Your video has proven to me that there is literally a review of anything on TH-cam. I remember when it didn't have it all. Thanks for the great review.
I bought this washer 19 months ago and it’s been serviced twice, once for wire harness, & just a week ago, the motor, & capacitor…So now it would cost more to fix it, then what it costs…I ordered a Speed Queen TC5 a week ago, & it should be getting delivered in the next two weeks. We’re going to keep the Whirlpool dryer that we matched with this Whirlpool washer. Great informative video.
I bought the warranty to support the local manufacturer.... 5 years is long enough. the old whirlpool we had laster over 20 years, rip 1992 to 2024 lol
I was undecided about returning this washer. I hear you, Maytag Man, and I hear you, owners of this machine. My washer lid will not lock, thus the machine does not work. I've had this machine for 4 days and I haven't been able to use it. I'm waiting for the service guy. When I researched for a fix, I learned a few more problems with this machine. The lid lock is a common problem, it either won't unlock, or it won't lock at all. Another common problem, is the the control panel fails. None of the reset or lock control suggestions worked. I'm very capable of following directions, so I know that the problem is not the fault of this consumer. I can see the many threads getting caught up in that impeller when I wash the cleaning rags. I suspect water will constantly be sitting in that impeller, thus stinking and molding. I leave the lid open on my washer when it's not in use, to dry it out, as recommended by the experts. Thanks for the video, and the owner experiences. This machine is going back!
I like 👍 the old school 🏫 Whirlpool and Kenmore washing machines from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. The have a FULL SIZE agitator, and a LARGE CAPACITY tub 🛀. Even the motor is three quarters of one ☝️ horsepower. These Whirlpool’s and Kenmore’s have a VERY GENTLE wash 🧽 cycle 🔁. These old school 🏫 washing machines were BUILT TO LAST!! They last 🆙 to 30 years in the average household, and they were built to be serviced!! They were really HEAVY DUTY!! Any new washer and dryer set of today, you’re lucky 🍀 to see 5 years, or, “as long as federation.” Your friend, Jeff.
Had this Whirlpool washer model for 3 years and so far it's worked great for a family of 4 with heavy duty use. That goes for both with and without the agitator. One problem is the lid lock which is garbage. Mine broke twice - first time under warranty and second I fixed myself by ordering a new part. Companion dryer runs fine. Recommendation about extended warranty is very good advice!
Have had this unit for about 4 years. It has started periodicly started "grinding" during the heavy agitating. Ive taken the wash plate off, and it looks okay. I may have to replace the gear box. But so far its been a really good unit for a family of 2.
I have a brand new whirlpool with removable agitator. I just watched my cloths get washed and I saw the same cloths sitting on top not moving towards the agitator
I know, I just got mine 3 days ago and noticed that it add no roll over action and the close do not get submerged. The fact that the agitator start moving with only 2 inches of water at the bottom can wear down the fiber of your clothing prematurely. It's garbage, I bought it at Costco and it going back, I'm probably going to get the commercial grade Maytag. Nice roll over action, kinda ratcheting stepper agitator with water momentum timming. Why to they make efforts to make things the wrong way, nowadays?? To sell you a washing machine every 5 years!!
I have had my Whirlpool removeable agitator washer for 3 months and it is the best, most versatile and quietest washer I have ever owned in 50 years. The water level never comes even close to the top of the agitator. It has the most effective spin cycle I have ever seen, to the point where some light fabrics actually come out almost dry. This saves a ton of time and money on dryer use. It has a manual faucet that allows you to pause a cycle to pre hand - wash items in the washer, or add extra water (cold only) to a cycle. I washed a full size wown comforter in this machine with excellent results, and even the quick wash will clean most normal laundry loads adequately.
Ben, I totally don't need this much appliance information in my life, but your videos are awesome (quality, info, subtle humor, geeky references) so you have me coming back time and time again. LLAP
I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this washer. We found it in the "scratch/dent/used" area at Lowe's for $250. It had been returned due to a failure, which Lowe's had serviced and the motherboard was supposedly replaced.
Last Friday I went to this with the 2 peice agitator customer Complaint was tearing clothes when I got there I found that a bed sheet had been somehow pulled under the wash plate and twisted up and torn ,after I removed it and tested it with some towels it seemed to work fine, customer stated that thin materials get torn with top peice removed
Another problem with the top unit of the agitator is that it doesn't ratchet around like the older direct drive agitator you showed us early in the video. It simply rotates with the bottom unit, causing the clothes to go up and down depending on the direction the agitator is currently moving in. This could be purposeful, because of the new supposed "blooming action" the newer washplate washing machines are expected to have. Also on the older agitator, it has much bigger more aggressive fins on the bottom definitely meant for rollover instead of blooming. So with all that, I don't think the newer whirlpool agitators are gonna be a good design anytime, the older rollover design everyone loves and knows is going to be the winner.
