    I may have heard the answer moving forward, more protein and frequent meals.

    Sorry for the long comment. Carnivores dealing with loose stools may require temporary Vitamin C supplementation. Elliot Overton, a pro-carnivore nutritionist in England, explains that some of his clients require Vita C along with other temporary high dose nutrients in some of his videos to overcome damages from SAD. Would a podcast with Elliot be in your channel's future?
    Elliot's priority is his clients using safe effective methods, supplements included. I agree with him that there is just way too much dogma and nuance against using supplements in the carnivore and keto communities. Micronutrients are only assumed. We only get in what our food eats and what we can absorb. Everyone's requirements are different for both macros and micros. When recovery and health are priority, temporary use of supplements can only be beneficial. But it seems to be frowned upon by those who are anti-supplements unfortunately (hurting more than helping with recovery imo).
    This is debatable but we cannot get everything we need through the diet, especially minrerals in the amounts needed to address nutritional deficiency conditions and/or for daily activity level requirements. Good examples are those with alcohol abuse, have had bariatric surgery, ate a lot of white rice, history of anorexia/bulemia. These people require B vitamins supplementation (Beriberi), especially high dose B1. Water soluble vitamins constantly fluctuate with some in the tissue, therefore it's almost impossible to test those levels. Prescription & OTC drugs and caffeine also deplete nutrients too that nobody ever talks about.
    I am no longer 100% carnivore due to me finding that I wasn't getting adequate magnesium and trace minerals. I was nose to tail, organ meats and bone broth included. Dr Paul Saladino ran into this same problem too actually with bad muscle cramps. I now include organic lettuce and daily magnesium & plant trace minerals which I was lacking when I was 100% carnivore. Cleared up my muscle cramps and occasional low energy. I also occasionally supplement with high dose Vita C ascorbic acid powder as an anti-histamine (also beneficial for skin plasticity and aging). For me personally, it should help keep my immune strong against respiratory and other infections. Lots of nutrition literature on therapeutic use and benefits of Vita C by Andrew Saul, Thomas Levy, Joseph Mercola, Linus Pauling etc. Do we get enough Vita C on an animal base diet to avoid a deficiency? Yes. But is it optimal for other requirements? Probably no. Vita C is required for collagen synthesis and especially in higher amounts for immune system when mounting an attack on pathogens.
    Some will argue that supplementation is not normal nor is it ancestrally appropriate. But neither is driving a car as a means for transportation and yet we all do it.

      While I find your post interesting I also wonder about those who have been long term carnivores like Kelly Hogan, as well as several of her other carnivore friends, who doesn't consume Liver and not as much salt, doesn't seem to be having any of the issues you experienced. Perhaps this is more of an individual metabolism issue? As mentioned in the topic is might be more related to utilization vs intake that is more of an issue. I've seen/heard it discussed multiple times that the body needs less vitamin C if carnivore. But again this might be such an individual metabolic issue it's hard for it to be a one size fits all approach.

    • @JYAN2852
      @JYAN2852 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@my-yt-inputs2580 You are absolutely right. There is no 1 size fits all. Everyone's needs, metabolic state, even genetic predispositions are different from person to person. The demonization of using supplements is exactly that, this is my main disagreement. By saying that supplements are not necessary is a blanket statement claiming that everyone who embarks on carnivore do not need them. How do we know the state of a person's digestive system is? Can they digest the foods? Do they have enough enzymes and bile acid? Do they have gut dysmotility? The benefit of supplements is that we don't require optimal digestion to absorb most of the nutrients. In certain instances an individual may need more of a particular nutrient than others.
      I am pro-carnivore actually. 80-90% of my foods are animal foods. But we can't deny that other diets also cannot promote health. To what extent that's up for debate. I hear all of the time that there is no such thing as essential carbohydrates. While this is absolutely true, one can also make the same argument that there is no such thing as essential saturated fats and cholesterol. This is also true. Our body makes these as needed from other substrates.
      We eat foods for both calories and their micronutrients. It's impossible to know exactly what comes in the foods, everything is only assumed based on nutrition facts done at one point on samples. Every cut of meat is different. Every animal is different. Every piece of plant is different. Soils are different. Humans evolved to be opportunistic eaters, meaning that we at everything and anything. Whatever we could hunt, kill, catch, trap, find, grow. This includes consuming plants in times of famine and in geographic regions where animals are scarce. While 99% of plants are not safe, some are and have beneficial nutrients. There are many levels to health. There are the diseased state, steady state, and the optimal state. Individually each state is different for everyone. Diet is only 30-40% of the equation anyhow. There are also lifestyle, stress, sleep, sun, activity levels, as well as times of not eating.

