My too. I use a wheelchair. If you have a way to travel by car, the park is totally accessible. There are a bunch of trails in the valley and in other places.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. A few years ago I thought it would be neat if my boyfriend and I hiked half dome on my 31st birthday. We didn’t apply for a permit until 2 days prior...and we got it. It was meant to be as I ascended with a boyfriend and descended with a fiancé. It was an incredible bonding experience and momentous day for us. Thanks for documenting and sharing your hike!
I am a 63 year old woman with back troubles. I watched your video today and wanted to thank you for sharing your hike with your daughter. I would never be able to physically see those sights with my own eyes, but was so blessed to see them through yours. God bless you and your family.
Wow, Judy, I can't tell you how much that comment made my day! Thank you so much for sharing and I am honored that is crazy hike of ours brought you inspiration and joy. May the good Lord be with you!
I'm 61 and would never be physically able to do this , plus I'm in the UK so my chances now of visiting is slim . Thoroughly enjoyed this video ..and blessed to be able to see such a beautiful place from my bed . Thank you xxx
Made it! Just wanted to make a quick post-trip comment. What an epic hike! Logged 20.5 miles and 5,896’ of elevation gain over the course of close to 13 hours. That was truly an amazing experience. Those cables looked a bit more daunting once I finally laid eyes upon them. Once I was on them and got a feel for it, any anxiety I had went away. No clip on the way up but I did clip on the way down. Holy cow, though. I got stuck for over an hour on the descent of the cables. Even encountered a bear on the trail. The best thing of all was that I got to spend 11 days alone with my wife on just an incredible trip. We went from Vegas to Valley of Fire to The Wave to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and finished it with five days in Yosemite. Speaking of the The Wave. Keep trying that lottery. It was incredible and lived up to the hype.
Wow, Michael, what an incredible trip!!! So thankful you had a life-changing experience and could experience all of it with your lovely wife! Happy for you guys!
My favorite comment was when you said how nice people are on the trail and wouldn’t it be nice if people were like that all the time. Amen. Well said. Great video and thank you!!
Thanks so much, David! Your kind and genuine comment really means a lot to me! Glad you enjoyed it and hope you enjoy the rest of your week, my friend!
This hike is my goal when I hit my weightloss goal, I'm going to train for this particular hike/climb... and also to conquer my anxiety/fears. Great video! Amazing!
I'm literally doing the same thing! Hit my weight goal, hiked Clouds Rest a couple weeks ago and going to continue training and hiking in hopes I can hike Half Dome next summer =D
You guys did a great job narrating this. I'm not a hiker, but have recently fallen in love with going to different national parks. I really felt like I was on half dome with you guys !! Thank you !!
Thanks, Tiffany! That was a really kind comment! This was one of my early edits. So humbled many have found it useful, entertaining and inspiring. Love the National Parks too as that motivated me to create this channel. Keep enjoying these national treasures!
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to climb Half Dome. Now I know. Thank you. I enjoyed your commentary, too. But the best thing about the video is seeing a father and his daughter bonding over such a challenging - and beautiful - experience. You and your daughter are so fortunate to have each other.
I can't thank you enough for those sincere and heart-warming comments. We need more people like you that value the right priorities in life and take the time to encourage others! Have a blessed week!
@@AmericasParks former snow skiier here, knees are still ok but how hard is this hike on them? years and years of skiing has made them not what they used to be so just curious.
@@harpoon_bakery162 Great question! Thankfully my knees are one of the few body parts that doesn't ache. At some points there are a lot of steps going up the waterfalls. I'd say most the hike (80%) is a gradual uphill descent. I'm a big fan of hiking poles - it takes so much weight off the lower body. With some poles I think you'd be fine. Even if you go partially up (say Vernal Falls) and back it's a fantastic hike!
@Justine carrington Just heard about that, Justine. So sad. Both of us agreed that, after we finished, that it was a safe hike as long as you stay within the cables and pay attention. Not sure if you watched the entire video, but Natalie did better than me - both in physical abilities and the absence of fear. She loved the hike and was thankful we did it - even wants to return. It's the fine line in good parenting - encouraging your children to push beyond their comfort zone and yet protecting them from whatever form of danger that they might not foresee.
Awesome video, just want to let you know that I saw your video about a year ago. It inspired me so much that I took my family (two teenaged boys and my wife) and we did the same exact hike just last week. Incredible memories made! Thank you guys for the inspiration!!
What a great comment to read! Super-glad the video inspired you and that you followed through on the adventure. A lot of work in planning, obtaining the permit and of course completing the hike itself - but well worth the effort. Congratulations! A lifetime of memories. Appreciate your desire to prioritize your family! Thanks for sharing that!
Wow I loved this video. I love that you and your daughter got to share that amazing trip. My Dad died of colon cancer 9 years ago....I would give anything in the world to see him again and climb halfdome together. Watching you both climb it is the next best thing. Thank you for the dream. I love your father daughter love. It warms my heart.💜💜💜
Judy, that comment really warms my heart! I am very sorry to hear about your father. Sounds like you had a great relationship for the time you were able to enjoy together. Stay special - I'm sure much of him lives on in you!
Stash water along the way so you don't have to carry all that weight the entire hike. Back in 87. I was the only person up there my entire outing. Started hiking before sunrise. It's so easy when you're young. Never saw another person until I was heading down from the shoulder to the falls. Next time up 3 years later over 100 people and the next year people from top to bottom on the cables and maybe 1000 people up top. Never went back. It was inevitable they'd start requiring permits and controlling the crowds.
