Hi Zulie, Very good presentation. I’ve been writing on Medium for a while, but I still found your advice to be very helpful. I agree no one will get rich writing for Medium, but it’s a good way to test the waters, and then find ways to branch out to other sites. As a Medium reader, I’m constantly amazed at the good advice I’m finding, e.g., writing, sales, marketing, social media, etc.
I recently started writing consistently on Medium, and I love it! Like you said it’s just so easy to get your words on to the page. I’ve tried Wordpress too, but Medium is far better👍 Thanks for sharing your thoughts💖😊😊

I'm a published writer of nonfiction memoir stories and currently writing a full-length memoir. Not sure how I will fit into Medium but I'm looking forward to engaging there. Hi Zulie, loving your content here and on Medium! I'm thinking about writing again. I loved writing in high school, but then college, and technical spec writing (I work in tech) kind of ruined it. However, I keep wrestling with the idea of writing on Medium versus my own website/blog. I like the idea of owning my own website/blog, but Medium has visibility and traffic advantages. Would love to know your thoughts on this, if you have an opportunity. Again, thanks for all your content and inspiration! It has me thinking about writing for the enjoyment of it again!

Hi, Zulie. You forgot to mention that not everyone can be accepted to the MPP because of some restrictions. There are countries that don't qualify for MPP.
Medium is a great platform even if you don't qualify for the MPP! It's better than Wordpress and Substack thanks to the ease of setup, innate discoverability, and high SEO benefits. Even if I wasn't making any money on Medium, I'd still be posting there.

I think you can start and post whenever! It doesn't really matted what you start with as long as you have the consistency to continue, at least 1/week.
Hum. I feel like medium don't really distribute my writing when I get out of the niche. Talking about WordPress. I had a blog for 3 yeas there, and my writing didn't go. When I tried medium. People finally found my content.
Hey Zulie, like someone else in the comments said, your video was was very refreshing after reading so many complaints from other medium writers. Medium has its faults, but I still think it's a great place to develop your skills and make friends, and even build a portfolio to attract future freelance clients or something similar. And yes I know some people complain about this, but I like how medium is quite left-leaning. As someone who is gay and transgender, I want to feel safe on a writing platform, that if someone writes something hateful, we can report it and that medium staff will take it seriously. So far I've seen that medium staff do take these reports seriously and remove these articles, sometimes even suspending the writer's account, which is good to see.
Hi Zulie, thanks for this video, it was exactly what I was looking for. I am relatively new to Medium and it has only just occurred to me that I could publish on there rather than attempting to maintain my own website with a blog, which is what led me to your video. I am a lawyer. Amongst other things, I provide services through an online platform which will never make me rich in itself but which does lead to the occasional piece of work which is worth a lot, so I totally get what you are saying about using Medium as a way to make money from work that comes as a result of being on Medium while also earning some income from Medium itself. I suspect the same could be said of KDP, for example, as in depending on one’s field it could be a great way to get more commissions while earning royalties rather than a means to an end on its own. Thanks for the video, I am going to subscribe and I look forward to reading your work on Medium.
This was very informative, well organized, and for the most part very objective. The takeaway or "sound bite" was that Medium is a place where you can make money, but not necessarily a "living". This could simply be another revenue stream, but not get-rich-quick scheme. I also agree that this platform is much easier than WordPress, which I am still trying to figure out is a Website Design platform or Blogging platform, either way, not a fan of WordPress outside of its really cool name. This video is definitely worth watching and I am going to assume that the information will apply to 2024 since I am watching this in October 2023.

I watched another video of yours that talks about how unfair it is not to be able to earn money on Medium with no other means, besides Stripe. I come from a country where Stripe and PayPal, aren't supported (actually, PayPal is restricted here). I wonder if Medium has allowed people who come from countries like mine to earn money on their platform? They should consider adding Payoneer as one of the payment methods. I just got one question; my niche is pretty narrow, yet I can "fit" it into many topics. Do editors on Medium publications look at what you were writing in the past or for which publications you have published before making a decision? Thanks, and keep doing a fantastic job!
Can you publish a newsletter on Medium or is Substack better for that? To me Substack seems as if it has become the place for the major talent folks. I.e. people who have a big name before they even begin to write.
I love your channel and your advice, I wanted to comment on earnings on Medium. I know times have changed and making $2,000 on medium today is harder than it was back then, but I wanted to address the $2,000. In rich countries (USA, Great Britain, Germany) it may not be a lot, but in MOST countries you can "live a really rich life" for this amount. Data from 2023: "The average global personal income is $9,733 per year." It is worth noting that this is not a "minimum" - it is an average.
How long does it take to grow on Medium? How often should you publish on Medium? I post 2-3 stories per week (4-5 min reads). Thanks for all the writing tips! Love from India!

