  • Is the iPhone the best camera for street photography? - iPhone 14 Pro
The Question if the iPhone is the best camera for Street Photography is a valid one. I have my iPhone 14 pro with me wherever I go and Phones are just getting better every single year. So can the iPhone take just as good photos as a professional camera? In this video I took my iPhone 14 pro out with me to see how it would perform if I would use it just like my professional camera gear.
If you have any question don't hesitate and put them down in the comments.
    Hope you enjoy this one!
    Thanks for tuning in!

Honestly the best camera are your eyes & a talent for seeing. The camera is a tool for capturing the image you have chosen.

Hello from across the creek in New Jersey! Nice shots of Philly on your iPhone! I shoot both with the iPhone 13 Pro as well as the Canon EOD 100D. Although the Canon has the larger sensor and all the other options a smartphone may not have, I find I’m shooting more with the iPhone. Most of my days are in situations that my Canon cannot always be in and the iPhone is the best camera I have with me. Thanks for sharing!

Well I do have multiple cameras like Fuji Xe-1
    Canon 100D Nikon D70S
But there is something so special about using an iPhone for street photography
I do use my IPhone SE2 sometimes to snap some shots on the streets
I think I do enjoy it even though it has one lens and I can not shoot Raw with it but it’s still challenging and fun to use

Interesting video. One important plus in favour of the phone is the fact that on a busy street, many people have their phone in hand, doing their thing. If you photograph people, they are not as aware you’re doing so as opposed to the fact you yield a camera in hand.
The other aspect is the sharing of photos. Watching these on the likes of FB over a phone doesn’t make much difference on over-sharpening.
Lastly, the subject here is STREET photography, not artistic, magazine, etc. photography. Action, story-telling is the main concern.

Hey Steven. :) Thanks for sharing your video and review. One thing though is you should always upload any camera review from a smart phone in 4K not 1080p. Makes a huge difference in showing what it can do. I doubt you shot the photos in 1080p and video in 1080p. Or did you?

I shoot a iPone SE 2020 and a iPhone 12 Mini and never shoot with HDR turned on. I prefer a sightly soft image and not one that is beyond what my eyes see naturally. I never understood the whole sharpness thing but then again I’m just a pictorialist at heart.

Might be worth trying Halide. It will let you shoot traditional RAW rather than ProRAW that the built in app uses. Traditional RAW doesn’t have the sharpening or tone mapping of ProRAW to my understanding of how they differ.

I edited 1,2k DNG iPhone photos. Pics looks perfect but.. I tested S23 Ultra and it's not a good camera phone because slow shutter speed even with assistant camera and pro mode or expert raw. Honestly pro mode is the best from all of them but still there are blurred people. That's the reason I'll stick with iPhone still. I love zoom in Samsung.

I don't think I'm going to take my camera on my next overseas holiday and will only use my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I'm not a pro photographer, lugging the camera and accessories around is a pain (especially if I'm travelling in a hot country), and the camera can be really obtrusive and intrusive. The photos I take will be for me alone (other than showing to family), and pictures from my phone will be more than adequate. Plus, I'll save myself $1000s on future equipment.

I bought iPhone 12 Pro a few years ago to replace my cameras. I haven't felt any desire to take pictures since then. Iphone photos are so sharp and digital, souless. I had next5, 500d, d3100 and I liked the process itself even though I had no knowledge of photography at that time. Sometimes I use a film camera for the effect that I really like. I've been considering buying a new camera for a few weeks now. I really like the fuji xe4, xt30, xt2 or maybe older both for the design and for the film simulation. But won't that be a $1,000 mistake?

    • @StevenSchulzPhoto
      @StevenSchulzPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

If you like to hold a camera in your hand that feels special, and looks special then Fujifilm is definitely a great choice in my opinion. But if you are not sure, don’t do it of course. I agree with you The film simulations are unmatched.

So what I had good experience with, is to match the video quality off the file that you upload with the same video quality it will appear on Instagram for example, which would be 720 P I believe. the bigger resolution to file the more it will get compressed and lose quality. so I have the online source will show your content in 720p try to upload it in the same resolution. I hope that helps.

i started with photograpy when i was 14 years young, at that time 1982 of course analogue, it was always a hobby, but i did a 4 years study in a special photography school also for fun. i have a darkroom and develope BW and Colour film, i started 1996 with micrografx picture puplisher, PS were not that common. i started 2004 with digital cams, so that is my way. i do street, portrait, nude art, have a small studio. i have analogue cams, 35mm, 6x6, 6x7, 645, and two digital cams - all sony, always with me a point and shoot analogue- oympus xa or ricoh ff1 and kinda point and shoot digital - canon ixus 90is or olympus stylus 1s. i love electronics and computers, my first was an atari 800xl 1985, my first phone 1995. But....never ever i use a smartphone for photography. 🙈 it doe´s not feel right for me. Tell a painter he should start painting on a tablet after 40 years on canvas with real colours and paint brushes.🤪 But i think young people can have fun with or it is a step into real art photography with big tools. greets BM

Thank you for sharing all of that. If you are shooting great landscapes or do fashion photography fine not photography whatever it is you probably need a better camera than an iPhone you are 100% correct. But for something to have with you at all times, even though you’re not necessarily planning on having a camera with you it’s a great tool, especially for beginners That don’t have the money to buy a dedicated camera.

After a while, it gets very tiring and tedious lugging a camera everywhere….unless its a genuinely small compact camera the size of Sony RX100 thats genuinely pocketable in every culture’s clothing.
I use my iP14ProMax interchangeably with my XE4 for street shooting.
When i need a wide angle shot, i will use various apps within my phone for that soft, retro analogue film look.
But if the image needs a “camera look”, then i will use my compact Fujinon 35mm f2 + XE4 body.
