    I’m 62 and only 5’3. Raced Moto and big 6. Quit riding at 55. I just picked up 2018 390 RRS. 2” lowered and low seat. Can tiptoe. The balance of this bike is great. Very easy bike to ride. Suspension works great. Clutch pull is easy. I put a 14 tooth sprocket on my bike before I rode it. The bike is an absolute tractor. My buddies took me on a ride that I would say was intermediate level and the bike handled it superb. A lot better than my old body could. I am looking forward to many more rides ahead. Can’t go wrong with this bike. Keep it fun! I’m back

    Great review, the 390 does seem to be the pick of the Beta 4 strokes. I actually have the Beta 480 RR in Australia. It’s great as an Adventure bike. Good on the trails and great on the highways too. Buy a Beta, you won’t regret it. Mine has almost 10,000 kilometres on it after two years and hasn’t missed a beat! Very reliable, huge fun and great quality!

    Excellent review. Thanks!! Although the KTM 300 is designed to be ridden fast without being on the pipe. It can lug all day long and is meant to be able to do that unlike most 2 strokes. That is why it is dubbed the 3 stroke. It can lug and it can rip. Excellent bike but I am looking for a small, dirt bike sized, adventure bike for a mostly off road trip in Idaho. Apparently the counter shaft doesn't wear out on the Betas while being used on the highway like other bikes do. That is a huge plus for those unloved road sections. Once again, great review! Appreciated.

    Great video, I have a 2010 KTM 400XCW that I love and would guess that it is very similar to your 390. Great size engine for technical trail riding, the grunt of a 450 but softened up a bit. What I really like about mine is it doesn't flame out at low rpm like some other four stroke bikes I've had in the past. KTM needs to bring back the 400, if not I guess I'll have to get a Beta next.

    So congrats on finding a bike you like ! ! ! Looks sweet. One thing I'd like to disagree with is that the 300 isnt meant to be on the pipe all the time and thats the point. If you watch my vids you'll see quite a bit of both types of riding. On the pipe or lugging it. Thats the beauty of the 300 2 stroke. When you need traction and smooth torque without the stalling tendencies or weight of a 4 stroke you have it, but when you realize you screwed up and need instant power you have it too. It is a bit of a split personality thing and not for everyone I agree, but to say if you ride a gear high to avoid being on the pipe you are doing it wrong I would have to disagree. Even Jarvis does that on his 300 and I doubt he is on the wrong bike. 300's are about smooth low end power, with the option of a ripping topend when needed / wanted. All that being said if I wanted to just go fast I would ride a 350 4 stroke as they are more forgiving and easier to ride very agressive! I like technical and slow riding and so I ride a 300.

      You have to be a crazy person to like two-strokes. I'm not getting the RR300 because you have to work too hard to have fun. I don't want to be locked into 1/8th throttle for 95% of my riding and I like engine braking. Once that power band hits, the RR300 screams and violently breaks traction. The 390 feels like it has constant power and torque, engine braking, and the top end has a mild amount of too much power. Also street legal in 50 states so it can be ridden anywhere a car can go. Best bike on the planet for me.

I'll never be a Jarvis, Webb, or heck even Mac lol but I love how much inspiration my 300 gives. Its made me a rider that used to look at a slippery rocky uphill and think "no way" and now I'm like "yeah this bike will get me up it , and it will even make me look like I almost know what I'm doing" lol ! @@jacksonbuck7481 It really sounds like you have 0 time on a 300RR and even less time understanding them. You can change the pv screw and make the powerband the way you like it. I rode the 390 and the 300 one right after the other and the 300 is just as controllable and easy to put around as the 390. On the flip side, you have to be crazy not to like BOTH!.

      Mid-South Outdoor Life - My thoughts as well. I went to the Beta Demo Day at Gorman, California, mid 2019. I too had a hard time to fine neutral on all the Beta's I test rode. I did ride the 125 250 430 Race Edition and 390RR S. Love the 390, 430 for my type of riding. Only in a sand wash or air time could I really feel the weight difference between the 2 stroke verse 4 stroke, mostly on the front end.

    Nice to here from a Beta 4 stroke owner. I love the street legal ability too. I know I would love this bike but I am leaning towards the 500 as I am over 240lbs when geared up with hydro-back pack and I seem to be riding more often in the nearer to me sand hill terrain. When it comes to hills and sand you can easily be wanting more power, yet I think/hope in Rain Mode the big 500 could still be a tractable beast even in the technical slippery stuff. I really want to try one. I hope to get on a demo list for the 2019's next spring.

That, plus smooth and easy to ride...which sounds like you've definitely confirmed! KTM 350 also sounds great, but Beta just seems like exactly what I'm going after. Ride on. Fish on.

