@chokman1 practicing on something soft will definitely lower the fear level, but mainly what causes fear is anticipation. you think ahead and ask yourself "what if I mess up and fall?" you're anticipating a possible negative outcome. don't do that. be confident. visualize your move and sticking it, then do it just like you visualized it. confidence and not thinking about unnecessary stuff is key.
@BenCorryPK YES, thanks for the encouragement! But what was your method of getting it? I think maybe trying to get the motion and then slowly getting more and more horizontal?
EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey br, I am a co-captian for Men's Club Gymnastics at the University of Kentucky and I just wanted to say thank you for all of the detailed videos. I have used a lot of the instructions you have given to teach many students how to learn back flips and front flips! I look forward to learning and soon teaching this trick as well! With Peace, Casey Men's Club Gymnastics
a kick the moon is when you turn over and hook kick above you, not flash kick, regardless of the setup. Cheat gainer is called SLANT gainer, which kicks towards your opposite shoulder, gainer flash kicks towards the same shoulder.
These are alot easier than they look, thanks for the tip with the work up, that helped. and did you just scoot off your right hand?? never seen a reverse scoot before..
@DjSimchuk haha wind resistance isnt really a problem, you just have to learn to control your momentum and all that. You dont have to watch tutorial videos necessarily, just watch a sampler or something and pay attention to every movement, body position, where the head is looking, where the arms are. Just watch the trick over and over until you know where every part of you needs to be and when.
Hey Epic ,I been following you with all the tuts you have posted ...Thanks a lot man and keep up the good work. And also if you can give few practice exercises for the moves that you did in this vid,it would be much helpful...TY
Just try to get the idea of tucking and arm movements first to gain momentum. And then apply that on your take off. I really don't know how else to word it lol...
@bboybacnis hmm difficult question... i started learning them both at the same time. my gainer flash needed a long time til it was good, but i did it right the first time i tried it. my cheat gainer was good the first time i landed it, but i needed a long time to understand it. i would say you should start with a backflip and then try both.
hey whats up man ive been a tracuer for a while but never got into tricks or flips-how would i go about attempting this without like snapping my neck lol do you guise just go out in the grass at a park or put mats down? (i no this is where you need a gym but i cant find any lawlz)
Would there be any warm ups or anything that you'd recommend to a first time attempter? ......lol because this is so cool and i must learn it without dying or breaking something :D
i wish i could do this stuff. im starting at base line though haha. i think im trying to get ahead of myself. i can do the scoop usually pretty well but im wondering if i should perfect an aerial before even going from the scoop to the cheat gainer?
@leighia1 Actually technically it is a cork WITHOUT the 360 haha Many consider the cheat gainer a prerequiset to the cork. Its supposed to be a stepping stone.
@DjSimchuk you're not too tall, anyone can learn. i train with people who are 5ft tall and built like a tank and a guy who's 6ft4in and skinny. I'd recommend trying to find a clip or tutorial of someone with a similar body type to your own though and study that.
Btw since I'm a right hander, do I use my left or right leg to kick? FYI I use my right leg to kick for my Webster flips. Sorry for the stupid question but plz reply. :)
@19stealth84 As a die hard tricker who is very involved in the Tricking community, one learns to eliminate the extra fluff surrounding names. I'm very aware of what he's doing. The "cheat" is just added weight. Drop it and just call it a gainer.
How is the startup called exactly (didn't understand it...) you use at 4:00? I've seen this a lot of times, also used it myself, but never knew the name ^^° thx and greetz from germany
Epic man, i love your videos! i wanna train in your gym someday (no joke). I got the butterfly kick down and now im working on the wall spin. After the wall spin im gonna start this.
I like this stuff, much better than all other tuts. though you might want to speak a lil' bit slower ;P gonna go out and train this right now. cuz earlier when i tried cheat gainers they get to straight, almost like some kind of mixture of kick the moon and normal gainer. I really like the looks of cheat gainer though, the motion is so smooth and inverted :P Keep it up, peace /Spliffy
I am doing them well now but I can't land them at all. I am spotting the ground and getting my first leg down properly but instead of swinging around to the other leg like you I fall backward... any help?
when i try this i can never get the 'off axis' spin... i end up just doing a gainer and when i go off axis i end up doing a cork! is there way i can think of it to stop myself from spinning??
cani ask about which leg to swing, because i have always practised with my right leg swinging - i am a right-handed person. does this factor really matter ?
@TOADinvader Alright, so you're not only right handed - you're right footed. Most righties are - some are left footed though, and vice versa. So yeah, use your right leg to kick.
