MY MAN. Now that I'm hearing it, I can hear the voice hitting perfectly. Had that low tone thinking Dom, but you nailed it. My bad!! Absolutely Johnny and then Jesse screaming no no no no no! My apologies Family...didn't mean to disrespect the best!
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three T-66 turbos with NOS, and a Motec exhaust system.
@robbiecdiscgolf, overall a good analogy to help me with distance for sure!! But the facts are that a spoon engine is hi reving and high compressioned. Turbo would not go well with the engine set up. 🤓
Wow, Yeah, very informative and unlike other videos I’ve seen explaining the elusive “power pocket” and how to access it! I’ve been trying to tweak my throw since all the power pocket videos have come out, and this is the only one that actually explains clearly what is probably the most important part of the whole concept.. I always tried accelerating from the reach back and I usually failed due to rounding, but this seems to be the answer I needed, well done!
This is a good one. The upside down Y and head position is so key. Now I will add the slower pull-through, but really snap at the end. It makes complete sense as to why it seems so effortless by the pros. Nice 1!❤
Hey Robbie, we played together a couple years ago at the “compound” tournament. I’m not sure if you remember, but I just wanted to say that this is content you expect to receive behind a paywall. Excellent connection with head placement, acceleration, and shoulder rotation. I will definitely apply this check down next time I’m out at the course! Great work!
Update: I watched this vid 2 more times then went out after work to go over everything slowly. Then KAPOW!!! I threw a Pixel straighter and farther than ever before. I still have a lot to work on but Robbie C, thank you thank you thank you
These are advanced (ball) golf concepts. So glad you mentioned this. When I was struggling with driver, I watched a long hitting spanish dp world tour player explain this. With driver, he said let the club almost fall from the top and then in the last 1.5 feet before impact really step on it. This way, you maintain tempo and still really get that snap without "pulling " on the downswing. Really good stuff
Great Robbie! Very good explanation and I will find it helpful. I've been a personal trainer/sports performance coach (mostly hockey, LAX, and golf) This is new movement patterns for me and being RH hockey shooter I find myself on the other side of my body for back hand throws. The firing of NOS too soon was great. I can now see this in kinesiology terms. On the distant "over reach" reach back and firing too soon the shoulder complex (lats, rombiods, ....) fire and are no longer coiled to potential leaving the triceps (elbow extensors) to fire by themselves with weak support of the shoulder muscles through the power pocket. The what fires first through the rest of the sequence is still confusing. Every other rotational sport fires hips, torso, ....... perhaps abs first to support movement but that's my pilates background. This is for another lesson You are the best and I can't thank you enough.
Thank you so much for this information. Every beginner video needs updated to include this info. This is an ah ha moment for me. 1 adding juice way early 2 couldn't figure why I've started fly off the end of the tee pad. What you explained with the leaning is what I'm doing. Thanks. Have a great day.
Such a fresh take and brought to attention in a fun way. Not vouching before actually trying it, but it does sound promising. I often feel my arm just loosely flying ahead into the trebuchet motion, then more consuming the generated energy than increasing it. Makes sense that the whip must stay tight in order to stack the explosion of the arm on top of the momentum. Accelerating tip of the whip first at the start seems kinda obviously bad idea now that you say it. Kuoksa talks about stopping the rotation and somehow it seems similar to this as both are about creating the base for the arm to sling out instead of seeing it all as a continuous pull from max coil position.
Hey Robbie! Hope you’ve had a chance to throw the AM Stalker. I’ve recently been cracking open the answer to the ‘what starts the rotation’ question. Tristan Tanner and Aaron Gossage have the keys to the answer. For Goose, it’s when he locks his right knee. This naturally initiates the hip rotation that starts the whip crack. For TT, it’s trying to bring both knees together to achieve the same effect. I definitely feel a difference when I lock my right knee back. The rotation just happens without thought.
I am exactly with you on this. I was working on my form on my deck when I realized I was straining myself and too early in in the throw; so more optimally, I should spread out the exertion throughout and especially at the end of the throw
Great video. A couple months ago I was struggling with my form, and I just stopped reaching back. What I mean is, I spent about a week or two where the disc was never behind my left hip (RHBH). Lead to some good throws, and I gradually added reachback back into the throw, with more success than I’d had previously
