I have a 2013 328i sedan (base) got the part for $14 I had the same exact problem and every mechanic said I needed a new muffler. Wasn’t until a neighbor recommended the clip that I found this video THANK YOU !!!
Thank you for sharing! I just installed the part and the rattling is gone. Dealership suggested I replace the whole muffler with parts and labor estimated to be over 2k. Now I know why they are called the stealership 😂
To everyone: Just bend the bow out to make it wider before purchasing a new bow. Valves need tension in two ways to keep them closed (one: in direction from actuator TO valve, second: in direction of closing the valve).
Thanks for the link, I ordered a clip... I checked under the car and my clip wasn't even there, so that's my issue. While I have a warranty to cover this, I rather just fix it myself. I imagine it was the extreme cold weather and snow/ice we've been hit with that cause the clip to probably snap off.
When I bought the car it sounded normal, I noticed a tiny rattle sometimes as I assume the clip became weaker and then it went all the way to this sound when the clip fell out until I fixed it. Great question
Great video and thank you so much for sharing! I actually had my 520d rear differential leak fixed. Since then there has been a terrible rattle on the left exhaust muffler. I wonder if they have missed putting the clip back in. I still have to check this and will take back to dealers as it was an outcome after their fix. Peace.
Thank you!!! 2016 328i with exact same issue. I checked and the piece isn't there. Must have fallen out. I ordered the replacement and now have it. Do you have another video where you show how you installed it? Thanks again!!
I have a 2017 bmw m4 competition and it’s doesn’t have a fixing bow, there is nothing there right now, rattles like crazy, what am I supposed to buy? The whole actuator?
I’m having this issue and got the right 10mm socket. Do you have any recommendations for which socket wrench works best? It looks like one of the bolts is too close and the socket wrench I have is a bit too big?
Mine sounds similar, but only when I switch between comfort and sport mode, and occasionally when rpm’s pass 3-4 grand, is this the same thing do ya think?
My Tips: - Use pliers to pinch the clip into place - If your clip doesn't align with the actuator, try turning the car on, and engaging the various drive modes until it does. My actuator was a little bit out of the range of rotation of the valve pin, but aligned once I turned it to sport mode. - This is A LOT easier if you jack your car up even 10cm so you have room to move your arms. - Get a headlamp, or bright torch I did not need to remove or even loosen the bolts, or unclip the electronics.
Quick question , I have an 08 323i that sound similar when i accelerate around corners , for a few seconds , it’s very random , but sounds exactly like that. It it my exhaust rattling as well ?
Marc Anthony I am not sure if it would be something different if it was only around corners, you can check under and see if you have the exhaust valve like I showed in this video though, hopefully you can find a solution!
Thank you. My wife's been driving me nuts complaining about hers, and wouldn't bring the car around to my garage to get a look. Watched this, went to the front and checked, and what do you know?? No clip in there. Part ordered!!
Careful this won't always fix the issue, sometimes it's the little plastic type thing on the opposite of that electric motor. If you have this issue, (PLEASE ONLY DO THIS WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN OFF FOR AT LEAST 6 HOURS) before you buy anything start your car for the 1st time that day and immediately go under the car, with your finger tip, push on the opposite side of the electric valve motor, covering the entire circle with your finger tip. If the rattle stops, you'll need to replace the whole valve or come up with an ingenious fix, that will still let the valve turn without being metal to metal. I've tried RVT (worked for about 2 months) I'm gonna try some kind of JB weld with a piece of wax paper cut in a tiny circle before the JB weld. Anyway respond with your fix unless you're boring and had Someone else do it lol, only joking, please don't respond if you're gonna be rude or ""straight up"" I don't care nor do I need to know. YOLO.
Same problem here , my fixing bow broke and the rattle was so annoying..... I just ordered the fixing bow thru eBay, I hope it works cuz ain’t trying to go to the bmw dealership lol

I have the exact same car and im definitely trying this

Is the same with the coil spring?
Thank you man! You saved my life. Thanks from Cancún México 🇲🇽
My car started making this same noise. Thank u so much. This helped alot
Very glad I could help, the noise bothered me SO badly!
Dude, Thank You! I needed that info Man. Much appreciated seriously!