Wise words, thank you! If I go back, I'd revise my water management - either filter it from the stream, or as you suggested, stash some along the way. The permit system, though it frustrates people, was necessary. Your first experience up there solo must have been amazing! Glad to hear your story regarding Half Dome!
@@blain5827 You stash on your way up at your preferred intervals. Many trails I do often I sometimes do water stash hikes part of the way. Not all areas have access to streams or lakes making filters useless.
Not only you did the half dome, but you share that memory with your daughter. I hope one day I will have that opportunity to share that with my little girl.
Randy, I’ve lived in the LA area since the 80’s and I recall visiting Yosemite for a hot minute back in the 90’s. I’m a 5 hour drive to Yosemite but was never compelled to visit because...I live 5 hours away and can visit it anytime. After viewing this video in 2020 during the lockdowns, I actually booked a few nights in Yosemite in October 2020. We just came back from a week in Yosemite making it my second visit in 6 months-20 years after the prior visit! I actually purchased the annual inter park pass because I plan to visit more national parks this year and hope to return to Yosemite in fall. Thanks for inspiring me to enjoy the natural beauty of God’s handiwork.
As a dad myself, I loved your commentary and attitude to what you're doing. My 11 year old and I are targetting a half-dome attempt having done Nevada falls last time. Thanks for the inspiration.
All the best to you and your son, Sam! Can't tell you after a decade of NP trips with my kids how much these adventures have built into our relationships. Wish you guys many safe and memorable times together!
I am very impressed with the way that your daughter did this entire hike and looked so calm. This just goes to show that big muscles are not needed, as her skinny frame and a strong desire to see extreme nature, were all that was required. Well done young lady!!
Your daughter is so brave. You can see how scared she was before she started hiking but she conquered her fear. Probably because she felt safe because she was with her dad! By the way, I just came across your channel a few weeks ago and just noticed one of the videos that you are a pastor? You seem like a very cool pastor in a good way. It’s not like you’re trying hard be cool, you just are. You have an amazing personality and beautiful aura from what I get from your videos 👍🏼
Caught the previous comment you left, but wasn't notified of this one - it's even better! So sorry for the late response and thanks for the inspiring words. A nice way to start the day! :)
Enjoyed that! Thanks. Did Vernal Falls back in 94. Awesome to see the rest of the hike to Half Dome. We saw a Mountain Lion while having dinner at the Awanee Lodge. Your comment is so true...when hiking, everyone there is for a common goal and It brings out the best in people.
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement! That hike to Vernal is still one of the best in the Parks. A mountain lion... they're so elusive - rare sight indeed! Have a super weekend!
I'm 67 and will never do this hike. I don't think I would have in my younger days. Your video was incredible and to do it with your daughter ? Priceless ! What a story to tell your Grandkids !
Hilarious! :) It was intense, but I felt fairly secure with the cables on both sides of me. The 2x4's spaced every 10 yards or so provided a nice periodic rest. Thanks for watching!
This is so cool. This is something that your daughter is going to look back on years from now, and be so grateful that she had a dad that wanted to spend time with her and do things together like this.
Kudos to Natalie for leaving her comfort zone. Kudos to you for giving her that chance. What a great time to spend together. She will remember long after you are gone.
I made it up to nevada falls a few days ago. I thought that was the furthest you could go! it was insanely difficult and tiring for me even at just 21 years old . Incredible work sir, and great filming. It was so nostalgic and heartwarming to see footage like this of the hike even when it was just a few days ago when I was up there. I'm sure coming back to this video in a few months, or years, will have an even stronger effect. This might just be my favorite video on youtube. Thank you. I'm starting to think about when my next trip to yosemite will be just so I can experience this all over again, but then again there are so many other hikes I'd love to do (upper falls comes to mind, as well as the plethora of backpacking experiences outside the valley).... what a beautiful place and what a beautiful experience. Thanks once again.
That was really an encouraging comment, thank you! Had to just share your heartfelt words with my wife. Glad you had a great experience at Yosemite... and hope you'll get back and create more fond memories!
It is good to leave early like you did. You beat the heat that way. Best to bring enough water like you did. I did it 40 years ago but it took me 3 attempts to do it. I have asthma . Because of the elevation gain it was difficult. Thank you so much for reminding how difficult it was and providing the beautiful journey it was and that I was in God’s land. Joyce
Hey Joyce, thanks for the comments and affirmation! Congratulations on your successful summit. Encouraged how you didn't quit! As for the attitude, we live about 10 feet above seal level, so I die when I'm out West in those high elevations! lol! Have a blessed weekend!
haha! Thanks! Glad you can enjoy this through our experience. Half Dome is amazing, but there are still many less crazy and still incredible hikes at Yosemite.
What a wonderful moment for you and your daughter!!!! Thank you for this video. It was truly beautiful! Just came back from there this weekend. One of my most happy places to be.
Thanks, Jamie! Encouraged to read your kind words! I agree, one of the most beautiful places I've experienced. Glad to hear you had a great time in Yosemite too!
