Here is my high wind one. While flying a Lichi mission for the second time two hours after the first. My mini 2 on the down wind leg did not seem to make any progress, but it completed the mission. The time difference, one minite and 15 seconds longer. So both Lichi and the Mini 2 gave me lots of confidence, and it still stands from all most four years ago.
I almost crashed my mini 2 drone recently,not sure what went wrong. But thank God I regained control just in time.
And once during high winds my drone was all the place lol.

Pull the SD card and don’t write any more to it. Inexpensive recovery tools can get your existing footage even after a format.
It was just full, nothing wrong with the card
He should know that !!
I understand there was nothing wrong with the card. You formatted it. But a format does not erase the contents, just the directory that tells your drive where to find the information and allows it to be overwritten. A recovery tool can retrieve your videos as long as you don’t continue to use the card prior to recovery.

Thanks Henrik. This was a very good example of real-world challenges we face while flying. I appreciate your willingness to disclose your own mistakes. As you said, we all make them. Hopefully yours will help others avoid their own in some measure.
I would also comment that I find myself flying the Air3 more than any other drone these days. It has such long flight time, is really fast at ascending/descending, the 3x tele is very useful, and it's a lot less money at risk than the big boys. My most desired feature that is missing: true vertical shooting. Since the Mavic Pro, it's been unavailable on the larger aircraft. I realize it would present challenges to implement, but it's so useful. The 2.7k fake vertical is no substitute.

Awesome story! And I saw parts of Gilleleje again. I have been on that bridge about 4 weeks before, in July with less windy conditions. Now, that I have the mini 4 pro I would love to come back.

Hey Henrik, thanks for sharing the video. I had a wind experience with the Mavic 3 Pro during the summer. I was trying to get some video and photos of an approaching storm. I unintentionally got hit with 70mph straight line wind gust the bow echo. I got very lucky. The Mavic was totally fine and handled like a beast. I wouldn't do it again obviously. Like I said it was very unintentional. Thank you for the video again Henrik.

Wow! An In-Flight SD Card format…NASA or the ESA would do this to a device out in space, so you are in a rare group my friend! I have a Mini (1) in which, upon unfolding it, the wind started spinning the props quite fast, made me think maybe this wasn’t a good idea. But, the flight was awesome, AirData analysis showed 27 kts gusts for the drone. So now I’m at risk for wind complacency…just like the rest of us.
Not really but I don’t mind disclosing some of things happing while flying, if it can help others to avoid - Mini 1 is prone to wind for sure, so good it hold up
I almost lost my Dji mini2 at a ski resort. It was trying to force land at 200 ft high when i was trying to fly it back to my home point.
The day was a foggy day @ the ski resort and I think they had the snow machine on. The condensation from flying so high along with the snow machine made the bottom sensors go wacky. I could not fly it back properly to my home point. After struggling with it for 5 minutes trying to get it back along with the force landing I decided to hit the RTH button. It did come back and from 20 meters up, I was able to steer it to land.
Moral of the story is never fly in fog. I just purchased the mini 4 in which I havent flown it yet but i heard there is a way to disable the bottom sensors in which is not avaliable in the mini 2.
I learned that too. When the tilt-angle is too high they'll shut-down so knowing the wind conditions isn't actually wasted-time.

High Wind and Water are never good situations for mistakes. Just like manned aircraft pilots unmanned aircraft pilots should be aware of weather conditions. Fill into the win outbound over water so that you can fly with the wind in home return.

Hi Henrik, I’ve experienced the same problem with my mini 2, I was filming next to a cliff (big mountain) and there was a lot of wind that I took in account, but doing my filming I got deoriented and found my mini 2 in back of instead of in front of me (facing the wind) and my battery was getting very low fighting the wind speed and warning was screaming … I had to lower and find a place in the crowded neighborhood to land it safely. At the last minute or second I lost video and contact with the drone. So I used the locate my drone feature. I drove quickly to the area, I couldn’t find the drone but my position was close but I had to see on the grounds. I had only a picture of the street in my last shot recorded. After passing by many time without seeing it, I stopped the car and when out and gave a look around and I heard the sound beeping and to my astonishing surprise it was on the high grass lawn 1 meter from the asphalt in front of a house that I stop in front, which the owner who never saw the drone land neither the whole street!! That was I hell of an experience. I taught it was lost somewhere like a roof a tree??? But my luck find it with some perseverance. Moral: never give up!

Pretty funny but intense! So glad you got your drone back. We are all guilty of testing the limits every now and then and surely that is when bad things start to pile up. +56 mph is a lot of wind for any consumer drone!

