This incredible duo have selflessly given up so much of their own lives to protect and save greyhounds everywhere and their compassion and dedication are nothing short of awe-inspiring.
What an incredible talk!! I had the absolute honor to learn from Christine and Carey as a volunteer in the early days of the Massachusetts campaign. Everything I learned from them helped propel my career in animal welfare! I always meet people who think GREY2K USA is a huge organization given how effective they are. It’s incredible what smart, strategic, dedicated people can accomplish! They are an inspiration to many.
Elise, your contributions to the Yes on 3 campaign in Massachusetts will never be forgotten! I remember when you agreed to do a local TV interview and how well it went. And now you are a total superstar at Best Friends, doing such critical work for the animals. Brava!
Carey & Christine! Thank you so much for doing this TED! Marvelous presentation and of course I'm crying because for years I saw first hand how hard you worked for us here in Florida and across the U.S. to bring down this horrible industry. And now your doing it for the greyhounds around the world! Just the other day when someone noticed me reading your book, I was telling them how you two have and are continuing to literally change the world; it truly is possible!! Love you!
Thank you for your years of hard work here in Florida and your continuing efforts on behalf of greyhounds everywhere. We have been rescuing greyhounds for over 30 years and I'm glad to say that your activism has made our efforts mostly no longer needed. I joined you at many committee meetings and events in Tallahassee and learned from you the value of determination and perseverance. On behalf of the 60+ greyhounds we have adopted and fostered, THANK YOU!!!
WOW!!! Powerful journey and message. So great that they covered things that did not work, and not just the successes. Technically her dog's sacrificial action(s) in a way saved all those other dogs! Got me tearing up! 😢
Thank You, Christine and Carey!!! Your amazing relentless and passionate work to help save as many greyhound lives and the goal to shut down ALL greyhound race tracks in our nation and across the world!! God bless you forever to keep up your awesome compassionate love and work with your Great Success--For the Love of Dogs!!❣❣❣❣❣❣❣❣❣❣
What a wonderful testament to the human spirit to fight for the voiceless. Our animal friends with their unconditional love continue to amaze us with their resilience. Carey and Christine are living their lives On Purpose and are exceptional role models for us all.
This is full of solid practical advice for all kinds of would-be activists. Thank you for helping clarify what you have done for all these years to help Brooklyn and the other greyhounds.
It is absolutely amazing all you guys have done for Greyhounds throughout the world. May God continue to bless you and your efforts. I know Gina & Brooklyn are so proud of you .
What a remarkable story, Christine and Carey. Your spirit and tenacity to fight for these innocent and abused beings inspire us all. It is an honor and privilege for Lantern Publishing & Media to publish your book Brooklyn Goes Home.
What a fascinating and moving talk with priceless lessons on how to make a difference. Your shared story of defeat, resolve, and love for a grey named Brooklyn is inspiring and will continue to motivate change for generations to come. Thank you.
Absolutely loved this! I fostered a greyhound once, and she was the sweetest, most gentle dog I’ve ever known. Hearing this talk made me think back on how grateful I am for that experience
Thank you Christine and Carey for all that you have done and continue to do, you serve as true inspiration to all of us, let's hope we can finally end this across the globe and with your story and inspiration I'm sure it is only a matter of time!!
Inspiring and uplifting and a resounding YES to tenacity, a global and united approach and remaining focussed on the big picture and the many facets we all need to accommodate and champion as a global movement. With much respect and gratitude from the team at Animal Liberation in NSW Australia. We CAN and WILL do this!
Loving the passion behind this cause!! Hopefully they can take this tenacity to other animal welfare issues, there are so many causes that need attention.
The lesson about activism being a marathon, not a sprint, is spot on. So many people expect quick results, but the real work takes years, sometimes decades. This talk really drives that point home.
Thank you, It was an easy decision to keep trying year after year, and through to oday because we knew that quitting was just what the dog track supporters would want us to do! We also knew that the dogs still needed and need help. Simple!
I was fortunate enough to meet Carey and Christine this year in Tasmania....amazing dedication to a horrific industry....as you said never give up, keep going, the fight is worth it....and yes the beginning of the end movement is happening in Australia - we have a few awesome Politicians here in Tassie and on the mainland who are supporting the end of racing.......time, with lots of people power and plenty of money is needed to fight this industry!
