Can I shoot 1000 rated with discs from 1982?

- The DGA Kitty Hawk SoftTouch Sureshot was approved for production by the PDGA in 1982. Almost 40 years later I found some for sale at the Lucky Disc Golf store in Las Vegas! The course at Peaksview Park was put in the ground in 1998, so I went there to see if I could shoot a 1000-rated round.

Yep. I came here to post the same thing. He is so serious when playing on tour, it was fun to see a “behind the curtains” round so to speak. So glad Reddit led me here this morning.
I feel like Cale Leiviska would be a great choice for the next pro to play a round with them. 1) he designs discs and courses so he would probably have some cool insights into how and why courses were set up based on disc technology back then. 2) I think he was born in 82/83 so it would neat for him to play with discs made the year he was born.

I'll add my vote for old school Scott Stokley. This was a great video- felt like stepping back in time. And Paul can obviously do about anything with any disc in any place. What a master.

I gotta chime in and say how much more approachable you came off in this video. You genuinely seemed like you were having fun and let go of any of your typical "competitive" that is present in pretty much all of your other video appearances. Definitely the most comfortable you've ever been in front of the camera...I think I enjoyed seeing that the most. Oh and I'd love to see Big Jerm with these, or another forehand dominant player.

I’ve noticed in the videos with just him and Hannah we are getting to see Paul more on a personal level. He is just having fun and doing what he does best. I wish I could shoot that good with new discs.

This was definitely one of the better videos by Paul I've watched. Seeing arguably the best player of all time get excited about a relatively low complexity course was very entertaining. Also, shooting and editing by Hannah was nek level 👌

Paul was in such a good mood in this video, it was so nice to see. I agree with many others that I'd like to see Simon get these discs on an old short course where he can ace run everything.
This video was great. We are so lucky to see an absolute pro GOAT in such an up close and personal setting. You couldn't say the same for any other top tier athletes in any other sport.
This was fun, funny, and full of energy. Keep up the good content if that is what makes you happy... it definitely makes us all smile to watch a video like this.
Definitely Simon Lizotte should get them next. It might also be interesting to see an old-school player like Scott Stokely get a hold of them at some point too.
Also, it's pretty much confirmed that Paul could probably beat 99% of the people here with a bag full of pie pans and paint can lids...
Like to see what a player like Scot Stokely who used discs like this to use them again on an old school course made for pre beveled edge discs how a player back in the 1980's would have thrown such a disc.
In fact you could get some lighter Discraft Rattlers under 160 grams and they would be nearly the same thing for these players using 150 to155 gram Discraft Rattlers for Scot Stokely. In Simon's case he did do a round at the farm they do the MVP Open at, on the shortest tees in winter using the dog disc that Latitude 64 makes as his main sponsor Discmania uses Latitude 64 production facility for some of the discs so it was as close as he got to a catch disc or disc golf sized catch disc from Discmania at the time and almost got a hole in one. I think Discmania now has a catch disc/dog disc using same exact mold as the Latitude 64 company and also a lid from Yikun discs.

Never really been a Paul fan. He has had attitude w other players. Time has mellowed him and allowed him to be more comfortable all around. Great energy on this vid. Keep up the good work and growth✌️♥️🥏

I am really enjoying Paul's newfound comfort on camera. He's done some really great work in this video and the Mexico stuff, along with other recent videos. This is becoming the best channel online, along with the best player on tour.
I remember looking at the new Kitty Hawk discs in 1982 and thinking how they were a step up from the Whamo Night Flyers I was playing with at the time. Feeling ancient now, but damn, I do love seeing a disc thrown well. Nice video, Paul and Hannah. Cheers, D.
As a 60-year-old, I remember when golf-specific discs were first introduced. The first ones I saw were basically the original World Class Frisbee 40-series with moonlighter plastic. I've always wondered how modern discs would compare with those models. Thanks for the video.
BTW I'm pretty sure Disc Golf is at least a little older than 1976. We were playing in 1976 at my high school in Scarsdale NY, with an object course around the school, and we didn't invent it.