I had an extended warranty at Lowes on my Whirlpool refrigerator. Even though they say "repair or replace". They will NOT replace the unit. If it is too expensive to repair, they will refund your purchase price minus the cost of the warranty. This happened to me a little over a year ago and the replacement unit I bought ended up costing me $300 more than the old unit and I had to buy the ice maker separate where it was free with the old one. Don't trust any of these warranties to actually replace the unit
Most third party warranties are fulfilled by independent contractors. They are highly constrained by the warranty companies to do repairs within various guidelines. It is obvious when someone has abused a machine, and this information will be transmitted to the warranty company. When it comes to replacement of a machine, you are right, it is a monetary payoff and not a machine for machine swap. It is all spelled out in the contract, which very few people read before buying the coverage. This same sort of issue also applies to almost any extended warranty on small items that you buy from Amazon or Best Buy. They aren't going to even try to fix your dash cam, they will just send you some money and close the case.
@@mrtodd3620 I question if I'd even want a "machine for machine swap" anyway. If I have a machine that's 4 years and 11 months old and its got a wash plate issue (like Ben thinks this Whirlpool model likely would have), I don't really want another 4 year old same washer model that might have the same issue.
My Maytag commercial residential washer is not working properly during the spin cycle. A service repairman locked the level legs in place,as the legs were not locked in place when installed; which may have caused damage to parts of the washer. I have had three service calls for the washer in a short time, which is not normal. A relative talked about Whirlpool washing machines being good. I appreciate your helpful video about what features and brands are best with the repairs. I did not know Maytag sold their company to Whirlpool in 2006. I now know to avoid Maytag for other brands Whirlpool or Amana.
I always buy the lower to mid grade washer with a 5 year warranty after 3-4 service calls they refund the washer purchase price so the 3-4 years of use cost me the warranty price
I have that exact machine with the wash plate and it sucks, if i have actual soiled clothes i use the Frigidaire front loader that was left with the house when i bought it and it's an old machine and cleans beautifully
Thank you so very much for this review. I was seriously considering this product, but I had some reservations about it. I bought a used Whirlpool washing machine in 2009 from a local appliance store that’s no longer in business. I bought this Whirlpool for $250. That included tax and delivery and set up. I’ve never had a single problem with it until a couple of days ago. I definitely got my $250 worth, so I wanted to look at Whirlpool first as a replacement. I like this concept of the best of both worlds, but you raised legitimate issues that I would not have even thought about. I appreciate you so very much. The one thing you didn’t mention was the noise level. Between reviews on several box store websites and including some of the comments here, apparently this is a really noisy machine. My previous Whirlpool was also noisy, but if I’m going to buy a new one I would like to have a quieter machine. So a comment on the noise level good or bad would have been appreciated. But other than that, this review has helped me so very much make a decision, and I’ve decided to look at LG. Thank you again!
I sell these units. This is good information for me to give to customers! We watched a video at work that showed the unit being hoised by hooking to the agitator (no movie tricks). That was impressive. It gets a good lock when the agitator is engaged. My coworker and I had the same reservations about gunk getting caught in the spring mechanism. I wonder if a pipe cleaner inserted into the holes would clean it....
Not so impressive.. I replaced a GE impeller top load recently due to a leaking tub seal that could not be repaired because the tub liner could simply not be removed from the hub due to steel and aluminum corroding together.. I had that stupid thing hung up off the ground from the floor joists and was torching it and beating with a sledgehammer and all I succeeded in doing was wrecking the shaft.. Who the hell uses steel and aluminum together in a wet environment and doesn't expect them to corrode together permanently?
I have that washer. I've noticed that this style of agitator doesn't pull clothes down. Thus the top of the clothes kinda just moves around, but doesn't seem to wash as well as it should. The dryer sucks though. The moisture cycles don't do anything. Any cycle less than 90 minutes results in damp clothes.
On the dryer. I can guarantee you that if you're running it for 90 minutes and it's not getting the clothes dry, you have a major problem. It may not the be dryer.I was able to clean the eighteen pounds of clothes on medium in about sixty minutes. Make sure the filter is clean and water can run through it and make sure. The vent is a straight run to the outdoors with no major bends or massive lint build up
I enjoyed the video. I came across one of these at my local homedepot store and said oh very cool. I think this unit allows people to see agitaror vs no agitator etc. in my opinion i find it good enough as log as i get the extended warranty. Keep the vids Coning i love appliance videos.😎
Is this set worth it with the washer having a warranty of 5 years? Seems like many have negative opinions of it but many people do because washers aren’t as good as they used to be
just had a Maytag washer die. Thank god for the 5 yr warantee . The plastic base of the drum was filled with water which I think put it out of balance and ate the transmission. We bought one of these as a replacement. AND a new warantee.