Thank you for advocating for these marvelous, sweet dogs. I am a devotee of your organization. For those people who watched this TED talk, please consider purchasing Brooklyn Goes Home. I did. I share my life with an Italian Greyhound and know the wonder that is this breed. They are gentle and loving. Christine and Carey are modern day saints. Despite obstacle after obstacle, they persevered against all odds for a cause they knew was right. I have spent many years volunteering for animal shelters and am in awe of those people like Carey and Christine who advocate tirelessly for those who do not have the voices to speak for themselves. Thank you to the folks at TED Talks for having the wisdom and compassion to reach a broader audience.
This is so great, loved their approach and how much it shows that activism isn't just about protests and making noise but also making strategic moves that lead to tangible results.
I was so touched by Brooklyn’s story! To go from such a horrible place to finding love and care, that’s what activism is really about, giving others a chance at life.
What an amazing, inspirational story! Thank you. Thank you for reminding us that a small group of bright, determined, committed individuals can change the world!
We're deeply grateful to Christine and Carey for their compassionate work to help greyhounds in need around the world. It's a privilege to collaborate with GREY 2 K USA. Here's to continued success! Hugs from OIPA - International Organization for Animal Protection
This is an incredible story about perseverance and tenacity! And it's a story about not being afraid to lose, over and over again. Because if you want to truly change the world, you will suffer defeats. But, amidst those defeats, you learn and grow and build support inside and outside the political process. And eventually, you WIN! In this case, greyhound dogs were the victors, but this is a successful model for anyone that wants to make a difference and is willing to play the requisite long game to do it.
The description of the early failures was very relatable but whereas most people would get discouraged the fact that they changed tactic and kept at it is so very inspiring!
The story of Brooklyn, Carey, and Christine has completely changed my perspective of Greyhound racing. I voted against Amendment 13 in Florida but after reading about this harrowing tale highlighting humanity, I regret doing so. I highly recommend picking up Brooklyn Goes Home. What these two amazing people is changing the world and their impact will be felt for generations to come. ❤️
Hearing about her accident and how her dog saved her life was emotional. That moment clearly fueled her whole mission, and it’s beautiful to see how it’s led to saving so many other dogs!!
Oh I love this story so much!!! I adopted a greyhound from a shelter a few years ago and it was the best thing I ever did, they are such beautiful dogs!
Carey and Christine are passionate advocates for Greyhounds worldwide. Their work has essentially ended greyhound racing in the United States. Let their work inspire you. Hard things can be done when you simply take the first step.
Through tears I write to thank you for sharing your amazing story. Your persistence, determination and love for these beings shines through with every nuance, every word. You provide us all with hope, persistence and determination to continue the fight worldwide to end this cruel industry, this exploitation of the beautiful, gentle greyhound.
I really admire the persistence and dedication that went into this campaign. The fact that they kept fighting even after so many losses is inspiring. It shows that real change doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen!!
You guys are amazing! You have done so much for the greyhounds all over the world. I am sure Gina & Brooklyn are looking done with much pride and love. May God continue to bless you and your efforts to end this terrible torture of these gentle dogs.
What a fantastic story and great lessons to those of us who do want to change the world for greyhounds Thank you for sharing your wisdom. You pulled at my heartstrings, too! ❤
I think the most impressive part is how resilient they are... they had so many defeats and easily could have just thrown in the towel but just reoriented themselves and kept going. That's really impressive.
Excellent TEDtalk! I recently read your book Brooklyn Goes Home. It is an inspiration in activism and purpose, and how to collaborate with other like minded people and organizations to move toward a common goal. ❤ Thank you both for staying focused on the greyhounds and not giving up!
The part about persisting through failure really resonated with me. It’s easy to give up after a setback, but they turned their loss into motivation, which is a lesson we can all learn from.
