I would just like to let you all know that we are not the sort of people that require warning labels for everything. We know that if you leave the fire on and tap closed it can create pressure. We would never do that! So thanks for the input!
Utter utter foolish ..... and what was all that about lighting the gas supply on a dismantled burner creating a massive dangerous flame in front of a juvenile? What a giggle that was . Absolute madness .
@@terrytonkin2682 yeah, very risky! Well, I'm a fire professionell fighter for 28 years now and I highly recommed you a CO sensor because of the wood stove and a gas-sensor, used in mobile homes, to detect gas leaks!
@Grant Jones and after Emelia falls down the stairs and no one is at the helm, the boat hits another boat and it sinks. And then to cap it off it's hit by a meteorite. So not just a CO sensor, and a gas sensor, the boat needs a collision avoidance system and a secondary radar system to detect meteorites.
You have made a bomb. Keep adding heat to the coil with the hot tap closed and at some point, it will blow some high-pressure steam through the weakest connection out onto something. Hopefully not a kid's face or hands. It's clever -- I'll give you that -- but some nasty steam burns and a trip to the emergency room will make it seem less so. Just get a proper water heater - safety is too important. Especially with kids around.
Having a business where you are upgrading vans and campers is definitely paying off. You have a shop with all of the tools and materials on-hand. The cabinet was actually well made, so here's a great job for Miss Gemma. I realize that your sink water heater is temporary, but what an ingenious idea. As a safety precaution, I would recommend for the water heater that you have a metal box to sit down over top of the coil. Just thinking out loud; a box design that allows it to be placed directly over the coil would probably do the trick right nicely. You can add a couple heavy duty eyelets or a old fashioned wire and coil handle, sort of like you would see on an old style tea kettle to it for removal and installation. Also, don't forget to add an exhaust vent in the top so you won't smoother the flame and add drafting. The benefits, you get better heat transfer and you add a layer of safety when dealing with having an open flame and hot pipes. Knowing that you will all will congregate to clean up, you never know when someone would toss the towel on the flame by accident!! Great Job guys, one of you better videos. Can't wait to see the sink on the boat.
I love a girl like me that can do "stuff". Married an engineer and it was "if you can't beat them..." Good to see it's a family venture too. We had an aboveground pool at our last house and hubby took 2 Patio Door units, filled them with copper pipes, resealed them mounted them on a black painted board on top of the workshop roof relayed the water filter pump piping through the copper. Hey presto, heated pool.
Seeing you both in your workshop displaying a raft of high level skills tells us why you have the confidence and competence to take on such a project. Great video!
Having a partner who can really help like Gemma means that this ship will happen. I liked the fact also that she didn't automatically poo poo the idea for the water heater because it was her baby . That shows excellent team work.
Bless you, you are doing it PROPER. God bless the craftsman who uses the REAL proper fasteners. SIR you are first cabin, top drawer. Five stars out of five stars. WE and the fine vessel thank you, oh you will never be sorry, down the road. Love your videos. Aloha from Corpus Christi, Texas
Once again I am amazed and in love with the true partnership of the two of you!! There is not a woman in my family the would even use a power tool let alone build a cabinet like Gemma did....WELL DONE!!
Awesome job! I think you should put an overheat alarm at the end of the copper tube , in case you forget to turn off the gas! If the flame is left on the water inside the copper tube will boil , expand and finally it will turn to steam , and this is baaaaad. Many kisses!! George Greece!
This was another great episode. Gemma, you are the first cabinet maker I’ve seen who wears nail polish. The manner in which you put the cabinet together showed me you knew exactly what you were doing with no hesitation. Simon hearing you talk about no hot water visualized copper wrap around the burner, stated his vision and then worked out how to make it happen with your assistance. You both have the skills to make Ship Happens/FLOATS - What a great channel.
Really showing now just how competent you two really are. Special thank you Gem for your message to me the other night saying you two have got me, means a lot, soon as I get my phone I will get on face book for you. You guys are one of my lifelines, love to all, great work. ❤️Xx
Gemma just grabbed some wood and slapped together that little kitchen cabinet like nothing.. I knew when it comes time to fit out this boat it will look awesome... The coil copper around the stovetop???? That may be a little sketchy... Maybe look into a solar water heater for now and build a "solar box" on the top of your boat. You should get all the water you need for now, Looking great guys. 👍
Emilia is adorable. She has a particularly wonderful speaking voice! She sounds rather Welsh actually. I presume she goes to school in Wales. In any case, I feel very fortunate, just to be able to follow along! x
What I like about this channel, is Simon and Gemma, and now Emilia's (melt it) slightly mad take on things! It's like humans were before we all got so fearful and decided to let everything be 'regulated' and 'prescribed' and 'monitored' and so damn boring! I love the randomness! But only because I know that, behind it all, are two quite careful and serious people.
