For Tony Scott to get an Admiral to turn around a USS aircraft carrier while on maneuvers just to get the lighting right for one scene is nothing short of insane.

what "while on maneuvers" mean? This was a active carrier. Is this what you mean or something else?
People underestimate how important lighting is, Tony Scott was an artist.
Tony paid the Admiral $25k for 5 minutes to turn the carrier. Paid out of his own pocket. $ talks!!jacking. Then the check allegedly bounced! One of my cousins was on the cinematography crew who now has a gallery in Santa Fe. Ward Russell is his name, near Old Town.

@@robert7622 Allegedly, the $25k check was made payable to the Navy, but he went off maneuvers. A cousin of mine was on the cinematography crew on 1986 Top Gun.

I saw a video where not only the director asked to turn around the carrier. But wrote a check to do it. Apparently the check bounced.
