This is the most comprehensive Neocolor II tutorial out of the over 20 I've watched. Thank you for taking the time and resources to help fellow artists.
Thanks for the review; I meant to comment a few days ago when I watched this. Caran d’Ache makes a palette for use with these colors so that you don’t have to worry about residual marks from drawing directly on your paper - it’s slightly rough on one side so that you can scribble on it, then add water and dissolve the solids as you pick up the pigment with your brush. You can mix on it just like a regular palette (I even mix colors before adding water) and it can be used the same way with watercolor pencils if you don’t want visible pencil marks.
This is beautiful. I had difficulty finding a tutorial on them. I have had the set of 40 for about 10 years and hardly touch them. You have convinced me to pull them out again. I loved all the methods of use that you demonstrated. Thank you.

Hi Roslyn! Thank you so much! I hope you continue to enjoy your set! If you are ever interested, here’s another tutorial I did with the Neocolor IIs: th-cam.com/video/zx7vMDFzVz8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EIm4A_xML9EO1Hq0 Have fun! 👩🏻🎨❤️
It was lovely, interesting and educational to watch you demonstrate Neocolour 2 …Years ago in love with these pastels & used them with mixed media You reminded me of the versatility of this medium…. It was a really”buzz” to watch your video
Hi Krista! Thank you so much! That warms my heart and I’m so happy you found this video! Hope you get the chance to play with Neocolor 2s again soon❤️👩🏻🎨
Thank you. I have watched quite a few vids on this medium and have been playing with them on my own. Your tutorial helps me understand much better how to use their particular capabilities.
I’ve had the full set of these on my shelf for months…only using them a little once to do a background. I’m going to pull them down today and play with them!
Hi Becky-that is FANTASTIC!!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I’m happy you enjoyed this and hope you have loads of fun with your Neocolor IIs!!