Nail on the head there Nick! I am the biggest worrier on safety, never let the kids or Simon stand near a big drop, worry about everything! But we are not stupid people!
Great work Gemma, especially when you are having to deal with two kids instead of just Emilia (thats if Mason isn't there). If you place an old pan upside down over the coil, with a vent hole in the bottom of the pan and supported clear of the worktop. The heat will be reflected back at the coil improving efficiency and increasing the water temperature.
Nice work, I think I'll use your sink design, in my van, if thats ok? I'm looking forward to watching you sail away, sail away sail away [thanks rod stewart]. I noticed Gem doing all the work this episode and Simon walking by an saying cheeky things. Like me 😂 You an yours stay safe, vertical an well.
Enjoy the creative aspects of using the gas burner for making hot water. Thought that a fast recovery hot water tank would have been in the offing, but modern appliances aren't really my thing.
Impressive skills with the cabinet, the rest shows why you should not leave men alone with flammable materials, hopefully Gemma does the gas checks! Useful information, I am now running out to check the gas pipes on my camper van, I may need my wife to accompany or there may be a flaming Bongo.
Great job. This is similar to A water heater that works by not plumbing the coil to the tap but just to a recirculating pump. Low volume low pressure that runs the water over the burner and heats the whole tank of water. You can even add a electric thermostat and have set temp (not that’s it’s needed). This system gives you hot water that is at a consistent temperature.
Nice work on the kitchen sink! That'll help! You guys do fabulous work! Really enjoying your videos. I'm a fairly new subscriber & looking forward to the next one! From South East Minnesota...
Great work Gemma !! Just a quick thought.... How about a fish tank heater Few hours and nice and hot AND NO BURNT FINGERS!! Could even put a 7 day timer on it so set it day before you arrive .. BINGO!! Just my 2 bobs worth of thought
What you did to have hot water, do the same with your wood stove during cold periods such as winter. The hot water which will come out of the pipes you can bring it into your hot water heating system of your boat. The heat of the water will be diffused in the cabins and will improve the quality of life.Thank you for the vidéo
So when you are finished with unit you can put it in the work shop, the copper tubing idea you have is the same as used in most hotdog carts, look on TH-cam to see. We have one that is just a loop of copper to and from small plastic water tank run over burner, tube circulates and heats water!
I don't think I saw anyone else mention ... I might be a good idea to put a cage around the coil as a guard so as to both avoid touching it when hot and the possibility of dislodging it if accidentally knocked. Carry on!
Hi this type of heater is something Ive dabbled with in the past. I think you need more coils or to run the water much more slowly in order to give it more time to heat up
Brilliant design for the kitchen, as an idea you need to watch what the moonshiners do, same process except on a larger scale for heating the liquids to create moonshine, you could easily adapt the hob to hold a similar solution for heating water on demand. Great little video though.
Orange Pipe gas line? Interesting material, and one I've never run across. Here in the US, convoluted stainless steel, covered in a yellow plastic coating is getting very popular for natural gas installation, as opposed to black iron pipe which is traditional. Being stainless, I cannot think of why it would have an expiration date. So, it pretty obviously is a different product, which has piqued my curiosity about the orange material! Always willing to learn something new~
If you drain the grey water out the boat you can use both jugs for freshwater. And if you add a cut down coffee tin over the heating coil you may get hotter water.
Gday from oz just thinking that you can make a brew or hot snack whilst underway at sea right in the cockpit and its not like its so big nice and compact well done both of yas all the best big pete..
You will need a bigger water bottle. We can go through that amount of water in a few hours when out camping with our two kids. Awesome idea on the boiler though.
Nice job in building the sink/cooker unit. DId you concider placing a presure temperture regulator on the hot water side to prevent hot water burns and water pressure rises in that waterline? + 10 overall
Cut a hole in the shelf large enough for the gas bottle base but smaller than the entire bottle diameter to keep the bottle from shifting if the boat rocks
I'm 46, never had a relationship as never met a woman but I would love someone like Gemma, hard working, funny and bubbly. Maybe I need to.move further north of the UK
Your gas bottle likes the cold it’s basically the same as a refrigerant it stays in a cold place as a liquid as it expands to a vapour it actually cools it’s self and makes the gas pressure vary slightly until the bottle is at a constant temp say in summer it will not be a great temp next time dump your gas bottle in a bucket of very hot water will give you a constant temp always shut the bottle off at night so you don’t get a leak best to do it every time you have finished using the bottle you can look up temp pressure relationship for your gas 😉 am a fridge man so know a lot about it technically 😉
I would just like to let you all know that we are not the sort of people that require warning labels for everything. We know that if you leave the fire on and tap closed it can create pressure. We would never do that! So thanks for the input!

