  • Time for Turkish street food! We took a food tour in Kadikoy Istanbul with Secret Food Tours and the food we had was some of... ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop - geni.us/9VHNx
Secret Food Tours Istanbul delivered because this was one of our favourite food tours ever and showed so much of Kadikoy!
Before we arrived in Istanbul, and well before we came to Turkey, we were told how good Turkish food was. It's difficult to know what the best Turkish street food to order is though, it can be a bit overwhelming in the Kadikoy district particularly because of the lack of English.. which we actually love though.
After a bit of research on the best Turkey food tours we found Secret Food Tours in Istanbul, but this one was specifically in the Kadikoy area on the Asia Side - where we're staying as we showed in our last few vlogs. Anyway, the food we tried was insanely good, so we can confirm that Turkish street food / the food of Turkey is next level. Everyone was right haha.
You can see the other food tours we've taken around the world, 15+ featured in this playlist: bit.ly/2GcRKrq

As a Turkish person just wanted to give you some information about the glass of water that comes with the Turkish Coffe. It is a method to understand if the guest who came to visit you is hungry or not. This method was found in the Ottoman Empire era. Turkish people didn't want to ask their guests if they were hungry in order to not to seem rude so they have found this way. When the Turkish Coffee and the glass of water comes if the guest drinks the coffee it means they are not much hungry, but if they drink the water and not the coffee they are hungry. When the guests drink the water, the host prepares a meal for the guest. This way helps the guest a lot to not giving them the burden of saying that they are hungry and asking for food. GREAT VİDEO ENJOYED IT !!

It’s actually funny to see that most of the tourists doesn’t like ayran or thinks it’s bad because almost every Turkish people loves ayran! We drink it with every meal: burgers, pastas, kebabs, salads etc.

Daneger and Stacey tourists like sweet yoghurt with fruits, they eat it like pudding. As a Turkish, ayran is my favourite drink and I can understand why they don’t like it. I wouldn’t eat salty pudding, too. We have sweet yoghurt with sugar and fruits but we mostly like to eat is salty. Yoghurt with garlic is the best with mantı 🥟 pasta 🍝 and some fried vegatables like eggplant, zucchini and green pepper. Yoghurt is a salty food for us. 😂

There are a lot of hidden places like that in İstanbul. I have been living in İstanbul for 10 years and i am still discovering new amazing little places. The beauty of the city comes from it's mysteriousness. You can find almost anything in İstanbul as long as you know where to look or know someone who does. Only then the true form of the city will start revealing itself which is actually a lot more authentic than expected

Turkey is diverse when it comes to food, west is more like greek and mediterranian, North is the scarcer food, with a lot of cheese, dough and bunch of local material with anchovies and all.
Southeast is more beef, chillis, peppers and roasted food.
    Inner Anatolia is all mixture.
Pide, for example is a North Anatolian dish. Most people find it too big for one person.
What I like about turkish restaurants, is that the one thing you order fills you up, it's quite big, and you really have a menu when you order a single food.
If you order a kebap, you'll get rice, some onions, veggies, with it as well, pretty much in all food it is consistent.

Lovely foodie episode. Was that breakfast including what we in the southern states call Grits? Looked yummy. Also the spicy rolled up pizza. Amazing antiques!!! My Kim is a antique horde :)
May have been a chilly day but from breakfast to strong cherry wine and that crazy rich spicy soup this ones a winner.

You guys really tried local things and did an impressive food tour. I’m Turkish and I’ve never eaten that soup you ate at the end 🤣🤣 I want to try it some day ahahah by the way I’m happy that you liked ayran because it’s part of most turkish meals. I suggest you eat Kumpir if you haven’t tried it yet.It is a street food and is basically baked potato stuffed with various ingredients inside. You can find lots of kumpir selling counters in Ortaköy. You can also try the dessert “Lokma” It is traditonally made with sugary liquid but nowadays it’s covered with chocolate and cream and is soooooo trendy. Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday here

Gaziantep is the food mecca in Turkey. Because of the geographic location they have so many types of kebabs and delicious as well as deserts. For healthier, lighter but again delicious food I would recommend west coast, cities bordering Aegean sea. Especially mezes are to die for.

mustaa there are lots of fresh fruits, vegatables and quality meat in Turkey. They know how to mix and cook them. Turkey also has very different traditional cuisines like Gaziantep cuisine, Bolu cuisine, Ottoman cuisine, Mediterranean, Aegean and Black Sea cuisines. Them all are different but delicious their own way. 😊