Christine and Carey nailed it. To "win" it takes persistence, determination and a relentless pursuit for justice. Far too many activists toss in the towel after a defeat, or several defeats, but that is exactly what the opposition is counting on. Protests and boycotts have their place, but it is only through the political process that laws get made. Watch this TED again for the message on how to be a great activist for animals, or for any cause you believe in.
I've read your book about Brooklyn and taking down the racing industry. A brilliant and beautiful book. I admire you two so much. They are still building tracks here in Australia. Please help our greyhounds here in OZ
Christine and Carey show and tell us how it's done. Defeating an industry that commercializes cruelty to animals takes careful planning, research, hard work and persistence. And these two did it all and won. So, animal rights activists, stop hand-wringing and get to work. Thanks, Christine and Carey, for your determination and vision. Your integrity and enthusiasm are a lesson for us all.
This is an amazing story of tremendous strategy, perseverance and yes some luck! It is inspiring to hear how two people can achieve so much by keeping focused on what is important. Thank you for sharing your story!
I had no idea how big the greyhound racing industry was until now. The way they managed to take it down bit by bit is nothing short of amazing. It really makes me believe in the power of persistence.
Excellent presentation - inspiring and as the saying goes 'If at first you don't succeed - try, try ,try again' - this video clearly demonstrates that 'dogged' determination and the right approach will win in the end! Congratulations Christine and Carey for all the hard work you have put in over the years to free these gentle dogs from imprisonment and exploitation and for championing their cause.
I really admire how they didn’t let all those setbacks stop them. It reminds me that you have to stay focused on the bigger picture, even when the journey feels impossible.
The comparison between young activists relying on social media today and their early protests was interesting. It’s a good reminder that exposure alone doesn’t create change-you need action.
The fact that they fought for so many years and never gave up is incredible. I can’t imagine having that kind of determination, but it’s inspiring to see what’s possible when you do!
Gee thanks! When you work for dogs, the decision makes itself, you might say. Dogs don't know the difference between election day or any other day, they just know they want to be safe.
He was such a wonderful dog. He actually had a heart marking on his back. You can read more about him and see a video of his adoption at grey2kusadotorg/rememberingbrooklyn if you like!
I got chills when they talked about meeting Brooklyn for the first time after all those years of suffering. It’s moments like that which show how meaningful their work really is.
The way they described their first big loss was gut-wrenching. Important for all the would-be activists to know that this is not for the faint of heart and it's rarely a straight line to success.
That loss was so hard! But we realize now that if we had won in 2000, we would have all moved on and we never would have formed GREY2K USA Worldwide to take on the industry wherever it exists. Silver lining?
I really like the part about Christine becoming a lawyer. I think it really speaks to the power of recognizing the skills you need and just going out and getting them. Pretty amazing.
Wow! That's one incredible story. Two kind individuals - determined but wet behind the ears - take on a rich and powerful industry and win!!! Thank you so much, Carey and Christine for moving mountains for the dogs. Here is a great lesson about carrying on, even when things look bleak; adjusting strategies and taking full advantage of any piece of luck that comes your way (like meeting a sympathetic politician). BRAVO!
Carey and Christine, you are wonderful examples of how we can all create positive change for animals through perseverance, grit and determination. Thank you for everything you’ve done for greyhounds and animals everywhere. You are a true inspiration!
This incredible duo have selflessly given up so much of their own lives to protect and save greyhounds everywhere and their compassion and dedication are nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Brooklyn's life is forever with purpose to continue saving the lives of these majestic dogs!! God has blessed Brooklyn's precious soul.🙏❤🙏
We're fighting to end greyhound racing in Australia. Thankyou for your encouragement 🎉❤
Wonderful! These are two amazing individuals who have made such a positive impact.
Inspiring. Thank you. Your three points for successful activism are written in bold letters on my office wall!
Here in Florida we embraced this movement and ended greyhound racing. We thank you for lighting the flame
WHAT a story. Thank you for everything you’ve done for greyhounds and now activists around the world, present and generations into the future.
yeah I think people will be learning from these guys for a long time to come