What a great (info) and lovely (general atmosphere ) review! 🤩🤩🤩I have had these (the full set) for years (+20 ...) but have used them very little. "Thinking of them as pastels", as you stated in the beginning might be the answer/solution. The paper you use seems to be the key to getting the real potential of these Neocolor II . Thank you also for tips such as clean up with baby wipes & the shavings. Really a great video, no nonsense, no music ... a relief in calmness and efficiency. THANK YOU ! So yes, I think they might well become now my unicorn art supply : so much pigment/color that is "aquarellable". I have used Inktense pencils (not the full set) but am bored with them... I will now rekindle my Neocolors II. Can't wait ! Mandatory trip to my art store to get the granulated paper is a bonus. 😀 Your demo piece is lovely !
Thank you so much - That’s wonderful! I’m so happy you got so much out of this review! If for some reason you can’t find the Canson Sand Grain at your store, the Strathmore toned mixed media is a good, affordable substitution. It doesn’t have as much texture but it will handle the small amount of water well. Happy painting! …or is that…aquarellable…ing…?😂❤️🤠
Hi Travis! Thanks so much! I will be the first to admit I am not too proficient in colored pencils. I am comparing brands, though, because I have come to dislike the crumbs I get with Prismacolor Premier. I’m searching for my 🦄 😁 I do have a playlist comparing several colored pencil brands, which is still growing! If you are interested, here is the video featuring Pablos is here: th-cam.com/video/1wA87c4yOqY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wMeyretWEiVDPuNJ The entire playlist is here: th-cam.com/play/PLR7d_Il9GxrQ1vvFx9fnCE4izAWhFb17A.html&si=BxGiXYxjHaml6Bxl Enjoy!🫶🏼👩🏻🎨
Thank you. A lot of people don’t know, used dry, you can blend them beautifully with a blending stump & use them on any surface. You can pretty much do the same thing with these as regular pastels.😉 Adding water is the big plus.
Thank you very much 🌸 I love the painterly style, but can’t work with oilpaint. That is a very good option! Pastelmat is also a good paper for that, by the way
@@artonthecreeknow that I’ve finished watching this, I’m getting way too excited! Have your ever tried Daniel Smith Watercolor sticks? I wonder how they compare. What would this medium be called in an art show?
@suel4269 hi Sue! Yes, I have used the Daniel Smith watercolor sticks and love them-in fact I have a mini-review coming up on those on May 26, and will continue to use them. They are actual Daniel Smith Watercolor, and not at all like the Neocolor IIs. In fact, if you’d like to invest in Daniel Smith Watercolor, their sticks are the most economical way to do that - at least in my area. The Neocolor IIs are a water-soluble wax pigment stick. In my opinion, they are like gouache, but their contents are not gouache. In an art show, they are a water-soluble media, and could be classified as pastel, mixed media, or water-based media depending upon the criteria set forth by the panel of judges. I would suggest contacting the show organizers and inquire with them about their specific parameters regarding Neocolor II. I have seen them defined as a “water-soluble wax pastel.” I hope that helps!👩🏻🎨🤠💜
Wow! I'm impressed with your painting. It's beautiful. I've a set of 40 Neo II's and got frustrated using them on watercolor paper. However, I didn't always let each layer dry. Your comment on thinking about the Neo II's more like pastels really made sense to me. I have some sanded mixed media paper on hand and can't wait to try again. Thanks for demonstrating this medium in such a practical way with helpful techniques.
Hi Janis! Thanks so much❤️ The great thing about your set of 12 is they are easy to mix in a palette & blend on paper so well🫶🏼 I hope you can expand your collection& really have fun with 12!!!
Wow! What a fantastic tutorial, as well as excellent illustration of the two orange pieces. A subject that I never would have thought to take on, but they look amazing! Thank you so very much for all the Neocolor ll info that went along with it all. I have had the smaller Neo 30, and was contemplating getting the 84 colors for Christmas this year. I'm thinking that Santa is going to see this at the top of my wish list! Thanks again for a really well done, and informative video. ;)
