I bought the D8 about a year ago. While it apparently has the technical ability to do many things, the interface is very frustrating. Functions do not work from one "page" yet work from another. In fact, things that I cannot do when I hook it up to my GMC Sierra pickup, for example, I CAN access if I input that the truck is another GM product, like a Tahoe, from different year. I routinely find myself having to "trick" the tool into doing something that should be readily accessible. Time is money as this video says. My recommendation is that you DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Additionally, if you do not use it for 30 days, it requires you to access the internet for updates before you can access the functions. I discovered this for the first time when I was out in a remote location without internet access. The tool then became an expensive paperweight. It has been such a negative experience that I will not buy another XTool product.
I've had the D8BT for a few weeks now so I'm still learning the tool. I agree that it could flow better. I contacted them about a small issue I had and they were very responsive. Have you tried reaching out to them regarding this, would be interesting to see how they respond?
Sadly yes, they have good response if they issue is straightforward but in my case I have 2 tickets unanswered since November. This support issue seems to be across the board with all diag tool companies, not just XTOOL.
I couldn’t do injections balance test from special function page ! But went through other pages to tue ECU and here you go it worked from there. It’s frustrating and confusing. This needs to be fixed as a mechanic digging around takes alot of my time as every vehicle built different and has different menu options
One of my big issues with the D8 is the OBD2 connector interface. My vehicle OBD2 connector points mostly downward. I wish I could post a photo. To connect the D8 you have to use an included adapter. By the time you have the cable end connector and the adapter all connected, the connection is about 6 inches long and heavy and only a couple inches from the floor. . ONE - It tends to fall out of the OBD2 socket due to it's bulk. TWO - It is so long and bulky that driving with the unit connected to the vehicle is very difficult if not dangerous since it interferes with your feet. If you happen to so much as touch the cable it is all but guaranteed to fall out of the OBD2 socket. Hit a bump and it falls out. Bad design. THAT SAID - FOR THE MONEY - I will work with it. It provides 75% of the Dealer factory scan tool at an affordable price.
I'm also evaluating the D8, it doesn't support basic I/M smog monitors for my 2004 Land Rover Range Rover HSE 4.4l w/ BMW 62M TUB 44 engine, very disappointing for a $700 scanner? I have vehicles from 2022 to 1994 so I had hoped it would support the newest really well and the older vehicles may be somewhat less?
My internet on my ip616 is disabled tried connecting at home and my phone hotspot doesn't work, saw a video that said do a factory reset and now the app it isn't working.... emailed tech support they don't respond gonna end up returning it to Amazon I was looking forward to programming keys
I have the D8 and bought it for an Audi and BMW. I have simple problems with each and all are not supported. I have talked to the company and get “it is not supported”. Would be nice if they updated cars. The bulk of the diagnoses will be for 10 year old and older cars, just too many gaps in this tool. Mostly now I just use my simple handheld unit and the D8 sits in its case.
Does the D8 support I/M readiness monitors for any car? I can't find it anywhere for a 2015 2.4 Kia Sorento. Trying to get an informed answer from their tech support is very frustrating.
Unfortunately, it does not support adjusting the radar of most cars, even though programming icons are present. I tried it on a Chrysler and unfortunately a message appeared to me that the feature is not supported. I also tried programming the TCM and it did not work.
My d8s cannot do real time misfire on my Rogue. The charts go off the graph when using x3 x2. I have to keep entering my region, country ,vehicle type? (Even after my vehicle setup. Recorder terrible sensitivity. Mine is charged USBC but graphics show USB and separate power. Not ready for prime time
Not sure if you fixed your problem but a viewer had a problem w/ a D7 getting stuck while reading a module. The fixed was to update the software for the tool itself, not the vehicle software.
I have a D8BT, but in most cars, I couldn't read the odometer from the modules. I don't want to change the odometer; I only want to compare it with different models like Autel. Does anyone know how to do this?
The 1800 cc toyota (1zzfe) There is no Oxygen sensor or MAF sensor voltages. These two PIDS are critical for diagnosis. I ended up using the cheapest AUTEL tool.
