    Very Detailed and descriptive method of upgrading your chainplates. I do have to seriously disagree with the comment about the old style chainplate cover plate being merely decorative. This is the most standard way of sealing chainplates on most boats today. With all deck holes and openings it is necessary to bevel the edges. This not only provides a good seal but also keeps the Gel-coat from crazing. The old style cover plates are there to produce a gasket in order to provide a seal!

    I think Catalina should have thought of Chamfered holes and even isolating these areas from deck coring! It doesn't take much common sense to think this necessary...even my kids would think of this. Selling boats for thousands and then this. I wonder if the 34 MKII's or the Catalina 320's have eliminated this problem and isolated all through deck fixtures/fasteners from the deck core!