@limmmful well I'm no epic but it sounds like you don't really know how your own gainer looks so I would suggest you record yourself or someone does it for you so that you may notice what you want to change in your style and just make it your own :)
I've been trying to get this movement for months now, and what I always seem to have trouble with is twisting. I was just outside trying them again and I pretty much under-twisted a cork, thus resulting on me landing right on my behind. The other problem I have is when I try not to twist, I end up doing an under rotated kick the moon only landing on my knee off to the side a bit... I'll keep working on them in the gym, but any tips (from anybody) would be awesome! Thanks.
I can do a gainer and I'm practising on a cheat one. I tried a few out of some steps, but I'm always to low to land it clean. Is it easier to do it out of the scoot`?
The first I learned was the frontflip, took me along time but I got it, I recommend you that, but backflips are way easier than fronts, but harder in a mental way (fear) If you don't have fear then go with the backflip. Good Luck on your training, man. Stay Safe!
i think you got them backwards a cheat gainger is over your head like above cus ita a back flip and a a slant gainer / kick the moon is over your shoulder
No, but you DO need to be physically fit. A good backflip, to the point where you can do standing X outs would be highly recommended. As for the legs, a guy I train with can do these MUCH better than me, yet his only advantage is how strong his upper body is (shoulders and arms, specifically). I recommend TricksTutorials for learning this and other related moves. Observe his slides, they help. Watch the arms+chest throughout the ENTIRE move.
no, you just need to commit 100% to the flip... kick right over your shoulder, your arms and the take off leg is your height and your swinging leg is your rotation.. its all mental fear really man, once you get over that fear and throw yourself too it, you will find it to be really really easy... if you got a back flip down then this-one should be a peace of cake
@TerenceChay I'm 15 yrs old to, and I say just try it on the gras, I learned it on grass to, this is one of the moves where barely anything can happen to you if you fall
@blackhawkfire Cheat gainers are called that because theyre not proper gainers theyre to the side. So no, you dont need normal gainers. They're probably harder.
erm , just a question i have try it many times but my head hardly looks to ground(as suggest by the others), and then one told me that my gainer looks like swallow flip and i just wondering how do i made a obvious move that may differ both this flips?
this is my favorite move except idk how to do it.. how long does it usually take to do this move? and whats the differnece between corkscrew and all these tricks they all look like the gainer =/
@NateHitpas But this is not a gainer. Hes not flipping straight back if u notice its like a flat spin. Its called a cheat gainer because you are cheating the gainer by going to the side and it just evolved to being an actual trick.
i want to learn all ur moves but why im scared? but i do the back flip when im not scared,,, but in the other day im scared and try it and my head just hit the ground but not too hard,, how can i remove my fear?
um maybe if you have a 540 kick it may help because a 540 goes over your thigh. or hip. (sideknife) and a "slant gainer" goes over your shoulder... look at tricks that remind u of the one you want (prerequisites) and MASTER THEM
yea im trying to land a barani(on flat) and i keep on landing and sliping could u make a tutorial on how to do a barani 4 me please that would be awsome.
Hey epic , can you plz help me. I've been trying to do this move for a long time but i keep failing it. I started with the basic steps you explained in this vid , and i reached a point where i switch into a b-kick from the j-step. Can you plz tell me how to get it more flippy cuz i am too afraid to try it right off.
Hey Epic, can you tell me what is wrong with my cheat gainer? There's a vid on my channel , it's called '' improved slant gainer '' . Thanks in advance.
Yes. im a intermediate flipper . and yes you can.. i got injured in a dance performance once and could not do back tucks or any flips for 3 months but when i came off injury and started back training. i got my GAINERS (ALL) back like 3 weeks bfor i got back my back tuck. proving that is is easier to do a Gainer. due to it being a momentum flip (^_^) mssg me for anything if i can help
maybe use your hands a bit more, that's pretty much whats giving you most of your height, the takeoff leg assist a little, your swinging leg is your rotation, just throw your hands up and kick over your shoulder
hey brothers. looks like we have something in common. we're 2 boys who tries to do the cheat gainer. we have accomplished the regular gainer easily, BUT the cheat gainer is really killing us. any tips. and for how long did you practice before you learned it anyone? good luck have fun :p
id say this is pretty low on the scale, you can really just go for it and land it without much practice, and its pretty hard to get hurt doin it especially since you can put you hand down when your gunna hit the ground
I love how down to earth you explained this like you were learning as you were going.
Nice vid Dude!
@chokman1 practicing on something soft will definitely lower the fear level, but mainly what causes fear is anticipation. you think ahead and ask yourself "what if I mess up and fall?" you're anticipating a possible negative outcome. don't do that. be confident. visualize your move and sticking it, then do it just like you visualized it. confidence and not thinking about unnecessary stuff is key.