Hello, Lynn! You’re so very welcome! I heard a rumor that Santa has a set of 84 set aside specifically for you 🥰 🎅🏼 I hope your Christmas Wish comes true! Have a fun, art-filled week💚❤️
Hi Heather! Thank you so much! I hope you get the chance to use some Neocolor IIs-they are really super versatile and I bet you’ll even discover a new way to use them that I didn’t cover! ❤️
I like drawing and I’m learning watercolor. It was why I got this set a while ago. But I never know how to use it differently than regular watercolor pans. Now I know. Thanks!
What a wonderful video this is! Clear, easy instruction with excellent tips & tricks! I too have this set of 84, but now I have a better sense of how to use them. Thank you soooo much! I'm a new subscriber!
What a treasure trove of useful tips. Your video showed me so many new tricks to try! I always have tons of fun with these Neocolor II wax pastels, and now I am more excited. The trick with the heat gun was especially useful. I never thought about it, and cant wait to try. I am a new sub to your channel, and will look for more Neocolor II videos for inspiration. Thanks, Ann!
Thank you so much, Dianne! I have one more Neocolor II tutorial up and more coming in August. They will all be uploaded to this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLR7d_Il9GxrThsbnRv_GECK7g3dVMpugK.html You can also find my Caran d’Ache playlist under the playlist tab 😍 I’m so happy you found this useful & I hope you really enjoy your Neocolor IIs!!
Very informative..thank you. The way the piece emerged was fascinating..I have a few of these but I can see the full set in my future... enjoying your channel immensely
This was so informative and interesting to watch! Now I will try out my pristine pack of 15! And get that sand grain paper. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for this tutorial. I have a set of 18 crayons and have not used them very much. I will use them more since seeing your tutorial. I work mostly in soft pastel, it is a beautiful, but dusty medium.
Hi JoAnnA-thank you! Yes I also work in pastels-both soft and oil…these are a refreshing change! I’m so happy you enjoyed this video k I appreciate your comments❤️ If you are interested, here’s another tutorial I did using the Caran d’Ache Neocolor IIs: th-cam.com/video/zx7vMDFzVz8/w-d-xo.html Happy painting!
This is an incredible video! I’ve had the 84 set for over 4 months and I’ve struggled with them this whole time! You’ve renewed my interest in giving them another practice round! Thank you! I would love to see more of how you create with these!
I've become quite the fan of that paper. It unfortunately isn't great for chalk pastels, but it's really good for colored pencils and neocolors. With colored pencils, I find you can get good coverage without having to press so hard. And it's really cheap! Your piece here is beautiful. I love how you captured the translucence of the orange slices. That Sahara yellow is great - it's very opaque.
Hi Rita! Thank you so much! I’m very happy you found this video and I agree-this paper is really a great find! I’m happy you enjoyed the painting & the Neocolor IIs. Have fun creating art this week!!
I am noot an artist However I love my 40 set of Neocolors and next Humpday I am buying thr 84 set, I like to draw pokemon as I am learning . I also like using them in my coloring books . your oranges were Amazing Lovely .....WOW .Happy paints and art on the creek xxxxxxxxxx
This video is fabulous! After watching you demonstrate these and being able to see how they perform, I ordered the 84 color set yesterday & I’m so excited!
That is awesome!! Thank you so much I hope you enjoy playing with them! I have another video featuring these -a crocus in snow. Enjoy painting!! th-cam.com/video/zx7vMDFzVz8/w-d-xo.html
Absolutely the best representation of how to use these pastels. I had purchased a small set a couple years ago but returned them after a few days because I could not find a good way to use them. I think I will give them another go!
Oh good! I vote yes give them another go! They took me awhile to get used to as well. They do have a bit of a learning curve. I bet you’ll end up loving them!!❤️
I am so sorry to ask about anything other than your beautiful piece and mesmerizing tutorial, which I am using over and over as I learn this medium, but how...your make-up! Would you mind sharing your blush and lipstick brand/colors and anything else you feel helps create this look? They are stunning on your lovely face and I think we have similar coloring x

