    In virtue of what could god not actualize the world where the creatures would always freely choose the good? I still am not grasping that.
    I really enjoyed this video! Thanks Danny!

      Evil in the world is necessary for a God of justice and mercy. How can there be no evil when God is the Savior of sinners?

    What do you think of LPOE as pointing out common inconsistencies in many theists rather than an inconsistency between concepts?

  • @ragnarokfps
    @ragnarokfps ปีที่แล้ว

    Hitchens said it best: "we have free will because of course, the boss insists upon it." This is kind of interesting because.. of 2 reasons. One is that it seems absurd to say that free will is something that can be granted, or imbued, or given, to agents, because the agents given it had no choice at all in whether they obtained it in the first place. So that's one reason why what hitchens said above is interesting. The second reason is because, the theist could say, yeah i agree, its absurd that an agent can be given free will, or the libertarian version of it, and that's why thats not a possible or rather "feasible" world that god coukd have created. A world where everyone freely chooses to do the good all of the time. So a theist could use this to defend against Mackie's possible world where all agent freely choose the good, but it also seems to undermine the very idea that god could grant libertarian free will in the first place. And Oppy talked about this at around the 30 minute mark, very briefly, in his own words.
    What do you think danny? I know this video is old, but i only recently discovered your channel and Doc Oppy

    So Oppy says LPOE isnt successful but maybe in the future, hold out hope guys! Keep the dream alive.

      Oppy is totally wrong about this. The LPOE works, maybe just not under the forms that it has been presented in academia

    • @DarwinsGreatestHits
      @DarwinsGreatestHits 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oppy has very high standards for a successful argument. As I understand Oppy, for an argument to be successful it has to be able to persuade all reasonable people. Since there are many reasonable theists that aren't persuaded by the LPoE, it's not successful.

      Hard to have a problem of evil when it turns out those things ought be done to satisfy gods ends.

    This is a Darth Dawkins. Graham Oppy is mistaken about my having two separate conversations with him. He also was mistaken That I discussed free will and determinism with him. That never happened. What did occur was a brief question and interaction about his rationale for Atheism and that was it. So he must be confusing me with some other person he interacted with online

      You’re the one that makes the claim about “debating highly educated atheist philosophers”
      Thanks for admitting that all that really happened is they slapped down your word salad.
      You’re a nameless faceless troll peddling your half ass understanding of philosophy in a dusty corner of the interwebs. You’re a joke.
