Hi again everyone, thank you all for suggesting this video, it was a lot of fun to put together! After all of this, I'm curious, which do you think is better? OG or TV? Was there anything I missed and anything you wanted to note? Anything I should cover next? 👀 Share your thoughts and start some discussions in the comments! I hope you all enjoyed this analysis of New Romantics! And like before, NO FIGHTING OR YOU WILL BE SENT TO SWIFTIE JAIL. HAVE FUN!

@bebealyssamae6742 You just might not have much knowledge on musical production and listening to small details that makes the song become what they are
Woah this was the best Taylor's Version comparison I've seen! All the others were a lot less technical and didn't really *show* the viewer what they were talking about. But with yours, all the examples were so clear and informative.
Thank you so much! This seriously means a ton to me since this video was months in the making for the writing process and creation of visual elements. One of the things I'm most passionate about is sharing details about music and videos with other people, and I wanted to share the details in these songs in a way that people could easily understand and visualize, so I'm really glad that it came across well! I love experiencing new discoveries in music and I'm glad I could share it with you!!
I think comparing the OG and the TV version of Out Of The Woods is also a good video topic. Both versions are produced masterfully, but for some reason I find the TV's sound more epic.
I think it might have something to do with her getting to work with the same producer for both the OG and the TV, notice how the tracks where the producers change from version to version are the ones suffering most changes
Haha! As objectively as I tried to make this video, I will say that I personally also enjoyed the crowd vocal AHH's from the original song! It sounds more like a full crowd chanting the hook instead of the more obvious vocal doubles that sound like one person recorded multiple takes in Taylor's Version.
Thank you so much!! Those are the exact elements I was hoping to achieve in this video, and it really makes me so content knowing that people are enjoying and learning from this! I would love to do more of this stuff in the future!

The way she sings in the original seems firmer but also natural. It seems like she is singing with her voice the way it is. In the re-recording, Taylor seems to sing not naturally, but rather through techniques to achieve something similar to what she did in the original one. But anyways, the way she sings seems good to me and flows very well throughout the song.
That's a good observation! I believe she was trying to match that same energy from before which takes some technique to try to replicate. It would be cool to see an acoustic version or something that feels very free flowing! (it may already exist, but I haven't seen it 😂. I'm more than open to any suggestions!)
I legit love this video so much! It was so well written and the visuals were SO helpful. New romantics is my favorite song of all time and now I finally understand why I HATED the tv! Thank you!
That makes me really happy to hear, I'm glad this analysis helps! i first noticed this issue on red tv and people thought I was crazy, especially the night and day difference of the original IKYWT and WANEGBT to her recordings. anyway, people have different tastes and i just prefer the original one
Same thing with Sparks fly from speak now. Sad part is it was the song I was looking forward the most but it's just so dead, the beat drop and her voice tone killed the enchantment
Aside from Fearless, the original versions of the other albums were much better. Though, I love both versions of Speak Now but I get why some people don't like the Taylor's Version
Excellent work! I've picked up on some of these just listening casually, but to see the side by side like this is awesome, your content is so educational! You're amazing. I've shared this with all my friends.

Can you do Out of the Woods? I honestly believe it is the best re-recording in 1989 for adding some snare in the interludes after each chorus. And the vocal layering at the last chorus is so top tier and more present
Out Of The Woods TV is genuinely so much better than the original it's crazy 😭 even crazier when you think about how it's surrounded by so many subpar interpretations of the other 1989 songs

Yeah. To me for the most part they sound more "commercial" or something like that. I think there is such a thing as too much cleaning sharpening of tracks. There are a few that are improved. Out of the woods, wildest dreams, and this love I like better!

this breakdown is genuinely so incredible and well done!! if you are taking suggestions i think ‘haunted’ would a great one to compare, the percussion is vastly different in the TV!
This video is very interesting & well produced. I can tell you have a lot of background on this topic :) I appreciate your wisdom & insight! I def. prefer the original version but all the same, Taylor Swift is a very lyrical artist over vocal imo, that’s not to say she isn’t extremely talented in singing too but her lyric- writing is exceptional (that’s why her newest album is titled after her poetry)! thank you for the video and all of your insight!!
Thank you so much! I get to finally put my music background to work! 😂 I agree as well, she's a talented vocalist, but her skills really shine in her songwriting. She's been known as an incredible songwriter!
I think the TVs are significantly more balanced than the originals. Honestly, it is really impressive how close they got every sound considering that hundreds and hundreds of hardware knobs and settings that cannot be recalled had to be re-created and re-mixed.