Had this for 9 months, have had two service calls. Plus having to wait for parts has put us out a washer for 3 weeks going. Now have to wait another week for other part to get in. Warranty service has been great, though, but I'm worried that I will be stuck with junk after the year is up. 4 parts are needing replaced.
The shortness of the agitator makes sense when you consider the size of the HE drum. Because the drum is wider, the correct amount of clothing will not be as high, and therefore does not need the same height agitator as a non HE washer. One drawback I see is that the agitator rotates clockwise and then counter-clockwise. An old school agitator always rotates one direction so the side blades are always driving the close in one direction..."down". As for the amount of clothes recommended, I don't agree with judging by weight. I tell my customers, no more than half full loosely placed inside when washing heavy items, and you can get away with a bit more when washing children's clothes, hand towels, lingerie, etc. I've never seen a problem with a plastic bottom. I just worked on one that was 12 years old last week. It finally failed because water had gotten below the tub and rusted out the shaft that the tub needs to float off of to engage/disengage spin or agitate.
I appreciate the information provided. My wife and I purchased the 4.6 Whirlpool equivalent yesterday. We are replacing an eight year old Maytag that has the glass door but a plastic bottom. I will likley take your advice as there is an optional five year extended warranty. She would like the glass door but won't use the agitator. To get the glass door we have to purchase the 2 in 1 at approx $100.00 more. My concern are the holes in the wash plate when the agitator is removed. We are seniors and the two of us use it. I appreciate your guidance looks like we will go with the plainer unit with traditional metal door.
I almost bought this washer today being completely uneducated in washers. My indecisiveness at the store and insomniac tendencies brought me here and now I’m oddly invested in your reviews. In the store I thought it seemed like such a brilliant idea, but you raised so many pain points I had never thought of and would end up being a NIGHTMARE for me. Oddly specific question, but what washer and dryer might you recommend for someone who owns a tree service and comes home with saw dust ALL over and in everything he wears? We’ve got sawdust everywhere and I don’t want it to ruin the machines. Thanks!
Hi Ben...What model would you recommend for a top loader that doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. I find the more choices the more likely something will break down. Hoping to hear from you soon as I am needing a new washing machine and dryer. Thanks
I'm a Will Riker, Star Trek geek, so I loved that reference. But about this machine. After my moms old Kenmore (which nobody really knows how old it was) broke down recently, my mom fell in love with this Whirlpool model! I was VERY skeptical. As it turns out, she would have been OK, because despite my disgust for extended warranties, she always buys them. I also liked your displayed "dislike" for extended warranties! I WAS disappointed that you did NOT tell Mr. Worf to "fire" on this unit!!! We ended up with the LG-WM4000 front loader.
We have the same Whirlpool and it doesn’t work. It doesn’t turn the clothes at all and not enough water to even wet the clothes. My wife has to wash everything with the deep water feature on heavy duty. Clothes still smell and doesn’t remove stains. Had an old one for 25 years and it worked great.
It's typically a user issue. Clothes are to be loosely placed in the washer; not pushed down to fit as many as possible. That's why the clothes won't move and smell. The clothes need room to move!
I have this washer- it’s not my dream washer (screen queen) but it’s way better that then the last one I had. It was a $200 Maytag back in 2020. I hated that washer! This one at least gets my clothes clean and I finally have a soak option along with extra rinse! The agitator stays in except when I’m washing my King size comforters and Duvet cover. Only thing I don’t like about this washer is that it’s not a 1980’s top loader. One day I’ll save up for a Screen Queen and finally live out my laundry fantasy haha!
I don't know if you are aware but Whirlpool has upgraded this washing machine and I suggest that you go and look at the Whirlpool 4.7 or 5.2 cubic ft High Efficiency Top Loader.
@Warp3326 What you don't understand is that Speed Queen is very expensive and $3,000 is a lot of money and a lot of people are are buying the new Whirlpool washer and dryer. A lot of people love the new Whirlpool it's beautiful, big, washers king size comforters, sheets, rugs, and it also takes detergent. Whirlpool also gives complete instructions for using the agitator and the impeller. 👐
Thank you so very much! Very informative and sooo helpful! I was looking at this type of washer and though to my self " WOW, great product". Didn't know washers were made with this option. There is one in stock 6.0 Cu. Ft. so, I am going to have a good, hard look at something else. I need new washer a.s.a.p.
