With so many builder videos to watch on TH-cam, I've settled on just two .. Perkins Bro's and Jays Way .. Seriously the energy, and brotherhood goes beyond the work of building .. Thank you for letting us build with you ..
I really liked the way you got the fascia on and straight and level. It was fun to watch! I like to watch you getting things right! The way you make decisions is really a mixture of madcap and exactitude. How you solve problems is really striking!
This 76 year-old lady can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy watching the construction. My daddy was a carpenter and so was my grandpa and my uncle and my older brother and it brings back such fun memories of going to their works sites.
Man, I remember at the beginning of this series y'all were talking about how long the framing alone would take, and you were not kidding. 50 episodes in and there's still a whole nother floor to frame and roof! Loving it though, the craftsmanship that goes into making rock solid framing that helps the build later on is invaluable to see and document
You didn't even know you knew, but you knew, that's how much you know. - Jason to Eric So deep, so intuitive. We are all so blessed to be amongst his greatness. #jaysway
You guys are hilarious....and smart all at the same time. I'm a project manager in commercial construction, and deal with drawing issues daily, almost hourly. You all cope with these issues so well, with some laughter mixed in. That's hard to do sometimes. I really enjoy your videos.
I have watched many Perkins Brothers videos ( not just this series on this house ). I agree with all of the positive comments and praise from so many people. I would like to add that one of the things I like is that both bosses -- the brothers -- very often take on the most difficult and/or dangerous tasks themselves. They don't try to find someone else to do it. They just do it. Great leaders.
Best Lines of the of the video. Jamie: "It's got to hold the roofer and 4 of his best buds." Jason: "You didn't know what you knew but you knew it." Love the content. Happy Holiday fellas.
If those flat roofs are going to be EPDM Rubber or White TPO membranes, the roofer can install tapered insulation/cover board to create the slope. As a roofer, we like built in slopes, but if you have to cut boards to get it, the tapered insulation is much easier.
For the front of the garage, I don't see why they couldn't just raise the inner part a bit to create the slope. They don't need to be straight from the wall and in.
@@Davey768 I think you'd want to be straight on the bottom, so you'd need to add blocking to fasten the soffit. What they did is a perfectly suitable solution, it's just that the roofer could add the tapered insulation and there'd be no need for cutting or blocking.
@@jamesgroff2512 Oh, right, didn't think about the soffit. But then again I doesn't have to be flat on the bottom, I'm assuming it won't be on most of this house.
Ah. You guys are great. We got two (2!) "Thanks for building with us!" :) BTW, it's really amazing to see how you quickly adjust your plans and innovate (as with Jamie (Jaime?) did with opening that door) to meet the needs of your client. Incidentally, I really enjoyed watching the latest compiled video (of Ramelle's house.) I watched the original build series but it was just as enjoyable to watch the whole build altogether. Watching them each way has its advantages. Thanks! Be sure to always let us know when these become available. I think I've missed a few. Now I need to go back and watch those.
In my 30 years of building and renovating, the Perkins Builder Belt has been the most comfortable belt. Reaching for tools and hardware feels natural, and it didn't take long for muscle memory to kick in. The hammer sling is my favorite...
Lmao i get a good laugh every time I watch this build & Jamie has an eagle eye it's as good as a string line !! Yal do awesome work because yal take pride in your trade !! That good to watch !! Everyone stay safe & have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY
Did you install some of them upside down? Put the 3/4 inch runoff on the bottom? Also, here a cantilever requires 2 feet in for each 1 foot out so you would need 8 feet in, and you have a little under 6.
Go back to relaxing music I watch your videos to go to sleep it’s relaxing 🥹🤣😭 you guys make me laugh and lift my spirits , look forward to every upload !