Thanks a lot for this video. This Summer I almost lost my Mini 1. Not because of strong wind but due to a stupid pilot ;-) I flew in parallel to a small river, facing to the riverbank, so finally flying sidewards. It was at about 15m height. My daughter just sayd I should care for the drone. All of a sudden I saw some leaves from a tree on the videostream, just a few inches in front of the drone. In panic-mode I pushed the drone up, to gain altitude, which was finally the right decision... I did not realize the bird was not flying over water an more...
So, lesson learned... ;-)
Hello Henrik. Thanks for risking your Air 3 just to perfrom real-world tests on it and sharing how should we respond if we face similar situations like this. I learned this the hard way since I just lost my trusty Mavic Mini in the mountains when the wind started to push away the drone and I never thought of lowering it down before trying to get it back. The location was around 215.2 meters (706.0 feet) above sea level. Unfortunately, after 3 days of trying tracking it, we never found it again. Now, I'm eyeing for the Air 3 which I believe that would be able to withstand such winds.
I make it a habit to format my Micro SD card right after uploading the content from each flight to my PC. Just a bit from 46 years of Professional Photography, That wind! Glad you got the Air 2\3 back safely. But I don't fault you: been there too many time because I wanted to fly! Thanks for sharing! I'm 👍#46
There were some hunting trails in the fields where I regularly fly that follow the edge of the forest. It was one of the first times I had the Mini 4 Pro up, so I thought I could use waypoints fly those trails. Nope. It flys a curved path between waypoints. If I had been smart, I would have tested the flight path above the tops of the trees, but I didn’t. I also thought I had the camera angles worked out to follow the trails. So, I am letting this thing fly waypoints, and it starts to fly sideways. Then, I see trees crowd into the display of the RC 2. Luckily, the obstacle avoidance stopped before it before it crashed, but I am stuck in the tree line. I didn’t see the way it went in, because the camera was pointing the wrong way. I also lost my line of sight. So, I have to pick my was out of the area by guessing which way the Mini 4 entered the tree line. Luckily, I was able to do that, but there were a few close calls.
Hello Henrik. Yup, we need fly in adverse conditions 🤣🤣🤣. Well, thank goodness it was just your SD card that got formatted and NOT your drone into the saltwater😱. Thank you for sharing your comments and excellent suggestions🙏.
Love the test and the classic Camaro! After a crash in a tree and testing the submarine capabilities of the Mini 3 Pro, I'm very hesitant in testing extreme conditions myself, so I am glad others will test the limits. :)

Ja, det var en bummert Henrik! :) - Jeg filmede med min Air 3 i vejret nede i Køge Bugt ved Greve da vi havde de forhøjede vandstande med storm. Fløj med 100km/t vinde uden problemer helt op til 120 meter over land. Min kammerat fløj med sin Mavic 3 Classic, den var ikke vild med vinden og måtte lande.
I had to use sport mode once to fight a sustained gust of wind. I could barely keep it in place. Definitely landed it afterwards. Sometimes the desire to fly outweighs logic. lol.

Do you have any experience with agresive birds? Or to be more clear, how to deal with the situation when birds begin attacking your drone.
I'm here in the Amazonas area of Brazil now on my 4th month. Almost every time I fly my drone I get some close encounter with birds. Fortunately not the big aras or eagles. Usually it's smaller birds. My tactic so far has been to go fast up. Something I read somewhere about birds never attack an enemy moving upwards.
Despite I love the wildlife here, it's really annoying. The thing is that I don't really know how big the risk is for a bird to take down my drone. And I definitely dont want to go through a jungle to find the drone.
Soon going back to Copenhagen for a month or two. Your video just reminded me about the weather there... Not looking forward

Fun video and I bet there are a lot of people that have been in similar situations! The amount of times I’ve forgotten to press record while flying - I almost wish DJI would put the same function that is on the Pocket 3 that starts recording immediately when you switch the unit on!.
Also - I had a rather hairy moment when I lost signal for the first time with my air 3. I wish you could have seen it! (You can - it’s on my channel 😊) BTW Your giggles always cheer me up, Henrik!

Strong winds always scare me regarding flying my Mini 2, i NEVER fly in strong winds over water! though i have flown in 30+mph winds with gusts upto 38mph, once i did a test to see how much my mini 2 can handle and flew it in a big open field with wind gusts upto 50mph! my poor little drone got blown away lol, i landed it about 100m away from take off point, luckily unharmed and i won't be doing that again lol.
I wonder how the drone would do with a waypoint missions under extreme winds? Both photo and video...

I lost control of my Air 2S and lost it in a forest. Don’t do what I did.
Mine dropped out of the sky into a man made pond in the park I jumped into get it the people thought I had lost the plot but I still have my drone.
@@chadgilmore5046 Unfortunately for me I was flying through a mountainous forest area and I misjudged the tallness of the trees. I had my return to home setting at a safe altitude for where I live and we were on vacation and I had never flown here. I’m not sure if my Air 2S ever landed or it got stuck up a tree. There was no way to get to the drone anyway. An expensive lesson I’ll never forget.
You can recover all the videos on that card. Just google for the software and normally it is a free program. Just stop over writing it.

Being hot on recording a special train the battery capacity was put to the test.... Waiting too long and "some wind" cost energy. The wanted train was likely halted to give way for the local train....
Headwind on the way home but descending and flying low over the lake saved the situation.
When landing there was some 5 minutes left until 0% battery...
