    How do you localize the targets só easily? For me it's a nightmare.
    Your shkval is far from the targets but jumps to where the target is. Is this a key bind or something?

      I'm not sure what exactly you're referring to but if you can provide a timestamp I can describe what's going on there.
      If you're referring to getting the Shkval in the right general area, that comes from studying the map in the mission planner well enough to recognize all the relevant terrain features.
      If you're referring to getting a lock on a specific target, that happens automatically. You do need to ground-stabilize the camera by pressing the lock button once. After that, it'll be trying to get a contrast lock on a target automatically. Sometimes it will jump pretty far to get a lock and sometimes you'll have the camera centered right on the target and it still won't easily get a lock. This varies pretty widely based on stuff like clutter in the picture, season, lighting conditions, etc. The sun is a big factor there so if you're having trouble getting a lock, try attacking from a different direction if it's safe to do so. Otherwise, with anything laser-guided you can use "launch permission override" and launch without a lock. Just keep the laser pointing where you need the missile to go.

      @@funky-sim I think he is asking how do you find the objectives. i have the same problem. i can never find the objectives. do you just look at the map before the game and keep the objectives in mind like that? It would be great if you made a video about tactics.

      @@mehmetaligokbas3729 finding the objectives really just comes down to map study and familiarity with the terrain. Sometimes I spend just as much time studying the map as I do actually flying the mission. The longer the route and the more target groups there are, the longer it's going to take to study and plan.
      Unfortunately the objectives in this campaign are often not well documented in the mission briefings, so I look at the mission editor to figure out what they are for my videos. Once you know what the actual objectives are, you need to identify terrain features that will both lead you to your objectives and show you where they are when you get there. Sometimes you can use the preconfigured waypoints to lead you to the objectives, but I find they often take routes I'm not fond of and turn towards the objective too late for me to be able to spot and fire on the targets without being in excessive danger. So I'll often basically ignore the waypoints and plan my own route using landmarks that I'll recognize from the air.
      In the mission planner, look for roads, rivers, towns with interesting shapes, forests, rocky outcroppings, hills, valleys, or whatever else you'll recognize from the air. Study the map well enough to be able to remember what you're looking for in what order to get you close, and then remember where the targets are in relation to the landmark you're using to find them. If you need to, have written notes or printed map screenshots or kneeboard cards or whatever you need to help you keep on track.
      Actually spotting the targets once you know you're looking in the right area is often the hardest part. This is a bit of an acquired skill in DCS, but terrain, weather, and sun position are huge factors here, as well as graphics settings. Don't keep flying towards a threat too long just because you haven't spotted the targets yet. It's almost always better to turn around, create some space, and come back in for another look, sometimes from a different angle. Often after you kill one unit there'll be a fireball or smoke or at least a black smudge on the ground that'll make it easier for subsequent attack runs.

      @@funky-sim Thank you very much for explaining in such detail. Your videos and commentary have given me a new perspective. I always follow the waypoints and die. Thanks to your videos, I learned that a more enjoyable game will come out without sticking to this.

    How did you get the recording to be so clear?

    • @funky-sim
      @funky-sim  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I don't really know what I'm doing on the recording side, but I use OBS to record. I play and record at 2560x1440 and the recording is at 60 FPS in the Video settings in OBS. In the OBS Output settings, I use Simple for the Output Mode and "Indistinguishable Quality, Large File Size" for the Recording Quality. That produces really big files, like 50-100 GB depending on the duration of the mission, but the quality is really good at this point.
      I record the mission briefing and playthrough separately and use OpenShot to put them together. For the export in OpenShot, I use the Simple mode with "2.5K WQHD 1440p 60 fps (2560 x 1440)" for the Video Profile and High for the Quality setting. After this step, the quality has dropped significantly but it's good enough to help out people who are struggling with these missions. The file sizes at this point are also much more manageable at about 4-8 GB. There seems to be a bit more quality loss after uploading to TH-cam, but I think there's enough fidelity left at the end of the process to still be helpful for the target audience.