That's true! The bass is actually a good example of that. In the chorus of the original, the bass is much wider and fills up a ton of the room. In the TV version, it stays more in the center and it follows a very balanced sound which is similar to more cleanly produced pop records today. The original versions wider sound and dirtier percussion gives it more of the energetic feel, but the TV has a cleaner balance, and overall there are different tonal differences. I agree though, it's very impressive that they got that close through a recreation!
This must explained what I hadn't notice the OG version of New Romantics at all, while fell in love with the TS version immediately! Though I cannot hear the difference for some of the sections, still, admire your effort for us ordinary people to admire great music!
i prefer the tv because it sounds a lot fuller. however in the tvs it sounds like the instruments are jumbled up and they dont have much individuality, almost like the instrumental is static with a melody. you can really hear what im talking about in this song, 22 (especially when the 2nd verse starts and main synth in the chorus), i knew you were trouble, all you had to do was stay, and how you get the girl.
Great points! There's a chance that some of the melody lines like the vocals could have been added in after the main instrumental was recreated, resulting in that sound you described
I might disagree with style tv, because the harmonies in the old one is more prominent than the tv one, the synths are also highlighted unlike the tv, there's missing sounds that the old one have
@@anthonylara9725 What about it sounds the same to you? The guitar doesn't have that bite, the instrumental doesn't have a build, and she pulled a Gracie with her vocals and having a lisp. I'm not complaining but there are clear differences.
It would be interesting to see a video like this for "successful" re-recording such as Out Of The Woods, or ones that are a "mixed bag", such as Wonderland.
New Romantics was one of my favs from 1989, now it isn't (I still don't get used to it..) The og version has a lot more of emotional deliver on Taylor's Vocals, it is more energetic, that's what I love about that song. In Taylor's Version I can't feel the same energy, it's a little more calm, but enough to make a difference. Also, I don't like the crowd in the TV, I feel like children are screaming at me. I know if I listen to it more often I'll get used to it (like Style) but the crow sreams really annoys me. Also, the intro is "low" compared to the orginal and that also takes out points from the "energetic song" I really like the new technique she uses, TV sounds a lot more professional but it took away a lot of energy from my point of view. New Romantics is still a GREAT song and an anthem in any version tho. I'm not expert in music but really understood your video, great explanation and it is so complete, love it!
please do style and wonderland! also, if you're willing to go beyond 1989, i'd love to see the differences in enchanted and haunted from speak now! those always struck me as so different. amazing video! gained a swiftie sub 🫶🏻
Thank you so much!! Wonderland and Out of the Woods seem to be some popular picks for the next one, so that may happen soon! I can look into the ones you mentioned too! I'd definitely like to explore more of Taylor's Versions!
man, these are some insane visuals, really beautiful. you should probably start uploading at 4K or 1440p though (even if the raw video isn't, just upscale it.). youtube's compression killed a lot of details, this took away a little bit from the visual experience.
Amazing quality content! I feel like there is space for both versions, but I prefer the TV - it sounds more alive, more energetic. When I first heard it, I felt like there was an extra beat. It's weird cus I prefer the TV as a whole, but also your dissected version of the OG.
There's a part in the bridge where she goes "Please, leave me stranded", and on "Leave", the pitch correction is VERY audible. That word is sung quite breathy and breathy sounds are much more apparent when pitch corrected. All studio versions of songs are pitch corrected to an extent because they're supposed to be the best recording possible, but with a sound like that it would've been better to re-record the line until it was at the right pitch raw or close enough so the pitch correction isn't as detectable Ps. I'm a huge Taylor fan and in no way am I trying to undermine her, and yes this is very nit-picky, but it bothers me every time I listen to the song and I'm surprise to see details like that slip through the cracks at the level Taylor works at
With Red TV it was less noticeable, as the only main affected songs were 22 and IKYWT mixing wise, and All too well TV having a vocal glitch, 1989 TV felt rushed. Style with the weird guitar, the clipping and mixing in New romantics and main, most absurd thing: the entire album besides the 2 released songs back then (WD and This Love) was released with a high pitched noise which was really bad and noticeable at about 15khz. They removed it after but you can still hear part of it on the dolby atmos for out of the woods in the end and in You are in Love. Let's not also forget those weird ticks in shake it off on the second verse. The lack of quality control was surprising since well, it's Taylor. Max Martin not returning should not even be felt since all his elements were existent and could be used for remaking the songs, what they dropped the ball on was mixing and mastering.
Great video, thanks for bringing such a sharp level of analysis. Beyond the differences between the OG and TV productions, I think what makes New Romantics TV such a disaster is all the bugs left in the final master. The metronome clicks and mic feed in the intro for example and the horrible mix… the productions are far too loud in the chorus and totally cover her voice. New Romantics was my favorite song of her entire discography and I was looking forward to rediscovering it with the TV, but it was a cold shower. I've gone back to the OG version now to save myself from hating this song
my gripe with New Romantics TV is that the vocal tracks have a bit of delay, like it's not exactly on the beat, like a few milliseconds off. I don't know if the vocal tracks on the original are sharply right on the beat or not, but the difference is very noticeable for me and I don't like it. I have the same issue with Wildest Dreams TV. sorry if the terms I'm using sound weird, not a music producer. I feel like I'm crazy because I've never seen anyone else point this out.