Thanks for your videos. I just replaced an 18-year-old impeller machine with an agitator machine -- in my price range, impellers were very rare, while "everything had agitators." Whatever, so I bought one with an agitator. Now that I understand the difference, "consider a large item," like a smallish comforter, which won't truly fill the bottom of the basket. With an agitator in the middle, there's truly no way to balance that load. "Live and learn," and I"m doing so. But with my old impeller machine, that kind of load would wind up with the comforter "covering the whole basket," above the impeller. So, it sure seems to me that an impeller machine probably must have an easier job of balancing loads. The other thing that REALLY concerns THE WHOLLY CRAP out of me is the "automatic water sensing" concept -- and watching that, it was very clear that the water only came up to perhaps half the height of the clothes in the basket, and thus THE AGITATOR WAS WORKING VERY HARD TO PULL FULLY DRY CLOTHES DOWN INTO THE WATER. After I watched that on one load, I was screaming, "OH, HECK NO!!" Now, my machine DOES have a manual water level control, and I will use that MANUALLY, so long as I can own a machine with a manual water level control. I'm sorry, but I want to see clothes "swishing around in the water," not "getting yanked down forcibly into a very small bit of water." So, "my next machine" will likely be an impeller machine -- I'm not very enthused about agitators anymore. But then again, I'd bet actual money right now that you may not be able to find a machine with both an impeller AND a manual water level control. Your thoughts about these issues would be very welcome in your future videos.
My GF and I just bought one of these washers. I've been quite concerned about how the unit will start "washing" and the tub isn't even full. I tried to get her to get a speed queen, but she was totally against spending that kind of money for some reason.
@@justinfowler2857 As she should be, Speed Queens give *mediocre* at best, wash performance, and they'll cost you thousands of dollars in electricity over the machine's life because of their 1930's spin speed of 600 rpm only gets about half the water out that a proper modern front loader would. Oh. And the front loader will clean better. This is not up for debate. Ask any hotel, resort, hospital or institutional laundry room how a top loader would work. If you're against front loaders, take a moment and ask yourself why. Is it because they're hard to load? Think about reaching down into a top loader, lifting clothes out, bending down to throw them in th dryer (which they'll spend twice as long in cause they're still soaking wet), then standing back up to reach back down into a top loader.... Is it concerns about mold? Leave the door cracked. I don't even wipe the gasket, just leave it at that "half closed" latch position, and no mold at all and inside the machine is totally dry when I go to use it. If you're willing to spend five times what a speed queen costs in electricity over the next 10 or 15 years, maybe we need legislation in this country banning top load washers. 😂
@@MassiveGarbage And you're everything that's wrong with the third world corporatist hellhole we call America. Rather get a product that is needlessly wasteful *AND* actually does a worse job at its intended function simply to feel a fake sense of freedom. 😑
I have this one. I've had it for almost a year and a half. My biggest complaint is that it smells musty. That agitator has nooks and crannies in it and I end up having to soak the agitator in a deep bucket of bleach water. I did not get the extended warranty.
Does keeping the lid open until the washer fully dry between washes help? I had thought about purchasing this washer but now am hesitant to replace my small old working Whirlpool with this model just for blankets, comforters & mattress pads. Oh decisions decisions 😅.
Hello, thanks for the great videos. Just bought my washing machine. It has only a wash cycle, at what point do I stop it to add the fabric softener? Because the machine has only a wash cycle and stays on wash, I do not know when it's rinsing so that I can add the fabric softener. Thanks!
I bought this machine in September 2023 and I could not hate it more. I've tried everything to get enough water in the machine to cover the clothes so that they can move inside the washer. I use the faucet feature to add more water to every load and push the clothes down to get them wet. It doesn't remove the lightest stains, even when using the deep water setting and 30 minute soak feature. I've tried the bulky and the heavy duty features, hoping it would clean the clothes more efficiently. Nope, and this is a Whirlpool product ! My old Crosley washer worked better, even broken...
Literally every single top loader is built like shit now. I just went with maytag basic one with agitator. If it lasts me 5 years, great. I set it on bulky, with max fill for pretty much every load. It fills almost to the top with water. Only thing i dont like is it will not fill with water while lid is open which sucks for putting soap in. Other than that its quiet, and my clothes are clean. The BIG thing with these new generation of top loaders is DO NOT OVER FILL YOUR LOAD. It will kill the things life.
