I've been dippin and dabbin in car audio since 1989 and bro u continuously shed new light on a whole bunch of stuff that I knew about but didnt know totally about. I appreciate the knowledge. Thanks👍👍👊✌
What youre saying is 100% true and i hope everybody learns from you dude! Very knowledgeable stuff here. However the key thing to also remember is in a perfect world this would all be to the T. But everybody owns different vehicles some hatch, some tiny coupes and sedans or huge suv’s. Trying to cram larger subs and larger boxes in a tiny trunk will sound terrible. There would be no room for the woofers to breathe. Some setups in trunks can actually benefit from smaller woofers. That being said you can just do a behind the seat build and forget about the trunk but for those looking for a daily build. Larger subs arent always the better option. Id say for small trunk builds. Go with a high power handling high excursion woofer in a very well built box. But if you HAVE the room to properly fit bigger, i definitely would go with that!
Thank you for the information, kicker definitely know's their subwoofer.. they know 500 watts is perfect for the 8" subwoofer.. I've always been a kicker fan.. this is good knowledge ty once again..
Watching your videos convinced me to switch to 8s. I have 2 12 p3s on 1200 watts rms. I love them, but they are being choked out down firing in a sealed box under a rear seat in my Sierra Denali. Im switching to 4 8s front firing on a 1500-watt rms amp.
The other bit of info you left out is the excursion potential of the driver. You're pretty close with the surface area surmise, but the truth is the displacement capability of a driver, which is surface area x excursion. That's the real performance metric there. That is also the reason higher performing drivers need more amp power, to drive the woofer in further excursion. All things being equal, you are correct if a pair of drivers have the same excursion capability, then yes, the one with more surface area (cone area) will in fact play louder. Great video btw! 2 thumbs up!
Yo! I’ve played with ALOT of subs in truck applications, I’m convinced 8’s work best! I’ve settled with DD 608’s, great electrical running 2500rms solid. Now You got me thinking about going to high school days and running Kicker!
Aw man you ready, can't wait to hear them sir. I have a sundown x12 about to put that in the midgate of my 2008 avalanche z71, but I can't wait, and im running a rockford fosgate t1500-1bdcp on it keep the great content coming. ✌🏿
My guy!! Coming through with this video. I had 2 Kicker 12 inch CVX, wired down to 1 ohm, and had a Rockford Fosgate T1000 push those bad boys. And that amp and subs worked hella well together. Best freaking setup I've ever had!!!!!! I had the subs in a ported box, with the port in between each sub. My lips felt like they were going to fly off when bumping some DJ Laz.
You gained a subscriber. The only thing I could add is efficiency.. IF your amplifier/power source can support a lower impedance you can in theory gain more output. Thank you for the content!

I have a pair of kicker cvx d4 and a pair of skar evl d4 12s. Playing them in my bed room I notice on the same low power at 250 watts each at half volume. The kicker Xmas way less than the skar but had more output. Think about this look at the bottom and top of most kicker's cones. It has both dips and Peaks which equals up to extra area. Them 3D ridges and shape are actually adding more area cone Space. And at the same time making the world's strongest plastic cone woofer ever.

I've had my kicker solobaric l7 15s since 2007. Just bought a new amp a few months back because the subs out lasted the amps. Now I traded in my Yukon and got a 2021 trailboss, been trying to figure out what I wanted to go with that would work with my 2500.1 amp. Had been thinking about 4 8s. Think I'm going with the l7 8s. Wish I could hold out until the solo x comes out, but I honestly am not that patient. Now to see if I can get a box made that will fit under the seat and still allow these bad boys to breath.
Just found your channel and I’m enjoying your perspective. How would 2 of these compare to a single 12 for output and low end? I have a ssa demon and like it but want to try something different
Is it the same case with midrange speakers? More cone area = more output or is it, more wattage rms = more output? Or is it a mix of both, any help would be great, cheers!!
Which would hit harder those kickers in a ported box or a 4th order box? I want something that will not take up a lot of space in the rear of a 2006 Honda Odyssey.
I just upgraded my 13 oddy with 2 ct sound tropos on a at500.1 ct amp with a big ported box and it slams for what they are! I did have to cut a wire to both microphones in the car to shut off the noise canceling system because it would hum super loud with the doors shut lol
