a few years now. I'm not a professional, but a person (and home owner with trees) interested in these enchanting lifeforms that make us and our lives possible. I'd hire you in a heartbeat if you weren't several hours away (I've got an oak tree needing to be cleaned up!); if there are haters, I suspect it's because they're jealous or internet trolls with peculiar interests.

    sad that people who have any bad comments , have not been in the industry for very long or are very narrow mined experience . I have worked with tree people whom have had 20 PLUS years all with the same company and complained contsantly about my techniques always try to criticize every thing I did. the one day i took him to a class . ISA had a hands on chain saw maintenance . after that class the individual never questioned anything I did after that . I have worked with several companies and still work for small companies just i love tree work plus I learn a lot even after 30 plus years .. that blair is a GREAT TOOL ! any good tree company should have one ..

    Love mine as well, especially the old TS760 engine, which is a tough collegue and delivers more torque at low rpms than modern saws, that's what you need with an Alpine. Mainly I use high HP grinders, but being able to do that single hard to get stump, gave me countless times the key to do all the others on the same property. It's a wonderful invention.

      I hope more viewers will tell me about their Alpine machines. There are only a few of them that I know about in my part of California. I was the first! A few of my competitors have seen me using mine and they bought one too.

    • @07martin1981
      @07martin1981 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arboristBlairGlenn I even bought a second unit just as spare, it is sitting for years now unused and just calms me, which is not bad either. Occasionally I use it as cut-off saw, just to keep the engine's gaskets happy. Once you rode along the learning curve, it get's the job done pretty fast, nudging one of my diesels in the garden takes sometimes longer than just throwing the Alpine across the thin tiles of the entrance. I'm all with you on that.

    I couldn't imagine the man hours it would take to Pulaski or axe out the stump in that planter. Not enough space to swing super tight spot. Great equipment for situations like that. Thanks for sharing!

    If landscaping, that grinder seems to be a very good choice. A big stump here and there shouldn't be to much problem. It's not a grinder I would use behind a logging company but such grinder for that would retire me for a few years. ;)

      @@arboristBlairGlenn The best money makers I have used over the years were the little equipment. The big equipment cost to much and sits unused most of the time. Known people to get big equipment and be forced out of business because they couldn't keep it on jobs or a single break down cost more than a house. Way I figure it, a $5 tool that makes $200 per day is a much better investment than say a $50,000 tool that makes $500 per day. ;)

    Hmmm, how many fences/obstacles have I have to deal with getting a regular stump grinder to a stump in a backyard/other tight locations? 75% would be a good guess.....I won't mention the fact of tracing roots.

  • @geekay4703

    Blair, I will not judge a person's tool preference. I in fact, own a 1986 hodges stump grinder. Her name is Peggy, Peggy the piggy. She gets in places a lot of others cannot and she packs quite a punch for a 16hp magnum kohler engine. I've taken out 6 foot wide stumps including oak, maple and pine. She beats you up but I love that machine.

    I considered to be a more affordable, portable and compact option to accomplish the same job, I imagine the places it can go and the cost to get it there compared to a full size tracked Vermeer unit. Definitely has a place and can earn its keep.

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also own a larger backyard machine that is much more durable for a lot of stumps. It’s the tough ones that are hard to get to, that demand a higher price. I also use it to plant trees (dull teeth), and that in itself is worth the investment.