@@blitty6048I let the washer fill up for about 10 minutes then pause the cycle. The lid will unlock and then I put the detergent in. I do the same thing on the rinse cycle to add fabric softener.
What to do when on Deep water setting and towels just sitting in the water? I just bought this machine...didn't over fill, used He detergent and i think I'm gonna return it to the store...hasn't wven been a week 🤔 I'm over it🙅♀️
Here in South Africa, we have a Defy top loader but the pulsator is prone to stripping the gear bush at the bottom. You can't get the bush as a loose item and must purchase the complete pulsator
TBH it looks like a 3D printed part could be made to cover the hole when you remove the agitator. It wouldn't surprise me if someone has already made it and sold it in one of those sites ... you know which ones.
The removable agitator has prongs that retract when you squeeze the top so it can twist out. A 3D printed cap would just be solid. If you make it so it just twists in, it will just twist back out when clothes rub against it. It has to physically lock in somehow. I own one of these 2 in 1 Whirlpools and have a 3D printer, and have thought about making a cap, but there is no easy solution.
When I had to buy a washer I thought it was defective. The agitator was so anemic I checked vidios. I didn't want kinder gentler washer I want a unit that will kick a## on dirt. I could do a better job with a horse trough and plunger. I had to wash some things twice and still didn't get surface light crusted dirt off. The lid lock is a pain in the behind too.
I love the Star Trek Next Generation additions. Apart from the great information you provide, it is the reason why I am hitting SUBSCRIBE. I am searching for a new (kind of) large capacity washer. I hope that you have videos on other machines I have in mind.
Nice try but the problem is that the spiral agitator vanes just move back and forth instead of going in one direction only like my old washer that had a one way clutch on the agitator and easily moved the clothes in a circular motion from top to bottom. This agitator does not move the clothes around from top to bottoms. Big missed opportunity.
Thanks so much for both this video and the 3hr GoPro one! Do you know if there is a compatible 1) agitator that is more effective than this removable one and perhaps allows for fabric softener/vinegar to be dispensed, and 2) wash cap to protect the wash plate when the agitator is removed? I know neither of these come included, but I'm interested in retrofitting to make this washer more effective, if there are options out there that are safe and compatible.
One thing you should note is that this auger doesn't ratchet like older augers. If you look at the physics of this, it could drive items down when turning one direction, then pull them up in the other direction. Older machines like the direct drive or belt drive have agitators that are integral to rotating items. Without fins, a wash plate is half as effective, and the only reason that they use them is that a full agitator wouldn't work with such low water. I think that wash plate machines, under any brand, with or without an auger, are not as effective as older machines, and must be packed with electronics to achieve the wash action necessary for washing.
It always boggles my mind how many problems we've identified with washers - needs a lot of water for agitator to work, using that much water dilutes detergent and hurts cleaning performance, wash plate doesn't turn clothes, can't redistribute clothes for the spin cycle without re-filling with another 70 gallons of water so spin speed is half of what it could be and billions of kWh are wasted yearly by americans having to dry much wetter clothes.... when *ALL* of those things are completely solved by turning the damn thing on its side. Why do Americans resist demonstably better designs with such vigor? I swear if we put that effort into desgning new appliances, we wouldn't be stuck with that flimsy 1962-designed lint-top dryer from Whirlpuke. lololol
@@dregenius The WP top lint screen dryer is one of the best on the market. It has just the right mix of durability, performance, repairability, and sound level. I don't think that Americans resist front load washers at all. But these come with some downsides, such as price tag, mildew issues, and vibration on less than optimum surfaces. All high efficiency washers are filled to the brim with electronics in order to manage the wash action and all the exotic components that are needed to pull off low water washing, and that is a real drain on durability. One of the best front load washers was the original Maytag Neptune, although it did have some mildew issues. I still marvel at how Maytag was able to get people to pay $1k for a washer, something unheard of at the time.
I have this exact washer. Bought it from Lowes three months ago and I don’t like it. I’ll tell ya why after I tell ya the PROS: 1) The nice big glass lid lets me look down inside the washer. 2) It has great powerful spinning action. Makes for drying time much shorter than ever before. Now here are the CONS: 1) I fill the washer 1/3 full of laundry and water doesnt cover the clothes. 2) So I push the extra water “faucet” button to make sure water goes above the laundry. But it only comes out cold. So my white t-shirts & towels that I set “hot” temp to, now turns luke warm. 3) And worst of all, the washer does not cycle the clothes around, but simply rocks it in the same position back & forth the entire time. So, every 10 min, I need to pause the cycle, open the lid (love that glass lid!) and turn the clothes around by hand to make sure all areas of my laundry get friction. I repeat everything again when it comes to the rinse cycle. Wish my 20 year old style washers didn’t break down.