      Carnivores in nature eat digested plants, which are essentially fermented plants. A carnivore isn't necessarily 100% animal meat, fats, milk, eggs. I believe we all need at least 5% fermented plants in our diet, but we have to be careful in what plants we choose to eat.

      I am pro-raw animal foods too. In my culture we hunt for or slaughter our own animals for food too. Some parts of a cow, such as the blood, bile, joints we do sometimes eat raw immediately. But that I think that is where the issue is. Butchered weeks or months ago and frozen is not the same as freshly killed and butchered. The access to freshly butchered animal meat is near impossible for most people who do want to eat raw, myself included now where I live.

      I keep a meat locker where I can dry age whole sheep for up to a month or so. I believe raw meat and naturally occurring bacteria are healthy. I eat all the glands and organs raw.
      All these medical talks can be interesting and somewhat informative, especially for people starting out, but after the first few years I began to operate primarily from intuition and instinct.
      There is an organic holistic synergy to my approach that is beyond the scope of the keepers of the scientific worldview to fathom. I found the minutia of lab generated data was mostly useless during my own quest for health.

    • @JYAN2852
      @JYAN2852 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@SuperSabortooth I agree with you actually. Those who can stomach it raw, myself included, we just don't have a way to hunt, raise, butcher, and properly store fresh animal meat. I live in Los Angeles where it's impossible to do. I am lucky to even have found local ranchers about 2 hours drive away for me to get frozen grass fed grass finished ruminant meat, local pasture raised eggs, and raw milk. Before coming to America, mt family lived in the jungle mountains of Laos so supermarkets, refrigeration, electricity, running water didn't exist.

    • @SuperSabortooth
      @SuperSabortooth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JYAN2852 Where there is a will there is a way. There are ways to preserve meat raw without refrigeration, by making air dried jerky.
      Although fats are best raw, they can be rendered at low temperature and eaten with the dried meat to make a complete food.
      I guess I’m a unique case, having my own meat locker to keep a fresh animal every month. It’s hard work and sacrifice to live this way , but the rewards are worth it.

    35:35 "I think that's one of the beautiful things about carnivore - it should be supplement free" - Dr. Robert Cywes.
    Exactly! No plastic. No way to get yourself poisoned with processed stuff. Make everything from fresh meat. I've learned to can mean, dry meat, make great meat+water+salt soups, even ferment liver. Lovely way to live without every visiting a supermarket. Direct from the farm and can run a home on super low energy usage and very few meals per day, if any... Especially in the summer right now, hardly eat anything...

    While I respect and follow Dr Cywes I have to respectfully disagree on the protein muscles breakdown for causing elevated fasting glucose. No matter a person's BMI is or how lean we are, humans will always have around 10% bodyfat. I had this same problem when I was 100% carnivore.
    Tommy Wood and Saladino explained in their posdcasts that this is caused by physiological insulin resistance for some ppl when the muscles intentionally resist glucose. This supposedly is the result of moving too far in one direction for too long. After triglycerides are broken down as energy, the triglyceride glycerin backbone, 3 of them, get converted into glucose via gluconeogenesis. (Will and Maria Emmermich explain macros energy metabolism really well in their protein sparing modified fast lectures.) But anyhow once I began to cycle in and out of ketosis, the elevated markers that Dr Cywes talked about in his patients' labs all normalized for me.
    People on keto or carnivore can generally tolerate the sun UV skin damage probably more due to decreased Omega6 intake. This was verified by Tucker Goodrich in his podcasts through his N=1 anecdote. High intake of Omega6 makes people's skin more susceptible to sun UV damage and oxidation.

