    If it's just cultivating that 4000 can probably pull a 6 row just fine.

    It is ideal that you have these options available to explore and compair to conventional corn. Thanks for keeping us posted. Very interesting..

    Is that a old Pittsburgh cultivator kinda sorta! Exploring all possibilities in crops, kinds , etc ! I’d like to be organic but with the weed pressure here it would be hard ! Thanks friends

    It will be most interesting to see yield and financial comparison between the organic and conventional crops. It does occur to me that that this newly broken ground will naturally have a higher level of nutrients and organic carryover with a long time fallow and no cropping history which may present a biased picture based on first year crop production.
    What interests me is it in The Plan to cover crop this to reduce erosion as that is a pretty sharp slope? Also what would be in The Plan for a following crop?

      Rye or alfalfa field on the slope was planted in alfalfa. Which gives it a good nitrogen base I'll try to explain more in a video. Have an awesome weekend

    As an old fool, I would ask whatever happened to the Farmers' First rule of row crop planting - Always till and plant ACROSS the HILL, NEVER WITH IT

    • @TheFarmingLife
      @TheFarmingLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a difficult field to plant just because it's pretty steep we have to think what would be the best way to combine it. I worked it up and down last year before we put Alfalfa in here never had any trouble with washout. Couple heavy rains if we do get one I'll show you what we're talkin about

      Thats what i was going to say. In 5 years there will be no top soil on the hill. If its that steep, it should be in pasture.

    Did the 4000 come with power steering

    • @n5ifi
      @n5ifi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That tractor has power steering. You can see the power steering pump when he drives by. My late 60's 4000 does not have power steering but it's still easy to operate without it. If yours is hard to steer and it does not have power steering the spindle bushings may be completely worn out. This is normal over time. That makes the steering much harder. This tractor will last forever if taken even partial care of. The amazing thing is that our government and all the nuts around would have you throw this tractor away for a electronic injection tractor and def. Nuts The only time my tractor even partially smokes is at idle. When running it's as clean as a pin.
