*So much parts at this scale, that's gluttony! Thanks for the review of this beautiful kit!*

For a 1/72 there's lots of parts, options and steps.....Airfix certainly has come a long way since those same scale kits hit the stores back in the 1960s and 1970s. Looks like a fun kit to build so thanks for the review, MN.

Thanks - they really have stepped up their game. And I was wrong about the cockpit - the whole canopy slides back, so it can be positioned open.

    “Where’s your Buccaneers?”
“On the side of me Buccan head!”
Can’t wait to see this build! 😁

The reason why there are two Jolly Roger flags is that it was the squadron insignia of no. 12 Squadron of the RAF. Both marking options are for the same squadron.

Thanks. I just wondered why there were two when I initially looked at them (since you can only use one), but they are subtly different.

The ol' Banana Bomber...... terrific aircraft and one of my absolute favourites. Looking forward to this, if you video it......
PS. The canopy slides back in its entirety from the front screen.

Thanks - yes, I'm definitely going to video it. And thanks for the correction on the canopy - I should have spotted that.

Nice video. Couple of points...the funny head of the pilot is the actual kit designer from Airfix. Maybe the different air brakes are for a/c that were ex Navy and one delivered to the RAF? Given the sliding portion of the canopy is separate, can you not fix it open?

Thanks Paul. Yes, you're completely right about the sliding canopy - my mistake on that one for sure.

Good size kit for 1/72, comparing to the WW2 1/72 " fighter" kits She is definitely a big bird, we would say " Zophtic" in the Colonies. I have always been interested in the difference of UK versus " other world" fuselage aerodynamics Especially the Vickers bomber series and this model. It looks very bulky and yet was an exceptional aircraft. The British have also kind of mastered the design and efficiency of the bomb bay on all their tactical aircraft, Lancaster being most notable. Of the Vickers series the Vulcan has been a good example of what I mean, massive aircraft, you would never think those engines would make her fly, but it was a " piece of cake". I'm wondering if the paint referenced in this kit for desert pink resemble the same desert pink from WW2? Thanks for the excellent review. Cheers till the next one.

Thanks :) I was thinking of looking at the SAS Jeep I painted in AK Real Colors WW2 desert pink and seeing how that might work. I feel like the Buccaneer paint might be less red and more yellow, but I can try. From what I've read the initial colour used wasn't even an RAF paint but one from a DIY store!

Hi model nerd when is the next part of the ardennes farm diorama come out?

It won't be for a while, but I am still working on it (slowly!)

The thing I’m most impressed with is the engineering detail of the internal supports included for the non folded wings and closed air brake. Those parts must be thinner than normal in order to approximate their scale thickness when visible, making them weaker. Good on them for thinking of that.
This may be another of those kits where you have to go a little bit overboard compared to your older, more light-handed weathering style. Desert sand does terrible things to aircraft paint. Not sure how well chipping will work in 1/72 scale but I’m sure you’ll do it justice.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks Mark. Yes, you're right - a combination of chipping, repainting, and the slap-dash painting of the initial desert pink itself (it was done overnight and allegedly some aircraft took off before it was even dry)

@@ModelNerd I don't think you really got it, MN. I'm referring to the second time in my life where I had to crush all my models due to moving house again. But now as I write this, I notice that I misspelled in the previous comment ("crashed" instead of "crushed"). I guess, that explains everything 🙂
