Hey hi! I'm getting a lot of questions about how up-to-date this video still is~ The build has been nerfed a bit, but it's still incredibly powerful and popular, and you still play it the same way! If you manage to pull off the rotation perfectly, you can now expect to do roughly 40k damage, which is absolutely plenty.
I just came back after they shut down archeage. I used to do 20-25k back when I played so I followed your guid to the tee. I don't have all the gear as all I have is old school ascended vipers on everything. But even when I nail the rotation exacly I'm still only getting 15k dps on the bot. I checked settings and everything looked good. Not sure what's going on.
I just want to comment and say that the way you broke down the rotation, and explained it with slowed down visuals is amazing. I've watched a decent number of build guides, and only a small percent take that extra step to actually talk through the build (not just a text overlay), and ever fewer still make edits with slow motion clips and custom visuals. *Round of applause* 😄. Someone without years of experience playing can actually watch this and use it as a "training video" to effectively learn the build from scratch - that doesn't apply to most other build videos out there 😅.
@@Laranity please, please do more! Too often, I feel like the "why" behind the "what" is lost in build guides. You did a great job here explaining not only what to press and in what order, but also why you do it, which is a huge help toward learning a build, and especially to help you get back onto your rotation if and when you get interrupted by dodging, mechanics, CC, etc.
This is great! I also like how you told about the difference between an acceptable/easy rotation for average players vs maximizing damage as a veteran player.
Honestly, one of the best rotation guides I’ve seen. People usually just put a video of them rotating on the background and talk over it or put text on the screen. Please do more 😊
As a Condi Scourge player - this was a FANTASTIC explanation of the rotation, even adding in the new weapon. I would like to see more of these as it was easy to grasp for me.

The main culprit for Scourge's absolutely insane throughput isn't so much the Pistol and Relic of Akeem by themselves, it's the damage bonus that comes from Demonic Lore, the Scourge's Grandmaster DPS Trait. Demonic Lore bestows a 33% damage bonus to all Torment you inflict from any source, and not only does the Pistol dump out absolutely OBSCENE amounts of Torment on its own with Weeping Shots bursting out Torment on a short CD, but Relic of Akeem gives 10 seconds of Torment+Confusion every 10 seconds when you're cranking out the rotation as underlined. It's why Alac DPS Scourge isn't really *that* much stronger with the addition of the Pistol and Relic, while Pure DPS Scourge is cleaning house like a French Maid. ANet does NOT need to overcorrect by nerfing the gun, the Relic or the baseline numbers of Shade attacks, all they need to do to bring Scourge back into line is reduce the damage bonus from Demonic Lore from 33% to around 20-25% or so. It's a VERY easy fix that doesn't require absolutely neutering the spec like they did a few months ago before they touched up Sand Sage, Blood as Sand and Sadistic Searing's QoL to fit with the new Shade system. We both know Anet will nuke the crap out of the necro again though, probably not just adjusting Scourge but taking down Harbinger with it :P Or tuning it so pistol scourge still feels ok but non soto scourge with scepter gets neutered.
"all they need to do is reduce the damage of the class ability", bruh, my scourge doesn't have a pistol or relic because I didn't buy the dlc and guess what, I'm doing 0 dps. But surely the pistol and relic aren't the problem, let's nerf the class instead.
That is the clearest rotation breakdown I've seen. Definitely would love to see more of those. I've been playing casually for a bit, but only recently got into proper build crafting. Figuring out a DPS rotation has been pretty difficult and none of the guides I've found have really clicked with me. Too much dense information and when they rarely try to explain the rotation, it's usually with a 25 step list of buttons to mash. I passed up learning to read music for the same reason. Still got good at playing guitar, though. I'd love to see this for each of the other classes. Especially Warrior, which is what I play mostly. You can also hit the f5 first before you do blood is power, as the plague send buff lingers for a bit. You can play around with the trait as well, if you know you'll get condi bombed (slothasor shake as example), just eat the condis and f5 to send some of it back and f2 to clear the rest (but do if fast else you're dead, lol).
Very true!! I just kinda tried to keep it brief for the sake of making a quick guide, but you're totally right, you can play around with the BiP->F5 timing a bunch
This was so good I just spent a day collecting HP so I could train a Scourge. That graphic at 3:22 was perfect and just what the casual player needs to get started with the class.
For me personally the only thing I would change is to put dagger on one of the offhands. Pistol Torch / Scepter Dagger is how I have it. That way you aren't tied into the cooldown of shroud to transfer conditions. (offhand dagger has a transfer also). Keep in mind your elite skill is going to put conditions on you also.
I do this too! Apparently we lost a bunch of DPS from skill 4 which adds burning and torment. But I like the peace of mind that if plague sending doesn’t transfer the self bleed that I have a back up. I have done so much damage to myself just sitting with 2 stacks of bleed and no way to cleanse it
Late to the party and I do the same thing. It's just a nice piece of insurance in case F5 is on cooldown when something horrible hits, then you pop Dagger 4 and you're back in business.
new player and have been playing power harbinger till now. just have enough gold for a viper armour set and almost enough hero points for another specialisation. perfect timing for this video. thank you!!

