  • The aftersales and technical support staff at Active have been involved over the past few months in reviewing and auditing our pressure washer performance across multiple feedback loops. This led to us evaluating a sample of return pressure washers to assess the key components causing customers issues in their day-to-day application of Active pressure washers.
    This video highlights the findings of our testing and the steps taken to resolve the problems to ensure better durability of the Active VE52. In addition, we reveal how this has influenced the design and development of our next generation pressure washer the upcoming Active 2.0!

    I really love how you guys address concerns and overall how a customer may respond to a product. Some companies would be a little more passive aggressive or frustrated but I personally like the "that's just part of the game mentality". Just shows that you guys know what the deal is, you're not brushing it off but accepting the outcome regardless and moving forward trying to make things better and sell great products.

    Very transparent video appreciate that. I have the unit and have the issue with it cycling all the time. Really do respect your team for being so open and honest. Just didn’t wanted to deal with the return rate process but truly respect your transparency.

    As a engineer for a large auto manufacturer it's good to see the transparent nature and methodology to your refinement plans and objectives as well as current state issue of what has happened with the earlier modules.     Think it’s great to see a company to be transparent but not only that, correct the past mistakes and make their product better.
    I purchased the Active from OG that was fitted for a premium package. Within a month my machine started to surge. After speaking to Active support and providing a video of what it was doing, they determined it failure that couldn’t be fixed. They sent a replacement and absolutely no issues since. I use the replacement at least twice a month to maintain my 2 vehicles. Active did not want the machine back, they said it cannot be fixed.
    Really appreciate this company. I can see myself upgrading PW in a year or 2 and the first place I will look to is Active.

    Appreciate the transparency and the thorough explanation of the issues. Saved me a lot of time hunting around online and trying different things to troubleshoot. Just bought a 50ft hose and realized that I'm experiencing the surging issue. Kind of disappointed, but was able to confirm the unit still works fine with the OE hose, so I guess I will just use that and cart the unit around my car for the time being. Good to know conclusively that is the issue though. I'll be on the lookout for the prosumer model when it comes out "later this year". Thank you again for addressing these issues head-on and for being so thorough with explanations of symptoms and causes!

      Thanks for your understanding. As we’ve discussed elsewhere, the original design was never meant to be used with a 50ft hose. Some people have issues, some do not. But we have evolved the product through careful engineering changes to minimize the occurrence. We’ve learned a lot and have absolutely incorporated changes to all of our products.

I have used on vehicles, lawn mowers, garden equipment, you name it. I don't know how I got along this long without it. Thanks for making a fantastic product.     Hey James I really appreciated the straight forward and honest way you addressed the return problem. I destroyed my Ryobi pressure washer last year and was just beginning to search for a replacement. 30 minutes after watching your video I purchased a Active VE52 from Amazon.     James and Active have been awesome! Unfortunately my VE52 is one that developed the surging issue. I'm confident that it will be warranty exchanged for the 2.0 when they're available and I'll continue to point anyone who asks what pressure washer to buy to Active due to the open, honest nature of Active, the fantastic two year warranty and great performance at 1/4 the cost that rivals the AR Blue Clean AR630-TSS . Keep up the good work James. I think most of us are sticking by Active for the long run!

    I had purchased the VE52 about maybe 2 years ago off Amazon. At first I would experience the surges . And just the other day it stopped working all together in middle of washing a car. But I must say after watching your video. I'm strongly considering purchasing your new and improved 2.0 .

    I received my CAT last summer because no VE52’s were available and I love it! Use a 50’ hose and short gun on it and love it! If you need testers for your new short gun with a swivel I am here to help and a total fan of your work. Keep doing what you’re doing very impressive stuff!

      @@Meeeks They sent me a grey Active model as a replacement. I tested both. The new Active worked perfectly with either set of attachments, stock or aftermarket. My prior CAT (retested) continued with problems with aftermarket parts, but still worked perfectly with the the stock hose/gun setup. The CAT design was slightly better aesthetically but the Active versions seemed to be the only versions getting upgrades... they have a new V 2 on the market now...

