Omg!!! Thank you so much!! You not only saved me thousands of dollars but more embarrassment driving around my Range Rover with this rattle! I almost bought a whole new exhaust just to fix it. Really appreciate you! Cheers!
Thanks for the informative video . My M140 started rattling after a spirited drive where I hit some flood water . Checked the spring and it was missing ! Originally booked in under warranty but decided to try and sort it myself using your video . Bought 2 clips for £12 from BMW and fitted 1 this morning . And guess what ? No rattle ! Bought the car in September which is 4yrs old with 22000 miles now, bargain at just under £18000 from BMW main dealer . Happy days for a change . Keep posting .
Thanks for a simple and great video. I have a slight rattle on my M140i and assume it's the exact same issue. Will have to take a look at it this weekend!
Thanks for the video! Did the fix last? I’m having the same sound from my exhaust. When I looked, the clip between the valve and the actuator was missing, so I installed a new one, but the rattle remains. I’m guessing there’s enough wear in the valve that the width of the clip is no longer enough to hold the flap tight. Half of me wants to try bending the clip. The other half thinks it’ll just be rattling again by Fall, so I’m tempted to just remove the clip again, and spot weld the flap in the open position.
Same here, I've installed a new clip (opened the clip wider first) and the rattle comes back. I think the valve itself wears out, so the rattle will just persist. Did you manage to sort yours? I'm contemplating pulling the plug whilst it's open so it stays open without the rattle. As far as I know it's only job is to help warm the cats up so not really needed. I have the res-delete, so I think the extra vibrations makes this even worse.
@MDrives I used a new clip and gave the clip an extra 6-7mm stretch at the very least. The spring needed some force to reinstall the actuator, so it is definitely under good load. However, the flap can still move and rattle, so it would appear to have more play than it should have. I'm considering removing the clip entirely and using a large jubilee clip to wrap around the exhaust and valve stem to hold it wide open. Such a crap design.
Hey buddy, sorry for the late reply, but i Hadn't seen your comment.@@G4lyfe68xxx I believe I simply used silicone lubricant, but I bet other would do the trick as well, or possibly even better. I don't recall the exact spots where I put it, but I remember a small pin or mechanism that I was able to move manually, so I simply poured a lot of lubricant on it and moved it a lot for the lubricant to be able to penetrate into the exhaust, and that was it. I'd say it solved the issue by 90%, as I can still hear a little rattle at times, but I'm sure that you can fix it to a 99% if you put enough time into it. I hope this helps, and remember to share your conclusion to help others.
It would have been perfectly fine as an instructional if you hadn’t have added that annoying fucking background music. People looking for solutions are generally just interested in fixing the problem, not being accosted by a horrible taste music.
This issue has driven me mad for about a month now! Now sorted, massive thanks for your help!

I couldn’t find any videos or anyone talking about this issue either. So nice to find this
Next time cut the music off so that we can hear the difference other wise your video ain’t helpful at all with the background music going on . 🤔

Thanks mate.
Nice one, it's amazing that dealers have put sports exhausts on under warranty instead of doing such an easy mod to fix the issue.
Peakwanderer I know. I hope the problem won’t come back.
@@MDrives Did it come back?
@@jarodvincent6199 no. Still works fine.

Great video. Mines just started after 2 years of ownership what an awful noise
irritating background music

It never returned in my case until I sold the car.

@@Total_Reflex I removed resonator and the problem never came back. Maybe you have to bend it a bit more?

@@Total_Reflex I think the problem you were experiencing was a bit different to mine.
Why is there music over a video demonstrating an audible issue with the car?!
Good informative video and I have the same issue but why play the music when I am trying to hear what you are saying? Nice one though 👍
I had that comment already. Lesson learned!
I can only hear mine when driving/moving. No noise when I’m stationary with engine on…not sure if it’s the same issue here
It could be if it comes from the rear. If from the front, it might be a wastegate (see o r of my latest videos where I talk about that).
@@MDrives thank you for your reply, sorted it now, it was the heat shield
Brilliant! I’m gunna try this fix tomorrow and see if it works :) thanks
Was the rattle noise could also be heard from the inside of the car ?
Yes
Wish I could have heard you instead of the music.
Does this work for an aftermarket exhaust with valves too?
Not sure. Worth a try if the symptoms are the same. They will all work the same way
Thank you! Although, my 2011 F25 X3, x35i has a different system, and lubrication was the fix for me
Not a problem. Thanks for your feedback. It might help others
@diverscuba123 what lubricant did you use and where did you put it? I have the exact same bmw and the same problem…..
How did you fixed it

What would happen if you simply removed the spring?
It would be moving and making a noise.
@@pozlejstronie found that out yesterday 😆😂🙈 new spring is due today. The old one had actually snapped.
Great video bruvy!!
Thanks
The music mate
Good vid thank you...this is also the same for the Audi TTRS and RS3 👍🏼

Great job and thank you

Thank you!!!!!
You’re welcome

Luckily not too difficult to fix