That's actually a great point! Vocals are one of those things that are crazy hard to replicate, especially after a long span of time, so her vocals are definitely different in the timing, especially when she hangs onto certain words or phrases longer or shorter than the original.
again, I'm not knowledgeable in music production, but I feel like it's not about how she's singing that's different, it's about how her vocal tracks being placed on the song by the producer? or mixer? like the whole vocal track feels slightly delayed to me.
The TV is still listenable and can vibe on it its just the Drum patterns like Just like you said the block are way more present its like descending faster rather than OG which has The symbals and clicks ang present and the right tempo
As somebody who doesn’t understand anything of musical production I can describe it the same way as Style, the originals have more echo and reverb And the Tvs are more polished vocally, or more clear maybe?
That's a great analysis! The originals definitely have more of that roomy sound which sounds like an environment you could bring to a party! The new version has a more standard feel which sounds more like a polished version meant for the 2020's, but the old version had that energetic space that a lot of 2010's songs had
taylor said at the Minneapolis eras tour that she doesn’t mind which one we listen to, there’s no pressure! :’) Taylor still gets paid for listening to the OGs on streaming, if you prefer them
could you do this with shake it off? there’s a random click on the second verse that annoys me so much and i’m not sure if it’s just me or the production
now do this for Blank Space cuz tv instrumental feels so flat and like it's missing some instruments. Also, compare I Know Places cuz that is the best re-recording we got from here ever.
also the problem with remaking these is the time difference cause it was almost a whole ten years later and just the way music is produced has changed and ig just the timeliness of it just because pop music has changed so much if that makes sense like pop music today isnt made or produced the same as it was then, also because it just didn’t have the same producers so it just wasnt the same. it wasnt bad and i really like the TV but its missing the rawness and nostalgia that the og gives
I personally love the instrumental production in Taylor's version and also Taylor's vocals too my only issue with the new version of the song is those "AHHH," I like more the "AHH"s in original than to the Taylor's version, it really sounds like children's crowd screaming that...
i think the only version i can listen to completely without wanting to turn it off is fearless but all the others just have moments that make you wonder why they did that lmao. toughts and prayers abt the reputation version 🤐
My main issue woth TV was that you can just barely hear her over the music in the chorus 😭 it’s my favorite part of the song and yet tou can barely hear her vocally
I have a two step process with Logic Pro! I import the tracks into Logic Pro, use a Stem Splitter function to isolate the tracks, and then I take a lot of time recreating certain sections through those isolations to ensure an accurate recreation that can be enhanced/modified/emphasized to really show the differences between different sounds. Maybe I can make a YT Short on it soon!
I prefer TV it’s so bright the song and the vibes she brought to the album especially the clear color blue and smile of her cover like if it aint call 1989 it will definitely be called New Romantics and that’s how she delivered what she intended at the first time she writes it however the og sounds like a nostalgia now if i listen to it

I think he has a style video on his channel already, from about a year ago
The original is literal pop perfection and could not be duplicated. Period
great video❤so professional ❤
man, these are some insane visuals, really beautiful. you should probably start uploading at 4K or 1440p though (even if the raw video isn't, just upscale it.). youtube's compression killed a lot of details, this took away a little bit from the visual experience.
You got a new subscriber today! that's a amazing video
Thank you for the support and for watching this video!!
Amazing quality content! I feel like there is space for both versions, but I prefer the TV - it sounds more alive, more energetic. When I first heard it, I felt like there was an extra beat. It's weird cus I prefer the TV as a whole, but also your dissected version of the OG.
love this video, I definitely noticed the changes and preferred some of the original
tbh i genuinly dont have a problem with it, i think it sounds better
Me too I don’t really get the hate to tv
Me too, I'm too dumb to notice differences
Two totally different type of people right on top of this comment
I used to think something about beats in 1989 tracks is missing but now I m in love with TV tracks' beats(especially welcome to New York)
you don't think she sounds drowned out in the mixing?
There's a part in the bridge where she goes "Please, leave me stranded", and on "Leave", the pitch correction is VERY audible. That word is sung quite breathy and breathy sounds are much more apparent when pitch corrected. All studio versions of songs are pitch corrected to an extent because they're supposed to be the best recording possible, but with a sound like that it would've been better to re-record the line until it was at the right pitch raw or close enough so the pitch correction isn't as detectable
Ps. I'm a huge Taylor fan and in no way am I trying to undermine her, and yes this is very nit-picky, but it bothers me every time I listen to the song and I'm surprise to see details like that slip through the cracks at the level Taylor works at
They murdered my child
This was insanely helpful omg
Maybe the fastest I've ever subscribed to a channel
Haha! I appreciate it, thank you!
