I like how the scene in the bar reveals that Rupert is actually capable of violence. But in fact it wasn’t particularly necessary to show that. They made the right decision in the final cut of the film.
I am glad they removed the extended bar scene. I understand that they were trying to show how uninterested Rita was in Rupert, but the way the editor put this film together was perfect.
These are a great find for fans of the movie, but I can see why they were cut. Apocalypse Now: Redux had loooooong scenes that stopped the movie in its tracks and showed why the original 1979 cut was so much better without them. Editors are the unsung heroes of great movies. But thanks for the upload of these scenes!
TKOC came on cable TV today and I rewatched excitedly. Rupert and Masha have such great chemistry, I would have loved to see a prequel about the two and their comical relationship.
Insane to see this, but at the same time it was wise to leave most out. Jerry's monologue was a .99 cent joke book mess, and shit, they really painted Rita as some sort of desperate opportunist. Crazy how removing tons of the bar and restaurant stuff still allowed the later scenes to still fit when Rupert walks Rita home. On the other hand, Rupert in the basement with "Ma" and definitely Rupert's fantasies (the best scenes in the film) should've been left in.
Jerry's monologue was definitely unfunny. I stopped watching it after a short time, even though it was a rare deleted scene. That kind of unfunny monologue could never make it on an actual late night network broadcast.
Rita was indeed an opportunist: she stole a trinket from Jerry's house when they were getting thrown out. Anyway watching her screw up an entire scene starting at 12.00 is instructive: De Niro badly wanted to make this movie and his girlfriend in it even though she couldn't act. Scorcese - in the throes of addiction and professional uncertainty - agreed, as a favor but was in such a mess that some scenes were directed by Jerry Lewis just to get something in the can before the crews stopped for the day. Which is why it looks different from every other Scorcese movie before or since.
When Rupert delivers his monologue in the basement, there’s a blow up shot of the audience on his wall. I wonder if that came from the audience in the beginning.
One of DeNiro's best!! Loved Jerry Lewis playing a serious role. Just found out that DeNiro was married to the beautiful Diahnne Abbott (Rita) and they have two adult children-- now he's divorced from Grace Hightower.
Diane Abbott was the sister of Gregory Abbott who had a one hit wonder on pop radio in the 80's. She was also DiNiro's lover for many years. I think this movie is a must for any film class, warning everyone who wasn't to act or direct that it's a rough business and not the glory of being a fleeting 'star'.
This movie was not only disturbing due to the main character’s delusions and denial, but I feel like Scorcese was trying to highlight the general emotional pain that comes to all men Rupert’s age. From 30 to 35 , society expects all men to be married with a family, a home etc..The bar scene illustrated very well, the desperation and vulnerability some men who are still single over 30 who haven’t really ever had luck with the ladies go through. You feel like the whole world is wondering why you’re still alone, people are almost repulsed by your presence, and worse than that….they don’t even take you seriously. I think that is a big contributing factor to Rupert’s irrational delusions and insanity. Getting on Jerry’s show was his emotional escape/mission in life. The most ironic part of this film to me is that I nought De Niro’s and Sandra Bernhardt’s character would have been perfect soulmates for each other but in fact he did not really give her a second thought in that way. Great Film.
Rupert reminds me of a lot of guys I've met that just seemed to say the wrong thing always especially when they're around women. I've seen guys try to pick up a girl in a club many times and they have got her in the palm of their hand and then they say something to blow it. We call that a born loser . Most guys are when it comes to women . But you are right Rupert in the movie and also Sandra Bernhardt are definitely delusional and dangerous. There are fans and then there are fanatics . And those two were definitely fanatics fanatics . 😮
Glad they didn't include the dirty jokes of Jerry Lewis...I didn't find them funny at all. The scene with Rupert and his lady in the restaurant was interesting but I also thought it was better left out. It was very sad how Rita took off with a perfect stranger when Rupert was in such a passionate state talking about the most important moment of his life. Rita seemed more kind than in this scene and the other one in the bar where she mocks Rupert calling him a creep from the end of the bar with the other man coming onto her. This scene is incongruous because she knew he wasn't a 'nice man' does a nice man try to flirt with a stranger behind the back of her date? I would have included the interview with Jerry Lewis and Lisa Manelli because even in his fantasies Pupkin is unbearably self absorbed cutting her off twice in the most rude manner.
27:45: I believe this scene was inspired by/a take-off on Groucho Marx on Dick Cavette with Truman Capote. Groucho wouldn't let Capote get a word in edgewise. It's on TH-cam.
There’s an actual movie that they released without takes an extended scenes but I don’t think it’s this I think this is something different. Does anybody know for sure? Because this actually isn’t that funny

The scene with Rita and the guy from the bar seems like it's from a completely different movie.
I could have watched a whole movie of Rupert and his Mother and loved every minute. Catherine Scorsese RIP
Was she even alive or was she screaming at him to turn it down all in his head?
@@elbob17after watching this deleted scene, it’s probably all in Rupert’s head. Especially when he mentions someone named junior
I am glad they removed the extended bar scene. I understand that they were trying to show how uninterested Rita was in Rupert, but the way the editor put this film together was perfect.
Stumbling upon this is the holy grail for me. Thank you for posting.
I love these deleted scenes...it adds so much more character depth, and it's almost like a whole different story in retrospect...