thanks for clarifying the difference between the kick the moon and cheat gainer... i was a bit confused before i watched this video... good tutorial!

Switch hook kick, Backflip, or even a kick the moon. A backflip is more essential for these kind of flips including Kick the Moon.
Awesome Tutorial :) very detailed in explanation.
One question, are you left footed? / left handed?
Just try to get the idea of tucking and arm movements first to gain momentum. And then apply that on your take off. I really don't know how else to word it lol...
@bboybacnis hmm difficult question...
i started learning them both at the same time.
my gainer flash needed a long time til it was good, but i did it right the first time i tried it.
my cheat gainer was good the first time i landed it, but i needed a long time to understand it.
i would say you should start with a backflip and then try both.
@Topera151 Can you do each of these tricks, or direct me to video's that demonstrate the difference?
I'm curious. Thank You.
Okay, so, what are the pre-requisites to do a cheat gainer? I only know how to do a handstand and a handspring!
hey whats up man
ive been a tracuer for a while but never got into tricks or flips-how would i go about attempting this without like snapping my neck lol
do you guise just go out in the grass at a park or put mats down?

Many consider the cheat gainer a prerequiset to the cork. Its supposed to be a stepping stone.
Dude i love your videos, its so easy to learn stuff. You know how to break it down step by step, thanks. :D
@DjSimchuk you're not too tall, anyone can learn. i train with people who are 5ft tall and built like a tank and a guy who's 6ft4in and skinny. I'd recommend trying to find a clip or tutorial of someone with a similar body type to your own though and study that.
@pwnfire4
You should always practice both sides eventually!
First just try out which is more comfortable for you.
dude I rly need a wallfpil and a double leg tutorial when u have time thx xD
Btw since I'm a right hander, do I use my left or right leg to kick? FYI I use my right leg to kick for my Webster flips. Sorry for the stupid question but plz reply. :)
@19stealth84 As a die hard tricker who is very involved in the Tricking community, one learns to eliminate the extra fluff surrounding names. I'm very aware of what he's doing. The "cheat" is just added weight. Drop it and just call it a gainer.
so why we should learn it on the gras and not on a mattress which is softer than grass?
How is the startup called exactly (didn't understand it...) you use at 4:00?
I've seen this a lot of times, also used it myself, but never knew the name ^^°
thx and greetz from germany
4:02 what is that before trick ?;] its awesome !!!

@narutodamp U can use those sleeping matress or those high jump matress
Please can you tell me if the weight matters?
I am 190 cm, 115 kilos, but I am doing sport (Handball) and I am pretty springy. ANSWER SOON, THANKS!
I'm having problems flipping to the side. When i do mine it's more like a side kick...will it be easier if u learn back hand spring first?
I am doing them well now but I can't land them at all. I am spotting the ground and getting my first leg down properly but instead of swinging around to the other leg like you I fall backward... any help?
i think id try it starting from the "sweep scoop" because of the momentum
hey epic...im tryin to get a double leg do you have tourtoial for that....i can do it over friends just not by myself
@bboybacnis its harder to learn because of that weird twisting thing, but its easier to do
@chokman1 practice on something that wont hurt you if you fall. like mats, mattress, or go to an open gymnastics gym
when i try this i can never get the 'off axis' spin... i end up just doing a gainer and when i go off axis i end up doing a cork! is there way i can think of it to stop myself from spinning??
cani ask about which leg to swing, because i have always practised with my right leg swinging - i am a right-handed person. does this factor really matter ?

Damn, I never realised that swingthru b-kick thing, but your are absolutely right!
I've been trying to get this movement for months now, and what I always seem to have trouble with is twisting. @blazeangel94 erm what about main leg ? do you use your main leg to plant or drive ?
The first I learned was the frontflip, took me along time but I got it, I recommend you that, but backflips are way easier than fronts, but harder in a mental way (fear) If you don't have fear then go with the backflip. Good Luck on your training, man. Stay Safe!
PLEASE HELP ME! Do I need to be able to do any flips to do this? I only have a mattress and a hard basement floor, do you think I can learn this?
Actually once I started going a lot more backwards it was safer for some reason and it looks better. Well in my experience anyway.
the only thing stopping oneself from tricking is just fear...tricking has nothing to do with age, height, weight, speed, it is for almost everyone
on a scale of 1 - 10, where 1 = normal front flip & 10 = cork how hard is this move to learn/land/not DIE doing
i think you got them backwards a cheat gainger is over your head like above cus ita a back flip and a a slant gainer / kick the moon is over your shoulder

I recommend TricksTutorials for learning this and other related moves. Observe his slides, they help. Watch the arms+chest throughout the ENTIRE move.
where do you train at
@bboybacnis thats what you need spotters for! 2 of em, fully supporting tour weight as you jump and tuck, and they'll flip you over
no, you just need to commit 100% to the flip... kick right over your shoulder, your arms and the take off leg is your height and your swinging leg is your rotation.. its all mental fear really man, once you get over that fear and throw yourself too it, you will find it to be really really easy... if you got a back flip down then this-one should be a peace of cake