Thank you for sharing your Neocolors. I enjoyed watching your painting come to life as you explained how to create the wonderful visual effects. You are a very talented artist and teacher! You might enjoy the CREATIVE ART MATERIALS Caran D'ache Palette Aquarelle. It has a smooth and a rough side and is an excellent tool for creating watercolors off the paper so you don’t have to worry about blending out the original lines. I bought it for my Derwent Inktense and other sticks of color 😊. I love using it and experimenting with color mixes. Have great week! Fran
Hi Fran! Thank you so much❤️ I’m so happy you enjoyed this video! Thanks, too, for the recommendation - I will definitely check into the Palette Aquarelle. Sounds like a great item to review & share with the art community🤠
Ive been looking at these brushes could you tell me where they are manufactured in? Enjoyed video found the art piece very vibrant and enjoyed watching your process.. really love using the neo color 2.. have the smaller next size but really would like to get your size set.. 💛✍🎨👩🎨🇨🇦🇺🇲💛
Hi Natty! I’m so happy you enjoyed this and found it useful! In this video I used the Jack Richeson Plein Air Set of Brushes. Any set of Taklon brushes would be perfect-I also like Princeton Snap! Brushes. Richeson Art is in Kimberly, WI 🇺🇸. I’m not sure where the brushes are manufactured, but they are an American company. Her is an affiliate link to my favorite basic set of Princeton Snap! If that’s more of what you’re looking for: amzn.to/3uty5Al Happy painting! Please let me know if you have any further questions-I’m happy to help 👩🏻🎨❤️
Why did I not think of using a heat gun? Or just a „damp“ brush? This is honestly the most useful video I‘ve seen for this medium. I have 20 pastels and I ended up disappointed everytime I used them as crayons. They worked fine as „watercolor“ but that wasn’t the point of getting them 😂. This gives me ideas!! Will buy 10 more colors to supplement mine and give them another try. Thank you so much!
I am so happy you are here and pleased that you got some good information from this review. I hope you continue to enjoy my channel! 🤠💕💕
I’ve just bought the 15 piece set and would not have been able to do what you have achieved as I wouldn’t have known to do the layers of different colours x
@@artonthecreek I also have the museum quality w pencils and love them. You inspired me to get out my neo II but keep them away from heat or sun which causes them to break easily. Just an fyi for your subs as you probably already know lol
Hi there! Great question 🤠! These are not like the Daniel Smith or American Journey watercolor pigment sticks. These are a water-soluble wax crayon. They perform more like a gouache, although transparency is possible. Hope that helps…I really enjoy this versatile media👩🏻🎨
I have a very small set on my wish list but I'm not a water color artist so it would only be used once in a while. I was glad to hear you mention during your swatching that they're not perfect in terms of seeing the initial lines. It helps me figure out if I really want to spend the money. They will stay on my wish list a bit longer, I think. Tfs!
Hi Craft-V! These are very versatile and don’t need to be used with water, as you probably gathered from the review☺️ I’m happy to hear the swatching portion helped you make a decision about the Neocolor IIs. Good news is since they are sold individually, you could get just a few then play with them to see how you feel when creating ! I appreciate you🤠 Thank you for watching & commenting❤️
I have been wanting to buy these pencils but not sure which ones to buy. Dud you ever review all Caran d'Ache I just read that the company that makes these pencils have been around since 1915, from Switzerland. Amazing.
Hi there! Caran d’Ache is a well-respected name in art supplies. With a great history! The only product of theirs I’ve encountered so far that I’m not crazy about is their pan gouache. Just my opinion..it depends on what you’ll use it for (as is true with most art supplies!😁) I haven’t reviewed all Caran d’Ache products but I do have an ongoing colored pencil comparison going on & Caran d’Ache Pablos & Luminescence are compared in that playlist. Here is the link if you are curious: th-cam.com/play/PLR7d_Il9GxrQ1vvFx9fnCE4izAWhFb17A.html I first encountered Caran d’Ache through their Neocolor Is. These Neocolor IIs are amazing-water soluble and incredibly versatile. 🩷🩷
Hi Karen- Thanks for watching and commenting! At about 00:40 through 1:54 I swatch the entire set. I’m not sure which yellow you’re using that isn’t as opaque. There are several different yellows available, and the one I used that is more opaque may have been a different one than the one in your set. I know that’s not super helpful…I’m happy to send you photos of my swatches via email if you like so you can see them more closely. My secure email is artwithnonna@gmail.com.
You said that they care about customer service and they’re wonderful to work with, but I can’t even get a hold of them. I need to know what kind of a fixative I can use on top of the neo color I and the neocolour II that’s archival. It’s nice to see an artist working with these, most videos are done by crafters.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your comments. I’m sorry you’re having trouble getting through to the company for assistance. I unfortunately don’t work for or represent any products or dealers so I’m unable to help you with that. What I can tell you is that you may not need to use a fixative at all. I will often refer to Wet Canvas when I have questions like yours & typically find good answers. Here is a link to a discussion about fixatives and Neocolor IIs. I hope this is helpful to you: www.wetcanvas.com/forums/topic/which-fixative-to-use-on-caran-d-ache-neocolor-ii-if-any-at-all/ If you are interested in a fixative for the Neocolor Is, I use Sennelier Fixative for Oil Pastels and have had success with it. Cheers!
Hi Elle! Good question-thanks for asking. The term “painterly strokes” refers to artwork that has visible brushstrokes in the finished piece. Painterly strokes give artwork texture, dimension & movement. It’s a looser style artists use to create expressive, dynamic pieces of art.
@@artonthecreek oh! Now I know what to call those strokes I love with oil, which I don’t do but always wish I could touch in the art galleries! Thank you! I love that style in oil but I think I’m more picky about it in watercolor. I did love your final result with the oranges.
I loved this tutorial/review! If I want to lay this on my scanner to bring it into my computer, do I need to apply a fixative? If so, which would you recommend?