I loved your comment at the end about how people's good sides come out when they're working towards a similar goal. A month ago I ran my first marathon and everyone I met and talked to was in the same boat, finishing what they signed up for. I met some incredible people who were fighting off incredible pain and managing to still be supportive and encouraging of other runners. I do wish people were like that all the time. Thank you for the video!
Hey Matt, that was a pleasure to read. Appreciate it! Seems like you are one of the "good guys" we need more of in this world. Congrats on the marathon. Amazing accomplishment!
Great comment! Totally know the feeling! Thankfully, all of my older children are girls. They tend to be a little more cautions! Appreciate the lunchtime smile and fond memories of parenting!
Natalie for President! Wish I could get my granddaughter to take some time from her busy life of college and boys (lol) and go on a hiking adventure with me. The cables looked like a real challenge and you two did an awesome job. I really enjoyed seeing the park and Half dome thru your adventure. You are really blessed to have Natalie with you and to be able to cherish fond memories of your adventure together. It just doesn't get any better than that! Happy Trails!
That was such a great comment to read, John! Really blessed me. These National Park adventures have been among our best memories! Appreciate your heart!
Ever since I first watched this video years ago, I’ve been dreaming of completing this hike. This morning I received notification that I was selected for a Half Dome permit in July. I’ve come back to this video to begin my planning and also to say thank you for the inspiration!
Hey that is really wonderful news, Alex! Congratulations and all the best to you for your upcoming hike. Consider using carabiners for safety (I probably would if I did it again)..
I can't tell you how much fun this video was for me to watch. This hike has been a bucket list destination for me for more than 20 years. I wanted to make the hike with my son, but he has Juvenal arthritis, unfortunately not possible. I loved watching you make the hike with your daughter (if shes not your daughter I apologize). I hope to make the hike some day, was so fun watching you make the journey. Thank you for posting.
That was really a nice comment to read, thank you! Yes, it has been a bucket list hike of mine for a while and when my daughter heard of it, she wanted to attempt it as well. She was a little nervous at first, but easily outdid her dad on the journey! All the best to you and your dear son. Hope you are able to get out to Yosemite!
Last year I hiked up this trail and was really out of shape. I got to the wires and had to turn around, i was scared. This year I'm in shape and im going this summer with my girlfriend and we will go all the way to the top and i will propose to her! Honestly i'm gonna be more scared of proposing then i will be the wires.
Wow, what a GREAT story! Thanks so much for sharing! Going back, conquering your fears, getting in shape and proposing! Everything in line for the best day of your life! All the best!
I watched this video for the first time a few years ago, and ever since it has made me more eager to do this hike. I’m happy to say I summited Half Dome for the first time this past Sunday 6/2/24! It was so worth it, and I would love to do it again! Thank you for sharing this video!
Great video. I've done the hike 3 times, wanting to go again. Yosemite can be a lot of fun if planned right. One time I made the mistake going on a busy weekend, which was a poor experience. Go early in the morning, avoid weekends and holidays.
Congrats to you and your daughter. I'm always impressed with parents that take their young kids on these challenging hikes (more impressed with the kids). Its such a great confidence builder, teaches self-reliance, and gets them out of their cozy, entitled head-space. I've passed a 12 yr old on the summit of Whitney, and a mother with 2 boys less than 10 heading to Trail Camp (12,000 ft) with full backpacks. On the flip side - I passed a man with his 13 year old son on the way up Whitney Mountaineer's Route - the kid was whining and groaning the entire way. He couldn't get out of his own head-space to appreciate what was all around him, and the timelessness of it. I admired the father, but felt disappointment for the kid. Hopefully, he will look back on the experience with a more open mind and find value in it. My own hiking experiences did a lot for me even in my 50's.
Thank you and more sound wisdom, my friend! I have three daughters 17-21 and we've been doing National Park trips now for over 10 years. Enjoy having the whole family together, but the one-on-one daddy-daughter time has done so much to build our relationship and develop their character. The conversation, physical challenges, scenic locations, shared experience, enduring memories - teaching, but moreover listening to them - has been priceless!
Great video. Just did it for my 6th time on 09-21-19, but first time at 60 years old. I have done it with my kids several times when they were a little younger than your daughter. It's awesome that you have such a great relationship with your girl!!
Appreciate those great remarks! Six time is really amazing. Personally, I have never heard of so many repeated trips by one individual. Congrats! Like us, I'm sure those are some of your fondest memories with your children. Stay young, my friend!
Incredible hike! I only made it up to Nevada Falls last year (no half dome permit). But that was beautiful enough. I really could see the smile in your face on top of half dome when you realized what you 2 had accomplished ;-) Thx for showing us this awesome place. Very well documented.
That was a blessing to read, Jim! Thanks for the personal observations and warm encouragement. And happy to hear you've been up there. The top of Nevada Fall is still a great experience and wonderful accomplishment! Take care!
Awesome video! I subbed. I have nerve problems and don't know what my future holds. I have to see and do this stuff before I can't anymore. I took my daughter all over the Western USA. Spent alot of money and I do not regret any of it. In fact a couple of months ago she thanked me for taking her to these places. Now she has her own family and look forward to travelling.
God bless your heart! My daughters are getting older, but they'll also say these times together are their best memories. Wish you good health and some memorable adventures in your future!
@@AmericasParks thank you sir. Hope to see you out on the trails when things open up. I hope to go to Utah and Colorado at the end of September. I gotta see me the yellow trees and get in the hot pools.