Your starting argument is flawed. You initially clicked on "Maintenance Reset" at :.20 in the vid, but at :.40 in the vid, you actually clicked on "Oil Reset". I do understand your point though and I've also found the special functions on the main page show more ability/capability than the special functions which are supposed to be vehicle specific, since it's done after auto-scan. Not nitpicking. It just weakens your entire argument when you click on 2 separate functions then complain that only 1 works. Can't believe I'm the first to point this out. I completely agree with you regarding their choice of language for some of the functions. It'd be great if there were universal titles/labels for functions across all diag equipment, since most seem to have at least some differences, but Xtool does veer even further in that regard.
Hey Troy, I appreciate the comment - and I went back to validate what you mentioned on different vehicle - Cayenne 957 generation. Here’s the part you’re missing (and I’m missing because the tool doesn’t work properly) when you click “maintenance reset” it will bring you to a sub-page with the main, middle intermediate, and oil reset. So in other words, both options should bring you to an oil reset function. On the 958 generation in my video, it does not. They are NOT two different functions, rather the “Maintenace reset” is in theory supposed to bring you to a sub-page which should display the same functions as when you do it outside of the “auto-scan” which it does not.
That's a subjective question - my personal opinion is that all tools at this price point are give or take the same, with small differences between them. For example, the Launch X431 is as capable, maybe slightly more than the XTOOL D8/D9 but it has additional ECU coding options for Porsche. So perhaps you have something specific you are looking for? You'll need to email each manufacturer and understand the differences between them. But really, at this price point they're all the same . . . Also, Autel makes a good product but at this price point it is less capable.
Come on man! I am a pro and I can't believe you are being so picky. A $10k Snap On scanner is even more frustrating because it won't do many of the special functions the D8 or Launch X431 V will do and they are under $800. Xtool, Launch, Thinkcar and Autel all work better than way more expensive scan tools. Autel and Launch actually make some of the Matco and Snap On tools but those companies control the software used.

The new version of the D8 is much better but just like the older d8, it's still a somewhat budget scanner. The D9S pro has none of these issues but you pay more.
Just report the bugs .. they are good about fixing the issues.. and make sure you are downloading the "updates"- because there are usually 2 or 3 updates per day. Most of the time they will fix your issue within a week; at least that's what I've seen several times over on multiple videos.
They are good at fixing function and combability fast. Many people have talked about the broken menu since it got realised so im sure they know about it, i think why they did not fix it yet is since its a more complicated and not an easy fix. :)
Well, where to begin. Completely disappointed with this scanner. After watching several videos on this diagnostic scanner, I purchased and received it a few days ago. I decided to try it because my Snap-On Solus Edge scanner has become very expensive just to update it and since xTool claimed to be able to diagnose just about every vehicle out there, I figured it would be cheaper to buy the D8 than to update the Solus again. Well, you get what you pay for unfortunately. Right off the bat, it did not support vehicles newer than 2022 even after all the updates were completed. I tried to use it on a 2023 Jeep but did not work, need the 12+8 adapter cable to communicate with the vehicles system due to the security gateway module that many car manufacturers are going to. I knew that this would be an issue before I purchased it but because no mention was made on their website or the many videos and information I look up, I figured it may be worth a try. I tried it on four other OBD2 vehicles ranging from the mid 1990's to 2010 and in addition to being slow as malasses to connect, it could not identify the vehicles with the auto scan feature. Has to manually enter the information and then when I tried to access some of the modules that the vehicles are equipped with, such as the body control module or instrument cluster module, it said there was an error or feature no available. If going through this much frustration after just a few days, I returned it through Amazon right away. For a weekend warrior mechanic or shadetree repair individual it may be ok but for me, not worth the hassle and the old saying rings true, 'you get what you pay for'.

You're correct - many users have reported XTOOL not being best tool to use on older vehicles. You may have better luck with the Launch X431 series.
For older stuff.. the snap on is going to be your best option.