Please please please do more build explanations like these. Those other videos show you the raw basics of what your rotation should be and nothing else. Understanding what your skills do and how they interact with each other helps immensely when you want to learn how to rotate them.
Amazing video Lara! I like how it built from basic skills to the filler skills. I have tried reading some guides and they don’t always visualize very well but this was great! One thing I was thinking about when you were discussing this video was maybe some commentary on CC skills? I’m trying to learn a new class (I mostly play scourge) and one thing that always panics me is not knowing my CC options and not knowing my condi cleanse option. Thanks for the video!
Thank You, Laranity. I'm on it. Just got took from necro through HoT and got all the remaining HP's. Then into Crystal Desert for more so I could finish all of the Scourge track. Now I'll use Wizard's Vault to get him some ascended armour and ascended trinkets (using laurels). When I've finished that no doubt the build will be nerfed but it will still have been a fun journey upgrading him.
I'm with many of the others here in the comment section. The actual rotation breakdown was great. I've played just about every "major" MMO out (WoW, ESO, FFXIV, BDO, etc.) for the past decade. But, I just started playing GW2 about 10 days ago. I'm plowing through story content (entering End of Dragons today) and already have a few crafting professions maxed and have been farming certain world bosses daily. So, I'm already at the stage of "needing" to know my build(s) better and this sort of content just makes that a lot easier. So, thank you and keep up the good work!

These are my favorite type of build videos, with nice visuals to understand rotations. And it's DEFINITELY getting nerfed! I just hope it doesn't affect Heal Scourge cause I REALLY like that build!
I would love to watch videos of you making rotation explanations because as a player that put in nearly 200h into the game after owning it a few months, I am tired of sucky sub optimal warrior and would like to find a build I can actually work towards that will help with endgame :D
Great guide, I think a good idea to either extend the Guide or expand on it would be for you to add what and when to use different Utility and Elite Skills. Like Spectral Grasp, Epidemic and Flesh Golem for example.
Loved your explanation. Though I am still nowhere near to 40k, this guide helped me to improve from 28k to 36k on average. I get why many people like the build, but it still doesn't really suit me and I will probably stick to playing Virtuoso, Mechanist or Quickness Herald, but I loved how this simple advice helped me so much.

Unless I'm crazy, I'm pretty sure there's a small mistake in the rotation, Scepter skill 3 doesn't do anything unless the target has condis, the rotation would be be same except putting condis on the target before you use scepter 3.
I wanted to play socrge and tried it after it got buffed in SOTO, but didn't get the Damage output. Thanks for making this video. Now, I ill try this out

I have serious commitment issues with games. I generally play a game for 2-3 weeks and then jump to a new one. Lately it's been like 6 games. I have never felt bad for coming in and out of GW2 and that feeling is why I keep coming back every month or two between my other games

This is probably the best tutorial I’ve seen. You do a great job of breaking it down into bite size pieces.

Thanks for explaining. Most build guides assume you have been playing the game for 1000 hours. This is one of the best I've seen.

Don't buy viper you can do verdant brink and trade 2500 parts+5g for bladed armor and get 5 out of 6 pieces. Massive money saver.

These are my favorite type of build videos, with nice visuals to understand rotations. And it's DEFINITELY getting nerfed! I just hope it doesn't affect Heal Scourge cause I REALLY like that build!
I would love to watch videos of you making rotation explanations because as a player that put in nearly 200h into the game after owning it a few months, I am tired of sucky sub optimal warrior and would like to find a build I can actually work towards that will help with endgame :D
Great guide, I think a good idea to either extend the Guide or expand on it would be for you to add what and when to use different Utility and Elite Skills. Like Spectral Grasp, Epidemic and Flesh Golem for example.
Love scourge, been playing it a ton on SotO. Definitely recommended, specially after the perspective of how much 49k really is

Loved your explanation. Though I am still nowhere near to 40k, this guide helped me to improve from 28k to 36k on average. I get why many people like the build, but it still doesn't really suit me and I will probably stick to playing Virtuoso, Mechanist or Quickness Herald, but I loved how this simple advice helped me so much.

Unless I'm crazy, I'm pretty sure there's a small mistake in the rotation, Scepter skill 3 doesn't do anything unless the target has condis, the rotation would be be same except putting condis on the target before you use scepter 3.
I wanted to play socrge and tried it after it got buffed in SOTO, but didn't get the Damage output. Thanks for making this video. Now, I ill try this out

I have serious commitment issues with games. I generally play a game for 2-3 weeks and then jump to a new one. Lately it's been like 6 games. I have never felt bad for coming in and out of GW2 and that feeling is why I keep coming back every month or two between my other games

I wonder if its worth trying out that bzuilt without the weapon and relic. Im only in the path of fire expension and playing reaper for some time so Im thinking about switching it up a little :)
