    All the best for the new year davie.i,ve learned loads from your videos and tying techniques.i started of tying wet flies for the west of scotland hill lochs and as i got better instead of buying my salmon flies i started to tie tubes and some of the classic single salmon flies.i never really managed to get on many of the hill lochs this year,but, hopefully,i shall visit the galloway hills a lot more this coming season.again,all the very best davie and lets hope the ayrshire rivers recover and

    Hi Davie
    Absolutely beautifiul flies. I really like them, the profile is great. I will have to try them out, I think I will try to ty and ty some on a hook shank and cut the bend off and put a stinger hook hanging out the back.
    What is the lengths do you ty this in, and what size hooks do you use with them?
    All the best

    Davie I was recently reading an article about tying flies and I mentioned using a para loop in the tying process. Can you tie a fly using a para loop so as I can learn. I would also like to know how to be able to use ice dub as a wing case to pullover or pull forward on a nymph
    Thanks

    I was wondering if you ever substitute in synthetic craft fur to help make it weigh less and retain less water? Thx!

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael Klint Borozan,
      I have used a few synthetic furs but mostly in saltwater flies which do work fine. It certainly would be worth adding it to a few of these flies but we just need to get the right colours and lengths for them to work..
      All the very best Davie

    Hi Davie. I don't tie a lot of tube flies and the equipment I use to tie them isn't the proper stuff but I manage. The problem I keep having though is that after I spend a bunch of time and tie what I think is a beautiful and tight fly, the tube gets stuck on the needle and no matter what I do, I can't pull it off without damaging all of my work. What do you think I am doing wrong? is my needle too big? ( I'm just using a regular bodkin that I bent to fit into my vice), should I lubricate the needle? Thanks for any help.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jamie,
      I had lots of problems with the coloured tubing especially when it first came on the market.. It was very soft so it would do this with me much as it has with you as I couldn't pull it off the needle so I used a stiffer tubing especially the inner which would stop this happening..The tubing I used in the video is a solid tubing so it needs no inner and is very strong it's especially good in very cold waters in Russia and Norway..So I would recommend you using a stiffer tubing if you can source some..
      All the very best Davie..

    Someone needs to come up with a good Sub for jungle Cock, imitation or an easy make from another feather.
    Nothing worse than people not using easy to find available materials.
    Nice fly!
