I walk thru a big box home improvement store and stopped at the weatherstrip center and started looking for a common product I have used for years, camper-shell tape! Yes, generally about 1” wide X 1/4” thick with peel and stick on one side. The most amazing thing happened, an employee ask me if I needed help! (I was scared of his intentions because this never happens) Yes, I wanted a roll of camper shell tape to the 20 something kid…and silence! He said “What is that?” You know, trucks, big things and they put camper shells on the back with this sealing tape them clamp them down, go fishing, hunting, camping, all sorts of stuff. He had no idea what I was talking about, so after a 10 second awkward pause, I told him I would find it if they sell it because it can be used for all kinds of projects. He left, I found something close took it home and there was a package of NOS! Damn I am old!
Hallo I have a question, could you give me the dimensions of the box? how thick material am I working with? Wasn't a video made of it last night? Thank you in advance for your reply
Hi. I need to make a box just like this but I'm still uncertain as to how the water stays out from those seams. Is it working for you? if so, what are the "frame work" seems called? Angle iron comes to mind but I know it's not that. The box will be mounted on top of the truck and we get a lot of rain where I'm at. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
The angle pieces were bent from flat stock. I have had very little issue with water. Mostly from condensation. I drilled 2 holes in the bottom to let air in and out, and that took care of it. All seams were fully welded and ground smooth.
Could you tell me how you bent those pieces to fit inside the box? are those pieces just angle iron or just flat stock you had cut down and bent? Also, did you weld down all those outside seams?

This is an old video. 34” wide x 12.5” deep x 14” high. Metal is .080”
I like where this is headed.
I see you rerouted the filler neck line for your gas tank. Truck looks awesome!🖒
Very nice!
3:00 you just changed my life.
Brb, while I go cut apart my job box.
You do good work !!

They were metal strips that were bent to a 90 degree angle. I welded the entire seam of the box.
What gauge thickness metal sheet?
14 gauge
How heavy is the box
About 25-30 pounds I guess.
You should put these in the frankentruck playlist. Are you going to be posting more videos on her?
Thanks. I thought I did. I have some updates rolling around in my head. Lots of other things on my plate. I have been using it a lot though.
That is awesome! This is without a doubt, my favorite truck build on TH-cam!
How did you install the piano hinges? did yo screw them in?
I drilled a pattern of hole about 2-3" apart, and plug welded them. I was able to grind the welds down slightly afterward, and keep a clean look.