Seeing Natalie and you pull yourselves up that mountain reminded me of the time I took my girls hiking in the Black Hills. We were on the Lover Leap trail. Girls were about 21 and 13. We knew that the first half mile would be the worst very steep and rocky. My youngest Emily started complaining early and often. Tried to encourage her but there reached a point I lost it and gave her the truck keys and told her to go back. My daughter Rachel and I completed the hike about 3 hours later. That was the day that cost me the father of the year award. Lol. Seriously though that had to have been an epic experience.
What a great story, David! Appreciate your realness and humility and desire to spend time with your daughters. Hope all is well and you have a blessed weekend!
This was such a great video! Thank you for sharing. I am visually impaired and have dreamed of doing this someday but after watching your video and seeing you modestly struggle as experienced as you guys are with hiking I may just have to live vicariously through you :)
Hi Jymm, Often I can read dozens of comments each day, all wonderful, but very few can make touch my heart in a deep and emotional way. Thank you for sharing what you did! I appreciate your heart and courage, and hope, if possible, you may be able to visit Yosemite and safely scale Half Dome one day, my friend!
@@AmericasParks Thank you for your kind wishes :) I've been obsessed with National Parks lately and just got a lifetime annual pass. My dream is to visit them all (or as many as I can) with my wife and 2 daughters, before my vision goes completely. I stumbled upon your Chanel and have been slowly watching them all. My oldest daughter (6yrs old) was looking over my shoulder while I was watching one of your Acadia videos just yesterday. She said "WOW" when seeing the view from the Bee Hive. I told her I wanted to take her there someday and show her all these beautiful places. I teared up a bit thinking about it. Thank you again for posting your adventures with your family. I've enjoyed them greatly and sincerely have been inspired by them. Not sure what you intended to get from posting these videos but please know they have given this ol' blind guy inspiration and a great deal of hope
What an amazing 18 mins of pure joy. From the great personality to being a fabolus dad to the adventurous bravery and to the stunning nature. God bless you sir andyour family and thank you for having me experience something I will never ever do😋
Now that get the award for the best comment of the day! :) Thanks for the kind and encouraging words, my friend! All of God's richest blessings to you!
That was a blessing to read, David. Sorry about your dad, but neat to hear about your fond memories there and humbled to learn I could help you relive them. All the best!
Great video. My father and I ascended Half Dome in the very early '80's.....no permit was needed nor required back then....we just WENT for it on a whim! So glad I did that with my father....the memory has lasted me a lifetime. You've inspired me in your videos to go hike Angel's Landing in Zion...that's on my bucket list. Keep up the great work....you inspire a lot of people. God Bless.
Love the words, brother! My daughter would share the same sentiments - probably our most memorable time together. All the best with Angels Landing. Appreciate the encouragement!
Natalie, you did great on the hike, I will make it someday, and yep your dad did make it safer by making sure y'all had plenty of food & water. Congrats' from a Mo. Hillbilly :)
Natalie, you were awesome, and remind me of my daughter in this video when I hiked over some cliffs in Hawaii with her at the same age, I never knew or realized she had a concern about the heights until we were almost to the top of a cliff we would still have to climb down an hour later (as, yes, lava was coming toward us). She let me know her fear and then we challenged it together as a team, just like you and your Dad did. You have an amazing spirit. Thank you for inspiring all of us, and your Dad’s life is enriched by the time you spend with him. . . . Mike
As amazing as this video is (an that’s an understatement), what’s most enjoyable to me is that you did this with your daughter. I’m from the east coast and have never done anything close to that. I have done a lot of hiking local with my daughter. Out greatest achievement is maybe 1/4 way down the Grand Canyon. But I can say I have never felt closer to my daughter than when we were hiking. Great job Dad! She will grow to be an amazing woman thanks in part to you.
Wow, Mike, that comment will warm my heart today! Great to hear your insights and desire to be a good dad, too! These trips have been invaluable in our relationship. Seems like you're making those wonderful memories as well! Keep at it, my friend - from one east coast guy (NJ) to another! :)
@@AmericasParks Go NJ! I guess the Red trail, Mt Tammany at the Delaware Water Gap, and Stairway to Heaven in Vernon are a just a walk in the park for you two. So many people mock NJ but have no clue how beautiful North West Jersey is. Its not Yosemte, but it not just the NJ Turnpike
@@mikejw58VERY WELL SAID, Mike, regarding the Garden State! Also, just got back from Tammany. Love that hike. Hope to get the vid up in the near future.
@@AmericasParks The first time we did the red trail many years ago it was nice, but the last time we went (about 4 years ago) it was like walking on Seventh Ave in Manhatten there were so many people. lol. Maybe it was just a busy day. I don't know.
I normally don't comment on TH-cam videos but I stumbled across your site a few days ago and been checking them out since I love NPS sites a ton as well. Your videos are really well made, informative and inspirational! In fact, you've got me going down the rabbit hole of looking at the others -- so cool checking out all the places you've been. Keep seeing this great country of ours and keep these videos coming. They're great! :)
Getting ready to call it a night - what a wonderful way to end my day! Thanks for taking the time to pass along the genuine and encouraging words. So wonderful to know others find the videos inspiring, informative and entertaining. And we do indeed live in a great country! Have a super weekend!
