Work is the other main way to meet friends. Over the years, I've made the most friends via work, where we shared a great deal and had the opportunity to learn about each other.

Don’t cry😢. You and Jean must start your own holiday traditions: foods, activities, and decorations!

Thanks for your always interesting podcast! Here in South Africa, we have second hand shops (few and far between), Salvation Army and also Hospuce shops. But I cannot put them under the heading of thrift stores, as the prices are ridonculous!!!! Garage sales are also boldly obscure, and when you find one, the prices are through the ceiling. I also struggle to find builders reclamation yards - everyone prefers to see these as well kept secrets!!!!😢 I visited the USA several times between 1973 and 2000, and I was amazed and also a bit envious of the thrift opportunities......

Happy Easter. We are in Paris from SD-USA. Visited Girveny today. Crowds were light, gardens beautiful and the town charming. That might have lifted your spirits like it did ours. Take care.

Maybe try 'vide greniers' instead of brocantes. Fewer antiques but also fewer professionals, more ordinary people selling their stuff after decluttering!

Hi Arielle… regarding relationships-I’ve heard it said the French are a very private, close knit people. They keep very tight inner circles, which can be challenging for outsiders. I think that characteristic is very common among people, in general, especially in big cities. That said, I think your advice for building relationships is right on. Joining a social group is a good start, but consistency, as you alluded to, is key. Good job, young lady!

RE: Flea market/brocante pricing in Paris. Is it possible that if you go outside of Paris to the equivalent of the suburbs, that people have any kind of garage sale/flea market sell off by individuals as we do in the States? I think they overcharge in Paris simply because they get away with it with tourists (more likely than those living there who know how overpriced items are). One can only imagine how much they'll charge during the Olympics. Will you stay in town during some/all of the Olympics? Seems like a good time to be away (You could even rent your apartment out for the equivalent of a couple months rent I bet. Not that you would!)

With pricing i often find the same on Vinted… people sometimes try sell things for more than they are worth/more than you can buy them for new from the store 😅

Yes 🥲 it’s always the “vintage” resellers 😂

Boxing sounds so cool! Your basketball team also sounds like so much fun. I haven't had as much luck here in NYC as classes usually tend to not have the same people week after week. Even my in person French class didn't have people attend consistently (there were only 9 of us!) and no one ever got really friendly over the 3 months. People seem way more guarded after Covid, maybe it's just me!

Hi , Happy Easter, enjoy your video, maybe you can video a little while you shop, that would be cool to see. I enjoyed your London video too! Stay well.

Question: Do individuals sell through the French equivalent of Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace online? You tend to get better prices when folks are trying to get rid of stuff asap. We also have various apps in different neighborhoods/cities that list what's being sold, given away for free.

You've shared so much about the downsides of Paris living. I wonder if you and Jean are considering moving out sooner than later, whether to Canada or elsewhere? It just seems that almost every episode has you talking about annoyances, ripoffs, etc. I guess it's love/hate kinda thing?

If it’s any consolation, sometimes if I’m with my bf or best friend (both French), French people sometimes speak to them in French because they hear us speaking English before… so it’s not just you 😅

I don't know what it was about this year, but for whatever reason it just didn't feel like Easter.