The gauge board for drilling the shelf was a really good idea “ I’m gonna steal that” !!!

Gemma's craftsmanship on the cabinet is amazing. Well done! Simon's pyromania is a bit concerning however :)
🤣🤣🤣

Your wife is awesome. She really has good mechanical skills that cabinet is beautiful.

Love how he laughs at her and she laughs at him. True love?
Gemma Made A Great Job Of The Sink Unit With hot Water That Was One Great Idea Great To See It Working
Not only are you guys hilarious but educational as well. Excellent video. Well done.
Superb work Gemma! What a superb idea!
Another brilliant invention! Well done, guys!
I have to say that was an brilliant video, excellent hot water project 😍. Well done. More like this would be great. I watch 3 times lol.

You guys are working good together can't wait to see the woodwork cheers
Great build Gemma, your making skills shon through. The added copper pipe heater is pretty cool! Cheers

That is ingenious for a hot water system, well done

Gemma dives right into what needs to be done. Cool.
You are so sweet, Gemma! And I love Simon's laugh ....reminds me of a friend's laugh!
Brill video, well done on a great project, thoroughly enjoyed it 👍
Well done Gemma, proud of you, DIY women rule..👍🤩
I always make my own because I'm the only one who knows exactly what I want lol 🤣
Wowie! Handywoman! Yea Gemma! 🙌🏽
There you go. Simon knows how to heat hot water in a manly way. " I HAVE DISCOVERED FIRE"! Awesome, I love it.
Emilia is adorable. She has a particularly wonderful speaking voice! She sounds rather Welsh actually. I presume she goes to school in Wales. In any case, I feel very fortunate, just to be able to follow along! x
That cabinet is fantastic! and keep up the comedy there sir its funny! but it is looking Excellent Yall!

Great skills Gemma - love it 👍😎
Pretty clever idea 👍
Cracking idea that coil of microbore deffo gunna have to fab up something similar on my boat

Wonderfull how y'all involve your children. Life lessons.

Great experiment.. good work..

Gemma, are you naturally ambidextrous? No matter because you are truly talented.
I can use tools in both hands, but can only write with my left hand!
Right or left handed makes no difference, you and Simon are amazing!
Now I see why you decided to rebuild a wood boat! Nice work

Gemma made a kitchen sink.. I would think on a boat you would want a kitchen to float? (wink) Great job!
Love it. Great job
Jigery pokery , got it ! I specialize in that too, LOL, Great content , please keep being yourself . over.
Cut a hole in the shelf large enough for the gas bottle base but smaller than the entire bottle diameter to keep the bottle from shifting if the boat rocks
Simon: "I'm the firestarter...twisted firestarter" ........lol
excellent .
If you take a piece of rubber hose pipe and line the holes in the sink it won't hurt your hands as much when you carrie it.