I want to upgrade my washer. 😩 When I saw this unit I was sold thinking I would be getting the best of both worlds, but I'm going to get a washer with a regular agitator.
What would solve the problem with the impeller or wash plate is making them more aggressive to pull down clothes from the top to turn them over. The agitator in a agitator washer was next best with turning the clothes over. The front loading drum does this the best. It seems like the impeller either doesn’t have enough water in the normal cycle and too much water in the sheets/bulk cycle.
It doesn't. I am gonna do some tests later this year on wash quality between the 3. My theory is that there's probably different baselines of acceptable cleaning quality, but it varies by water usage between these 3 types, where certain agitation types are better with X water usages, and its not the same between the 3 types. Thinking of using all 3 types in 3 different modes (eco wash, normal, deep fill) and see the wash quality between each 3 types on a small 5lb identical load for them all.
This unit really makes me go “huh” a lot considering the paired dryer is 7.0 ft^3. Whereas the fixed agitator washers from Whirlpool and Maytag of the same size pair with a 7.4 ft^3. The corners cut seem to really turn my customers off and the 5.3 ft^3 unit (wtw8127) just seems to sell better. If the customers want to save they tend to lean toward the wtw5105 or the mvw6230 or even the new maytags. It’s been a tougher sell.
Thank you following up on a suggestion I had made. Good thorough review. We shall see how longevity and reliability are. How about reviewing the washer the claims to trap more pet hair than others?
@@Wifey01 hate it! Hate it! Hate it! I checked reviews before purchasing once I purchased I hate it my clothes are never submerged in water I stayed and watch the whole load wash and some clothes never submerged in the wash then once I figured this out I go back to reviews that made me buy lo and behold the bad reviews came in 🤦🏻♀️
I've been watching your videos all day and learning a lot! Would you consider this model or the WTW5105HW to be a better buy for top load? I'm coming from an LG front load -only 6 years old that has had major mold issues despite constant cleaning and drying. I'm leaning toward the top load for this reason but I'm also tempted by the microban feature on the GE model GFW650. Any thoughts? Trying not to make another mistake and so much conflicting info out there. Thanks for your videos!
The only way you can make a front loader to last longer is by not using the fastest speed. By avoiding the fastest speed you can almost double its life span. The other thing is don't do bathroom rugs in them. Better to go to a laundromat. On a GE front loader this is a must. Anyway it is a free advice.
I have the same washing machine but mine just don’t have the removable agitator. Everything else is exactly the same. I’ve had it 3 weeks and I hate it. It goes to sense cycle then soak cycle. When the soak cycle is done it starts flashing the sense, lid lock and done button. It never goes to wash. I’ve just be draining and spinning out the load then start over so they can be rinsed. I don’t know what to do. I just want to scream!!!!!
My Whirlpool washer is my nightmare. I have a washer plate. First, I can't put more than 6 T-shirts in it with out getting unbalanced. I can't leave the washer. Good thing my washer is off my kitchen. But I would like to put my clothes in a washer and leave it to other places in my house. I feel as though I'm chained to my washing machine. I have tried everything as far as arranging my clothes in different ways I put into my washer. The only success is to barely put any clothes in it. Or basically, I have to wait until it starts to spin and open it and make sure it is arranged perfectly. Well, sometimes you can go through the process several times. The washer spins twice from wash to rinse and rinse to done. It's very frustrating. I was wondering if there is a KIT to convert my washing plate to a agitator. Second, it hardly has any water come out. I guess it's conserving water but I end up using more water because I can barely put anything in there. I can't go through this for 20 more years because my husband won't buy another one until it breaks. That is why I have come up with the Conversion Kit to fix this nightmare of a washer. Can you help?
Wow. Was just getting ready to order from HD and came across this video. Great points of potential problems, especially the most important is the short and thin agitator, didn't realize it. Our current flat plate washer sucks for cleaning clothes, but great for comforters, just not worth it. Going back to a real agitator. Thanks "Whirlpool Man".
Whirlpool is offering me 75% off any Whirlpool washer to replace my Whirlpool thats drum is starting to split at the bottom. Any Whirlpool, Maytag, or Amana. I want one with a large capacity, doesnt bang when out of balance, and has a quick wash time. What should i get?
I have owned this model for two years and it is reliable and efficient and convenient ... but ... has anyone had "mildew flakes" starting to appear in the wash? The mildew flakes are coming from inside the removable agitator. I have tried multiple ways of cleaning the agitator, but to no avail. Is there a way of cleaning (just the agitator) that I am missing? Thanks!
