Over 15 years ago, I got in an online argument about Jeff Waters. A local "writer/metal music critic" said that Waters was not a good lead guitarist, that he was just a decent rhythm player. Clearly this guy never played guitar. Jeff Waters is a master. Great cover by the way!
Jeff waters’ lead guitar is better than most other top of the bill lead players. He has pretty complicated but very melodic phrases in his solos. The guy obviously doesn’t know shit about guitar

Jeff Waters is not mentioned nearly enough when it comes to the best metal guitarists, especially of the 80s/90s thrash scene. Just an amazing songwriter and some of the most virtuosic playing for that time period.
Damn I should probably get more into Annihilator. Jeff Waters is a fucking genius. That man masterfully crafted two equally tasteful riffs into one song, those being the verse and chorus riffs. Then he wrote and performed a solo worthy of giving the other master of tasty thrash solos, Marty Friedman, a run for his money. THEN, because he wasn't done, he added multiple clean parts and interludes with harmonies, also recording everything other than the drums and lead vocals (but writing everything of course). This song in itself should earn Waters a spot in all discussions about great metal musicians. And credits to you for transcribing the whole song with easy to follow tabs along with a high-quality video to see your picking patterns and fingerings as well.