I'm 5'8 and I think I'll be ordering this with a 1" lowering kit. It's this or the 300rr. I saw your 300rr video. If I'm truly honest with myself, I am probably more suited for the 4 stroke. I haven’t read any comments on here yet so I’ll say.. your comment about “guys lugging 2 strokes is high gears cuz they can’t ride on the pipe” dude you are missing the mark on that. I had Honda CR250 2 strokes. They don’t have low end. You have no choice but to ride in the power band unless u put a heavy flywheel on. I own a BETA 300. I ride in low RPM cuz it has power there. If I need top end I have it. That’s where Beta has done a great job. On slow speed terrain. Rocks, technical riding. And unlike you. I prefer the 2 stroke feel. I know 4 strokes are good but guess what? I still Jones for the violent power. If I want it it’s there. Yes my power valve is out all the way. I’m old now so I don’t rip like a 25 year old. That’s where beta covers for me. That’s why I sold my CR. I’d never use a recluse or whatever right handed clutch. Learn how to ride it’s a skill. I don’t mean you necessarily. Isn’t riding, learning how to conquer terrain part of the fun of it. Shit, why ride at all. Just play video dirt bike riding. Think what you’ll miss. You can’t get hurt, won’t see the outdoors, Won’t get dirty, no beers after, no buddies talking riding. Sorry man. But I believe recluses are lame. Have a nice day

      @BrodyHenry96 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mid-South Outdoor Life you need to spend some hours on a KTM 300 or a beta 300. Both of those bikes have awesome low end torque and the power band is not like moto cross bikes at all. Way lighter and more nimble than a 4 stroke plus maintenance is nothing on a 2t compared to 4t. I'd chose my 300 over a 450 anyday. Seriously man spend a day on a 300 you won't regret it.

    I'm considering a beta. I would go with a 390rr-s but I want to ride 65 long distance on road. How's she do on road?
    Rant- I love 2 strokes! My favorite bike (my first) was a 1996 WR-250; it had that that 2 stroke hit but still came on smooth and had enough torque to do anything I needed (wide ratio + heavy flywheel) My RM250 on the other hand, I barely could ride it in the woods despite it having a linear powerband and lots of torque (tall MX 1st gear)

    With stock gearing, how fast and how long a distance can you ride on the street comfortably (for the motor) for extended periods. I have been ADV riding for a long time, started with KTM950 due to I needed to ride 2K miles from Philly to Utah to do my adventure rides. That got old after awhile so me and my riding buddies downsized to Suzuki DR650's...cheap, dependable, heavy uggh, nice low end grunt for easy off roading with smaller by one tooth countershaft sprocket with short occasional sections of technical riding that we sweated and muscled though. Even with smaller front sprocket can still do 65mph on road for extended periods and can still handle some technical spots with clutch slipping. For 95% of our riding the DR has been fine, not inspirational but smooth and dependable. 6 of us shared a single unit garage rental in Grand Junction CO where we kept the bikes for the annual 2 week ADV ride. Now I need a lighter bike, less than 300lb wet that can also do some occasional "road work", riding for a few hours on the asphalt between trail heads. I'm willing to suffer a little physically on the asphalt slogs but I don't want to damage the motor and I prefer not to mess around changing front sprockets just for the asphalt and then reinstalling lower tooth sprocket when I get to the trail. I'm thinking the WR250R and 390RRS are the front runners due to weight although they are both very different. I don't like that the WR power is in the high revs thus the 390RRS is so much more attractive to me...just wondering what speed the engine can comfortably run at on the pavement for an hour or two occasionally. Most usage will be back roads at 55 mph or less and mostly easy trail riding. I assume Beta can do 55 mph for long periods but is that about it for a long haul? or can it run at 65 mph for an hour??? The higher performance of the Beta will be appreciated but I'm not targeting that, I am targeting weight and that's what brings me to the high priced Beta and the performance just comes along with the low weight, high price.

    • @timhardman4764
      @timhardman4764 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, I was kinda afraid that was the case. Have you used it on the road and if yes, what is a comfortable cruising speed for it in 6th gear? Maybe the new honda CRF450L is a better product for my use, still under 300 lbs wet...supposedly and street legal. I haven't seen gear ratios for it so don't know about highway cruising speeds. Glad to finally see the Japanese getting into street legal 450's that have some decent suspension and peppy motor for ADV riding...not racing. Hoping Yam, Kaw and Suz follow soon with competing products.

    I can totally relate on the controllable and easy to ride points. Modern 2 & 4 strokes, as they get "racier" are harder to control & more temperamental. Like you, I chose bikes at the other end of the spectrum, that others would consider underpowered play bikes, BUT bikes that motored right thru the nasty stuff while the track bikes stalled, over revved, lurched uncontrollably, and generally wore the riders plumb out in the beginning of the ride. You said more bikes should be like this, and actually there are quite a few, and I've had them all! If you are on FB check out my page Hawaii Trail Rider. Good review for sure!!!

    quite the critic. every company has to pick their battles on where to spend money. smart companies spend less money on components that are the most subject to preference, style and comfort. Seats, mirrors, and handle bar components are always the first to go on almost any motocycle. Beta seems to dump cash on nearly everything else. and PS I have 11k miles and counting on those mirrors. They’re light and adjustable for a reason.

    Point of the video is all right , only thing I do not like is technical point. The camera is crap, it somewhere on your chest or stomach and it is terrible to watch. I am in your age I do have the same style of riding.

    You lost me at the 1:21 mark... if you think KTM fit and finish is above all Japanese dirtbikes, you're crazy or simply ignorant.
    But good job at quickly losing all credibility!

      I've had plenty of Japanese dirt bikes but I switched over to Beta And KTM a few years ago way ahead of Japanese