You both are incredibly adept at creating a clear message, strategizing and methodically executing. And now teaching others, incredible. Heroes!

Thanks for your leadership in Florida and to this day, Don!
Can't help but applaud their achievements. 👏👏👏👏
We hope to inspire others to make positive changes in the world, so thank you for watching our talk! ☺

Brilliant! You two are an inspiration to anybody who is trying to effect change for animals!
Thanks so much, Connie. You led the way in Oregon!
Really great talk, Christine and Carey. Thankful for your work!
What a wonderful testament to the human spirit to fight for the voiceless. Our animal friends with their unconditional love continue to amaze us with their resilience. Carey and Christine are living their lives On Purpose and are exceptional role models for us all.
Thank you to Susan and to everyone at Fid Friendly for such kind words!
Y'all's work is just incredible - thank you for all that you do! Beautiful talk!
This is a fantastic story about two people who persevered through failures to save the lives of thousands of greyhounds!
Our sweet babies are always in our hearts. How we miss them!
What a remarkable story, Christine and Carey. Your spirit and tenacity to fight for these innocent and abused beings inspire us all. It is an honor and privilege for Lantern Publishing & Media to publish your book Brooklyn Goes Home.
Thank you for helping us share our story, Brian!
What a fascinating and moving talk with priceless lessons on how to make a difference. Your shared story of defeat, resolve, and love for a grey named Brooklyn is inspiring and will continue to motivate change for generations to come. Thank you.

Brilliant. Those two are true heroes.

A mate of mine saved 2 greyhounds from a shelter. Most beautiful dogs I've met.
That's awesome!
Simple!
If we fully give ourselves to a cause, our lives somehow receive a richness of purpose that is 10 fold what we have gave.
We agree! It is an honor to work for dogs!
Christine and Carey, you have once again successfully demonstrated what advocacy combined with effective action can accomplish!!!
You guys really went about this in such a dignified and clever way. No flashy publicity stunts, just proper strategy. I respect it so much.
Thanks, we are nerds all right. LOL
Excellent talk. Persistence and dedication can achieve so much. Well done Carey and Christine!
Warren, let's take on the cruelty of dog racing Down Under together!

Thanks, Jo. It is a pleasure to know you and to fight for the greyhounds together.
This means so much to so many people. Thank you for loving the greyhounds 🩷
Keep the momentum going! End greyhound racing!
they did?

Oh my Gosh, when she asks: “Why don’t I become a lawyer?” 😂. Love it!
This is so great, loved their approach and how much it shows that activism isn't just about protests and making noise but also making strategic moves that lead to tangible results.
I feel like their approach could be a blueprint for other activist movements! Seriously clever and inspiring stuff.
Thanks for your kind words!
I was so touched by Brooklyn’s story! To go from such a horrible place to finding love and care, that’s what activism is really about, giving others a chance at life.
Definitely teared up when they spoke about Brooklyn joining their family. So amazing they could give him a beautiful and loving last few years.
What an amazing, inspirational story! Thank you. Thank you for reminding us that a small group of bright, determined, committed individuals can change the world!
You words mean so much, thank you!

What a partnership! Their complementary skills-strategy and tenacity, are a great example of what teamwork can accomplish.
Thank you!!😊
Just like everything else in life it's all about being consistent and persistent! 💪🏼💪🏼
Agreed!
Hearing about her accident and how her dog saved her life was emotional. That moment clearly fueled her whole mission, and it’s beautiful to see how it’s led to saving so many other dogs!!
Thank you so much for your kind words. My dear Kelsey inspired me, and changed my life in so many ways.
Thank you for all of your amazing work, Carey and Christine! So grateful for your tenacity on this important issue.
Thanks for all your hard work for the greyhounds in Colorado, Adeline!
Thanks for all your help and guidance, John!
Love this, Love them, I think I saw Greyhound racing in another country or state lately. Good work guys!
Every one of us have a child inside who still trusts us to make the right choices!
Inspiring talk on doing just that.
Fran, thank you for all you do to help innocent hounds in Tasmania. They are so lucky to have your smarts and determination.
You guys definitely created change, much needed and hopefully long lasting!
Thank you so much!
You gotta admire their resilience. It's a reminder that sometimes the biggest successes come after the hardest battles.
Thank you for wathcing our Talk!
I really admire the persistence and dedication that went into this campaign. The fact that they kept fighting even after so many losses is inspiring. It shows that real change doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen!!
Persistence is the key!
Love the approach to failing, especially the reframe on letting it fuel you, that's really good advice!
Loved hearing about such a journey - especially that it had a happy ending on all fronts
Thank you so much for watching our talk! We were so lucky to have Brooklyn in our lives.
I like that they were almost strategic in how they approached the situation. Way more powerful than people just protesting on the streets
no "almost" about it! they definitely had a plan and follow through on it
You guys are amazing! You have done so much for the greyhounds all over the world. I am sure Gina & Brooklyn are looking done with much pride and love. May God continue to bless you and your efforts to end this terrible torture of these gentle dogs.
Lori, thanks for all your support and for believing in us!
What a fantastic story and great lessons to those of us who do want to change the world for greyhounds
Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
You pulled at my heartstrings, too! ❤
I think the most impressive part is how resilient they are... they had so many defeats and easily could have just thrown in the towel but just reoriented themselves and kept going. That's really impressive.
Thanks for watching our Talk and for your kind words. This is really kind of you.