    Like others, I really appreciate the transparency here. I just got my VE-52 last spring, and used it all summer without any issues, but if the next generation offers even better performance, and is still reasonably priced, I have no issues upgrading when it becomes available. Looking forward to seeing more information on it as we move forward.

    I’ve never heard a big store brand come out with anything like this and admit their first version had issues. But most importantly, is how they are working to move forward and fix them. I will pull the trigger, or hit the not LED switch on this model.

    i received the simoniz variant as a christmas gift and after a couple uses the pump started leaking oil.. i just ordered a new one under warranty for free but im afraid that its gonna have problems again is there any way i can get upgraded to the 2.0 ?

I was provided the Active version as a replacement, which I believe is considered the budget option per market prices. What am I missing out on (besides CAT good looks)? At least the new Active didn't have the surging problem when I tested with my aftermarket gear, it worked well.

    I notice with mine it doesn’t surge, rather does not shut down. The psi builds up 2-3k at this point. Usually takes multiple trigger pulls to get the pump to shut off.

    I like the transparency here and I was wondering what was going on. Mine works perfect, but many of my viewers told me of these issues. I have been using mine twice a week with a 50 foot hose and after almost a year it cycles a little more than normal sometimes, but still good.     What would make it even more robust, is to have it run somewhere between 2100-2700+ psi accessories such as a surface cleaner or reliability use smaller nozzle tips for stone/patio cleaning at that higher psi (at reduced gpm), and have it under 15amps, but still be able to run the larger nozzles to reduce pressure back down to 1000-1100 psi at 1.8-2.0+GPM. I would pay more for this because I can justify it better when I can do cleaning around the house and also wash the cars instead of it being just a dedicated auto pressure washer. The reason I mentioned this is because some reviews in the past saw the ve52 unit start to surge when a 1.75 nozzle was put on even though it did reach 1800+ psi.

      Thank you for your feedback! Unfortunately we are restricted in terms of development of having a pressure washer that can fit both spec ranges due to the nature of the product having to be a 120V machine. Also, there are concerns around wobble plate angles which will limit functionality (greater angle means more flow, smaller angle means more pressure). This cannot be adjusted on the go. It may also result in further reliability issues.
      The Active VE52 is designed to hit a 1000 PSI at 2 GPM based on a metric called impact force. The impact force calculation is highest when setting the pressure washer at our spec, given the limitations specified above. We know this unit will not come close to a gas unit, but our testing has shown great cleaning performance around the house even compared to pressure washers rated at 2000 PSI due to our increased flow capabilities.
      The only way to tackle this is to have our pump fitted to a digital motor to have variable pressure and flow. (Although this may result in a significantly higher price point)
      Note: fitting a 1.75 nozzle to the VE52 will cause the unit to surge as it is reaching its peak pressure. The pump is designed to cut off as a warning that it is being over worked.

    8/27/22. Just received my ve52. In stock configuration (stock hose, wand, 40deg/3.7) my gage is reading just under 800, call it 780psig. After switching out to 40deg/3.0, gage was reading 1000psig.
    After installing 50ft flexzilla hose w/ mtm wand w/ 40deg/3.7, massive surging that eventually went away, gage was reading just under over 700psig. Swapped it out for the 40deg/3.0 and pressure went up to just over 900psig, with every release of trigger causing pressure to jump to 2200psig.
    Thoughts??

    James - for the 2.0 design housing, is there enough room to include noise dampening - foam or backing into the housing? I have my VE52 mounted onto a shelf for auto detailing and I had to put the unit onto vibration isolating blocks and some noise dampening against the wall to avoid making the family mad haha.

      Unfortunately it wasn’t designed for sound deadening. There is also the issue of air flow and motor cooling. So is suggest not trying something yourself! we have one more unit under development right now that utilizes a different type of motor, that is much heavier, lasts much longer and and is much quieter. But it will be significantly more money and more for commercial use. Stay tuned.

    Currently have a Karcher 1700 cube that has a surging issue...had to call in warranty claim and they are going to send a new one. I am looking to upgrade and am considering this model. Is the current inventory being sold with all the fixes that were stated in this video? Thanks.