@TerenceChay how do you get a matress? i cant find any place to train
how much different is the fear in this then the fear of a backflip because ur not going really anywhere near over ur head its more ur ear
erm , just a question i have try it many times but my head hardly looks to ground(as suggest by the others), and then one told me that my gainer looks like swallow flip and i just wondering how do i made a obvious move that may differ both this flips?
this is my favorite move except idk how to do it..
how long does it usually take to do this move?
and whats the differnece between corkscrew and all these tricks
they all look like the gainer =/
Okay. I'll film it on friday - My shoulder dislocated last week, but I shoulde be able to get some good examples on friday.
@NateHitpas But this is not a gainer. Hes not flipping straight back if u notice its like a flat spin. Its called a cheat gainer because you are cheating the gainer by going to the side and it just evolved to being an actual trick.
thanks a lot man! this is a group channel so i'm sure this will help out all of us!
@omegaterror its the same as when u do a back flip, u just do it, if u hesitate ur bound to get hurt, try it into a pool
a ktm has 2 distinct kicks, gotta make sure a hook is thrown out after landing
i want to learn all ur moves but why im scared? but i do the back flip when im not scared,,, but in the other day im scared and try it and my head just hit the ground but not too hard,, how can i remove my fear?
Do I jump, even a little, off my planted foot or is it all in the kick?
Any tips on keeping my legs bent? I actually like them better that way =)
are you doing a backflip or like a spinning kick.
@12parkourdude12 get more momentum and maybe your not swinging arms out and in fast in enough. Go for it on mats without fear. You can do it!
so are you ever upside down? like is there a high risk of hurting your head for beginners?
do u run when u do a corkscrew
um maybe if you have a 540 kick it may help because a 540 goes over your thigh. or hip. (sideknife) and a "slant gainer" goes over your shoulder... look at tricks that remind u of the one you want (prerequisites) and MASTER THEM
@bboybacnis i know you got an answer , however, imo gainer is easier than this wierd slant thing, backflips are fairly easy too
im right footed but i feel like i should plant my left foot. im goofy footed on a skateboard though
@TerenceChay how do you find places to train? im 15 too but cant find any place to train :(
yea im trying to land a barani(on flat) and i keep on landing and sliping could u make a tutorial on how to do a barani 4 me please that would be awsome.
How the hell do you land so quietly? all the tricks i do i always land hard and it hurts my feet. what can I do to practice landing softly like you?
I can easily do a kick the moon but i can't quite slant my self to do a cheat gainer, any tips?
thank you so much! all of your tutorials are really helping me!
Hey epic , can you plz help me. I've been trying to do this move for a long time but i keep failing it. I started with the basic steps you explained in this vid , and i reached a point where i switch into a b-kick from the j-step. Hey Epic, can you tell me what is wrong with my cheat gainer?
There's a vid on my channel , it's called '' improved slant gainer '' . Thanks in advance.
hi,you think it's dangerous to do at first time?? u know same drop tests??
Yes. im a intermediate flipper . and yes you can.. i got injured in a dance performance once and could not do back tucks or any flips for 3 months but when i came off injury and started back training. i got my GAINERS (ALL) back like 3 weeks bfor i got back my back tuck. proving that is is easier to do a Gainer. due to it being a momentum flip (^_^) mssg me for anything if i can help
is it easier to think it as a gainer to the side or as a gainer with a hook
maybe use your hands a bit more, that's pretty much whats giving you most of your height, the takeoff leg assist a little, your swinging leg is your rotation, just throw your hands up and kick over your shoulder
Thanks 4 that! :)
BTW, you got almost the same hairstyle like Jackie Chan! :) That's cool! :D
love the little dance after everything.
if u can train ur legs to increase ur vertical jump
that can help too.
hey brothers. looks like we have something in common. we're 2 boys who tries to do the cheat gainer. we have accomplished the regular gainer easily, BUT the cheat gainer is really killing us. any tips. and for how long did you practice before you learned it anyone? good luck have fun :p
@GarrettGoodwin1 try doing a cartwheel out of the same setup first, then progress into the cheat gainer
Hey..i have a problem...every time i try to do a cheat gainer i do a inward sideflip...any advices?what should i do?what i'm doing wrong?
for some reason i can only do a kick the moon, i have trouble tilting on my axis a bit. i just cant go diagonally, can you help me fix this please
Where is the difference between: cheat gainer and moonkick and flash gainer?
grasias aprendi mucho con tigo y ago el back hand spring y el cheat gainer thank you
what type of martial arts would help me do this
Sweet
is there any age limit to be in the group?
id say this is pretty low on the scale, you can really just go for it and land it without much practice, and its pretty hard to get hurt doin it especially since you can put you hand down when your gunna hit the ground
