the American celebrity Rosie O'Donnell watch the movie when it came out and she disliked it so much that she reviled the plot twist on her tv show ...that really killed the film
Things that don’t make sense… phone call to phone that says no incoming calls. Paper Street-literally only exists in planning offices. Norton gets out of the wrong side of the crash… those are some major ones. There’s tons more.
the narrator got out of the wrong side because he was actually driving. they did it on purpose. and the other things too, like little hints on that tyler and the narrator are the same person.
@@prosto-chay5809 yes, that’s what I was pointing out. Everything that scratches at your brain that doesn’t make sense is an intentional tell of reality. Showing you that it’s just him.
The phone can receive incoming calls, it’s just not supposed to because that lets people avoid paying. There are countermeasures in place to prevent incoming calls, but they can be circumvented. That’s just how payphones worked
Fun fact, Edward Norton really punched Brad Pitt in the ear, because David Fincher asked him to. Also there are a lot of hints on the plot twist throughout the movie. For example, marla, tyler and the narrator were never in the same room, the narrator got out of the driver's seat, members of project mayhem looked at the narrator even if he and tyler were standing together.
I actually don't think the twist at the end is why the movie is iconic. It definitely contributes - but I think it's more the fact that the movie captures something about men's psychology in the modern world. There's both an existential lack of purpose, and a disconnect between the primitive male brain to hunt and fight - and sitting in an office all day typing on computers. It's not something that can be precisely defined but the movie definitely captures the zeitgeist.
Hi again Purdy, that was too funny, you just answered the question you asked me, about how people talk about the film without giving it away, who wants spoilers? A couple of films you definitely avoid looking into before watching are Seven 1995 and The Sixth Sense 1999, if you haven't seen them already. I promise you'll have a better time with them not knowing. Another funny reaction, keep it up.

There is a very good video essay/analysis on the philosophy of this film. The video is titled "Fight Club and Nietzsche: Overcoming Emasculation", by a channel named 'Bob'.
Are you just gonna comment that then gate keep!?!?!? 😩😭😂 Isn’t it’s any age under 16?? I thought that’s why it was used in this film cause it was like a dark humour line

@@PurdyflexreactionsI believe it is the general consensus that the author literally meant to write it as a satire of toxic masculinity and not as a celebration of it.. There are a lot of themes here like capitalism and "letting go" ect but seemingly a lot of men took the satire of masculinity the wrong way. Funny how interpretations can contribute to the problem👍
@@mightygdog2225 it’s actually about a search for modern masculinity(author, not the feminist take. It does explore a toxic side to masculinity, but that is part of most masculine journeys, taming that violence.) he’s also known for just wanting to tell good stories and let readers decide. 1 inspiration was the camping trip the author went on and was beaten very badly, as he went back to society no one would look close or even acknowledge his bruises. Another was the “caucaphony society”.
Story about "when man is lost" and it's actually no ones care, among other things (satire about masculinity, consumerism, middle age crisis, old-boy raised by his mother, soft man cynicism and hypocrite, "just hug and cry" and no one near, ect). If man in this situation, and you fight (with your self, public ect) - you look like "toxic masculinity". So it not sad, it's fun)

As for the asshole tax. After 57 years of thinking the other person in the relationship was the problem it finally dawned on me why some women remain single and why some have habitually short term relationships over and over and constantly blame the guy
the grade school line was ad lib from Helena, not scripted...