Hello Perkins brothers and team. My name is Jaime and greetings from Chile. I work in IT but my hobby is carpentry and I have a small workshop where I entertain myself. I really enjoy your videos and I send you all my best regards. 😃😃😃
Wow Jamie, removing that concrete lip took some work. I would have been lazy and made it into a platform step on the inside and out 😅. Someone was telling you all to lay that flooring in the correct area so you could add that overhang later 😊 Thanks for letting us build with you ❤
It's really nice to see how this is coming together. Love the overhang over the roof. If I could ever build my dream home I would probably have just about a whole car port in front of the garage or at the very least a large enough overhang to block rain and give people cover when they walk out of the garage. You've got folks with good aim for throwing and good hand-eye coordination for catching. I'm a bit envious. I can't throw or catch worth crap. LOL. I've used regular Houzz and it was what helped me plan a bathroom and laundry room reno for my house. I got some great suggestions from other users. "Get some smaller roofers!" LOL. My first thought was to hire jockeys as roofers. They tend to be lighter weight. :P Sucks that all of those diagonal braces had to be removed but hopefully they will still be used for something. "You didn't even know you knew, you knew so much" LOL. Jason cracks me up. Question: I wear like XL pants but 2XL to 3XL shirts but I have very narrow shoulders, what size of the belts with suspenders do you think would be best? How adjustable are the straps horizontally and vertically? (I'm also only 5'5" but have a shorter-than-normal torso).
I've been watching Bushradical build simple small cabins by himself and I think wow I can do that but watching you guys build such a complex house with drawings blows my mind! I learn tons everytime I watch you guys.
We watch every episode. Thank you for sharing all the fun, tips, and knowledge. We love every bit of your content. I'm saving loot for a belt for sure. You all are amazing
Hey guys love the channel, I mention once too yall when you were building the last deck, anyway I build decks in Michigan, PT lumber suks, so I measure all the joists width, stack in 3-4 different piles then start from wide boards down to your short width boards, it helps a lot, still have to plane some sometimes but when u use composite deck boards or OSB, x-factor it will help with putting your rim joists up, hopefully this helps, keep rocking guys!
On the next video in this series I want to see Erik wearing those safety glasses with a red & white striped wool beanie with a red & white striped shirt 😁. Loving this series, this home is coming along amazingly
Y'all should be really proud of yourselves building that house like the Amish build barns. They don't have cranes to help move wood around, it's mere strength of the team.
I personally am really hoping they use the space to keep taking on apprentices. Perkins is a fantastic crew to learn from, and we could certainly use many more young builders trained with Perkins ethics and skills
Given how high the garage roof is, I’m not sure a 4’ overhang will keep rain out. And Eric, glad to see you using earmuffs rather than, or in addition to, those earplugs!
Pro Tip: When you're trying to straighten a wall, use a string line set off each end by about 1". Then, in the middle, push or pull the wall in until it is also 1". I use this method on decks all the time. :)
I think you’re right about the cantilever. In my area, the building official accepted a 2:1 in vs out without an engineer. Meaning for a 4 foot cantilever, you would need 8’ attached to the joists inside.
That rafter can be done in one go if you tied a thread on the first and last rafter first and then finished the rest using that thread as your mark . .
Next time for flat roofs buy furring strips, they are specially made for flat roofs, that will avoid the extra work you had to do with the cantilever roof- just check out furring strips!
The 42 hour super cut of this project is going to fun fun fun
I mean I've watched every second of each release but a supercut is what got me watching many projects ago.
It’s going to be October 2030 before it’s done being edited lol
Haha Jamie will have bought and sold ten jeeps before the end of this beast
@@IIBundoAnd Erik will need help from NASA and Google for some extra storage and CPU grunt to render the final edit together!!!
42 hours for part 1 of the super cut.
Wow, Jaime did a really nice job of removing that concrete in the doorway!

Yup that's me
Only two you need although I'm slowly dipping my feet into Stud Pack.
Jamie: "What do you want from me?"
Erik: "Just counting. Counting would be real good"
Hilarious 🤣
Should get Jamie a sesame street count von count shirt.
@ 2:41, even the tape measure was in disbelief. 🤣
Give him a break…he only has half his fingers now.

Love the “Thanks for building with us!” from Jamie. 💪💪
