The more I see games of Paul Keres it becomes evident that he was one of the ALL TIME GREATS who deserved to be the world champion..The most precise & Clinical player along with Lasker & Fischer..He also was superb in Counter attacks ..He should be an ICON for all budding Chest masters & International masters to improve their game further..
Paul Keres, what a great player...The player who has defeated most world champions in history yet he never became one. When asked how come he wasn't world champion he would reply: I just had bad luck like my country.
Mato, When you're tired of Keres for a while, perhaps you could do a few Kotov games? I've been going over Bronstein's 1953 - Zurich book and have come to admire Kotov's style. I think his game with Szabo would make a good (if somewhat more complex than usual) video. (The last move is just too pretty!)
at 7:42 wouldn't a queen sacrifice do the trick just as well? White queen to f5, then black either captures with pawn, so white gets to do a family fork with the knight, since there's no longer a black knight protecting d6 sqare, and if black just continues with bishop to h1/h3 as intended, then again there's a family fork with white knight.
+Defalt47 What do you win by doing that? Nothing. If white queen takes knight on f5 then pawn takes, Knight to d6 forking, black king moves knight takes queen bishop takes knight, in the end you have traded 2 pieces for the same exact pieces, nothing beneficial.
Max Euwe's concentration was torn between wanting to attack and securing the king facing a player of the caliber of Paul Keres can not be the slightest break split in concentration is a fatal mistake
+jsj297 (I don't know if this list includes any recorded blitz games.) Paul Keres beat Jose Raul Capablanca 1 to 0, with 5 draws. Alexander Alekhine beat Paul Keres 5 to 1, with 8 draws. Paul Keres beat Max Euwe 11 to 7, with 9 draws. Mikhail Botvinnik beat Paul Keres 8 to 3, with 9 draws. Paul Keres tied Vasily Smyslov 9 to 9, with 22 draws. Paul Keres beat Mikhail Tal 8 to 4, with 18 draws. Tigran Vartanovich Petrosian tied Paul Keres 3 to 3, with 30 draws. Boris Spassky beat Paul Keres 5 to 3, with 19 draws. Robert James Fischer beat Paul Keres 4 to 3, with 3 draws. Paul Keres tied Anatoly Karpov 0 to 0, with 2 draws. More, including decisive games, at www.chessgames.com/perl/chesscollection?cid=1027184
+Pear Tree Education Inc. Since no one is actually going to be gracious enough to give a decent response... You cannot castle if your king passes through any squares which would put it in check. Castling here would cause the king to pass over f8, which the queen is attacking.
+Jean Carlos I thought the same thing but then black bishop can capture white knight after knight takes queen and black will have a better position than the one in the game. Just my opinion anyway
+Jere Leinonen Then after white knight gets black queen, black bishop gets white knight and black is a pawn up. Plus, Rook can't jump to c8, as bishop will be guarding the spot.
+Narrowc ross Yes, but Na4 was still going to make life miserable for Black. (Mato might have pointed out that Bxg2 was pointless anyway, because after Bh1 the mate threat on g2 is easily parried by f3.)
+Steven Yes,Alekhine beat Paul Keres with 5 to 1,with 8 draws. The one which Keres won is very interesting. But I think if the match took place in 1945 between the two, Keres should have equal chances beating Alekhine,he was still very young when he had to face Alekhine.Unfortunately, the match never took place.

Paul keres is certainly one of the greatest
I love this chanel. Thank you so much sir.
Thank you
At minute 8:00, ¿Why not Queen takes Knight?
Masterful play from Keres!
Paul Keres, what a great player...The player who has defeated most world champions in history yet he never became one. When asked how come he wasn't world champion he would reply: I just had bad luck like my country.
Euwe se čita Eve a ne Juv, moj Mato. Inače svaka čast za videe.
Brutal paliza del campeón sin corona.gracias y Saludos.
Keres is a genius!
Even Euwe can't stop Keres fires!
A wonderful game by Paul Keres.
Mato,

Another keres game thanks mato
love this channel.
Finally a deep analysis.
Paul Keres was one of the best players of his time!
Another good video Mato.

I see. My bad.
"but in chess, we take turns..." :)
Max Euwe's concentration was torn between wanting to attack and securing the king
facing a player of the caliber of Paul Keres can not be the slightest break
split in concentration is a fatal mistake
Keres was unstopable. What a great game.
This game like story from life
Eeuwe should have castled when he had the chance and take the pawn loss, as it is much less severe compared to what actually happened.
5:11 is there a reason Qb4 is better than Qd6 right away?
+BrettMKW with qb4 you are attacking the pawn 3 times
I think somebody is on a Paul Keres kick as of late..........did Keres ever play Tal?
+jsj297

+geonerd People say Keres was "warned" not to beat Botvinnik.
+GoldinDr KGB sometimes interfered. Players were not allowed to beat the top player.
MatoJelic Sadly, I have heard the same thing.
Thanks for your engrossing videos, Mato!
Nice one mato keep it up
How does Queen to B4 prevent castling? The Queen isn't likely to take the Rook on F8.

+Zoni Cad No, are you?
+stuwee3 ty
+MetallicaSlayer21 Thanks. I wasn't aware of this rule. I must be retarded according to Zoni :-p
in 8:04 queen could capture that knight removing the defender of the fork?
+Jean Carlos I thought the same thing but then black bishop can capture white knight after knight takes queen and black will have a better position than the one in the game. Just my opinion anyway
Got it u r reason wouldndt havê any advantage
Second step from Max Euwe was an original sin, incredible punishment by Paul Keres
Wasn't expecting A4 ~ would have replied with B4, cramping white's queenside ...
7:54 queen sacrifice for the knight and then king and queen fork
how about it?
+Jere Leinonen Then after white knight gets black queen, black bishop gets white knight and black is a pawn up. Plus, Rook can't jump to c8, as bishop will be guarding the spot.
Initial strong build up is the criteria in chess
"Bishop to e2, bishop to b7, bishop to b2" - Mato "Eminem" Jelic
Just kidding, yo!
Good game...
Thanks Mato....:)
#TrueFan
Maybe Euwe should have castled instead of taking the pawn on g2 with his Bishop, that seemed to be his only chance.
+Narrowc ross Yes, but Na4 was still going to make life miserable for Black. (Mato might have pointed out that Bxg2 was pointless anyway, because after Bh1 the mate threat on g2 is easily parried by f3.)
1940: The year the Nazis invaded the Netherlands.
Paul Keres...
Mato, do you live in Russia?
Australia
very nice game
it doesn't make sense that a chess player as great as Max Euwe can't castle
it's really a very difficult game for Euwe maybe once in his lifetime
A lot of end game lines
e5 for black prolongs the game 9.47 min in a lost position
I wanna see Keres take on Alekhine > -
+Steven didn't keres defeat alekhine at 1937 o-o
+Steven
Yes,Alekhine beat Paul Keres with 5 to 1,with 8 draws.

waw :o
11 wins 7 losses 9 draws
( keees vs Euwe )
I'm watching 'Euwe'...
Weh
Euwe seemed mediocre.