Just got this washer because our older one broke. Our old one had an agitator with a softener dispenser. Is there a way to use softener without having to do it manually at the final rinse cycle?
I just bought this washer. The lid lock will not engage, so 4 days later, I haven't been able to use the washer at all. I think I'm going to return it. As to your softener question, the manual recommends using the Downy softener ball. With the softener in the ball, you drop it in at the beginning of the wash.
I would like to know if there's some way to replace the removable agitator with one that has a fabric softener dispenser. Timing it correctly with the final rinse cycle is difficult because it often drains as soon as I put it in, and Downy Balls are unreliable.
The wash plate does NOT wash bedding. The new agitators are made different than the older ones and don't do as well. We had to go with a front loader after trying a wash plate Maytag (JUNK) And reading/watching videos on agitators. Washers are made horribly.
I find Downy Balls so unreliable to use. I've been trying to add vinegar during the final rinse cycle, but it always seems like it drains whenever I pause and add it. Does anyone know how to do this correctly?
@@cyxu Press the cycle button (it is like a right arrow button) to pause the cycle. It will unlock the lid. You can add the vinegar or fabric softener to the clothes. Press the faucet button to get a little rinse water. Then stop the faucet, close the lid. Press the cycle button again to start the machine back up. That should work without it draining the water until the cycle is done. I tried to answer your other question but YT is not letting it through. I would ener your washer model number into a search engine and the form should come up.

What is the best top washer than?
That's why they're not made to last that long anymore---- the manufacturers wouldn't have enough business
What did u do about the grinding?
I checked the wash plate to see if it had deteriorated. There was a small piece of plastic that had fallen under it, but that was it.
I've been selling appliances for 12 years. Love your videos. Keep up the Amazing Work - Thanks
That is awesome!
@@CaffeineOmanTruly garbage.
I just got one. Literally every single washer has terrible reviews I think people are just dumb honestly. Great to see a good review !

Wow, thanks!
I deeply appreciate this video and the STNG cameo. Very nicely done. Thanks for the input on this machine ❤️👍
Got mine on order going to leave a review as well! Best for the budget I see!
Are you pleased with it?
How do you like it? I ordered one but considering canceling because of all the horror stories I've read
Same, will getting the extended warranty justify it?
@@ei8htb8lldid you buy it?
I agree.
Plus, sometimes their repair people will try to say the customer "abused" the unit and try to escape doing anything!

The vent is a straight run to the outdoors with no major bends or massive lint build up
@@bensappliancesandjunk The dryer is brand new and so is the line. (It's a new house) I've been very disappointed so far.
Almost all slow-dry problems are related to venting.
I have never seen my water level get that high and I have this washing machine. I have used deep cycle since I got the machine.
I'm having the same problem
Any resolution for this guys?

Whirlpool has now added a washer plate cap pn: WPW10305259.
I have this exact model of washing machine and the run capacitor didn't even last a year before i had to replace it.
@robmiller9098home depot sale shipping too? Lol
This was helpful. But even using deep wash, mine didn't cover the clothes fully in water and i used about the same size load
Thanks!
Speed Queen TC5 or an LG WM3400

Sorry to hear that. My LG washer outlasted the warranty, barely.
@@bensappliancesandjunk what is the best top loader? Do you have a video?
We have the same Whirlpool and it doesn’t work. It doesn’t turn the clothes at all and not enough water to even wet the clothes. My wife has to wash everything with the deep water feature on heavy duty. Clothes still smell and doesn’t remove stains. Had an old one for 25 years and it worked great.
Had same issue with Samsung switched back to 600 dollar with agitator never going g back
It's typically a user issue. Clothes are to be loosely placed in the washer; not pushed down to fit as many as possible. That's why the clothes won't move and smell. The clothes need room to move!
tiny nitpick: watts are a rate, not an amount. When talking about usage over the cycle it should probably be Wh (watt-hours)
I wish I would have seen this video 2 weeks ago then I wouldn't have bought this washer one week ago.

This is exactly what is happening to me. What one did you end up getting?
Literally every single top loader is built like shit now. I just went with maytag basic one with agitator. If it lasts me 5 years, great. I set it on bulky, with max fill for pretty much every load. It fills almost to the top with water. Only thing i dont like is it will not fill with water while lid is open which sucks for putting soap in. Other than that its quiet, and my clothes are clean. The BIG thing with these new generation of top loaders is DO NOT OVER FILL YOUR LOAD. It will kill the things life.