These videos have gotten so good, love this "Just Paul and Hannah" format, and the editing and sound were both great (which can be really hard on a video like this). Only thing we were missing is the little Pablo picture you use when scoring against others
Love this video! My first disc was a 1983 Kitty Hawk "Softouch" Sure Shot which I bought in 1984 in Bowling Green, Ky.
First off, the 80s cut music was amazing, I laughed so loud when it hit lol. Secondly, send those discs to James Conrad, I bet he would have a blast playing a round with them. Great video guys, cant wait to see my disc in the video with Dylan!

Literally seconds before Paul said how much fun he was having, I was like, "Man this guy is having fun." Lol, man was pumped! I love Paul and this video has been my favorite.

I’d love to see what Eagle McMahon could do with these. His power plus his style of putt I feel would be hard for him to adjust to the discs… would be fun to watch!!

If you're around Illinois the course by house was made in 1980, all the holes over 200ft were par 4s and holes over 300 were par 5s.
Also all the baskets back then had single chains.

Love the official 80’s theme music after hole 17. I still have a few of those discs. And we played disc golf at a course in 1970 in Michigan.
Either Simon or James Conrad would both be awesome to watch. It would be interesting to see double G throw them as well.
My uncles started playing around 1977 or 1978...Pasadena California...then they found out about LaMirada that had baskets...I still own those disc's your chuckin...I'm a hoarder when it comes to disc's...I still have the first Frisbees from the 70s before we got disc's...thanks for the memories...good luck next season.

Started in 1981, my first disc was a frisbee (41 mold I think). The Kitty Hawk was definitely an upgrade. The Aero was a huge upgrade in distance. Of course we had to roll, how else would you get distance? My first ace was in 1984.

about a year after i first started playing a friend got 2 of these brand new. he only used them for driving and could throw them the length of a football field. these were the longest throws i ever saw up to that point. the next spring i watched Slate Paul and Steve Wisecup throw from the end zone through the opposite goal posts with Midnight Flyers and Super Puppies. there is a lot of technique involved in getting them to go far enough and still be close enough to putt. GREAT round!

Great video. I love watching anytime Paul is shredding the course at the park I grew up next to as a kid. Unfortunately we moved away from Peaks View Park in 1997 so I never got to experience the championship disc golf course when it was installed in 1998 but all the surroundings are so familiar to me. I hope to go back and play it one day.
Simon or maybe Conrad would have almost a bit too much fun with these. This could become an amazing series where you send these to other pro player and then they send them again to someone else! Loving the content man.
This is my favorite video about disc golf. Great vibes, awesome editing, interesting content, and putters are my favorite discs to play entire rounds with. With the discs, I’d like to see them go to a new pro or a seasoned pro who doesnt always finish top 10. If they go top pro to top pro, then the fun of “who’s next?” will die too quickly to make this a long standing epic. My vote is on Kyle Klein or MJ.

Coming back after a bit to re watch and it still blows my mind to see number 1 disc golfer in the world on my (former) local course. I keep thinking, "I was just there". . . oh well.

I know a BUNCH of people will say Simon... But it's more fitting for someone like Will, Jeff Spring or Conrad an older player who will vibe the story and style like you did. BTW sometimes I don't feel alot of emotion from your videos & this was a 100% turn around and you were upbeat, enjoying your time and made for a great video!! A+ work on this one... Edora in Ft. Collins Colorado would be a perfect course for these disc's

Thank you Paul for making all the videos you are making for the growth of the game we all love to play. If you are ever in Connecticut, I would love for you to stop by and play my ace run disc golf course, which has 9 permanent baskets(each top basket supplier is in ground) which give you 40 different tees to play from. It will be an experience you will never forget. My course has grown more and more since its 1996 establishment. It was great to see you and Dylan Cease together doing that disc unboxing and hopefully, like Simon did, take him out on the course with you for some round play. I'd like to see a player that has more of the classic throws and experience see if they can draw up some good rounds. Feldburg or Shultz maybe? Someone that rarely does these vlogs would be interesting if they're willing.
