  • How does the REGULAR Tesla Model 3 handle a big road course? What will it say about the future of electric driving?
The Tesla Model 3 Performance is the one that gets all the headlines: AWD, 2 motors, 0-60 in 3.2 seconds from a car that starts at $59,000. But what about the regular Model 3 Standard? The one with 1 motor and 258hp (equivalent)? How does it perform on a track? And what does it tell us about the future of cars?

All they need now are superchargers at all major tracks to make tracking Teslas a practical proposition.

At least ACS and Buttonwillow have superchargers close enough to top up at lunch.

this was good. i'm an old enthusiast, manual toyotas and audis. i also have a gravity sports background so I prefer the electric experience because I can hear the contact, similar to pedal bikes, skateboards, ski/snowboards. i did buy this lighter version of the 3 also (still seems heavy even after having audi), and the quickness is plenty for me as I have always been more of a momentum driver anyway. cant wait for two seater ev's.

Did you use full regen brakeing? It is my understanding that you can brake later. For me there seems to be some advantage going with the standard tesla 3. Its 230 kgs lighter and have rear wheeldrive. Furthermore it proberbly dosent need that hard a suspension setup compared to the dualmotors - which should give better comfort in daily driving.

Tesla can't complete a full 20 minute session without running out of juice.
Even if they did start with a range of 204 miles, going down to 168 is a loss of 38 miles of range, or 18% of total range. That's in 4 minutes of driving. Extrapolate that for a full 20 minute session and the loss would be 88% of the starting range. And that's assuming a steady state of discharge, which isn't accurate as the battery drains faster as it heats up.

@@mkud4129 offending someone =/= starting a debate. youtube is a childrens place but you're not helping if you generalize commentors.
on topic: the tesla is trying so hard to look and be futuristic, but it's just not. it was/is a milestone in EV development, but since EVs leave a big CO2 footprint there is no point in getting one, at all. When I see someone driving a fancy EV I know for a fact: that person couldn't care less about the environment. Because there is no person who is responsible about the CO2 footprint he/she leaves on our world going "you know what would help the environment? buying a 100,000$ new car!". and don#t talk about "entry level car msrp 30k" in europe the model 3 starts at more than 50,000€, and these cars probably have a 1 hour range (in autobahn terms, autobahn consumption = 2 or 3 times the normal consumption).
I've been around these cars and did some research and here's my view -> Teslas are status symbols, fancy gadgets, are useful if you're trying to date a dumb hipster/environmentalist girl, they are modern and they offer 2 party tricks (see below), but one thing they are not, they aren't good for the environment. at all. and don't say "blah blah the technology will improve" because if that's your arguement then you can't argue about the fact that biodiesel technology will also improve therefore there's another solution as good as yours, which doesn't require me to sacrifice fun and doesn't require me to buy a new car.
These are the 2 party tricks a Tesla provides: acceleration and turning capabilities. Due to low center of gravity, instant torque and grip these 2 tricks never fail to impress, nevermind they actually do because you can't go for a full lap of the nurburgring without entering limp mode and having to slow down a 2,5 ton car makes you unable to do sporty driving in the kinds of environments that true driving enthusiasts love.

But certain components causing a bottleneck. Majority of those issues have been solved since 100D battery 2017. 2nd You would hit power low battery drain in a 40 Min track session before you get to Overheating. So before stating False Insinuation / Lies. Learn how this stuff works.