      Hello, thank you for your question. The pressure washers are meant to be maintenance free pumps by design. Since the pump is repurposed to change the single stage to a dual stage valve, it cannot be accommodated to the old pump.     My 2.0 only runs for about 10 minutes and then I smell a burning and it shuts off. I love the unit just have to send back to get this issue resolved, I’ve only used the until 4-5 times.

      Since Simoniz operates under Canadian Tire, we have limited information on their returns and user feedback. Even though that might be the case, all updates on the Active VE52 units have also been implemented in all Simoniz Platinum 1800 units.

      We haven't tested the Active 2.0 with a gravity fed water system so we're not sure yet on how it would perform. These units are designed to operate with your regular garden hose but with the increasing amount of questions that we get regarding this topic, we'll consider conducting a test and see how it performs.

      The issues you hear about on the older VE52 only apply to the Simoniz Platinum 1800 if you intend to use a 50’ or longer hose, which is not really recommended. That said, most Simoniz Platinum 1800 in inventory at store level should have the revised micro switch which reduces those motor surge issues. As the data tells us, we don’t have an issue with pumps.

    So have all these changes been implemented in the latest VE52 units? I'm most concerned about the dual-stage switch; is that only heading to the 2.0 when it's available?

    I just watched a review video and the pump was surging. It was all due to using smaller tip that was not included and was hitting 1800 psi and cutting off the pump. Not a pump issue, operator issue.

      Thanks for your response! I think it will be helpful to a lot of users who are experiencing issues and thinking its their unit! Unfortunately, there is no way to engineer compatibility with every variation of office / nozzle.

    If we know there is a problem and solution for the surging, why not provide a fix for that to all of us users who are having this issue? I have gone through three of these with the surging problem existing and now working with my fourth and I am afraid this problem will arise again.

First thing I’d check to see is if you are using aftermarket accessories and if they are properly fitted to the machine? That could save you a lot of headaches as you should not be seeing 4 units with the same issues. Let us know how we can help.

      @@ACTIVEPRODUCTS yes i am using a 50ft hose with a mosmatic handle. The problem is the cycling of the pump which then builds up to much pressure and cracks the cover plate.

    People make comments about transparency. Funny all these publications come out and audits come out after TONS of people buy their machine and it fails way under the expected lifetime of the machine. Seeing the price, one of course expects for it to not last long term, but less than 20 washes and dead? Common now. Won’t get me a second time. First time shame on me.

      Our efforts to provide transparency and show defectives and customer complaints shouldn’t be confused with actual in the field quality and/or defective rates. Statistically speaking, based on returns and complaints as a percentage of overall sales, overall quality remains good - of course, we wish it was perfect but that’s just not possible.     I would say move away from these big box dealers (target, canadian tire, walmart, etc, lowes, Rona, etc) - as most of these stores clientele will source these stores for their Return guarantee policies to wash a desk or house siding on the weekend - pack it all up and go return it as " not working" "didnt really do what i expected" etc.
    rebrand the new new version and get it into the hands of the Pros, home/product enthusiasts via a seperate channel. get away from the "walmart product" mentality and people.
    just my two cents.

      Hello Ron, the VE52 is a light weight unit with a specific design characteristic. We didn't feel at the design process that wheels were appropriate for it given customers were more inclined to mount or shelf this product.

    It's commendable to admit the flaws, but the reviews mostly cite poor customer service. That's the real problem imo

      We try our best to respond to the customers needs. What we noticed is that a part of customers who weren't issued a warranty were using the units commercially when our units aren't built to be used in that environment. Similarly, because of the interest to modify and use third-party accessories caused some issues with our units (which we issued warranty to an extent). We are working to better every aspect of our company and your feedback gives us a clearer understanding of what needs to be improved on. Thank you!

    Purchased one in Canada return the next day due to surging You guys really messed up with this one I'll never buy this product again. Not much to an electric pressure washer and all the components on this product has a problem, power switch, and pump. And all you guys can do is give excuses for poor R&D.