Thank you, Kelly! I’m glad this was helpful to you. You shouldn’t need to apply a fixative to the Neocolor IIs, as I understand it. Here is a link to a discussion on the topic on Wet Canvas: www.wetcanvas.com/forums/topic/which-fixative-to-use-on-caran-d-ache-neocolor-ii-if-any-at-all/ If you do decide to go with a fixative, I would use a brush-on acrylic varnish and try the process on a test-swatch first. I hope that helps!❤️
For my art style I really prefer for the pencil lines to be visible, so I struggle a lot with water-soluble products that dissolves easy and mess my drawing up. I want it to make my drawings better and faster instead it creates blotchy watercolor effect. 🙄I want the cross hatching to be visible. One of my favorite artist actually cross hatch with gouache, looks amazing.
I’ve never seen cross hatching with gouache that sounds super interesting! I never mind the pencil lines, personally. I think they add to the work. I do like to address how to remove them because it seems a lot of artists prefer to not have them showing. I think it shows the process more, which I personally am very interested in. Have you tried a General’s layout pencil to do your sketch? Or a Derwent Inktense outliner pencil? Those might be less “smudgy.”❤️
I’m in Parker! I have let my Parker Art Guild membership lapse, I’m embarrassed to say! There is such a vibrant art community in Parker, Castle Rock & the Sprigs. We are fortunate! Never say you’re “just” a hobbyist! I will cheer you on no matter where you are in your art journey❤️ Nothing wrong with hobbies. They keep us sane!
I’m so happy you like the Neocolor IIs, Janet! You are correct, the set of 126 is no longer available. I’ll see what I can find out for you regarding when the stopped making that and circle back!💖💖
Janet I heard back from Caran d’Ache. Unfortunately the response isn’t that helpful. Here is what they said: “Caran d'Ache retired 42 colors of the Neocolor II products a few years ago. The set of 126 is no longer available.”
Your painting is absolutely gorgeous! I enjoyed your commentary---your excitement about this medium is contagious! I've had the 84 set for about a year now and haven't used them much, so I'm so happy to find a video like yours that really explains how to complete a painting with them. I have a question: you emphasized how important it is to let each layer dry. Do you just wait for each layer to air dry, or do you use the heat tool? It seems like the heat tool would melt them (because you mentioned that the heat tool allowed you to blend with your finger). so I'm a little confused about how to dry between layers. Again, very beautiful impressionistic painting, and thanks for posting!
Hi Holly! Thank you so much for commenting & I’m so happy you enjoyed this video & found it helpful. The Neocolor IIs sure are fun! I would say you could let your piece air dry between layers or use a heat tool. As in the video, a heat tool can be beneficial for blending as it softens the pigment. I’m also impatient lol so I typically opt for a heat tool😁 You can’t hurt anything as long as you keep the heat tool moving and keep it at a distance from the paper. I have 2 heat tools-the Ranger Heat It Craft Tool is more gentle than the Wagner one I have. I’d recommend the Ranger version on something like this. (Can’t remember which one I used in this video) I hope that’s helpful! Happy painting and let me know if you have any further questions 🤠
@@artonthecreek thanks for your reply! I was so inspired last night, I swatched all my neocolor 2's and started painting flowers with them today! so fun!
Hello, I have the Caran D' Ache 20 Museum Pencils, which are fantastic, please can you explain is it a good idea to invest in the crayons as well and if so why. Many thanks.
Hi Mike! Thanks so much for your question! The Museum Aquarelle pencils are beautiful-I have a few individuals and love their rich pigmentation. As watercolor pencils go, they are very nice and I’ve never had any problems with them. The Neocolor II crayons are a slightly different media. The pigment deposit is more intense-I would liken it to using tube or pan watercolors as compared to the watercolor pencils. The Neocolor IIs would allow more versatility, in that they can be used quite similarly to an oil pastel with the added advantages of blending with water, no fixative necessary, and layering lighter colors over darker ones is possible. I have not done a direct comparison, but I am betting the white of the Neocolor II would be slightly more opaque than that of the Museum Aquarelle. If you are curious, I would recommend trying a set of 10 or purchasing a few colors you use most often. Lyra also makes a water-soluble pastel (Aquacolor Crayons-smallest set is 12 crayons) at a bit more approachable price, however, the pigment payout is noticeably less vibrant than the Neocolor II. They are fully mixable and last a long time. You might decide the set of 10 is all you need🤠 A set of 10 Neocolor II would run around $15-$20. I hope that’s helpful!
Hi Sherry! I’m so happy you enjoyed this tutorial, thank you! Funny you should mention that-I am currently working on some Ampersand or Aquaboard or the like…I’m testing several different ways! When I have enough footage I will post the video ❤️
@@artonthecreek I have been working on this combination for about 5 years now. I don't do tutorials but I'm glad to share what I've learned if you contact me. 😀 there was precious little info when I started!
There’s not much out there period about alternative substrates for watercolor. I have a secure email, artwithnonna@gmail.com. Feel free to reach out any time! Thank you❤️
Hi Linda! Thanks for your comment! I will leave that up to each individual artist. I have no problem using baby wipes here and there. I also use cotton rags, Swedish washcloths or paper towels. For me, that is my choice. I encourage you to make whatever choice is right for you❤️
Always trying to find out a substitute for what has to be used, and is suposed to be more difficult. Watercolour is th classic medium Learn how to master it as artists of the past.
Hi Antonio! Thanks for your comments! Caran d’Ache Neocolor IIs are a different medium than watercolor. They are a really excellent alternative to gouache or pastels for those who are interested. Have fun creating this week & thanks for watching! 🤠❤️
You just ruined your paper. Babywipes are not archival or acid free and also not biodegradable. It would be nice if artists would be more attentive in reducing unrecycleable landfill waste. Other than that the picture is very nice.
En 25 minutos hacer esa obra de arte , genial. Sé que se tomó más tiempo hacerlo porque se puso es acelerador. Gracias por la magnífica demostración de los materiales saludos de Ciudad de México 🇲🇽 ❤❤