Deleted scenes were invariably deleted for a reason.
This is nothing short of a treasure. Thank you so much for sharing it..
It shows you the power of editing none of the scenes added depth to the pumpkins character..many times less is more
I didn’t know about this but this is hilarious.
More Rupert Pupkin is awesome.
TKOC came on cable TV today and I rewatched excitedly. Rupert and Masha have such great chemistry, I would have loved to see a prequel about the two and their comical relationship.
I almost busted my gut at 30:52... that is the funniest thing I've ever seen De Niro do.
That whole scene is hysterical, shame it was clipped out
Morrie's wigs don't come off - even under water.
He's also in The Mission with De Niro and Jeremy Irons
Robert De Niro and friends show what pure-hearted Ambition Is. Very Good Movie. Nobara Rose
Solves the guy at the bar scene and others...Great movie, great video thanks for posting. 😀
I knew something had to be happening with the guy in the restaurant. Finally!! Thanks!!!!
Yes,wondered years ago that that scene had to lead someway.
@@richardpiva3892 It led to Morrie's Wig Shop.

@@user-tz1zo6nu3ndiahnne Abbott did a fine job of acting in this movie . You just don't know what the hell you're talking about. Chump 🤡
One of my favorite movies. This extra footage is a real gift!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Notice how light the beer was that DeNiro was drinking.
How can you tell?
It wouldn't have been real beer.
Awesome. Thank you.
The way Rupert beckons to his audience for his applause is just...POISONOUS.
When Rupert delivers his monologue in the basement, there’s a blow up shot of the audience on his wall. I wonder if that came from the audience in the beginning.

So Liza's credit wasn't for the cardboard cut-out after all

Wonderful!
I read the script and they had all these little scenes I thought would be great but here we are.
guy with rita later appeared in goodfellas - chuck low - obviously scorsese wanted to give him some more time on screen
He was quite close to Robert De Niro from my understanding. Every film he was in was with De Niro, except for his last.
The guy from the bar?
@@davidperez5089 No the guy at the restaurant who she left with
De Niro is a magician in this movie!
@13:53 Why is Rupert and Rita being stalked by the “Morrie’s Wigs” guy from “Goodfellas”? 😂😂
I read somewhere that he was De Niro’s real estate agent.
I like how Rubert totally keeps cutting off Liza.

Rita was a skeaving ass ho! Character?!!!?🤣🤣
Unique flick
9:20 Epic moment
Rupert’s schtick on the Langford show is remarkably like Howard Stern’s talk show schtick in the late 80s. Scorcese was on to something.
Tony Randell in the engagement ring scene. Lol.
That woman is De Niro's real first wife.
This version should’ve been called ‘there’s something about Rita’ because all the guys were after her
16:45 even the auto generated misspelled my man's name
Mr Pumpkin. LOL
13:13 they know each other since high school? no wonder they cut cause it doesn't makes sense
Martin Scorsese's father, Charles, siting at the bar from 8:38
@@spjfrat Yep. Good old Charles
Well spotted.
Fans of the movie will love this, but oy vey, that monologue is cringey. I need to know if Catherine Scorcese ever made brisket and kishka.

im in shock rn
The letter from Marsha is great.....but the plot of the film would have had the kidnapping at her place when he knew her address?
The announcer looks like 2000s Jerry Falwell.
The guy from the restaurant is Morrie from goodfellas😂😂
loved liza minelli's scene, too bad they had to cut it !
Poor Rita dealing with dudes fuckery. She doesn't need romance, just wants dental work.
Rita took off with Morey from Goodfellas!
BTW these outtakes would have made the movie more successful IMO.
GREAT MOVIE ALL THE WAY AROUND!
Are you drunk?
30:40 Rupert's mom is played by Scorcese's mom!
The Jerry Lewis Show....was almost excactly like this opening. ..
A pretty big chunk of this was in the movie.
Hence, "extended scenes"
@@caldoreo Oh...right.
Everyone tryin to bone rita...
Loves his Woman of Color for a love interest in this one too...
Rupert's stand-up was better than Jerry Langford.
Heck yeah. Goes to show that getting that big break can be more important than talent, when it comes to TV fame.
Jerry's 40th birthday?
Yeah, Jerry Lewis must have been well over 50.
33:03
What a lousy scene in bar,,,that tiny little whack with the cushioned bar stool,,knocked him right out....1 shot...WOW!!
Glad they eventually chose to not include it in the film, it's ridiculous 😂
Is that right caldore? Never seen b4 clip?
I never watched it b4 until last month,I would of thought scorsase had better realism skills to even keep it....lol
Maury from Goodfellas is in the movie! Jimmy I want my money
Rupert is such a cringelord..wings of redemption 1982
I don’t get the engagement ring joke. Anyone??😅
Jerry saw it like a vibrating cockring, since she pulled it from her mouth.. I think.. :)
Vibrator. Battery 🔋
Lost all respect for Rita
never had any.
Rupert. Rupert Pupkin… It’s a name that’s often miss pronounced and misspelled!
The auto-generated subtitles get it wrong at 16:48 as well.
Aren't they married in real life?🤔
they were back then
Deniro was right about trump, that he would not win reelection, and go down as one of the worst presidents ,
