    It's a running joke to trash on Jacob at this point, but y'all make terrific points about Zaeed and Kasumi feeling never more like extra characters. Kasumi desperately needed scenes that humanized her because her loyalty mission had a very small payoff - too small for the rest of this masterpiece of a game - and that happened to be the only time she ever showed any emotion. Her lusting after Jacob the rest of the game in her weird way doesn't really count. I don't need her to be romanceable, but I'd like to see her get excited over something rather than her just, you know, talking about it. It's a shame because her loyalty mission until the end was pretty cool and unique in nearly every way, and I like her cutscenes when she gets to converse with Shepard. Wish we could get more of that than what we got. Zaeed is almost completely forgettable, and he doesn't have great chemistry with anyone, including Shepard.

    The idea is that the inside of the Reapers have unique looks, so the human reaper would be inside of a Sovereign class reaper, but on the outside they all have the same look (for the most part)

    • @UsernameGeri
      @UsernameGeri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've heard that before, and that's honestly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What, is there like a steering wheel or joysticks inside the reaper so the tiny reaper can control it from the inside? It's super dumb...
      It's honestly just a poor excuse because ME3 was rushed, and they reused the same reaper model everywhere.

    appearently talis mission with the sun was also the first seed to explain the reapers in me3, with the suns/galaxy dying too quick due to dark matter or something. thats why the crucible was never mentioned in me2, it wasnt thought off.
    thats the problem with the whole trilogy in general, its like the star wars sequels. they dont build upon each other, every game cuts so many strings and ties and tries its own thing. priorities, the overall vision and therefore stuff like characters and tone changes. each mass effect is a unique and good experience in of its own, but the series sucks as a trilogy

    • @CameronCox
      @CameronCox 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair i dont think any game or movie could truly be that fully thought out where they build on each other that strongly

    • @therealMrA
      @therealMrA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, if you wanna say Mass Effect 2 subverted our expectations then that's accurate, but from that perspective it's the mirror version of The Last Jedi, which tripped over its own feet when trying to do the same. There is a reason why I specify Mass Effect 2 when discussing my love for the trilogy, and in fact Mass Effect 2 is a masterpiece in a vacuum. 1 and 3 each struggle with too many aspects to be on the same level, even though they're both good games.
      I do wish the dying parent star of Haestrom was actually foreshadowing something else. We didn't need the Leviathon DLC and I'm pissed that it ruined the Reapers. It all felt like it came out of nowhere but at the same time was the dumbest, most obvious thing they could think of

  • @therealMrA

    Yeah it’s a brilliant sequel. The main plot is easily the weakest of the trilogy though it makes up for it with all the stunning character drama and world expanding. Definitely one of my favorite games from last last gen.
    “Heavy risk, but the priiize.”

    • @Ifitmovesnukeit
      @Ifitmovesnukeit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd agree the main plot's pretty thin, and some aspects make little sense, but ME3 has to take the prize in the "worst overall plot" regard imo. I do love some of the sub-arcs, but pulling the Crucible out of nowhere was a painfully obvious demonstration that the writers weren't able to write themselves out of a corner. Not only that, but the Reapers ignore the Citadel instead of grabbing it immediately and seizing control of the relays like they've done in every other cycle, which could be the worst plot hole in the entire series. And I haven't even touched on the ending or the fact that you spend half as much time fighting Cerberus as you do the main villains.

    • @SaberRexZealot
      @SaberRexZealot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ifitmovesnukeit maybe weakest isn’t right. ME2 still mostly works with the atmosphere and the buildup but I think the whole human reaper thing was a dumb anticlimactic reveal. ME3 is a bit of a mess but I like how the reapers were actually central to the plot this time around - made everything feel a lot more desperate and high stakes. The whole crucible plot device thing is pretty poor but I’m mostly fine with the story until the Earth mission, then it all falls apart.

    • @Ifitmovesnukeit
      @Ifitmovesnukeit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SaberRexZealot I admit I'm okay with the human reaper thing. Sure, it's a little cheesy, but it doesn't really break any lore. Are you completely fine with the Reapers not taking control of the relays for absolutely no reason in 3? I think that ME2 having the Reapers spend 2 years screwing around with the Collectors instead of just slow-tailing it back to the galaxy like they ended up having to do anyway is a pretty nasty hole, but it doesn't hold a candle to the big fat "Game Over, Galaxy" button that the Reapers inexplicably refuse to press in ME3.

    • @SaberRexZealot
      @SaberRexZealot 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ifitmovesnukeit i can forgive some of ME3’s faults due to the game’s development history - it was rushed, plain and simple, and one of the main writers left. Considering that though, I honestly think the game’s pretty good, especially compared to other rushed games like Cyberpunk.

    Mass Effect 2 is a good game- not great, because it has issues of its own- but it's an absolutely terrible sequel, and an even worse 2nd part in a 3 part trilogy of games and story.
    A great sequel, like The Empire Strikes Back, builds on what came before, and sets up the ending conflict for the 3rd part. ME2 does neither. What ME1 set up, it throws all away with contempt, builds nothing on it, and it does nothing to set up the ending to ME3. It's quite possible the worst thing that happened to the Mass Effect franchise.

    • @MrEd8846
      @MrEd8846 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I kinda always thought of mass effect 2 bringing the worst parts of 3 to life. Lol. I love mass effect 2 even though it kinda felt like the focus was more on a shooter than an rpg. But I remember seeing.... i don't remember his name. The stupid ninja guy. And just thinking...... that's not practical. And I do like 3 but there was so many problems with it and I kinda (maybe unfairly) blame 2 for that

    • @UsernameGeri
      @UsernameGeri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MrEd8846 I think blaming ME2 for ME3's shortcomings is fair, but only regarding the main plot of the reapers, and Cerberus. The reapers were completely sidetracked in 2, and Cerberus is a useless nuisance. But ME2 also did some fantastic things as well, namely the genophage- and geth/quarian stories. But it absolutely derailed the main overarching story, which led to the infamously rushed and hated ending.

    Cerberus is the best part of the series. And even at the end of mass effect 3, the illusive man is right that a champion from the human race can control the reapers. And I like that the bad guys of Cerberus are greater foils to the philosophy of the reapers than the good guy space alliance.
    That's really the magic of mass effect 2 , because the twist of being on a team who in a star trek show would be obviously a part of a finger wagging message, in mass effect are the hard time pragmatists who have to be the ones to save the universe when things are upside down. They are outsiders who believe in exceptionalism. Most of the team characters are stand outs, exceptional outsiders. And using this, the game gets the empire strikes back thing right, where the 2nd part of the trilogy should be about the other side, the underworld, and things not being as expected, doing into hades etc. Also, it's obvious christian symbolism, dying and going into the underworld to save the world. the problem is that in mass effect 3 they didnt know what to do after already going to hell and back. Just go to hell and back again but bigger?