    How do you see anything on that screen? Even in your video I can hardly make out what you are locking on to. This has been my biggest challenge. I know where the enemies are, even using labels I can just never find them on the TV to lock them up and I am getting rather frustrated by it.

      There's a lot of experience involved, but there are some graphics settings that play a big role too, though I don't remember which ones they are. Try setting up a little test mission in the mission editor and maxing out the graphics settings. Find out if you can get a clear picture even if the framerate is unplayable. Then back off the settings one by one until you get back to a playable framerate and maintain a clear picture.
      Beyond experience and settings, the time of day, time of year, and weather conditions are big factors too. For example, when I go after the first group at 7:50, it's really hard to see them. If this were a winter mission in the middle of a sunny day, it would be really easy to spot those tanks. To counter the conditions, you need to study the map in the mission planner really well so that you know exactly where you expect to find targets. You shouldn't rely on the waypoints too much. You should be able to get up to about 2000 meters altitude and know where you are and where the targets should be just by looking around and spotting landmarks you've studied. Have some written notes or map printouts if you need help remembering the landmarks and where targets should be in relation to them. Then it's just a matter of starting from far enough away (15 km would be plenty), getting your camera in the right area as quickly as possible, and being patient until the targets sort of magically pop out of the background. Once you see them it's almost like you can't un-see them. If you still don't see them and you've gotten too close, just turn around, get some distance, and try again, perhaps from a somewhat different angle. It's amazing how sometimes things are really visible on the second pass that you never saw on the first pass. Once you do see something and blow it up, you've usually got a nice fireball or smoke cloud or big smudge on the ground to help you out on subsequent passes.
      If you're playing with labels, I'd recommend the dots at most. I find that even the abbreviated text labels make it hard to tell where the target should be in relation to the label.
      I really do recommend setting up a test mission in the middle of a sunny winter day. Plop down some tanks on a small island or an open area between a couple forests or something else easy to recognize. Start 20 km or so away and practice spotting those targets. Then try playing with time of day, time of year, and weather conditions and see how that changes things. If you don't want to do that, you can try the "Close Air Support - Easy" instant action mission on the Caucasus. Visibility is pretty poor on that one but at least it's a really low threat environment with a variety of targets you can practice spotting and engaging with various types of weapons. If you pop that one open in the mission editor, change the date to something in the middle of winter, and save it off as a new mission file, you should have a pretty good test scenario.
      Most importantly, stick with it despite the frustration. This game is really hard and this campaign is actually a really difficult way to start playing it. The campaign doesn't ramp up the difficulty. It starts off hard and stays that way through most of it, actually getting easier at the end. It has randomness built in to the mission selection and the contents of each mission so you won't have the same stuff shooting at you from the same locations in different playthroughs of the same mission. Some missions seem designed for you to fail so that you get dropped back to a previous stage of the campaign. Because of all that, this campaign has great replay value but it's a real bear for beginners. That's the reason I put out this campaign video series. I certainly banged my head against it for a lot of hours when I started and I hope to ease that learning curve for a few people. Feel free to reach out anytime if you need help with something.

    I was trying to play but my mission is bugged, missing triggers, wrong sequence... have you tried it recently?

    • @funky-sim
      @funky-sim  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't played it recently, but I just popped it open in the mission editor and it looks fine to me. The win trigger, loss trigger, flares trigger, late activation trigger for one of the tank groups, and a bunch of others are there. All the groups called out in the win trigger are present in the mission. When I start the mission and fast-forward time all the groups that are supposed to be moving are moving and the late activation trigger worked as designed.
      What are you seeing that makes you think it's bugged? Maybe you need to do a repair on the DCS installation.

    how do you make the cockpit be in English language rather than Russian? Thanks

    • @funky-sim
      @funky-sim  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a mod. I think it's this one: www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/722567
      I generally don't read anything in the cockpit in the Su-25T. Having the HUD in English is very useful though, and you can just change that in the DCS settings at Options -> Gameplay tab -> Avionics Language -> English
