Hey!! WE DIDN'T SEE THE "YOLK",either!!😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅. BTW, I actually was raised on a farm, producing what is now considered "free range". 350 @ one count, of laying hens/pullets/chicks/5 roosters. 3 10'x14' henhouses. We sold eggs/laying hens/ traded pullets@ grocery store/feed store/colored chicks for Easter/AND grandpa's hobby of Rooster trading. Simultaneously, we milked 4 cows/ raised/butchered 14 hogs per year, and gratefully fell asleep @9p.m. every night!!

I bet you have stories to tell... lol. You sounded like you were busy busy... I often wondered what it would be like to live on a farm and work as a farmer for a living! I'd love to do more, but currently, my full-time 'day job' is telling myself to not do any more than what I'm doing, which everyone around me tells me, it's too much lol. I'm usually in bed by 8:30p now and wake up to my husband's 4:45 am alarm every day. So quick question... I've 'heard' what free range is, in terms of eggs that are sold at the grocery stores... but can you share what it actually is? just curious if it's the same as what I've heard.

@@ourlifesimplified Sure! According to "official"(times vary somewhat) definition, ( it IS NOT OFFICIALLY a rule/more like a guide-line) chickens that are allowed to wander aimlessly OUTSIDE their cage/hen-,house/ pen/coop for a period of 5/5.5/6+ hours per day, foraging for natural food. ( BTW; I hope you learned to provide fine gravel/CRUSHED shells( both egg-shells/certain types of oyster(see I-Net) or certain calcium supplements). Tip: also for free-range; provide emergency shelter of chicken-wire/tarp to protect from hawks( federally protected, so ya can't legally blast'em,) and open access to roost to escape weasels/cats/etc. Hawks circle HIGH, they look small, and hit suddenly. So some sort of tent/umbrella type cover over corner of pen is helpful!! Hawks usually try only once, mebbee twice, and if unsuccessfull move on, for THAT DAY!! But once they got your chickens mapped out, they WILL RETURN!! Weasel-proof your hen house w/aluminum, or sturdy plastic siding, type used for under-pinning on mobile homes, vertically 5 ft high(+8" into ground) Keep door clearances TIGHT. Keep ventilation above 5ft. Chicks need less O2, more heat. Hens need more O2/ less heat. Cool air dropping will warm for chicks/hot air rising will ventilate out. Other than that, ENJOY BREAKFAST!!