I have 328 GT with this same rattle, think this might be my issue. Thank you so much for uploading this!
Did it sound like that with the old clip on

Mine makes that noise but when i went under it to check..... Well.... There is no flap actuator as the back box has been deleted. wtf?!?
Great video and thank you so much for sharing!

did you install it . same year & model
Hey just for reference does this sound only happen for you when it’s a cold stRt
no, sadly it never stopped, the loose metal stayed loose metal hot or cold
Great question though, I should have said that in the video, thanks!

Would this part work in a 430i?
How can I get this fix?
Thanks man I’m having this rattling issue as well with my x5 and was praying it wasn’t the catalytic converters 🥵
Caden Zellner Very glad to I could help! Seems like a very common BMW problem
Mine sounds similar, but only when I switch between comfort and sport mode, and occasionally when rpm’s pass 3-4 grand, is this the same thing do ya think?
Did you have to have the car hooked to a computer to set it....
Where is the video of how to install the new one?
do i need it? i can just cut it off when i do muffler delete

And yet you defeated the entire pourpose of this video, you never installed it.
Why do you think this happened to my 2011 328i?
Possibly the same reason, do you see if there is an electronic valve like this one on the 2011?
Quick question , I have an 08 323i that sound similar when i accelerate around corners , for a few seconds , it’s very random , but sounds exactly like that. It it my exhaust rattling as well ?

I have a 2016 325i and it just started making this noise a couple of days ago. I'm so annoyed because it sounds horrible
How the hell did you start the car without pressin the brake.... Or isn't push to start? 🤔
Good question!! I reached in with my foot while I pushed the button, great catch though!
I have same on my 5 series. but i do not have this type clips.
Thank you sir it really helped it really did and no I’m not a bot
Great video, thank you sir.
yep this is an issue on my m235i.
Thank you. My wife's been driving me nuts complaining about hers, and wouldn't bring the car around to my garage to get a look. Watched this, went to the front and checked, and what do you know?? No clip in there. Part ordered!!
Might be the camera or something but mine is a bit quieter, and only at cold start

Exact issue thanks
I’m having similar sound but it’s close to the engine
Thanks, my 435 just started making this noise when I cold start
Same but it doesn't always happen. I think it happens after I drive a little harder than usual on Sports mode. Did you fix it?
@@jeffhernandez6856 yup fixed it, looks like the old one broke off just found one side intact
Same problem here , my fixing bow broke and the rattle was so annoying..... I just ordered the fixing bow thru eBay, I hope it works cuz ain’t trying to go to the bmw dealership lol
Alex Bergman right! It sounded so bad and I’m very glad I was able to fix it so easily, hope the video helped and please comment with any questions!
Colins View it sure did ! Now I know how I can fix the issue with no problem 👌🏻💯 thank you !
I’m having this issue on my 2021 rs5 that i bought 2 weeks ago and really thought I was gonna have to pay 3k for a new catalytic converter
Hey just a little info. I bought the clip from my local BMW and it was $9. So the dealer might be the best bet if yours has them in stock
What's the name of the clip
@@OscarMartinez-qk6ry I believe it’s the exhaust actuator clip
@@CNGtech thanks man
Thanks great info
Thanks bro.. mine was gonna have me rip out the muffler sounding allncrazy like that..
I just checked my car and the clip fell out. Its just missing wowww
Mine isn’t broken but I just straight piped my car changing it anyways tho. I’ll send updates
Mine is straight pipes. But makes the noise. What did you do
@@deshon4599 If that clamp not broken, turn the car on floor it to open up the exhaust flap and pull out the flap connector
Thank you
Also remember to put your car in eco pro before installing otherwise the bolts won’t be aligned ‼️
Really? Explain further please.
2015 228i...noise is annoying ASFk😩.... thank you!!!!