    • @Pwkoizoie
      @Pwkoizoie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was not convinced either by the breaking down of our own muscles for sugar explanation. A fat adapted person would use preferentially dietary fats or ketones for fuel and the few cells than need glucose specifically would use gluconeogenesis from dietary fats/proteins or glucose/fat stores. The body is also more efficient at utilizing carbs when on keto or zc so you don't need as much.
      Also, growth hormone is promoted by fasting, which increases lean body mass, and decreases at meal times (which seems counter to the idea of breaking down meals). Fasting increases noradrenaline that is beneficial for training as growth hormone is beneficial for recovery.
      With that logic (proteins are not stored so muscles have to be broken down for sugar), I don't see how increasing your protein/fat ratio would help, unless you eat very frequent meals and consider you can get enough sugar from protein but not from fat ?
      I tend to believe what makes the most sense but something is missing here.

With research that I have been doing Carnivore seems to be the choice to Cure an Autoimmune. We have been intermittent fasting as well. We have a 6 hr eating window and the rest is fasting..... I can eat most foods, plant or animal, but I choose to eat mostly plant based. One of the only foods I can't eat is red chili, and yet I can eat green chili if I scrape out the seeds. I've heard Dr. Cywes talk before, and he said he can't eat one apple otherwise he'll eat ALL the apples on the tree! Well, I guess that is carb addiction if it sends you out of control. But I can't eat endless fruit. I eat one or two apples, one or two bananas, or a bowl of berries, and then I'm glad to switch over to some other more protein-rich foods. So the vast majority of us can eat fruits and grains, and even small amounts of pure sugar, honey, or maple syrup. We aren't addicts, so we don't to abstain. I've been vegetarian for 46 years, and even just a few years ago they did a whole blood sugar workup (all night at the hospital) and they said my blood sugar was normal, and that's with plenty of beans and grains in my diet.

    I am trying to understand why my cbg monitor numbers are sround the clock 80s to high 90s on a carnivore diet. I heard him talking about longterm carnivores with no fat to lose having multiple inflammation markers like a1c going up. I need to get my cholesterol etc rechecked to see if they are going up too.

    What about gallbladder pain? Doesn't that signify dysfunction even if your stool shows that you're probably producing/using bile effectively.

    My BG has been high since I've gone carnivore too. High 90's, but more between 100-120. I'm more high fat and moderate protein. I can not get it down. If I increase my protein i gain weight.

    • @globaloutreach7523
      @globaloutreach7523 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So is or was Shawn Baker’s. If you don’t check insulin then your BG is useless. You’re body could be so insulin sensitive that it doesn’t need much to keep you in check. Only you can figure that out through testing.

    Your BUN *should* be high if you’re eating a lot of protein. It means you’re kidneys are properly producing urea from protein nitrogen so it can be excreted.

    So on the carnivore diet, If I am not eating enough and consume two meals per day and I feel satiated but losing muscle mass, how do I ensure that I eat enough so my body isn’t breaking down my own muscle. I cannot eat more than I am eating already. I am skinny, but I don’t know how I could possibly cram in more food (43:30) 😳

      @@ann7021 thanks For all your suggestions, so kind of you all to respond😊the reason I’m going carnivore is due to severe sensitivities and intolerances. This would include fruit and vegetables. Haven’t had any fruit in years and can only tolerate pumpkins, butternut and well steamed cauliflower. Otherwise, I eat mainly rib-eye steaks, suet, eggs and Himalayan salt. I also have to be very careful with the salt because I’ve tried sole water and it increases my bp and makes me very ill. I have had a look at chronometer etc but find it very difficult to understand how to effectively use it 🙈I am definately not tech savvy

      @@shelley4417 I’m a 200lb male and after eating 1lb of ground beef and 4-6 eggs I’m stuffed but that is NOT enough calories to maintain long term. I started using 50grams of protein powder in a shake to up my protein and calories by 350-400. I don’t add Heavy whip cream but i could if i needed even more calories. Try what works for you. Sometimes drinking a zevia soda the sweetness makes me want to eat a bit more so i use that as a hack. Good luck.

    From what I've seen the longer you eat carnivore the better health and blood markers get so I dunno and also blood work I'd only valuable if you Have a Dr that actually understands how to read it and utilize it and is open to a carnivore ketogenic way of eating instead of being paid off by drug companies to push their drugs like for my location I assure you that 98% of the Dr's would rather write you a script and get their kick back then actually try to help heal u.
