- In this video I'll be explaining furries to my entire school! Quick disclaimer: Not all furries do all these things. It's an example of multiple things that community as a whole has a focus on.

I’m a Film student at Danvik School of Media and Communication/Danvik Folkehøgskole, and at our school we have 15 minutes long morning meetings before we go to class. In these meetings whoever can talk about whatever topic they want and the talks are usually inspirational or motivational topics, things that are close to you as a person or really whatever, it’s up to you. So of corse I had to take the chance to go full out furry trash and talk about furries :)
So hey, to all Norwegians; Danvik School of Media and Communication lies in Drammen, Norway and it’s a «folk high». We live at the school, eat at the school, and there are no grades. It’s sort of a break year in between high school and college, where you can spend some time figuring out what you want to do in life. I personally had no clue about where to go after I was out of High School, so this year was pretty essential for me. I’ve improved my social skills, learnt a lot about self improvement and getting in propper routines, and I’ve also figured out where I want to go in life.
The school is whatever you make of it. I’ve learnt a lot through the time I’ve spent here, because I’ve tried spending as much time as I can learning things. Others may choose to spend the time on improving social bonds and similar things. Whatever you wanna get out of the year, it’s up to you. I personally recommend a school like this a lot.

The entire "stereotype" with how furries look like is COMPLETELY thrown out the window with this guy. This guy looks GOOD! =D

The stereo type is a little ridiculous though. I think it's pretty much the opposite. Very many furries look similar to this guy. I'm probably a little taller then him and have brown hair and have a broader build but definitely not anywhere close to any stereo types of furries.
We are not a bunch of fat dudes living in basements or super shy very thin and pale guys either. They exist and that is fine, live you live. But they are not at all the majority.
I do think there is probably some common things among us though. I think anxiety is pretty common. Which isnt strange if you think about it. One thing I love about this is that people Express themselves without showing themselves. I dont own a fursuit but I have at one point tested a mascot suit for a company. I wasnt a furry yet at the time but I loved it. Even though you are right there, in front of people. Noone actually sees you. It is a massive confidence boost. Being someone without much confidence all my life it almost feels like all that stuff goes away. I can see why people have no problems spending money on that. As he mentioned in his presentation there is also a lot of acceptance towards different sexualities. So that's another area where you'll find a lot of similarities.

Nah, I was honestly pretty excited to do it, really enjoy doing shit like this. When I practiced it turned out really good. The anxiety showed up in the end when I was actually presenting tho, but at least my entire body didn't shake af as it has done when I've had presentations earlier x')

Holy crap, I finished watching it. I dunno why, but I could *feel* the anxiety. I had to pause a bunch just to kind of calm down, hoping nothing bad would happen. That applause at the end, though! It's awesome to see your school so accepting of furries.

I think furries are a bit cringy and I do laugh at the things they do, however I don't mind them, live and let live. It's okay to do things that others think is strange as long as it's not hurting anyone, so don't be afraid of being yourself.

Me too. I also think furries are a bit weird and even though I do make artwork of anthropomorphic animals, I'm not a Furry myself, but I don't have any problems with their existence. If they wanna dress up like animals because they find it fun and as a way of self expression, then I say good on them! It's nice to see that they're brave enough to express themselves without fear of being judged.
(The only Furries I have issues with are the very small minority of them who do very... inappropriate things, thankfully there aren't that many of them and they are outnumbered by all the decent Furries who just wanna express themselves and have fun)
And we would have a much better world if more would think like thos as well.... (That would be a nice world)

Nice! I would have melted on that stage. xD Really cool presentation, I think you "painted a nice picture" of the fandom. People tend to mention negative things and say "were not like that" which always creates a negative point of focus. You did a great job and showed why people would be interested in such a community :)
This x 1000. The positive side of the story is so rarely mentioned; it's nice to see an exception to that rule. One detail I'd have like to see mentioned along those lines was donations to charity (via conventions). FWA raised $50,000 for the Conservators Center in North Carolina this year alone.

Haven't found much "slice of life" comics like that one sadly. However Poppy Oppossum, Housepetscomic, Digger comic, Zoophobia and Endtown are pretty dang great ones too

I adore Housepets, though the heavier surrealism in the later years kinda throws me off at times.
I also love Bittersweet Candy Bowl (in spite of confirmation from the author that it isn't "furry"), though it can be a bit *too* defined by angst and drama. >w<
... And then there's the one-shot comic "Drop-Out" which is one of the most raw, real, emotional comics I have ever read. It was so damn good and I really wasn't able to fight tears at times.

I cant believe you did this, much respect. I was cringed a bit in the beginning, but then I realized how awesome it is that someone is openly speaking about furries in front of such a large crowd. Talking about furries is something I wouldn't want to do much, especially in front of that many people. Also good presentation
...and here I sit in germany, remembering being bullied because I drew an anthromorphic fox, denying it was a furry for years. You, my friend, got my respects for standing up for the furry community. If I did it here, I'd be socially isolated forever...or worse

Ah we dont really need to. America is an economic powerhouse, so people learn english. It would still be nice if they taught us other languages and cultures at a young age.
Kids are knowledge sponges when they are extremely young because their brains are empty. Schools need to teach kids a second language of their choice at a young age this way they don't have to be bothered learning a second language in highschool where your brain is already overloaded and you'll forget.

I would be afraid that people will make fun of this and won't consider this presentation as smth cool, did they act normal to you after this? I mean, I wouldn't mind, I don't give a shit what people think about me, but I'm just curious.
People are usually quite fascinated by the community if they've never seen it before. Many people thought it was really cool, and many peeps gave me a lot of creds and compliments, have so far not gotten any negative feedback IRL. that's about to change with the internet though :^)
In general in life I end up having to explain it to a descent ammount of people as well. Most peeps think it's a cool thing.
If you wonder about other people who "know" about furries, you can watch the "furry friends" video, that's usually how interactions with them ends up going. (obviously not to that extreme, it's exaggerated af but you get the point) However I obviously don't know if someone are dissing me without me knowing about it, but I don't really care if there were peeps doing that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It’s pretty amazing to see just how accepting your audience were. This stuff I usually find cringy (usually because of the audience screwing it up) but you presented the fandom in a great light and highlighted the most important things in an informative way. Bravo!

i probably would have had an anxiety attack or stuttered more than my laptop if i had to do this, but this is amazing and i wish everyone could be like the person you are.
The closest I got was giving a speech about myself to he class and mentioning I’m a furry. People just wanted to see my art and then they wer like ok cool