Nicely done! I've hiked HD twice now, the first time with my Wife, the cables had not been set and were simply laying against the rock. That was harrowing!! We picked up the heavy cables and went up Batman style! We made it, but I would never do that again. Second time was with my Family, and having your kids going up the cables (all properly set, this time) adds a whole 'nother dimension of nervousness! I really enjoyed watching this and remembering the different legs of the journey. What a great memory to have with your Daughter. Thanks!!
Thanks so much for sharing such kind and thoughtful words! Totally agree and glad you too were able to make those memories with your family as well! Up without the cables fully set-up - that's impressive and courageous! Have a great weekend, my friend!
What an amazing hike. Thank you for taking me with you. This is one hike I could never do because of the heights. Your video gave me the next best thing. Looking forward to following more of your videos!
I was just in Yosemite for 4 days ago on 3 days hike. Hiked a lot but couldn’t get Half Dome permit but our hikes was fantastic. Great video of your bonding experience with your daughter 👍🏼
Thank you so much for such a motivating video! This is one of my biggest goals and this video is really really encouraging to watch. Again Thank you so much and congratulations on Summiting Half Dome! ❤️🎉
So wonderful to see this hike again after 40 years! The Beauty of technology you did a great job and so nice you hiked with your daughter to share this once in a lifetime accomplishment. I did this with a boyfriend and we just decided one day to hike the Dome. We drove up, slept on the side of the road on the way in to the park as so last minute. The next day we hiked the Dome and to this day one of the highlights of my life! From then on was hooked on Yosemite and now my two sons are..thanks agin, great video!
PLEASE NOTE: The format of this video is a "vlog." In other words, my primary focus was to document our PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and FEELINGS as it pertained to this iconic hike. Of course I reveal the breathtaking splendor of Yosemite, but if that is all you want, this might not be the best selection for you. Peace and thanks to all for the kind comments over the years! AND IF I HIKE THIS AGAIN - start later, filter water and use a carabiner.
Did you find the last spring up near Quarter Dome? It's a mile or two down the trail and it's not that strong a spring but it'll save a lot of water weight if you carry a purifier. I did and ended up purifying a lot of water for fellow hikers.
@@a.ham.9856 I was a little clueless on the water thing when I first did this hike. Would definitely do it different with filtering if I get back. A lot of unnecessary weight. Thanks for the heads up!
@@AmericasParks Not for nothing but I'd forget stashing water there. The rangers may not take kindly to it on such a popular route, and they might remove it thinking someone had abandoned it. The only places I've ever stashed water on a route was in the western desert, where there seriously wasn't any water to be had, very few people were around, and very little hope of rescue.
Hello America's Park's! I'm taking another look at your trip to Yosemite National Park and your hike to half dome. This is one of the few National Parks that I haven't been to yet and getting some ideas from this video. WOW! You and your daughter did a truly epic hike. Lord willing my son and I will visit Yosemite this year. Amazing video footage! Great job Randy!
Thanks, Al! So clear to see how the Lord is working in your heart. Hope it all works out. Yosemite ranks with most people in the top 3 national parks. If you decide to summit Half Dome, remember you'll need a permit to enter the cable section.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. It’s been a quiet a while since I made that hike I’m 67 now and I’ll never forget standing on top of half dome. I was 40 when I hiked it but we didn’t need to sign in to hike it, things have really changed I enjoyed your video
Thanks for documenting your ascent to Half Dome. My wife and I visited Yosemite four years ago, and we would love to come back and follow your footsteps. And I can definitely attest to how supportive fellow hikers were when we were there. Thanks again 👍🏼
What a beautiful experience to share with your daughter. My dad needs a hip replacement and has two bad knees. What I wouldn’t give to experience this with him
Wonderful video. I did half dome twice and you really captured the hike. I found Subdome harder than the cables actually. My first hike was before the permit system and it was crazy as hell with all those people hanging at the cables The number of people on your hike was nothing compared to that time.
Neat to hear about your experiences! Sure do hope I can get up there a second time as well. Also glad to know that you feel I honored this iconic hike with a fair representation. Thank you! .
Great video of the greatest trial I ever hiked! Life changing and forever in my memories and oh the stories! Year was 1988 21 years old so no cell phones so I don’t really have any visual memories except for one snap shot someone in our group took half way up the cables. No permits needed back then. We got going too late and the last 2 miles were in the dark. But the cables and summiting Half Dome was a n accomplishment I will always remember! It’s also the day I became terrified of hieghts!, on the edge up on top I had this weird, powerful inner feeling of leaping off the edge straight down into the valley. Can’t exp, ain’t it, just turned pale and my buddies asked what’s wrong and I told them I feel like I’m gonna jump. Thankfully they pulled me away from the edge and I was able to get down the cables. But have been afraid of heights ever since! Thanks for the great documenting of this hike! Brought back a lot of memories!, after watching your Grand Canyon trail video I’ve been watching your stuff and came across this one! Superb job!
Hey Mike, really enjoyed reading that comment! What special memories! I'm with you - of all the trails I've hiked, this one still remains my favorite. Take care and have a blessed weekend!
Another wonderful video. You and your daughter are tough and committed as I can imagine how challenging this is. Great video. I admire your honesty and humility.
You really nailed the description of the hike. And yes, that section that is just below the cables is the most difficult and tiring of the whole trip. I did the hike years ago and underestimated the difficulty. You have to be in good shape. I hiked from Glacier Point and the Panorama Trail gives great views. How nice to have made the trip with your daughter.
