Benne Biscuit, Cocnut Biscuit and Rusk is one thing that my father used to get us from VB Bakery back in 80 and 90's. we used to wait for that every evening to savour the softness when dipped in milk, its use to melt and we use to race to keep it in our mouth. Wonderful memories.
I caught up with second generation owner, Vijaya Shankar and tasted over a dozen of OGV’s most popular baked treats. Hope you enjoy this episode; take care, stay safe and strong. Happy eating! I liked the way the interaction was. Especially Vijay Shankar sharing the response on his own brands baking: if it was baked or not upto the mark. And for the way Kripal tasting and making the"ummm" is just making my mouth watering..
Cant resist going to this place...even though its on the other side of Bengaluru.else will start dreaming of this cakes. Nostalgic, the darshini's and bakeries are the beautiful memories of any children growing up in this city ..... Soul food indeed...
Great treat to see the owner Mr. Vijay Shankar joining to give his comments amazing Happy Bakery Eating :-) Thank you for such a lovely presentation :-)
fun fact - Many think its Japanese cake ... but its actually japonaise cake... a very traditional French pastry which is basically flavoured buttercream sandwiched between almond merigue discs... absolutely loved the Nilgiris version of it as mentioned by the owner... thanks for the 2nd video sir... will definitely visit this place again... its been a while for us south bengalureans...
Sir Japanese cake is actually Japonaise cake which is an almond meringue torte through the years the name got corrupted in our country, it has nothing to do with Japan it does not originate from there at all
Ma'am, Japonaise in French means Japanese. So, it may not have it's origins in Japan but may have something to do with the style/method of preparation.
Regular visits to Varier Bakery is one of the things we sorely miss from our life at Bengaluru even after 15 years or so after having moved out from there. But the taste and experience of Varier still lingers fresh in the mind. One of the food businesses we had great respect for. So lovely and heartening to see that it still stays the same, or perhaps, is now even better. Thanks a lot Kripal ji for helping us 're-live' that experience again!
Such amazing sincerity in running the business and providing nothing but the best to its loyal customers. This is what true legends are made of. Kudos!
@Kripal sir thanks for another exclusive episode of this bakery and really impressed with the honesty and knowledge of owner as he is very keen to introduce new products every time...The way you went about tasting with your thoughts on every dish was really memorable
Kripal Ji, you brought back old memories. As a child growing up in Mumbai I remember a Khariwala who used to visit every house in our neighbourhood with his signature aluminium trunk/Chest. There used to be various compartments inside with khari biscuits, rectangular nankaties, round nankaties, jeera butter, etc. Good old days 😊
Nostalgic. I have been having Variar bakery food since I was a baby. It was a staple every evening at 4 pm. Hot veg puffs, sponge cake, rusk. Even my birthday cake was from Variar until Sweet Chariot’s cakes became popular
Hats of kripal . He gives respect to others . NO EGO. RESPECT TO OWNERS. My parents live abroad they watch these videos too they love your food reviews very good keep it up
The Japanese Cake referred is actually a French pastry called Japonaise Cake also called Almond Meringue Torte made of butter cream sandwiched between Almond meringue cakes. It is likely that when it was introduced, it sounded like it was called Japanese Cake and continues to be called that till date.
That khari biscuit drove me down the memory lane. The khari wala with his huge aluminium peti going door to door. The evenings spent dipping khari or toast (rusk) in the tea.
This video made me miss my Bangalore and family and tear up... This bakery and this branch is a part of my childhood and youth.. my dad still goes all the way to this branch to bring me my favourite items everytime I visit India..
One returns to the same restaurant or dhaba or hotel unless dishes of these places are really nice and tasty. Kripal ji visits this bakery again though for new items proves this. Thank you Kripal ji and team. 😊👌🙏
I have spent my entire childhood in and around Rajajinagar. Variar bakery has always been special for everyone living there. I have moved to Germany 10 years ago. I still get some variar bakery items parceled to Frankfurt once in 3 months. Savouring that coconut biscuit here in Germany while watching your video, feels nostalgia.
Probably enjoyed this episode the most uptil now, all thanks to Mr Vijaya Shankar. Such a sport, tasted every single item and was so candid in his critique! ☺️
Such in depth narration on Indian bakery products can only be done by Kripal such kind of indepth conversations we mostly see on European Travel and Food shows when the host visits a boulangerie or patisserie, OG Variar is a combination of both with a huge spread of products.
Hello Kripalji,I spent my childhood at Pune.As you said Khariwala used to come with aluminium chest with Khari, naankatayee. We used to enjoy khari.Childhood memories.Thank you,Kripalji.Nice vlog.

Sir Japanese cake is actually Japonaise cake which is an almond meringue torte through the years the name got corrupted in our country, it has nothing to do with Japan it does not originate from there at all
Thank you for your insightful comment, Sheila. Now, it makes perfect sense.

HI Kripal, fantastic episode as usual. I belong to this part of the town, close to the Original Variar. The sponge cake is world's greatest creation.
Appachan bakery kayari aaradunnu👍👍☺️
@Kripal Sir, please ask them to make it available on swiggy and Zomato.
I don't think they are able to cope with existing demand, you can perhaps try to dunzo, Sunit.
I love butter biscuit inVariar bakery
Coconut biscuit is my favourite here !
We loved it too, we tasted it in our last episode last year. Hope you caught it, Vrushchika.
