Brett Stewart always gets slept on.
    4 Grand Finals
    2 Premierships
    1 WCC
    8 Origins
    1 Test
    163 tries
    233 games
Injuries held him back big time, as was playing in the same era as Slater and Mini.

Don’t change the 4 man bench. Would spell the end to the new position of 14. You’d have a more dedicated backs and or forwards as opposed to hybrid players

I disagree on the Ponga shout, not because he's undeserving but because Teddy deserves a proper farewell. If Teddy was out of form I would agree but Teddy has easily been the best fullback across the season and has earned his chance to have a proper farewell. Once that is done I agree Ponga is the go.

Segment request: great chat around Nichi and what he needs to do to roubd out his game/hit his peak. Would be great to use this lens on all maquee players. I.e has mubster hit his ceiling? What else can nathan do? DCE has a year left, ehat does he need to work on to be his best befire he retires. Thoughts @BlokeInaBar ?

My hot take is that Billy would have picked Ponga at FB this year if fit. I’ve been saying since last season Ponga should be QLD and Australian #1. For what Walsh has in speed, Ponga has him for footwork and strength. Seriously underrated how often he just makes line breaks from kick returns.

Hey lads, question of the week for ya.
With interest of the footy dying down around the mid season, what are your thoughts on a 2 week break where the nrl host a “magic round” type tournament but for nrl 9’s, with the winning teams getting a few extra $$$ to their salary cap or some other incentives. Do you think big teams like the panthers and storm take advantage of this and stack their teams to win, or take the 2 week break to freshen up their players for the premiership and blood some youngsters? Do you feel like the bottom teams have more of a chance at “winning” and getting a bit of a leg up come the next season?

Facts lol, there’s not really a particular way to beat the storm. You kinda just have to hope they make mistakes and don’t complete sets, and you complete more sets and have more possession than they do lol. They easily have the most complete archetype of footy this year offensively and defensively. Right edge is the only really weakness kinda thing roosters could maybe pick out

Afl games - mostly played in the daytime in the afternoon. They do this all year. It becomes a spectator sport. Something that’s on that day.
People become invested in it all year so come finals time it’s a forgone conclusion people will go.
NRL let the tv deals set when games are played for the advertising dollars. Fair enough. But it’s why people prefer to stay home and watch because that’s where the NRL puts their emphasis

I think it'll be a lot close than that to be honest. Penrith 1 - 12 if they win, but sharks have a chance for sure. But Jarryd had everything, speed, power/big frame, ball playing of an elite Halfback, freakish footwork and could score individual tries as good as anyone. Played in a talented but never world class Parramatta Eels team and was their shining light for a lot of seasons. His back end 2009 season is the best Football i've ever seen from any player.

It's funny with regards to Ponga saying he doesn't want to play pacific cup so he can focus in the knights 2025 season & now he's copping it from the media to say its a disgrace and it's contractual with possible suspension.
Yet every other week the talk is about how long the season is including origin, rep footy at the end of the year. Player burnout / welfare and now we have a player bringing that to the fore front to I guess rest, reset and focus on his own game for his club who is paying him and the media have just changed their angle on things.
The media and some fans have such a short memory of opinion and what's "right" for the game, their not commodities their human beings.
Media are there for a story but it's a bad look when ex players are part of it throwing current players under the bus like that.

I think the criticism with Nicho is similar to the criticism Cleary gets for not ‘dominating’ origin.
Especially with Moses coming in and doing it, there’s so much pressure on Cleary now. Even if he plays well and nsw lose he will get criticism. It’s abit like hynes as trindall definitely took a bigger role and they subsequently won so the narrative is ‘why can’t hynes dominate a finals game’

Tigers have had a lot of young talent playing above their age group this year. With players like Galvin, Latu, TDS, Mason, Kit, and Luke Laulilii, along with Miller, Large, and Makasini all stepping up across multiple grades, it highlights the depth and potential of the club's junior system. If the SG Ball and Flegg sides were at full strength with players sticking closer to age-appropriate competition the years results would have been completely different. Developing these young players through tougher competition now might really pay off in the coming years. How do you think this will shape their performance in the next season or two? Especially with how they have recruited really focused on good value 2 year deals. It seems clear they finally have a 5 year plan.

It’s about the depth of the game mate. Soccer is similar as well. Much better to watch live. As seeing what’s off the ball is important.
In league it doesn’t really matter what’s happening off the ball.
It would only be natural that because AFL is a better game live more resources are put into the live experience.
Not to mention the numbers back it up. NRL out rates the AFL by a fair margin. Because the market has spoken people want to watch it at home.
Theirs clearly a huge audience that could fill out every stadium every round. But they don’t they choose to stay home.
I don’t think it’s because the game announcer or half time shows are boring. You can dress a live experience up as much as you want but it’s the actual game most people come to see.

I agree with all points bloke made in the reply here but also cost is huge. The cheapest tickets for the afl on the weekend was I think 20-30 dollars when the cheapest for the nrl was around 60 bucks and for a product that gives you the best seat in the house at home, it doesn’t make for a convincing purchase

So on the Garrick conundrum, here’s the low down. We swapped Koula because it made no sense for our attacking game plan to have 2 speedsters on one edge (Koula and Saab) and 0 on the other edge. Last season we were really one dimensional in our spreads because Parker and Garrick aren’t going to go the length by any means. Saab had a significantly better attacking season this year as a result and in general we had more line-breaks
HOWEVER, for me the amount of tries we conceded from breaking up the right edge defence far outweighs the advantages it has. I completely understand why we did it, Garrick is really good in attack at centre but I have so much confidence in whatever side we pick being able to score point, I really would just be picking the team that can keep the most out
I think the bigger question heading into the off season is what do you do with 6 first team outside backs? We played Koula off the bench back end of last season but that won’t be the plan next year with Tevanga as our 14, so what do you do? Wouldn’t be surprised if we let one of them go in the off season, and given Garrick only resigned to play centre and that’s quite clearly not the answer…

@dustinmartin6524 if they don't want two speedster one edge then play Saab (2) and Talau (3) on one edge and Koula (4) and Garrick (5) on the other.
Talau is a better centre than Garrick and Garrick is a better winger than Talau.
      DCE is the defensive liability

@@jaromeasdale7157 You can’t drop Lehi, he’s seemingly the fullback once Tom retires so I doubt we’ll make him play NSW cup. Also worth considering we have Vaega, Paulo and Faulolo in the squad so we have depth in that position anyway. I think offloading an outside back works best for everyone, need another proper forward rather desperately

In live attendance and membership it's no contest, AFL wins hands down, but in ratings/viewership, NRL wins.