This just came up in my feed and I wanted to relive my own hike of Half Dome a bit. Turns out we hiked it on the same day. I can see myself and one brother in the video in the background when you are talking with your daughter at the bottom of the cables after coming down. That was a perfect day to summit Half Dome.
I really enjoyed this vid because I LOVE hiking and because I was supposed to go to Yosemite for my wedding anniversary last month, but it didn't happen because of the lockdown due to COVID-19. I was extremely bummed out but we're hoping to be able to go next year. It's only about a 6 hour drive from where we live here in SoCal. Also, I really enjoyed this vid because it's a father and daughter spending time and enjoying nature and having a wonderful and unforgettable adventure. I wish I had a Dad who did things like this with me. Your daughter will always cherish those memories. Truly awesome. Thanks for sharing this journey with us.
Apart from the disappointment to hear about your cancelled trip - that comment was super encouraging! Most of my channel is the trips I have taken with my family - often with my three daughters. Looking back - as you said, such a wise decision. Thanks again and congrats on your anniversary!
This was the most exciting film I've seen anywhere. I'm disabled but I felt like I had climbed with you and your lovely daughter in a heavenly place that I might have tackled myself many moons ago. Thank you for a marvellous adventure!
It's hard to go wrong anywhere in that beautiful area! We had a great time out there - hope you can conquer that Half Dome hike. So special! Thanks for the kind words!
Nice to relive those moments.Thank you. We went on a weekday early in the predawn as you did from Curry. Once on the Dome we were all alone with the whole peak to ourselves! Used flashlights for the last stretch into the valley after dusk. Would recommend the hike to any willing person. Thanks again@
Thank you very much! I really try to achieve that with the videos - keeping the viewer with us on the National Park adventures. Glad to hear you felt that way. God bless, my friend!
Going up you can cut up to upper trail from Vernal Falls or come down that way from top get good view of Falls from above. Go right at the bottom of Nevada 300 yards out. To river. For shot of falls straight on. Only 60 yards out off the trail. I would go up Vernal Falls trail then down from top. At the bathroom near bottom by bridge the trail goes down also. Past water tank and cones out at bus stop. Illouette creek Falls are on that side.
The best hike I've ever done. The cables are a magical and exhilarating experience. I counted 850 or so steps at Vernal Falls. I was so wet that it distracted me from the pain of the steps. This is a great video with helpful commentary.
Thank you for taking us with you! You and your daughter did so good. Watching you two, I realize I could never have done it. My daughter and I hiked up Vernal and Nevada Falls. And I thought I was going to die😁. You must have felt like you were on top of the world up there. Beautiful. Thank you
Dude great video! This reminds me of a couple of years ago When I was 13 and my uncle took me and my brother to the top! We both wanted to quit numerous times and he pushed us through and we made it back just as the sunset. Thank you for reminding me of this awesome experience
That was a great comment, Nick! So true, you body is screaming to stop often on this hike. Glad to hear you completed it and have those great memories.
I just did Half Dome yesterday while the cables were down and extremely exhilarating! Used my climbing harness, rope and carabiners to secure myself to the cables. My friend and I were the only ones on top of Half Dome, so worth it!
So cool, brave soul! That must have been an incredible rush to ascend with climbing equipment. And then on top alone - unforgettable! Congrats on an amazing accomplishment and safe adventure.
You are a good man, Eric! My whole channel is about these times with family - especially 1 on 1/dad-daughter hikes. One of the best investments I made in our relationships. Wish the same for you!
I'm disabled and I feel like I was there with you both. Great job of documenting your adventure!!
So glad to hear that! Stay strong, my friend!
My too. I use a wheelchair. If you have a way to travel by car, the park is totally accessible. There are a bunch of trails in the valley and in other places.
tomkat USA nice to see positive comments 🙂🙂 I loved this video and the father/daughter team are so cute.
Live life to the fullest mt friend. Wish that I could do the same trail with my kids but they would disapprove 100%.
Stay strong brother! God bless
Hi Hannah, that is an incredible story! Thanks for taking the time to leave the comment! How can you ever forget Half Dome! :)
Wow! What a cool story. Hopefully a tale for the grandkids 😉
and now you are divorced?
Any Video or photo for that emotional moment?!? 🙏🏼
you went up with your boyfriend and came down with a different guy? how could you... oh... never mind....
I highly recommend this hike. You will fondly remember it for a lifetime.
Thank you... just seeing that thumbnail again brings back some great memories from 2107! Have a wonderful New Year!
@America's Parks, You're welcome, and best wishes for the new year.
Literally the hardest hike I have ever done. One of my greatest accomplishments. I’m 14 years old and never thought I could do something like that.
Hey, way to go, Chloe! It's an accomplishment you'll never forget. Thanks for the comment and all the best to you!
Looks like you have a wonderful father daughter relationship, your a lucky man to spend such quality time with your family
Hey, thank you so much, Shawn! Appreciate the observation and words of encouragement. Hope you have a great day!
My favorite comment was when you said how nice people are on the trail and wouldn’t it be nice if people were like that all the time. Amen. Well said. Great video and thank you!!
Appreciate hearing how that comment "jumped out" at you! Have a blessed week!
Easily the best video I've seen regarding hiking Half Dome. Quality work, sir. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing!