Robbie, I spent most of last night laying in bed thinking about this exact issue. Am I not wasting potential by accelerating for a “longer” period? The timing of this vid couldn’t be more spot on.
The upper case Y idea is something I've tried to do from the start. In ball golf is your rotation should be around your spine and the spine should not move until the very end of the follow through. I carried that idea over from ball golf to disc golf. That way the disc stays in the same plane throughout the throw. Also the cannon analogy is a bit off. Even though the powder is ignited at the back of the barrel, the force of the explosion continues to accelerate the ball the whole length of the barrel.
In addition to accelerating at the right time, I also have to focus on keeping my front shoulder strong so I don't collapse the power pocket, while keeping my elbow loose, with strong grip pressure depending on the throw power. It's kind of a lot to think about, but starting to become second nature the more reps I do.
The rule with the head is “eye on the ball” like a batter, down and perpendicular to your shot. The back shoulder not the front shoulder is the thing that lets your head pull through.
Thank you sir. I am a 2 year player. Have struggled with power. Explains why I throw farther on stand still , everything is slowed down standing still. When I walk up it's so much less power . Timing is accelerated . Stand still is laged
Can you explain what you meant when showing the power pockets? at 10:30 You explain AB and Wiggins are outside the right pec - is that where they're accelerating from or?
Re: the pros, you can see this in action with the very slow / high FPS video where their forearm muscles become very flexed but not until they are in the deep pocket and want to fling out. Good thought/video :)
My guess as well is that with late acceleration, you are going to get a better advanced ratio because your spin will increase more than the speed. It is a double win if so!
This video came out when I was doing fieldwork. I tried this and I was getting more spin and distance. Now I need to work on the timing to get my accuracy down.
My problem with this thought is that when i try it i feel like I'm rounding more than pulling in a straight line. I'll have to get out to a field tomorrow and try it
Ur advice hasnt helped before...but this was gold and not bc of distance. As an mp50 player trying to do better at higher tier events my consistency blows. After doing fieldwork on this and then hitting the course, i feel this could b an aha moment. I normally get a udisc rating between 222 and 237. I just had 2 +245 rounds. Please let this b my new normal bc of u
Intro to a BIG DISTANCE video is a throw at 5.4 mph? Just jking, love what you do, keep it up. Not to offend anyone but when I first watched my form it look like the my entire left side had cerebral palsy ,while I was falling foward attempting to spin..
I did some field work this morning and really tried to focus on this. I just… I don’t know man. I feel like 300ft should be pretty easy and I’m not even touching 250. I’m getting snap, it’s ripping out. Not skying it, maybe not nose down exactly but pretty flat, not terribly nose up like I used to. Throws that look great always come up short. If that little 9yo girl can throw 300, I know I have the physical ability. Something isn’t adding up.
I am starting to wonder if you are spying on me!! --- I have been working on the net and I have a special overlay on my net for targeting. Anyway, I had been training for a month and I felt like it was awesome and smooth and would just fly >300' - right. So, finally I go out yesterday to my local and test what I can do. I was disappointed. Just barely 300' - most were 240' and up. So, I did improve a bit, 50' or so - but I knew while I was throwing yesterday that my arm was pulling and my hips were not spinning at the right time etc. etc. ad-infinitum/ad-nauseum. Thinking about it later and analyzing what I was doing - I would summarize it as this: - 1. I wanted distance so bad that I used muscle and was arm throwing - in essence totally ignoring all the good work I trained on.... - 2. I actually did what you are explaining in todays video - in that, I had lost most of my power before I could rotate - and when I did rotate it felt weak and insignificant. I am going to test again and this time I will not worry about the distance, but just do the form like I train and see what happens. (This is a "mind" thing - i.e., wanting to throw far and just scraping the form LOL) - I was throwing putters (Aviars) and then my entire bag. Not much of a difference between them (for me) - perhaps 30-50' extra. Clearly not what I expected. As an additional test, I threw from a standstill and hit the same distance as if I ran up. So, I knew something was wrong. Like you - I put a lot of science and analysis into my game/sport .. thing. 🤣
One quick tip for you Robbie, i noticed that you turn your head before hand goes through, try to keep it still, head follows hand, not opposite, im pretty sure the throwing speed increase 5mph more after that. Good video tho! 👊🏻
Correction on the FF1 quote. That was between Johnny Tran and Jesse during race wars. 😉
Yep! You're a true F&F fan lol