I respect Taylors version endevor but many of the re records do not hit the same production wise and even sometimes the vocals.
Im so glad i’m not the only one who noticed that it sounded so buns
blank space TV breakdown next please
my gripe with New Romantics TV is that the vocal tracks have a bit of delay, like it's not exactly on the beat, like a few milliseconds off.
Did the multiple tracks or stems leak for these songs? How did you get the isolated tracks?
What mic are you holding at the beginning btw cool vid love ittt
it looks like the shure sm7b!
Good eye! Yep, it's the Shure SM7b and I love it!
As somebody who doesn’t understand anything of musical production I can describe it the same way as Style, the originals have more echo and reverb
And the Tvs are more polished vocally, or more clear maybe?
That's a great analysis! The originals definitely have more of that roomy sound which sounds like an environment you could bring to a party! The new version has a more standard feel which sounds more like a polished version meant for the 2020's, but the old version had that energetic space that a lot of 2010's songs had
PLEASE do wonderland!!!!
I've been seeing more and more requests for this one, so I might be doing this one!
so we’re just gonna ignore that damn metronome at the beginning? 😭
The tv crown vocals sound likr children screaming in pain
This is why I buy the og vinyl and just listen to it on that because when I heard New Romantics tv I cried because the chorus was completely ruined
taylor said at the Minneapolis eras tour that she doesn’t mind which one we listen to, there’s no pressure! :’) Taylor still gets paid for listening to the OGs on streaming, if you prefer them
rip to me fav song on 1989
I really love it, can you analize some songs out of her Midnights album and told us what you think or whats going on there?
Can you do I Knew You Were Trouble?? Please for me the mixing sounds unbalanced
could you do this with shake it off? there’s a random click on the second verse that annoys me so much and i’m not sure if it’s just me or the production
Hope you're planning to make an análisis of "blank space" 🙊🙏
pls bring to us more content like that! 😊
Can we have I Know Places OG vs TV? Thanks!
now do this for Blank Space cuz tv instrumental feels so flat and like it's missing some instruments. Also, compare I Know Places cuz that is the best re-recording we got from here ever.
Please do "I Know Places!"
People just don’t like change and it freaks them out. I love all the TV songs.
I would love for you to compare The Story of Us Og vs Tv
also the problem with remaking these is the time difference cause it was almost a whole ten years later and just the way music is produced has changed and ig just the timeliness of it just because pop music has changed so much if that makes sense like pop music today isnt made or produced the same as it was then, also because it just didn’t have the same producers so it just wasnt the same. it wasnt bad and i really like the TV but its missing the rawness and nostalgia that the og gives
Some of them were even older (Fearless and Speak Now were 13)
I personally love the instrumental production in Taylor's version and also Taylor's vocals too my only issue with the new version of the song is those "AHHH," I like more the "AHH"s in original than to the Taylor's version, it really sounds like children's crowd screaming that...
and because I hated those "ahh" in new version, I remix it on my own... I changed the "AEHH" in taylor's version to the original "AHH"😂
how do we get you in the studio... expeditiously...
i think the only version i can listen to completely without wanting to turn it off is fearless but all the others just have moments that make you wonder why they did that lmao. toughts and prayers abt the reputation version 🤐
Please do Enchanted next 😭
My main issue woth TV was that you can just barely hear her over the music in the chorus 😭 it’s my favorite part of the song and yet tou can barely hear her vocally
omg please do blank space too, cuz that snare was a little uncomfrotable
1989 tv is the worst re recording
4:15 sounds exactly the same to me
Hey man, where are you getting the multi tracks for these? Would love to remix them or analyze them further.
Bros ears are dope
I prefer TV it’s so bright the song and the vibes she brought to the album especially the clear color blue and smile of her cover like if it aint call 1989 it will definitely be called New Romantics and that’s how she delivered what she intended at the first time she writes it however the og sounds like a nostalgia now if i listen to it
In 1989 taylor’s version i could immediately tell there were more synths and i hated it
Thank you so much for bringing light into this discussion. I hate the new version, it sounds confusing.
Wonderland TV is also so much better than the original and I already loved the original
Pls do shake it off tv next
my best TV albums are Red (with exception of 22 and WANEGBT...i prefer OG versions) Fearless and Speak Now. Sonically 1989 was a let down for me
there’s really no problem with NR taylor’s version, but i honestly can’t listen to it and this helped but i still don’t know what throws me off