I don't even know how to find publications in my niche and how to get my articles accepted by them. Can you please let me know how it's done? Thank you very much!
I made a video about this! th-cam.com/video/42GT00zOHfg/w-d-xo.html To get published in a publication on Medium (sometimes called "pubs") you have to be added as a writer. Pubs all have different ways of doing this. The best way is just to google "submit to XYZ Medium" or "write for XYZ Medium". You'll find a page where they lay out their guidelines to be added. Many require you to fill out a form, or send a draft link. Once you've been accepted, when you're writing a draft, you should click the three dots in the top right corner. It'll be an option to "add to publication" and from there you can submit your story to the pubs where you've been added as a writer. Once you've submitted, the pub will decide if they want the story or not and will either accept or reject it. You should get an email with their decision either way. Hope that makes sense!
Anyone else worry that they are not part of the BBB, or no big deal. They currently have an F rating but not based from many reviews ...just curious if anyone else had concerns. Thanks !
I just want to know something - I've got a ton of articles in a particular niche and I want to post articles on my WordPress - I want to put my medium articles on there. I'd like to double-dip on LinkedIn too... can I take my articles from Medium and post them there? Also, does that mess up the google algorithm?
Yes 100% cross post! As long as you indicate which is the original using what's called a "canonical link" you won't mess google up. That's just a line at the bottom of your article saying, "Hey this was originally published on [website] on [date]." with a hyperlink to the original content.

My word press site has had very few views prob less than 10 (all family and friends) as I haven't promoted it or worked on seo etc but I would like to publish my articles on medium going forward. I would also love to put the articles from my site on medium as I like them. Is it ok to do this? Is it best to remove it from my website first? or just put a canonical link? I saw your recent medium story on the start up but was quite surprised that it had a canonical link and was imported from your blog website from 5th of December; 3 of my medium stories drafts got rejected on The startup. Please tell me how can i build a relationship with publication like the startup to start accepting my stories help me please.
I've been publishing stuff on start up for years and years! It took a very long time. The best thing you can do is regularly publish high-quality content on SIU. There are no shortcuts I'm afraid. It's also possible they rejected the story for separate reasons, not because it was canonical. You can always test this by retroactively making the story canonized after the new one gets published.

Can you publish a newsletter on Medium or is Substack better for that? To me Substack seems as if it has become the place for the major talent folks. I.e. people who have a big name before they even begin to write.
I might start using medium from July after getting my bank account so that once my college starts I can try to pay college fees my own self .

I know times have changed and making $2,000 on medium today is harder than it was back then, but I wanted to address the $2,000.
In rich countries (USA, Great Britain, Germany) it may not be a lot, but in MOST countries you can "live a really rich life" for this amount.

To get published in a publication on Medium (sometimes called "pubs") you have to be added as a writer. Pubs all have different ways of doing this. The best way is just to google "submit to XYZ Medium" or "write for XYZ Medium". You'll find a page where they lay out their guidelines to be added. Many require you to fill out a form, or send a draft link.
Once you've been accepted, when you're writing a draft, you should click the three dots in the top right corner. It'll be an option to "add to publication" and from there you can submit your story to the pubs where you've been added as a writer. Once you've submitted, the pub will decide if they want the story or not and will either accept or reject it. You should get an email with their decision either way.

I just want to know something - I've got a ton of articles in a particular niche and I want to post articles on my WordPress - I want to put my medium articles on there. I'd like to double-dip on LinkedIn too... can I take my articles from Medium and post them there? Also, does that mess up the google algorithm?
Yes 100% cross post! As long as you indicate which is the original using what's called a "canonical link" you won't mess google up. That's just a line at the bottom of your article saying, "Hey this was originally published on [website] on [date]." with a hyperlink to the original content.
@@ZulieWrites Hi, in continuation from this comment, does this work the other way round? i.e can i post articles from my wordpress blog to medium? My word press site has had very few views prob less than 10 (all family and friends) as I haven't promoted it or worked on seo etc but I would like to publish my articles on medium going forward. I would also love to put the articles from my site on medium as I like them. Is it ok to do this? Is it best to remove it from my website first? or just put a canonical link? The website is sitting dormant atm so I don't mind removing the articles. Thanks in advance.

I saw your recent medium story on the start up but was quite surprised that it had a canonical link and was imported from your blog website from 5th of December; 3 of my medium stories drafts got rejected on The startup. Please tell me how can i build a relationship with publication like the startup to start accepting my stories help me please.
I've been publishing stuff on start up for years and years! It took a very long time. The best thing you can do is regularly publish high-quality content on SIU. There are no shortcuts I'm afraid.
It's also possible they rejected the story for separate reasons, not because it was canonical. You can always test this by retroactively making the story canonized after the new one gets published.