Here in South Africa, we have a Defy top loader but the pulsator is prone to stripping the gear bush at the bottom. You can't get the bush as a loose item and must purchase the complete pulsator
Not surprised. Many have that system in place, and its horrible. I wish they made more sub-components, but its a common story throughout the industry
Thank you very much. You did such a great review. Best one I have seen.!
Mines broke twice. Agitator splines at quick disconnect. Also broke hub of washplate
Interesting, however we're gonna stick with our Front Loaders. Great Information on a Top Loader. Thanks Ben.

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the review! Any update on this unit?
I LOVE mine!
Hi is there a way to let the washer fill up with water,THEN add detergent to the water, THEN add clothes?
You need to set the deep water setting at the beginning so it will fill up with your selected temperature.
I just got this washer today, so far it at least washes better than the Kenmore elite I had.
9 months later, and I’m still happy with it. 🤞🤞🤞
That washplate you showed is a Maytag washplate
Right
Bro you are the man great review
Thanks!
My daughter bought one 6 months ago. It has needed service 3 times. Not knocking stuff, maybe a lemon. It happens. Just putting it out there.
Great channel. Who would’ve thought? Thanks
That was a Maytag washplate with the cap
Ah!
Is there any way to turn on an end of cycle on the washing machine?
I'd love to. I am not sure how to get a Maytag Pet Pro though to review without spending a lot of money. Its on my list if I find one cheaply
How did got it clean with the agitator removed?
I just bought this thank you for the review 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
How do you like it a year later?
@@Wifey01 hate it! Hate it! Hate it! I checked reviews before purchasing once I purchased I hate it my clothes are never submerged in water I stayed and watch the whole load wash and some clothes never submerged in the wash then once I figured this out I go back to reviews that made me buy lo and behold the bad reviews came in 🤦🏻♀️
@@elisaviramontes8404 do you still have it? Mine was delivered yesterday.
I’ve noticed that my machine suds up a lot in regular wash. Do you recommend using deep water all the time?
I use the deep fill in every wash cause I want to see more water ..
Watch..." how to work my whirlpool washer". When I started it did the same thing to me....
Oh that was six months ago..I'm pretty sure u got it by now.
My Motor Shroud broke from this unit. Would i be able to still use it until the replacement comes in or should I refrain from using it.
I would like to know what washer with removable agitator you would recommend. seems like everything is crap. I am on the 16th year with my GE set.
There is no other manufacturer of removable agitators; i researched this and an appliance salesman told me the same thing.
Great review. The instructions from the manufacturer are lacking. It gives no instruction for adding softner.
I would like to know if there's a conversion kit too!
it’s also good to let the clothes agitate each other, other than always relying on the agitation of the agitator. 😊
i sense you've become agitated
Wow. Was just getting ready to order from HD and came across this video. Great points of potential problems, especially the most important is the short and thin agitator, didn't realize it. Our current flat plate washer sucks for cleaning clothes, but great for comforters, just not worth it. Going back to a real agitator. Thanks "Whirlpool Man".
get a front loader
Thank you.
The smaller agitator leaves detergent on my clothes. Never happened with my old washing machine.
Thanks!
Use a washing machine cleaner like affresh or our wash bomb
@@bensappliancesandjunk thank you for replying! We have tried that, but to no luck. I just wish we could open the agitator and clean the inside
Got this one at Costco and I don't like it. It's very noisy and the clothes comes out too damp compared to my Kenmore.
Are all whirlpool and maytag washers plastic bottom tubs?
I’m getting the new tall impeller one!
Is there a softener place?
Thank you for the awesome review!
It’s a cool washer
The wash plate does NOT wash bedding.
The new agitators are made different than the older ones and don't do as well.
We had to go with a front loader after trying a wash plate Maytag (JUNK) And reading/watching videos on agitators. Washers are made horribly.
So true
At least is not a Samsung washer.
Please do 4 shirts on the delicate cycle with full cycle video in this whirlpool with out the top part is the agitator and pls reply to me.
@@spencerj3 nah moved to SQ a year ago, my working clothes never got really clean in my old LG washer
@@makatron why you ping me?
Loll
😂 I know right
Where do you add the fabric softener?
Per the manual, put the softener in a Downey ball and drop it in when you start the wash.
@@karolegi6539Or you can add it yourself. Hit pause at the rinse cycle, add softener then restart the machine.
We had ours for 1.5 years and the transmission went out - quoted 475 to fix it
Thats about normal for the transmission, sadly. The part alone is $200 usually
Is it possible to retrofit the agitator plate with the removable agitator into a WTW5000DW?
I'm curious about this too!