You guys really did something amazing here. Thank you on behalf of dog lovers everywhere!!
and thank you for caring!
Amazing video Christine. You and Carey continue to be an inspiration!
Thanks for your support and thanks for sharing the dream of ending dog racing!
The part about persisting through failure really resonated with me. It’s easy to give up after a setback, but they turned their loss into motivation, which is a lesson we can all learn from.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Christine and Carey nailed it. To "win" it takes persistence, determination and a relentless pursuit for justice. Roland, you are such a great advocate for the animals. It has been our pleasure to work with you in Colorado.
Christine and Carey - you are both a shining light in the darkness. Thank you for sharing your amazing story. You are truly an inspiration!
I've read your book about Brooklyn and taking down the racing industry. A brilliant and beautiful book. I admire you two so much. They are still building tracks here in Australia. Please help our greyhounds here in OZ
The idea to make the tracks report on injuries and deaths was so clever!! Glad to hear it was the change up they needed.
Their story really highlights how important it is to keep pushing, even when it feels like nothing’s happening.
Exactly, and don't be afraid to fail. Success is always on the horizon.
This is an amazing story of tremendous strategy, perseverance and yes some luck! It is inspiring to hear how two people can achieve so much by keeping focused on what is important. Thank you for sharing your story!
Jay, thank you for making our work possible and for all your years of service. You are a greyhound hero.
Man what an achievement!! I wish other countries would follow suit
Together, we can realize change!
I had no idea how big the greyhound racing industry was until now. The way they managed to take it down bit by bit is nothing short of amazing. It really makes me believe in the power of persistence.

Congratulations Christine and Carey for all the hard work you have put in over the years to free these gentle dogs from imprisonment and exploitation and for championing their cause.
Thank you so much Judy. Your beautiful photographs of rescued greyhounds say so much about the need to protect these gentle friends.
Thank you guys for doing so much for so many doggos!!!!!
Thank you for watching our TedTalk. We love our work.
I really admire how they didn’t let all those setbacks stop them. It reminds me that you have to stay focused on the bigger picture, even when the journey feels impossible.
Absolutely. Don't stop trying just because failure is possible. By stopping, failure is guaranteed.
Truly incredible guys, well done and thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank YOU for watching!
The comparison between young activists relying on social media today and their early protests was interesting. It’s a good reminder that exposure alone doesn’t create change-you need action.
Great story- very heart warming. Thanks for the reminder that it often takes longer than we might think to make important changes.
It's heartbreaking to hear what those dogs went through, but what really stood out to me was how they used the law to create real change!
It's hard to believe that ANYONE ever thought that racing dogs in circles and betting on their lives would be a "sport!"
@@christineanndorchakesq.400 Absolutely. Just speaks to how much we undervalue the lives of other creatures
You guys are what's needed in the world right now.
This is amazing! It's like they single handedly shut down the whole industry
I can't believe they actually got to adopt Brooklyn! Such a beautiful ending to the story.

Thanks for your kind words!
love them, what good people, thank you both for caring so much
Thank you for your kind words. "We work for dogs" - that's our motto!
This is amazing persistence, to get a law degree for that sole purpose is incredible
Thank you so much Eileen!