Yes! I’m aware of that textured palette! It’s a great tool-thanks for mentioning it-I didn’t cover it in my tutorial🩷
A plastic cutting board works as well. 🎨
@manuelapenela1924 yes, it would!

Your demo piece is lovely !
Thank you for a very nice tutorial on using Caran D'Ache Neocolor II. 🙂
Hello Trond! Thanks you so much for watching and commenting❤️ I’m happy you enjoyed this demonstration. Have fun using Neocolor IIs! 🎨 🖼️
i had no idea how to use these and I have a large set. I learned so much from you.. I can't wait... thank you
Hi Christine! You’re so welcome! I hope you enjoy your Neocolor IIs for many years to come❤️👩🏻🎨
Best tutorial for these I have ever seen. Thank you!

great tutorial! Finally, I know what to do with these pencils ❤
Hi Renii! Thanks so much I hope you continue to really enjoy your Neocolor IIs!
Just bought the set of forty! Can’t wait to use them. Thanks for an informative tutorial.
Wonderful! Thank you so much and enjoy your Neocolor IIs!
I would love to see an in depth with the Pablos.
Hi Travis! Thanks so much!
I will be the first to admit I am not too proficient in colored pencils. I am comparing brands, though, because I have come to dislike the crumbs I get with Prismacolor Premier. I’m searching for my 🦄 😁
I do have a playlist comparing several colored pencil brands, which is still growing! If you are interested, here is the video featuring Pablos is here: th-cam.com/video/1wA87c4yOqY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wMeyretWEiVDPuNJ

Thank you. A lot of people don’t know, used dry, you can blend them beautifully with a blending stump & use them on any surface. You can pretty much do the same thing with these as regular pastels.😉 Adding water is the big plus.
They are a very versatile, very fun medium!
Thank you very much 🌸 I love the painterly style, but can’t work with oilpaint. That is a very good option! Pastelmat is also a good paper for that, by the way
You’re so welcome! Yes, pastelmat is excellent paper!
I ordered a few singles from The Merri Artist in Oregon, USA to try them out. They are arriving Saturday.
Hi Sue!!Thats exciting! I hope you really enjoy them!! Have fun!👩🏻🎨🎉💜💜
I have seen them defined as a “water-soluble wax pastel.”
I hope that helps!👩🏻🎨🤠💜
Thank you very much. Great tips for this product. I got a few for Christmas and look forward to working with them more.
Hi Jan! That’s wonderful! Enjoy your new Neocolors!👩🏻🎨🤠
Thank you so much, DeeAnn! I’m so happy you found this video useful😃 I hope you can use your Neocolor 2s more often now❤️
Now I understand that it is a very versatile medium. And easy to use.
Very easy! I hope you continue to use them!💜💜
Lovely. I really like these. Only got 12 at the moment but want more.
Hi Janis! Thanks so much❤️ The great thing about your set of 12 is they are easy to mix in a palette & blend on paper so well🫶🏼 I hope you can expand your collection& really have fun with 12!!!
I like the marks. Gives it texture and freshness
Thanks Jacki!
I heard a rumor that Santa has a set of 84 set aside specifically for you 🥰 🎅🏼
I hope your Christmas Wish comes true!

Now I know. Thanks!
You’re welcome! I’m so happy you found this useful! Have fun adding Neocolor II to your list of talents 💗👏🏼👏🏼

What a treasure trove of useful tips. Your video showed me so many new tricks to try! I always have tons of fun with these Neocolor II wax pastels, and now I am more excited.
I’m so happy you enjoyed this video k I appreciate your comments❤️ If you are interested, here’s another tutorial I did using the Caran d’Ache Neocolor IIs:

Thank you so much, Lorraine!
I love how portable they are! I have a little tin I have some of mine that I broke into smaller chunks so I could fit more colors. Love!
Excellent! Yes you can absolutely break them and use them directly or activate them with water & a brush! So happy you enjoy them!
This is an incredible video! I’ve had the 84 set for over 4 months and I’ve struggled with them this whole time! You’ve renewed my interest in giving them another practice round! Thank you! I would love to see more of how you create with these!
Hi Tia Marie! Thank you so much! I will bring these out again for sure😁 I’m so happy this video inspired you!💕
I've become quite the fan of that paper.