That comment was SO COOL to read! Keep shooting for high goals! Go for it my friend, you can do it! :)
I'm literally doing the same thing! Hit my weight goal, hiked Clouds Rest a couple weeks ago and going to continue training and hiking in hopes I can hike Half Dome next summer =D
Set you mind to it and you will be there! All the best!
This. Is. Amazing. I'm so happy for you and your daughter, what an accomplishment! Your video is excellent, I really enjoyed it.
Thank you!
@Justine carrington Thanks so much! Appreciate your sensitive heart!
@@AmericasParks Yeah, that first visit is something I'll never forget. Had it to myself for hours. Keep enjoying your adventures.
@@lavapix Thanks! You too!
How do you pre stash after on a hike up a trail? Seems like sawyer water filter solves such problems
Wonderful words, Raymond! I do hope you and your daughter will make many incredible memories together! Keep being a great dad!
You and your daughter have guts man! That near vertical ascent to half dome was awe inspiring! Congrats!
Appreciate your kind words! Four years ago, but still one of the best memories we have together. Take care!
That was a GREAT comment! Had to encourage my wife with that one as well. God bless!
One of the best TH-cam videos of all time.
Thanks Normie! That was my best memory with my youngest daughter.
That was so thoughtful and very-well articulated. She'll be touched with your words. Can't believe it was three years ago. Thanks again!
There were several bits in this vid that were triggering my fear of heights!
oh no, should have read this one prior to my last response! lol! The hike is truly incredible!
I'm 67 and will never do this hike. I don't think I would have in my younger days. Your video was incredible and to do it with your daughter ? Priceless ! What a story to tell your Grandkids !
That was wonderful to read, Jim! Thanks for the kind/wise words and all the best to you, my friend! Still one of our best memories together.
I'm getting goosebumps just watching. I could probably make it up but they would have to call a helicopter to get me down.
Thank you very much! I am really grateful for the encouragement and reminder you passed along!
I lived it when your daughter said I never want to see a cable again. I enjoyed the video.
Thank so much, Marcia! Still my best memory with my daughter. Enjoy your weekend!
Kudos to Natalie for leaving her comfort zone. Kudos to you for giving her that chance. What a great time to spend together. She will remember long after you are gone.
That was a joy to read, Chris! Thanks for the kind words of encouragement!
As for the attitude, we live about 10 feet above seal level, so I die when I'm out West in those high elevations! lol! Have a blessed weekend!
what a cool dad! just amazing. I will be visiting Yosemite next week just cant wait! thank you for sharing such cool video...
Really touched my heart to read those words! Thank you! Yosemite is an amazing place. Hope you have a terrific time, my friend!
just watching this is more than enough for me....confirmed that I would never do it myself.
haha!
My kid scared the CRUD out of me . Running up to guard rails , skipping over rocks . I was a basket case when we got through with our hike !!!!!
Great comment! Totally know the feeling! Thankfully, all of my older children are girls. They tend to be a little more cautions! Appreciate the lunchtime smile and fond memories of parenting!
😩
Excellent adventure to be able to have with child. You guys made a lifelong memory together.
Thanks for the insightful words! We've had some great times together, but this one still stands out as our best memory. Take care!
Nice work, guys! Yosemite is my favorite place and I've done a lot of different hikes there, but not that one. Thanks for taking us along to the top!
Half Dome has always been on the bucket list. So blessed to have secured the permit and conquer that with my youngest daughter. Thanks for watching!
Really enjoy reading comments like yours! Congratulations... and still my most memorable hike!
Great video. I've done the hike 3 times, wanting to go again. Yosemite can be a lot of fun if planned right. One time I made the mistake going on a busy weekend, which was a poor experience. Go early in the morning, avoid weekends and holidays.
Great advice and thanks for the kind words! Three times - awesome!
Very cool trip to take your daughter on. She'll remember this for the rest of her life.
Thanks, David, so true! Three years ago and it's probably one of our best memories together. Have a great week!
I really could see the smile in your face on top of half dome when you realized what you 2 had accomplished ;-)
Thx for showing us this awesome place.

Thanks so much! Really encouraged to read your kind words! Hope you have a great day, my friend!

Natalie, you did great on the hike, I will make it someday, and yep your dad did make it safer
by making sure y'all had plenty of food & water.

The first time we did the red trail many years ago it was nice, but the last time we went (about 4 years ago) it was like walking on Seventh Ave in Manhatten there were so many people. lol. Maybe it was just a busy day. I don't know.
this got me so hyped to go out west.
I hear you! We live on the East Coast - there is something so special about being out there!
Well Done! What an amazing hike.
Thanks! Definitely one of my most memorable hikes and favorite videos too!
T
2020....what a treat to watch you and your daughter slay that hike!
Thanks so much, Maisy! That was so wonderful to read!
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Glad to hear we could bring some enjoyment to your life! :)
Great video. I use to think I was in shape until I saw you guys do it with ease. My hands were sweating watching the climb!
Super-glad you enjoyed the video, John! We probably made it look harder than it was, lol! Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend!
I was just in Yosemite for 4 days ago on 3 days hike. Hiked a lot but couldn’t get Half Dome permit but our hikes was fantastic. Great video of your bonding experience with your daughter 👍🏼
Appreciate those kind words and glad to hear you too had a wonderful time in Yosemite!
