The no tears version from the actual episode is far superior. You can see that the Doctor is immediately devastated and in shock. Too numb to even cry. So it makes it more impactful when the tears come later.
Definitely the right choice to not go with this. His emptiness in the actual episode suits his character far better at this point and, I think, makes his regeneration in TEOT (where he does break down) more impactful.
i just came home, sat to eat, opened youtube for some video to watch and clicked on this..now I'm crying like a kid and my mom can't understand why...anyway this was beautiful...music hits me every time... thank you for this footage, other way i'll not see it

Definitely made the right choice. Having the finished edit with a wide empty room and less cutaways works a lot better. This just feels a bit too much.

Controversial opinion I hate seeing the Doctor cry because that's not what he does and it was out of character and it represents him wrong that he's human not alien and I'm glad they cut infact they should had cut out all the crying scenes with the Doctor yes he can get emotional and angry but most of them time he hides it in there.