Are these basically watercolor sticks? What are they made with, oil, wax? Thank you

Dud you ever review all Caran d'Ache
I just read that the company that makes these pencils have been around since 1915, from Switzerland. Amazing.
Hi there!
Caran d’Ache is a well-respected name in art supplies. With a great history! The only product of theirs I’ve encountered so far that I’m not crazy about is their pan gouache. Just my opinion..it depends on what you’ll use it for (as is true with most art supplies!😁)
I haven’t reviewed all Caran d’Ache products but I do have an ongoing colored pencil comparison going on & Caran d’Ache Pablos & Luminescence are compared in that playlist. Here is the link if you are curious: th-cam.com/play/PLR7d_Il9GxrQ1vvFx9fnCE4izAWhFb17A.html
I first encountered Caran d’Ache through their Neocolor Is. These Neocolor IIs are amazing-water soluble and incredibly versatile. 🩷🩷
Thank you!!!!
You’re so welcome!
I only have a small set right now, but my yellow is nowhere near as opaque as yours. Do they vary in opacity like watercolors?
Hi Karen-
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I hope this is helpful to you:
www.wetcanvas.com/forums/topic/which-fixative-to-use-on-caran-d-ache-neocolor-ii-if-any-at-all/
If you are interested in a fixative for the Neocolor Is, I use Sennelier Fixative for Oil Pastels and have had success with it. Cheers!
What are painterly strokes?
@@LCLand you’re welcome! The Neocolor IIs act a lot like gouache. They can be worked with a broad range of techniques!
Here is a link to a discussion on the topic on Wet Canvas:
www.wetcanvas.com/forums/topic/which-fixative-to-use-on-caran-d-ache-neocolor-ii-if-any-at-all/
If you do decide to go with a fixative, I would use a brush-on acrylic varnish and try the process on a test-swatch first. I hope that helps!❤️
Thank you
You’re so welcome!

Using the set of 15 was so much fun that I went ahead and purchased the full set of 126 some years ago. When did they discontinue this set?
I’m so happy you like the Neocolor IIs, Janet!
You are correct, the set of 126 is no longer available. I’ll see what I can find out for you regarding when the stopped making that and circle back!💖💖
Janet I heard back from Caran d’Ache. Unfortunately the response isn’t that helpful. Here is what they said:
“Caran d'Ache retired 42 colors of the Neocolor II products a few years ago. The set of 126 is no longer available.”
Also, how do you sharpen them? Thank you so much!
Easy peasy! I use an exacto knife. Save the shavings in a palette..that’s good pigment you can activate with water; no need to throw it away!
I’m also impatient lol so I typically opt for a heat tool😁
You can’t hurt anything as long as you keep the heat tool moving and keep it at a distance from the paper. I have 2 heat tools-the Ranger Heat It Craft Tool is more gentle than the Wagner one I have. I’d recommend the Ranger version on something like this. (Can’t remember which one I used in this video)
I hope that’s helpful! Happy painting and let me know if you have any further questions 🤠

Hi Linda! Thanks for your comment! I will leave that up to each individual artist. I have no problem using baby wipes here and there. I also use cotton rags, Swedish washcloths or paper towels. For me, that is my choice. I encourage you to make whatever choice is right for you❤️

those are mandarines, not oranges! :D
😂🙌🏼 Have fun using the Neocolor IIs, Angelo! Here, we call them Clementines. 🧡🧡🤠👩🏻🎨
@@artonthecreek Thank you.
You just ruined your paper. Babywipes are not archival or acid free and also not biodegradable.
It would be nice if artists would be more attentive in reducing unrecycleable landfill waste.
Other than that the picture is very nice.
Thanks for your feedback
Agreed, a washable microfiber rag is a better option for many reasons.
En 25 minutos hacer esa obra de arte , genial. Sé que se tomó más tiempo hacerlo porque se puso es acelerador. Gracias por la magnífica demostración de los materiales saludos de Ciudad de México 🇲🇽 ❤❤
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed this video. I hope you get a chance to use some Neocolor IIs and create art this week!
¡Gracias por tu maravilloso comentario!