Natalie: “It’s so beautiful up here” 🌎🙋🏻♀️
Well put again, Monica! That comment pretty much summed up our hike! ...I could barely keep up with her!
Daughter is such a trooper! Great adventure
Thanks! She'll be encouraged! Actually, she did much better than me! :)
Thank you so much for such a motivating video! This is one of my biggest goals and this video is really really encouraging to watch. Again Thank you so much and congratulations on Summiting Half Dome! ❤️🎉
Really appreciate those kind and encouraging words! I hope you get the opportunity to do this epic hike!
Did the same in may this year, except halfdome. So great to see this again! And big respect for father and daughter !!!!
Thanks, much appreciated! Regardless of how far you go, this is among the best hikes in America! Glad to hear you've enjoyed it!
How to hike half dome, I'll tell you: One foot in front of the other... over and over again.
Right on!
What a great comment!!! Love hearing the Half Dome stories from others - so personal and memorable! Appreciate the kind encouragement too!
@@a.ham.9856 Thanks for input... makes sense!
Superb effort sir, I’ve just seen your channel. Q - carabiner for the cable section ?
The feeling my body gets watching you guys is insane and I’m at home comfortable lol. You guys are so brave!
Thanks for the kind words! Probably more grueling than scary. lol!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. It’s been a quiet a while since I made that hike I’m 67 now and I’ll never forget standing on top of half dome. I was 40 when I hiked it but we didn’t need to sign in to hike it, things have really changed I enjoyed your video
Thanks Eugene and grateful you found the video rewarding! That still stands out as the most memorable day I spent with my daughter. Take care!
Thanks for documenting your ascent to Half Dome. My wife and I visited Yosemite four years ago, and we would love to come back and follow your footsteps. And I can definitely attest to how supportive fellow hikers were when we were there. Thanks again 👍🏼
Appreciate the kind words! Hope a hike up this gem is in the future for you guys!
Just applied for my trip in June and got approved! First try 😉 thank you for easing my mind and getting me even more excited to tackle Half Dome!
Hey, thanks for sharing the great news, Jen! Congrats on your application. Hope you have a safe and memorable trip. Best hike I have ever done!
What a beautiful experience to share with your daughter. My dad needs a hip replacement and has two bad knees. What I wouldn’t give to experience this with him
God bless your heart, Ashley! I'm sure he is happy to have you as a daughter!
Phenomenal coverage with spectacular video footage. Such a special trip for you and your daughter. Thank you for sharing your experience with others.
Hi Kim, and thanks so much for your kind and encouraging comments! It's still one of our best memories together!
Wonderful video. I did half dome twice and you really captured the hike. I found Subdome harder than the cables actually.
My first hike was before the permit system and it was crazy as hell with all those people hanging at the cables
The number of people on your hike was nothing compared to that time.
Thanks, Mike! Encouraged to hear those specific observations! All the best to you!
After watching this video, I have decided it's better and healthier to watch someone else do this.
Not a bad decision! :) Thanks for joining us and appreciate the comment!
Enjoyed reading that, Jerry. Happy to hear you've been blessed to enjoy the hike too. Still one of my favorites!
This just came up in my feed and I wanted to relive my own hike of Half Dome a bit. Turns out we hiked it on the same day. I can see myself and one brother in the video in the background when you are talking with your daughter at the bottom of the cables after coming down. That was a perfect day to summit Half Dome.
What a super-cool story, Brian! We'll never forget that amazing experience!
My God - what a stunning film! Absolutely awe-inspiring scenery and the photography! Words fail.
What a wonderful place the US is.
This was the most exciting film I've seen anywhere. I'm disabled but I felt like I had climbed with you and your lovely daughter in a heavenly place that I might have tackled myself many moons ago.
Thank you for a marvellous adventure!
Thanks was really encouraging to read, Janice! Thanks for taking the time to share your kind thoughts!
Will have to share those words with my daughter. I really try (as you said) to make people feel like they are with us on the hikes. God bless you!
@@AmericasParks ...stay safe! Love from England. 💜
Awesome guys! I live right down the road and still haven't climbed half dome....but I'm usually screwing around in Stanislaus more
It's hard to go wrong anywhere in that beautiful area!
Enjoyed reading that! Always wonderful to hear the Half Dome stories from others. So many special and unique memories. Have a super Christmas!
You earned a fan, brilliantly made. Just felt we were right there with you both. God Bless
Really appreciate the kind words, Curt! Glad you've experienced this gem! Same here... still my all-time favorite hike.
Thank you for taking us with you! You and your daughter did so good. Watching you two, I realize I could never have done it. My daughter and I hiked up Vernal and Nevada Falls. And I thought I was going to die😁.
You must have felt like you were on top of the world up there. Beautiful.
Thank you
It was amazing, Tisa... and making it to the top of Nevada Falls is a tremendous accomplishment! Appreciate the kind comment!
A place of incredible beauty! If I was to choose one national park to visit in the US, Yosemite would be it. Thank you for showing us such beauty.
Crazy I live 50 miles away and have never been in my 30 year life. Damn. I need to one day
Great taste, Daniela! Thanks for the comment!
Can’t wait to do stuff like this with my daughters
You are a good man, Eric! My whole channel is about these times with family - especially 1 on 1/dad-daughter hikes. One of the best investments I made in our relationships. Wish the same for you!
