    WHERE were the young guys on your crew?? I would have delegated this one! After first stump, I thought, "Well, glad that's over!" Then seeing you drag the grinder up the steps and grinding the SECOND, including sharpening ... well, I'm exhausted and sore JUST WATCHING YOU! GOOOoooooOOO, Glenn!!!!

    Hi Blair enjoy watching your videos. Just after watching you doing a little stump grinding and I find if you drill some holes in the stump it seems to help. I have a machine for drilling stumps. I’ll send you a picture of it if you like. Kind regards Declan

      Hello again Blair we use bit sizes from 12 mm up to a maximum of 25 mm. My father reckons to start small for hard wood and work your way up in size. It makes the grinding a little easier. I just have to say I enjoy your videos Blair. I like the way you treat the trees with respect.

    I have enjoyed the knowledge you share in your videos. When it comes to stumps the size and condition in this video, you should consider subbing out the stump to a stump grinding contractor. You could have pocketed $25-50 and paid them to do it. With the right equipment, they would have come and finished in 20-25 minutes and you could have used your knowledge elsewhere. I own a Toro 13hp stump grinder, but at 59 years old, I usually sub out all but the smallest and easiest jobs. Just saying...

    Do you have a minimum for stump grinding? We won't grind anything for less than $200 at the very minimum even for a little 5 inch stump of course if we are doing several tiny stumps we will offer a deal

      By keeping my grinder with me, i can whip out an 85.00 job in no time. I think it would be stupid to put too high a minimum and piss off your loyal clients.

    • @arboristBlairGlenn

    • @gabemalcolm4429

      I 100% agree I was just curious, Just in my area that is still a very reasonable price bigger companies like Savatree and RTEC have an even higher minimum so people are fine with it.

      deborah dee we work in a lot of tiny yards. Real estate value is so high here that people want to use the space. Condos, 1500 sq ft, over a million dollars with people lined up to buy them! It is a sick system that has cheated our children.

    • @deborahdee3387
      @deborahdee3387 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen a married couple pay social security their entire lives, one died 4 years after retirement and the other had a serious stroke 3 years later. The government came in and sold their 90 + acres to pay for the nursing home care for a mere 2.5 years before they also died. They took the 30-something thousand dollars that was in the bank account as well.
      I'm pretty good at math, but this doesnt even add up right.
      No surplus? Nothing for their kids and grand kids. Sad indeed.

    • @dackbliamondexpeditions1928
      @dackbliamondexpeditions1928 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ender so, in your area a 32" stump.. 2.66 feet diameter is $1300?

    • @luvr381
      @luvr381 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, yes. I haven't had a stump more than half that size ground, so I can't say if there's a discount for larger stumps.

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is too high. With competitive pricing, and adjustments for hardness, rocks and location, i still just put a firm number on the job.

    Whats your opinion of using the epsom salts decomposition method, ... or just augering into the stump, and making a wooden rocket stove, and burn out the stump from inside out. Then don't need any grinding and throwing rocks or grinding wheels or teeth from a stump.
    Wheres that new chrome-plated, dangle-fangled marlin fishing tackle device you have ? Why can't you use that with a crane, and pulley lever ratchet that boy out of the ground the easy way ... instead of destroying your grinding machine. Just like pulling out a tooth (ahem! been there, done that). Pull it one way, snap some muscle attachments, pull opposite direction, snap some muscle attachments, pull up, repeat, repeat in other directions, and ever upward and outward. Eventually the stump gets the message to let go, and out comes the majority of the intact stump and root sections. Then deal with the lesser issues of the embedded roots.

    You ever get any grief about noise for the upper crust of the neighborhood you work in from time to time? I'd have to agree with you when you said the job was underbid. Thanks for the video. As usual I comment before the video is finished, were all these stumps removed for the amount you flashed on the screen near the start? If so I feel really bad for ya man. Far too much work for so little reward.... Is it getting to the Danny Glover point of view....I'm gettin' too old for this shit? lol A hard days work time to hit the showers, sorry for the novel.