you set up the nos so that the turbo crams it into the spoon engines and then you break the speed of light and open a portal to Narnia. true story.
@robbiecdiscgolf, overall a good analogy to help me with distance for sure!! But the facts are that a spoon engine is hi reving and high compressioned. Turbo would not go well with the engine set up. 🤓
I Don't Have Friends, I Got Family. Thanks Robbie! Ill try this out Saturday and see what happens!

No mention of family when you referenced Fast and Furious. I am of disappoint

Thank you Robbie C your videos are understandable. And you illustrate them well.
Great topic and explanation… very helpful! Many thanks!
Extremely helpful. Thank you!
I'm taking this to the field tomorrow!
Thanks once again Mr. YT man

M&M and Fast and Furious..... what a video
One of your best videos, man. Thank you!
Right on, Robbie C. As they say in golf, "There can be only one fast moment in the swing." The motions and ideas in both sports are so similar.
In 3 years of watching u…prolly bets video yet for me! Thanks!
Again, awesome stuff here, keep it coming. Thanks coach I mean Mr youtubeman

This is got to be one of the single most best explanations I’ve heard of the power pocket… Thank you so much!

Super helpful, Robbie! Thanks for this video. My struggle exactly, and I think you nailed this.
I am exactly with you on this.
I was working on my form on my deck when I realized I was straining myself and too early in in the throw; so more optimally, I should spread out the exertion throughout and especially at the end of the throw
Great video, I enjoy your perspective and analogies. Even as I progress I find plenty of interesting bits of info in your content!
Great video. A couple months ago I was struggling with my form, and I just stopped reaching back. What I mean is, I spent about a week or two where the disc was never behind my left hip (RHBH). This video was helpful and was a good explanation of something I have been working on. My day is amazing. I hope that your day is fantastic as well.
Robbie, I spent most of last night laying in bed thinking about this exact issue. Am I not wasting potential by accelerating for a “longer” period? The timing of this vid couldn’t be more spot on.
I am going to put this to use later today because I know I have a decent reach back...this makes a lot of sense to me tho...thanks Robbie!
Thanks for the awesome content. I have been searching for a large net to practice with. What net are you using/are you using?

Yep, my biggest pulls have always started slow and then I WHIP those hips and let the arm follow through at the end.
Thank you sir. I am a 2 year player. Have struggled with power. Explains why I throw farther on stand still , everything is slowed down standing still. When I walk up it's so much less power . Timing is accelerated . Stand still is laged

I feel like you just analyzed my form without even seeing it. I know I do this when I end up hitting my off shoulder.
My guess as well is that with late acceleration, you are going to get a better advanced ratio because your spin will increase more than the speed. It is a double win if so!
Robbie check out Goose's/Ezra's vids the posted yesterday with Schmutz, he is crazy fast at the end of his throw, just like you are talking about.
This video came out when I was doing fieldwork. I tried this and I was getting more spin and distance. Now I need to work on the timing to get my accuracy down.

You could pull off a short mohawk.

This is very much like with golf…. Spine angle makes a difference.

There's another issue here though.
You talk way to much. Get to the point, please.
